What clients say about Crossroads Trading in New York (NY)

This place is a hidden gem in New York City - I was able to find some incredible coats and sweaters for less than half the cost than I would find them at a Banana Republic or any other department store. You may have to do some digging, but try everything on and if you love it go for it because the price is really can’t be beat!

I have never seen humans take clothes out of bags so slowly. Just go to Buffalo Exchange down the street. The clothes they sell and the process to sell are both atrocious. Their employee to customer ratio is like 100:1 and yet everything takes 4 hours.

Genuinely consistently one of the worst crossroads selling experiences in NYC. The store itself is organized, but the quality of goods are low and their pricing is not consistent or logical. Customer service is poor (polite yes, but completely disrespectful of customer time). To preface, I worked in retail many years including as a store keyholder managing several employees, and then graduated from fashion school and now work in apparel production. I have a sufficient background in both trend, quality, and retail service to know that this store is severely lacking. I used to live right next door, and the service and quality has been consistently decreasing year over year for the past four to five years. The employees spent so much time discussing amongst themselves and moving at a slow motion pace in inspecting the clothes. Efficiency is Sub-Zero and there is no standard of performance for the employees. To do this and have an immaculate selection is one thing, but they absolutely do not. Quality pieces are consistently turned away and the floor is full of fast fashion pieces. Even with the utmost nuance applied and understanding that the market may respond better to on-trend pieces of lower price points, often times the employees don't even have a basic understanding of material or brand and apply illogical pricing. I have sold here many times, often because of the proximity. I held off on leaving a review for over a year because as someone who used to be in that same role, I can understand the challenges to an extent. However, in watching them operate today and waiting over thirty minutes while I barely moved up by one person in the line, the utter disregard for their customers' time was shown once again. I recommend selling to buffalo exchange down the street or another chain or location - you can move through a line three times as long in the same time compared to this store and despite perhaps a similar clothing selection for buyers, the seller's experience will be much better.

Ridiculous prices for used items doesn’t matter what condition. Only transplants would overpay for stuff like this.

I came in just to browse and walked out with two pairs of Nike shoes that would’ve been around $200 each in the store — got them both here for $49 a piece. The place is organized, not chaotic like some other thrift spots, and the staff made the buy/sell process smooth. Definitely worth checking out if you’re hunting for deals or designer stuff without paying full retail.

This place is the absolute worst. Feels like a total scam. I went there to sell my items. I’m Asian and they straight up looked at the things I brought and said stuff like, “What a waste of money,” “Gross,” and “What brand is that?” with blatant contempt. My pieces are miles better than the filthy, low quality clothes they had on display. Especially that white guy and the Black/Latina woman, they were whispering to each other behind my back, glancing at me, and then offered me not even a tenth of what my items are worth. They’re so out of touch, I doubt they even recognized the brands I had. I graduated from fashion school in nyc and honestly it’s embarrassing that people like this are even working in the fashion industry. I’m never coming back here. Absolute trash!

This store is genuinely gross- the clothes are low quality and often visibly dirty (scuffed, stained, makeup streaks, etc.). The standard of quality at this crossroads has diminished so much over the past few years. I genuinely don’t know what happened here, it’s consistently full of worn out fast-fashion. Staff is rude and there are often too many of them in the store doing nothing. Please don’t waste your time here.

They honestly won’t really buy anything. Bag full of new clothes with tags on them and still nothing. Sat for an hour and watched everyone’s clothes get checked while I was waiting. They might pick one item from a whole bag. I believe they just pretend to “buy clothes” and advertise to get people to come in and must have a tiny budget of a few dollars for the whole day in reality. They barely take anything esp in comparison to the used items on the racks. They’ll come up with some excuse but again, I sat and watched bags of brand name new items from myself and others - better than what’s in store, get turned away for no reason. It doesn’t make much sense other than they actually really can’t afford to buy but .

I’ve sold clothes at this location multiple times without any issues, but today was a completely different experience. The Asian male employee working didn’t take a single item I brought in — which was surprising, because similar items were accepted in the past. It was frustrating and disappointing, especially since I’ve had good experiences here before. I hope the store can be more consistent and transparent in their buying process moving forward.

This is hands-down my favorite and most consistently impressive secondhand/resale shop in Manhattan. Employees (I worked with Asha today who was very kind!) and security are very friendly. Turnover for stock available to purchase is fast so there is always something new to see and everything is usually of pretty high-quality where you don’t have to worry as much about it being damaged before you get it home. Great brands available and A LOT of things to look at.

