I would not recommend Roberts Transmission Service for the lack of communication, professionalism and experience. Still don't believe I was charged for a job they didn't even finish. I even tipped thinking I could trust them. To then be charged at another shop to fix their mistakes. I was robbed not only financial, but also in time. As to I do not live in NJ and had to get a room for the additional week and a half. The owner knew this yet acted with no urgency. If they took accountability for the error, I would have moved along. People make mistake. The lack of respect is not accepted.
Sadly, I thought I would be attended properly since I knew of the owner. No priority treatment. Just good service. Was no where close to the case. I was hesitant in leaving a review, but after being $1,500 in the hole for this with no follow up, apology or communication here I am.
Here was my experience: From the beginning there was a lack of communication. I went in to have my transfer case replaced. My 4x4 wasn't functional and there was a loud knocking sound occuring. I brought the part from the a junkyard as recommended. He wanted to replace a couple other things for maintenance. Glad I didn't. I dropped off the vehicle early morning as they open at 10am to be done same day. Since it can be a 3-4 hour job. I didn't receive an update about my vehicle until I messaged the owner. Then received a call stating it won't be done until next day. Horrible start
I get the call next day early morning that my vehicle is ready and good to go. I picked up my vehicle after work. Paid what was asked and added a $140 tip thinking I was supporting the shop. Which was a horrible decision. As I'm driving, I immediately test the 4x4 and with my surprise not functional at all. Also, they removed and reinstalled my exhaust (which had nothing to do with the transfer case) that now my pick up truck sounds like its ready to race. Call the owner immediately and he says bring the vehicle back on Monday. Shows no one tested the vehicle to confirm it's functionality. There was also as a snow storm was coming that weekend. So my vehicle wasn't back in shop until Thursday. The horror begins...
I return the vehicle that Thursday. As I walk in to hand the keys, they owner literally states "Take one of my mechanics with you to this shop so they can reprogram it. It will only take a couple minutes". Believing it true, I drive to the other shop. They try to reprogram and it fails a couple times. Call the owner and he says take it to another shop.. 😒 I just handed the keys to the mechanic that rode with me because I had to get back to work. Yet again, I get no call with updates. I text the owner and an hour later after closing I get a call with the runaround that it'll be ready next day. 😒The horror does not end...
I get the call next morning that the vehicle needs another part and it would be another $500 because of part and labor of the NEW SHOP!!! The original job was never completed. Note: we went to two other shops because they did not finish the job. More like they could not do it and never should have accepted it. Literally ROBBED me for charging me for a work they claimed was done which never was.
The last shop my vehicle was sent to handled everything extremely professional. Night and day difference. I would not recommend Roberts Transmission Service for the lack of communication, professionalism and experience. Still don't believe I was charged for a job they didn't even finish.

I took my car there with what I thought was the trans not shifting he diagnosed
it and found the trans was good and I needed the two catalytic converters where clogged he replaced them he could of charged me for a trans job but very honest good work good price very knowledgeable I recommend him

I have to say me posting this review is late, but Robert's service delivery in service isn't. I brought in my car for transmission issues. He check out everything out and came back to me with a solution. The entire time he made me feel comfortable and that he can trust worth. He estimated that my car would take over week to be done, but he actually got my car back to be sooner then the eta. I will definitely recommend his shop.
Bad place to get a transmission work does not talk with the true leaves everything loss my transmission come out the problem with my truck wasn’t even the transmission it was my 4x4 he still went and change it and he over price me I payed $5,500 just so it can still be bad I recommend to not go there with your car to get any type of work hope they go out of business
Your transmission going sucks. But having a guy you can trust to fix it properly is hard. Not at Roberts Transmission in Perth Amboy. He picked it up immediately and had it back to me as promised. He kept me well informed about all work being done and is a true gentleman. A man of pride you can tell because his shop is spotless and his work speaks for itself. Highly recommend!
Best transmission shop in town and my go to mechanic from now on. Even tho my car gave them a lot of trouble to fix, they stuck to their word and fixed it without charging extra when any other mechanic shop would’ve taken advantage and charge me out of pocket. Happy with the results, car is running like new.

*REAL REVIEW * 0 STARS *On July 28, 2023 I had suspension repair done at Roberts Transmission Service. On August 24, 2023 while I was driving, the control arm bushing came off causing damage to the right front axle, strut, sway bar link, and control arm. I had my car repaired at the nearest shop. I will update this review pending resolution. I can only hope their customer service is better than their "repairs" performed on my vehicle.
Robert was a gentleman and the rebuild of my transmission went well. The shop had my truck back on the road in a reasonable timeframe. Good experience!
I had a Transmission problem & called Robert and was told to come in the next day, I am So Happy that I did just that! My Transmission was Gone! Robert told me step by step what they would do and how much it would cost! I had additional issues which I had known about & he repaired those as well! Didn’t charge me any Extra! Was more concerned about my Safety! If you need Any Automotive Repairs PLEASE go see him! You will Not be Sorry! The prices are reasonable and he goes far beyond what he should to make Sure your vehicle is repaired for the Fairest Price & more important, that You are safe! Robert did a really excellent job with my transmission. He was very professional and kept excellent communication. If I have any further trouble with my car I would absolutely bring it to Robert again!
I have a Ford expedition 2007 , and Iwent to Robert transmission to get it fix , he is a nice person he help me fixing my car, I’m really happy with his work , I’m glad to have him when I need him to do work in my car.

Robert is a very talented mechanic who explained everything clearly. He also took some pictures of the new parts that he bought for the repair and sent them to me by cell phone. I had a fantastic experience here. Robert was recommended by my regular mechanic. He diagnosed what I already believed to be the problem. He fixed it quickly and efficiently and also let me know what else was wrong with my car. He also quickly did some additional work because I was worried. Great experience and a fair price! Brought my car here without exact knowledge of what was wrong with my car. Sometimes living in the area and not being a native spanish speaker can be intimidating. When I arrived Roberts uncle was fixing a car, and although he couldn't speak to me directly(spanish)he made me feel comfortable until someone could. Even after waiting for a part to come in to ix the problem everything was done quickly and explained throughout the process. I will be coming back here if me or my family has any future issues!
Very patient. After I left he drove 20 minutes to where I was because I had another issue afterwards and fixed it out of the shop. Super fast work between him and his uncle. Both very polite and funny. Smart cool people I definitely suggest them.

I used Robert's transmission almost a year ago to replace my transmission, he also found oil leak and muffler problem. He is such a great guy, but especially a great mechanic and businessman. The price he gave me back then was fabulous,, he fixed my muffler so that it would last a little longer at that time.I . just took my car back last week to do a service on my trans, oil change and replace my muffler, he did brake job etc. Also, again the cost was reasonable, and he only keeps the car for 1 to 2 days only. I highly recommend him to do all of your vehicle needs. I am going back within the next few months to have him replace my tires. I trust him completely
