What clients say about Big Reuse in Brooklyn (NY)

They take and sell useful stuff that other charities dont. Such as office furniture, sinks, some appliances ,even construction materials etc. As well as the usual clothes, books, kitchen ware and conventional furniture.

Nice place but over time I’m seeing the same pattern as goodwill, workers seem to take everything that would otherwise be a good deal, now you only see items that no one really wants and very incorrectly priced, recently I’ve been there a half dozen times and came out empty handed. Not good

I love what Big Reuse stands for and enjoyed the selection. Delivery is a bit complicated but just wanted to give everyone a heads up that you can find neighors with trucks on Laborhutt

Stopped buying most things firsthand because of this place. Thankful to the people who donate here and that they are keeping prices reasonable:-)

Big Reuse directed me to arrange for a furniture pick up through "Resupply" that wanted to charge me $470.

I wish there was a rating for no stars because this place surely that type of rating . This place needs to be reported to the BBB ( better Business Bureau)) for unfair, pricing and unfair business practices. I’ve had the worst experiences going to the thrift store. Spoken to like a beggar after asking questions. My worst experience in the store was when I saw an item and asked for the young lady to pass it so I could purchase it. She told me that I have to wait as though I have to wait until she pleases herself, however for the fun of it, I waited and let her know that I was waiting till the item eventually she took the item not knowing that I was seeing her changed the price from $9.99 two49.99 not knowing that I saw what she did. I waited for like 10 more minutes. She brought the item over I said I saw you changed the price, why did you do that she said that it had the wrong price on it. I said to her when you looked at the price when I spoke to you about it and it was OK well, just to be spiteful. You went ahead and changed the price. She looked at me rolled her eyes, laughed in my face, mocked me along with her other coworkers.. I just don’t think that I place that operates from donations. should be able to be as manipulative as these girls were and I am gonna be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau.

A male employee dropped a sharp edged glass picture frame on my calf and didn't even apologize. My husband asked what happened to which I replied "he dropped a picture frame on my leg and I'm bleeding". The employee mockingly shouted "medic" and then returned with a bandaid. He then had the audacity to find me a 3rd time in the store to tell me "by the way, I don't go by he". And I don't like things being dropped on me, sir. Last time we'll be visiting as they definitely don't deserve our money or time.

Insanely good book collection for the prices and nice selection of clothes and furniture as well. One of my favourites in Brooklyn.

They were selling broken microwaves for $50+ and broken dirty furniture for $70-$250. Barely any women's clothes over a size medium and not organized well.

When we moved to a smaller apartment, I started looking for places to donate a lot of goods. The Big Reuse was so much fun to walk around! My middle schooler had tagged along to a bunch of shops, wanting to see weird things, and that never happened until we hit Big Reuse. So many ideas for what could become props and set pieces. I look forward to visiting again

The original BigReuse that was across the street was truly magical. The unique finds and INCREDIBLY low prices stopped in 2019. Since then, prices have shot up at least 3X and there reallly isn’t much of anything that’s unique. It’s just a bigger Salvation Army. Back in 2018, I got the most incredible things all for under $60. Massive Mid-Century modern glass lamp, exotic wood slabs, handcrafted African dresser etc. now, a small porcelain plate is $30+.

If you're into vinyls or any kind of music, even old books you can't find anywhere, this place have excellent selections for personal collections. Me and my partner love to go here every so often to check what's new. Definitely donate here!

Cheap used furniture in good condition! Check out their bargain section near the back for the best deals. The staff is super sweet too

Such a great place! I don’t usually enjoy thrift stores because they’re too overwhelming but I didn’t have that problem here. They also had a great selection of clothes and books. Will definitely be back

I come here a few times a week to donate and to pick up some gently used items for myself and for family. I also find some food & water bowls for my stay cats that I look after. My only gripe is some of the visitors that make a mess for the staff to clean up. Don't give the staff extra work. Especially when some are volunteering.

I absolutely love Big Reuse! The staff are so kind and went above and beyond to help me get the cast iron sink I fell in love with out to the car. Stores like this are such a gift—thank you, thank you!

Over the years I have bought items from the former Queens location to the present Brooklyn location. Items I have bought would have cost me a fortune elsewhere but Big Reuse is the most reasonable with the best quality of any thrift/antique store.
As you can see in my pics, the REAL burled wood dresser with marquetry inlay-in perfect condition; the two historic Federal-styled yellow pine bookcases that I just bought-stunning!
To top it off a great and helpful staff and the best store manager-Fred!-hands down my go-to for antiquing. You’ll never walk out without buying something-never!Jul 08, 2025 -
Working with the team at Big Reuse was a fantastic experience. Their commitment to sustainability and community engagement really came through in every step of the zero waste mural project.
We partnered on a mural at their site, and the process was collaborative, smooth, and full of positive energy. We're proud to have contributed to a space that reflects Big Reuse’s mission, and we’d love to work together again in the future!Jun 18, 2025 -
So excited to find a fun thrift store in this area. They have a really big used book selection, and very helpful staff.

