THIS IS NOT A SALVAGE DATA LOCATION. This is another company (Digital Doc) that forwards it to Salvage Data and then marks up the price. I paid Salvage $2900 once my drive finally got there and didn’t get a single file. My drive came back in pieces and with all original parts (I marked the PCB with sharpie) so they either never replaced the actuator arm and PCB as they said or they took off the parts I paid for and put originals back on, which seems more likely…. Either way I should get back what I paid for. These guys are complete scam artists cause I took this to another Data recovery firm and they recovered 100% of my data for $900. Less than 1/3 of what I paid Salvage (and digital doc) to give me zero files. Stay far far away from this company. To make matters worse I found out after my experience that a friend of mine who is a business owner had a server fail and he was quoted $50K by Salvage before taking it somewhere else who did the job for $3K. Yes you read that right, they tried charging $50,000 for a job someone else did for $3,000!!!!!
The internet is loaded with stories like mine. Just look at Reddit’s Data Recovery forum and they have thousands of horror stories by Salvage.

A few months ago, I installed a new operating system on my sister’s laptop. While trying to expand drive C from 20GB to 50GB using Acronis, something went wrong, and all the data on drive D was lost. I’m glad they recovered my data. It was not cheap. I was sent a lot of documents and things to sign and read but it was still unclear that they keep my device after the data is recovered. I even talked to multiple people on the phone about my case and details, but never that they were to keep my device. Apparently I didn’t click the checkbox to return my device.
With this detail aside, I wasn’t happy with the communication after the payment was sent. I received an email to review the salvaged data and confirmed, but after that I waited a month and ended up calling this past week asking where my laptop is. They said it was shipped to a nearby CVS to pick up, which is fine, but I get there and it’s NOT my laptop, it’s a storage device of my data! So I call the company and ask where my laptop was, he had to search and found that it was not yet recycled.. so they are going to send it back to me. It only took 2k, 4 clarifying phone calls, an extra unnecessary heart attack, and a wasted trip to CVS. I’ll keep you posted though if the laptop ever actually shows up lol.