Shit show will not return, they scam you, i brought nice clothes with tags they saying “ oh they are not brands they want, or not stylish enough” like the clothes on their rack was any better!!! Don’t go there that store credit thing is BS, came out with $26 mind you they take stuff from me that worth a couple hundred save yourself and just sell your stuff online or literally I’d rather do my yard sell.

Best to download and use their app to get on line when in route so that you can curb how long you wait.

Never tried reselling clothes before and probably won't try it again. Had a few items to sell, mostly brand new, some with tags on them. There was a 30 minute wait to see a buyer, which was fine. But after waiting 30 minutes, they only selected 2 items - fine again, some of the items are out of season at the moment. Of the 2 items chosen (both brand new), one had a tag still on it - it cost $200. They offered me $6.90. I almost laughed in their face. I declined to sell it. At that price, I'd rather just give it away, rather than get scammed, to let them turn a huge profit.

Brought a huge bag of clothes to sell. Mostly brand name items, trendy, good quality. Would have no problem selling them myself on ebay, but figured i’d make it easier for myself to sell consignment. Cashier took 4 items- laughable. Items on the racks were not anything interesting, it’s obvious they need to evaluate their model. I will not be returning to this store, don’t waste your time here.

Please be very cautious when buying, selling or returning items here. Their entire payment/store credit process is a total scam. They “claim” they apply surcharges on tagged items to better compensate their employees. This is a sack of bullcrap and it’s just a way to illegally tax shoppers at a 3% rate on specifically categorized items that are not to be taxed under $110 USD per New York state law. I wonder if these employees really do get compensated. Besides, all that so called “transparency” pertaining to how your employees are paid is highly unnecessary. The buyer doesn’t need to know all of that. You are selling an item for a set price - end of story. If the sale turn-around time is too long for a tagged item and you decide to slash the price to boost your sales, the same aforementioned stance should apply. I recently purchased a couple of items from this location. All were in good condition but i decided to return 2 specific items because they didn’t fit as expected. With their 7-Day return policy for store credit provided the items met their refund policy, i didn’t think there would be an issue. I was actually making an exchange and spending more. At the register i was told by the associate, that “half-off” items were final sale. Meaning one of my items would not qualify for a return. Well i didn’t know that? There are no signs in store, at the register or on any of my receipts that supported that claim. The associate “made an exception”, but i sensed something fishy as it took them a while to fully process the transaction. I paid 48.93 (3% surcharge included) for one item and 8.37 (3% surcharge included) for the half-off item. If my math is correct the total amount to have been credited was $57.30, however i was credited $50.70 and they clearly took the remainder as the associate blacked out the “account balance” portion. So if i’m understanding my receipts correctly, you sold me an item and when i decided to return it, you guys decided to accept the item but then credit yourselves for the intake or so called trade? Totally unbelievable, unacceptable and definitely violates the business code of ethics. My recommendation to this company is this; if you are going to claim transparency, be fully transparent across the board and not pick and choose.

Initially I was hesitant because of some of the reviews. However, today I came in to sell. I had a great experience, they purchased all but one of my items and their rate is more competitive than BE which is where I normally sell. Everyone was friendly and professional….i do recommend this location.

Employees here are the worst. They make faces at you, purposely ignore buying from you, etc just because they don’t like you. I was blamed for coming in late when their app literally said to go to the store directly. Instead of owning up to their tech problems, they try to turn it around on you. Power hungry employees

Do not recommend ! some of the Stuff is very very slow! they seem not knowing lots of good brands. waited 4 hours .after that they did not buy 80% of what i had. and i had new shoes brands : Diemme shierling boots, larroude boots, autry sneakers, vic matie loafers and slightly used chloe boots, paloma wool clogs , suede boots from italy and some real leather goods . None of them were accepted.Only small amounts of some other things i brought! So i have feeling either they were not aware of what brands were these or they felt lazy cause it was a lot. Reason was "some of them have wear signs and some of these shoes are not what sells here" Like how can these brands can not be stylish? when it is tred! and how "slightly used "is not ok? when they sell very used shoes and clothes ( not all but there are many liek that) like madewell and zara clothes and washed nike sneakers which was used and abused! Please Sell on depop! even for 20$ . it will be way more beneficial than waste your time here. ( well obviously people do bring ridiculos stuff sometimes ,)but comon! you should know some Cool brands like vic matie and larroude and autry and. so on.and check your inventory when using words slightly used . Bye

The employees of this store are very unprofessional. You wait in line for 2 hours, and when it’s your turn, the employees just gossip among themselves right in front of you while checking your clothes. The management should teach them some manners and basic rules of communication. Such disrespect is rarely seen in any other store. Instead of being polite, they turn their backs on you and demonstrate their superiority over you. A very huge disappointment.

