What clients say about ShopRite of Hackensack in Hackensack (NJ)

The only reason I go there is for the convenience of location, The prices are higher than any other grocery. The shelves are not stocked properly, A lot of items out. No consistency on products. Staff needs training severly.

ShopRite always comes through. Couldn’t find salt for snow or a shovel anywhere except at ShopRite! Awesome !

New manager (white woman blonde hair in her 60s) is kinda arrogant and really shouldn't be smoking outside the store. It is afterall company property. Allegedly. ?

Please get the first self check out register on the right side serviced. Everytime I go and i end up using that register and its not accepting coin change. Its frustrating. I had to cancel my payment and use another register. Its been like that for a couple weeks now. I mentioned it to the staff attendant tonight. He was already aware of it the last time I was there.

Always love going to this place to buy groceries. Went there as a kid with my parents and now on my own. Love it here?

I have been going here for five years and have no clue what people are yapping about. The self check out carts if you use them are like using clear at the airport. Great selection and even better staff. Savvy pre-mades. They do their best to get hands on out of season stuff. For any produce you max time on it by prepping within a few days. The store is clean and your fellow shoppers mostly are pleasant to be around. They get better every year.

ShopRite of Hackensack is one of those stores that consistently gets the basics right. The produce section is well‑stocked with fresh options, the bakery always has something warm coming out, and the deli moves quickly even during busy hours. It’s the kind of place where you can do a full weekly shop without feeling overwhelmed. The aisles are clean and easy to navigate, and the variety is impressive — from everyday essentials to specialty items you don’t always find in larger chains. The staff is friendly and helpful, especially when you need to track something down or get a quick recommendation.

This place is just HORRIBLE. Their damn employees were looking at me as if i'm a thief while at self checkout, mind you i was at the register right infront by the employee. He can literally scan from where he's standing. The security guard stood over me the entire time as well, this is just so shameful and disgusting. The stock levels are horrible too and they have frequent mismatched pricing at checkout!! But this being treated like i'm robbing them was it for me. Never again. Save your money and dignity, go elsewhere, they are a bunch of losers running this store, DISGUSTING!

This ShopRite in Hackensack definitely needs clean up reorganizing and proper employees training specially in the Meat Section. The butcher makes excuses to o help unlike New Milford branch. Also i let the staff know that you need products not in the shelves the very first or second day of the week, I was told to wait till he completes whatever he was doing as he said he has a lot of digging of boxes to go through. I had to wait till he finished then he brought the items out, he didn’t even have the courtesy to let me know that it’s available as I was still standing there for him to finish, also as I didn’t want to drive to another ShopRite as I had other appointments to catch up with. Seriously employees needed desperate training.

Ok SR. Time to use our brains. You make a cart available where we scan our own stuff- we STILL have to wait on long lines and STILL have to wait for associate and STILL have to bag. No thanks I already have a job- I’ll shop where being a customer means something .

Poor quality produce and customer satisfaction is very bad and workers etiquette bad

Today I had a very unpleasant experience at the ShopRite bakery section. My family and I simply wanted to buy two donuts, and the woman working there rudely shouted at us: “What are you doing? You can’t take them like that. You need to use a napkin!” She practically scolded us in front of everyone, even though we only touched the donuts we were taking. What makes this worse is that we waited in line behind about eight other people, and she didn’t say a single word to any of them. The napkins were also placed so far away and out of sight that it felt more like an obstacle than customer convenience. I have been a loyal customer for three years, but this was unacceptable. No customer deserves to be treated this way. Because of this incident, you just lost a long-term customer. ShopRite should train staff to respect customers instead of embarrassing them.

It’s convenient close to home it’s clean staff is very nice especially the lady who is always at the front end of the registers is super nice. My only complain would be to have a better selection of fresh herbs and other greens like broccoli rabe etc.

As it may be convenient in the area but the Online shopping needs training. Instead of correctly looking for the items I had requested they took the easy route and told me they were out of stock. Tell me why did I enter the store and not only did I find the products they claimed were out of stock they were full on the shelves! I won’t even get into how they gave me someone else’s order! And don’t complain because they will never respond NEVER EVER AGAIN!!

This is just your average shop rite however I am giving them 4 stars because Rosa in customer service went out of her way on labor day weekend to help me with a return after the store had closed. She told me her husband was waiting for her and that the store was closed but she went out of the way to help me anyway. I appreciate that level of service. On the flipside was the 2 people working the self check out that night who were inpatient and quick to point that I misread the circular and need to do a better job reading. They both could learn something from Rosa in customer service.