I thought they would have more second hand furniture to choose from.
I’ll say they do have a variety of books. It’s like a mini library there. They have clothing and shoes as well, fine Chinese porcelain. I bought Chinese porcelain, cashiers didn’t package it with paper or at least ask if I needed packaging and a bag. Music too loud. Store needs to be more organized. There is parking which is a plus.Mar 29, 2025 -
this place may seem huge and intimidating, but take a minute to take it all in! maybe you don’t know what you want and that’s OK – that’s exactly why you should look around. lots of clothes, tons of books, lots and lots of chairs and miscellaneous furniture (filing cabinets anyone?) I picked up $2.49 frames for pictures, and then I couldn’t resist picking up two books, that I really need to read: The Power Broker and my Brilliant Friend. cashier couldn’t have been funnier, she had me in stitches. Bring a portable fan as I did, and it’s worth the summer adventure and the trek. (by the way: it’s literally right next to Lowe’s, by the parking lot on the East side entrance (not the entrance closest to the subway.)

Lots of great deals here. Sure you have to not be looking for a specific brand or color but you’re helping to reduce waste!
This was my first time at the store so I took a walk around the whole store. There’s lot of cool stuff. A lot of it has never been used. I picked up 4 plates for $1.50 each. They looked like they have never been used and still had their original manufacture’s price tag ($4.99) on it.
I will definitely be going back to Big Reuse again.Jul 29, 2024 -
Big random mix of salvaged things like doors, appliances, sinks, etc. Great resource for DIY or budget rehab, while keeping items out of landfills. And incredibly large section of books and records, easy to walk away with stacks. Clothing is a bit more hit or miss though.

As a donor (working for a furniture company, we once donated a ton of stuff to BIG). As a retail customer, I do have fun going there, if I had space and tools I would go more often. For now, just getting small ready to go stuff, some stationery, books and toys. As someone who used to work with salvaging furniture professionally, I can tell the prices on some pieces are way high. Go check curbside in Brooklyn Heights on a garbage night and you are in for a treat. For example a washer or a stove for 350... with no warranty or any proof it will work fine, I would not risk. It is what it is, a salvage store at hipster Park slope price. Hit or miss. But fun to browse. You have to be a true diyer with skills to use most of what they sell. Assortment includes old doors and window frames, architectural elements, paints, furniture, boards, cut offs of slabs, hardware, washers, stoves, other kitchen and home gadgets, sinks, toilets, some assembled fixtures, toys, equipment, tableware, books, cds, some clothes and shoes.... a lot of it is in sad condition but most with great potential. Furniture needs fixing, most drawers get stuck etc. you have to dig on shelves and in boxes, many areas are impossible to organize I would imagine.
It is *dusty* in there... my allergies got bad after just 5 minutes inside so its a fair warning to those with similar problems. I had a pretty bad episode which only happens to me once in a few years. And it gets very hot, note to self: not to go when it's like 100 degrees and humid outside :). I will probably be back during fall and pumped on benadryl)) if my memory is correct, they used to be on the other side of Lowes parking lot. The entrance is now off 12th street. I parked at Lowes, not sure if its allowed but there was no designated parking as long as I could tell. So go with an open mind and ready to dig and get your hands dirtyApr 18, 2023 -
Big Reuse as a diverse selection of almost anything. Clothing, books, appliances, natural edge wood, paint, mirrors, toilets. It’s truly a treat to shop here! Check out some of the unique higher end items online!

Gigantic warehouse stuffed full of all sorts of fabulous finds, mostly leftovers from film/TV sets. Two truckloads of cool furniture from a hit TV show had just landed when I was there last. First run at the really good stuff won't be cheap, but prices get moderate if things don't sell. And they're happy to give a deal for bulk buys. You never know what you'll find there, but you will always find SOMEthing cool. Is this couch not AWESOME?!

This place is another great resource for people on a budget (or just smart and crafty) who are looking to furnish, or even rehab their home.
I've been using big reuse for years to help furnish my homes, find new projects to rehab and I always come away from here with something interesting, even if it's just a book.
I do miss their other locations in Brooklyn and queens as I feel they had a lot more home renovation materials, but now seem more focused on home furnishing.
Great prices, great staff, always a way to kill time, or check out something different before heading to ikea.Jul 26, 2019 -
The best kept secret for anyone who's interested in interior decorating on a budget. Over the years I've bought so many things from them... a 9ft section of bowling alley for a table, a vintage enamel kitchen sink, a giant mirror & frame, an 8ft long chest, church pews I made into shelves... All for a fraction of the cost. Keep recycling

Used furniture, books, plates, lamps, paint (various) & paint samples, records, thread, chairs, etc. Etc. A thrifter's heaven. I think you can possibly renovate your house or apartment from items in this place. Today I bought 5 industrial size spools of thread, some fabric,2 small coffee burlap sacks, it came to all of $16!!! I liked some of the furniture pieces but no car or van at the moment. Oh well. Big Reuse is a short walk from the Smith- 9th Street (F/G train) station. I will definitely go back, with a car nxt time.