I usually go to the union square location, and it seemed (to me at least) this one offered a better selection. Overall, I’m a big fan of Crossroads. It’s always hit or miss, but I’ve found some great finds here.

overpriced in comparison to 2nd street, but better selection than buffalo exchange. i appreciate that they try to sort by item type and size, but i still feel like i have to sort through everything because inevitably things get put back incorrectly i never understood the purpose of the more expensive items hanging way up high near the ceiling - i would never ask someone to get something down from there and half of the time i forget to look up there. maybe just put them on the designer rack? definitely lacking in the bag and accessories department

Their process of determination is ridiculous...I brought in brand new glitter camo Steven madden shoes...they didn't take them...but they have racks and rows of garbage!!!!!overpriced clothes !!!! Unique is a way better thrift store. Go there because crossroads is a waste of time...and a coach leather pod case and a Vince camuto belt bag they declined..so like I said garbage in the store

I think I need to go more often. It's a clothing thrift shop and can be hit or miss, especially if you are in search of something specific. It's better to go when you are open to finding an unexpected treasure. I have shopped there before and found great items that I love at this location and others. On my last visit, I was not successful, or I was successful in finding something I liked but didn't suit what I needed.

Staff: I came mid-day on a Friday and interacted with at least 3 staff members; at the door, at checkout, at fitting room. Everyone was kind and I would recommend everyone to visit. Selling experience: I brought ~35 items and they bought 4 pieces. They welcome you to either sit or walk around the store while they go through your pieces. I roamed and found a dress I loved so I purchased it with my credit.

Love the store but it’s really frustrating that when you return an item, they refund the item value to a gift card but won’t refund the 3% surcharge on the item that you paid for. This has happened every time I return something and even when I mention that I should be getting the item value + 3% surcharge back, I still only get the item value. More often than not it’s a small value I’m losing, but really annoying nonetheless.

I recently tried out the Sell by Mail service offered by Crossroads Trading. While I appreciate the effort they put into evaluating my items, I was genuinely surprised and disappointed that none of my items were selected for purchase. Notably, many of these were in pristine condition, with some even brand new and still tagged. The clarity in their selection criteria left me puzzled. A more detailed explanation or feedback system would be immensely helpful for users to understand their standards and make better decisions for future submissions. Additionally, I learned post-evaluation that unselected items are donated. While this might be a noble initiative, I believe customers should retain the choice, especially if they have a preferred charity or would like to manage donations personally. Although I've conveyed my preference to have my items returned and am willing to cover any associated costs, this experience made me question the transparency of the service. In all honesty, I'm left feeling dissatisfied with this experience. As feedback is the cornerstone of improvement, I hope Crossroads Trading considers this review as an opportunity for reflection and enhancement. It's unlikely I'll be using or recommending their Sell by Mail service again in its current state. SUCKS!

I never write reviews but my experience here was so crazy that I had to. I cant urge people enough not to go here. My boyfriend went in for me with almost brand new, expensive, on trend pieces. The sales associate offered him $35 for 5 of my pieces… I was genuinely in shock. My boyfriend kindly said no and asked for the pieces back. I told my boyfriend before he left to check (I had read another review about them trying to steal) and I’m glad he did because they tried it on him. He noticed one of my blazers was missing and when he went in to ask for it, the associate played dumb and said rudely “oh I thought you were selling it”. The sales associate literally took, tagged and hid one of my pieces. Keep in mind, he never paid my boyfriend for it and even told him to have a nice day when he left initially. Absolute thieves - don’t waste your time.

This is the greatest consignment shop I've visited in my many years living in the city. I've been shopping and consigning here since 2010. Their customer service is unmatched; all staff is very attentive and responsive. The security guard is super warm and friendly; he always greets me with a genuine smile and is so respectful. He keeps a watchful eye on the store and I've always felt very safe with him there. The managers, buyers and general staff members are incredibly helpful. They take the time to answer all my questions. All my experiences here over the last 13 years have been so pleasant. I highly recommend this store if you are looking to consign or if you're looking for reasonably priced, trendy and very fashionable clothing!

I’ve been coming to Crossroads for years now, they always have a stylish and friendly team, and work with you to price your items. Today I stopped by to get rid of some winter clothes and was I intrigued by window display the visual merchandiser did. It was tiny pieces of Jean material cut and tied together to create a curtain effect. I’m doing some home remodeling and will definitely be trying this concept out!
