I cannot say enough good things about German Squad Auto Repair in Perth Amboy and Dario, the owner.
I purchased a 2015 Volkswagen Passat SEL V6 in January 2026, and since the day I bought it, the car has been nothing but a headache. I spent months trying to diagnose and fix various issues on my own, but I could never get to the root of the problem. Most recently, after an oil change, the car started acting extremely erratically, and I honestly felt like something catastrophic was about to happen to the engine.
My mother, brother, and uncle have all trusted Dario with their Volkswagens over the years, so I decided to bring the car to German Squad. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in good hands. Dario immediately recognized my family members and treated me like a longtime customer. Before even looking at the car, he took the time to listen to my concerns, reassure me, and explain that he would get to the bottom of the issue. What really stood out was that he wasn't trying to sell me repairs—he genuinely wanted to make sure the car was worth fixing before I spent any money.
Dario's knowledge of Volkswagen vehicles is incredible. He explained the strengths of the VR6 engine and gave me confidence that if the problem could be corrected, the car could still have a long life ahead of it.
After a thorough diagnosis, he determined that the timing chain had failed. He carefully disassembled the engine, inspected everything, cleaned components as needed, and put everything back together correctly. The attention to detail was obvious. He even took care of additional "while you're in there" items at no extra charge because he genuinely wanted the job done right.
The turnaround time was impressive, and when I got the car back, I honestly couldn't believe the difference. The engine runs smoothly, the timing is perfect, and the car drives like it just rolled off the showroom floor. It's the best it has driven since I've owned it.
Beyond the quality of the work, Dario made me feel welcomed, respected, and appreciated as a customer. Finding an honest, knowledgeable mechanic is rare these days, and German Squad Auto Repair has earned my trust completely. I will absolutely be returning for any future service, and I honestly don't want anyone else touching my car.

Dario and his team were amazing as humans beings as well as mechanics, it was my first time here and definitely not my last ; they were honest and very detailed about the issue on my vehicle and also the repair procedure and recommendations . I hope and pray I don't have to visit a mechanic anytime soon but if I do they will always be my #1 choice I love and appreciate honesty and dedication to help others and I thank gos I was able to find it here .
I brought in my Audi for an inspection due to a subtle noise. The team was able to diagnose the issue, and I appreciated that.
However, I was very disappointed by what I saw on my dashcam. During the test drive, a staff member aggressively launched the car from a stop, my car has manual trans. Then, later, he took my car out again and picked up and dropped off a woman using my vehicle. Seriously?
This kind of behavior is completely unprofessional and not what I’d expect from a reputable shop.
The other staff were friendly — but I really hope management takes this seriously. Moving forward, I may just stick to working on the car myself at a DIY garage.
Perfect service! They checked my car, they fixed the problem so fast and warned me to do not spend more money on some parts that I was thinking. Highly recommended!
10/10 - Outstanding experience, took great care of my 04 jetta and got me out of a JAM
I dont live close but I was in the area for something else. I initially damaged one of my mounts going over a pothole. I'm talking completely shattered to the point where it was dangerous to operate the vehicle. I was instructed to drive to German Squad Auto asap. I get there, I get straight to it, show them pics and a video.
Boom, right to it - they call to see who has the part, move cars around to get me on a lift. They were already busy. Not even 1 hour later, all done, new part installed. They even checked any potentially affected areas just to make sure I was good.
Dario, Rory and the rest of their staff—was an absolute pleasure. Very down to earth good folks, very professional and know their VWs
German squad guys always give you the straight scoop. They’ve done a lot of work on my car and every time it’s been the perfect fix. Reasonable rates and very prompt returning it to me. I don’t know why I hadn’t reviewed this shop previously because it’s the only place I would trust to fix my Audi A4 and even my Jaguar F Pace. Dario and his team know cars inside and out and when I saw that A5 convertible sitting on his lot I just had to buy it. I got a great deal on the car and I know that excellent future service is guaranteed. I highly recommend that you take your car to The German Squad. You’ll be treated fairly, respectably and you will trust that the work is done properly.
Had to replace clutch on my 2012 VW GLI. Quick, easy to talk to. Great work. The car and clutch are awesome. If you have a German car bring it here before you even consider the dealer. They do it all. I found my VE place. Oh easy on and off the highway. Great location.

These guys are the go to in the area they can do anything and they do it right. in addition Dario and Luis delivered a level of customer care and knowledge that blew me out the water. I am beyond happy and will be back. (Mind you i work in a mechanic shop and they did what my guys could'nt) serious guys and about they business.
They corrected shotty work done by a different mechanic on my BMW 328i. Not only did they fix the problems quickly, they identified every issue, gave me a great rate on repair and gave me my vehicle in top condition upon an expeditious repair. They not only earned my business but my highest recommendation for European vehicle repair!
Had my oil change here on my bmw and they did a super quick job on it. Car runs great. Inquired about some work I had done on the car with a different mechanic and they educated me well on the topic, enough so that I wish I had taken my car here in the first place. Will be using them indefinitely. If you’re in the hopelawn / fords/ Perth area, check these guys out first before going to another shop. Google reviews on other shops don’t seem to tell the truth.
If I could give more stars I would. These guys really take of you. With prices you can't beat and mechanics that are extremely knowledgeable I will never deal with another auto shop and I've had a lot of bad experiences elsewhere. They are also very prompt with there work and can diagnose an issue right away. I would highly recommend German Squad Auto Repair to anyone looking to buy a car or if work/repair is needed. A+++++
We brought so many cars here I love it never had a problem.....and when it comes to fixing your cars ....there guys are on point with fixing it ..very far on price .they would educated you on your car if u need any info on it ........ one of the best dealership I ever been to ..and they work on high end cars to register cars .......