South Hackensack has definitely cleaned up well with a nice Layout and friendly Staff. I haven't been in years, but as of 5/2025 the Store deserves recognition to those who shop here, & the employees running the show. Thank you, Shoprite! South Hackensack

So I went to bring back butcher brothers hamburgers cause I was about to make them and they smelled like rotten eggs and then I swapped them out and bought another pack got home and I was shocked they smelled bad again. Had my mother return them But what’s was really frustrating is that I am bagging my stuff and these kids are just standing around getting paid and my dad is elderly and he is trying to help me bag while they stand there. They get paid but I bag my own stuff??? What has happened to ShopRite? You’re teaching your workers that this is okay. I don’t care if it’s self check out help ppl bag their stuff especially the elderly. I could never work their watching ppl bag their stuff. Also locking the door at 9am on one side at night and you don’t have security guards outside or police to protect ppl at night. Keep the door unlocked so ppl don’t have to walk to the other side and worry about something happening to them.

I’m absolutely disgusted with my experience at the ShopRite in Hackensack, NJ, specifically at the deli department. As a Hispanic customer, I was next in line to place my order, and the deli slicer worker (a white male) blatantly skipped me to serve a white customer behind me — as if I was invisible. I immediately got that sickening feeling of being racially discriminated against, and I know exactly what that feels like. What’s even more disturbing is that when I told my family about it, they said this wasn’t the first time they’ve experienced racial discrimination in the deli department of this exact store. So this isn’t a one-time accident — it’s a pattern of racial bias against Hispanic customers. That speaks volumes about the kind of culture that’s being tolerated there. As a paying customer, I shouldn’t have to feel like less than simply because of my skin color or background. It’s 2025, and it’s absolutely disgusting that ShopRite still employs workers who think it’s okay to treat Hispanic customers like second-class citizens. This store should be ashamed. I will no longer spend a single penny at this ShopRite, and I strongly encourage any person of color — especially Hispanics — to be cautious when shopping here, especially at the deli counter. Racism has no place in any business, and it’s clear that this store has a serious problem in their deli department. Do better, ShopRite.

ShopRite of Hackensack opens at 7AM 1/12/25 The First Cashier 7 00 am on the express 10 items only lane is the worst she hates her job and hates customers so early in the morning. She is beyond rude and obnoxious. I feel sorry for the people who have to work with her or be treated by her as customers she will turn you away saying it's the express lane but allow other people with more items. Lets be clear I only had 14 items . She was so rude I had to self check out . Now I know why there are self check outs. Walmart has more checkouts polite People and 15 item express check out at 16 registers.

I had a disappointing experience with a cashier named Chris the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday). It’s the holiday season, a time when people should be feeling cheerful and spreading kindness. Instead, Chris displayed an unnecessary and dismissive attitude. When I politely asked if his register was open, he looked up at the light and said, “WELL, THAT’S WHAT THE LIGHTS FOR!” in a tone that felt rude and unprofessional. This kind of response was uncalled for. He also looked at me with a condescending gaze, as if I were ignorant. There are plenty of times when a cashier’s light is on, but the cashier still tells you they’re closed, whether it’s because they’re about to go on a break, their shift is ending, or they’re waiting for a manager to approve something. Because of that, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask if a cashier is open, even if their light is on. It’s just a simple question to avoid wasting time getting in the wrong line, and there’s no need for attitude when answering. A polite response would’ve made all the difference in that situation. I must admit that I am uncertain as to why I even chose to proceed to a cashier, as I generally prefer to utilize the self-checkout. This encounter has led me to definitively conclude that moving forward I will absolutely refrain from utilizing cashiers when self-checkout is an option. I’ve always appreciated ShopRite’s friendly staff, but this encounter stood out in a negative way. I understand that working in retail can be challenging, but a little courtesy goes a long way in creating a positive customer experience. I hope management addresses this and emphasizes the importance of respectful communication with customers especially during the holidays when patience and kindness matter most.

As of the second week of December 2023 Hackensack ShopRite has removed the tables and chairs from the bakery area !!!! ? Seniors with medical issues, such as myself, used them regularly to take a break while shopping in the store ! Just one example of many businesses becoming customer "UN-FRIENDLY" in different ways.....1/31/24 confronted regional manager and two store managers today asking about removal of the tables and chairs . LIED and said they don't know what happened! There's no way a regional manager and store manager know nothing about the removal! It's a testament to their lack of moral character that they would lie immediately instead of just telling the truth about why they were removed and haven't been brought back.

I've been a ShopRite customer for a long time, and today I went to the Hackensack location. Because it is convenient, I have been using the store for all groceries. fantastic supermarket Despite the fact that Hmart opened up nearby and it is clearly beginning to show its age, the store itself and all of the workers are excellent.

Love it here. Came to put in a catering order and net the manager Rob since I had a few questions. He was very nice and helped point me in the right direction. Diane in food service was also very helpful and the sweet lady in the front was gracious enough to offer me help as well. The supermarket is layed out well and very clean which I noticed right away. I ordered 3 ft heroes, penne a la vodka and a fruit platter. Everyone loves everything. Will definitely be back for future orders

Love how it’s always clean, I wish they would be more on top of the recalls rather than wait for you to be a checkout for it to inform you that the item is recalled. Staff is usually friendly, usually walking around but not always found. I love how they have a decent sized Goya isle, i wish they would have a bit more things so I wouldn’t have to make so many different grocery store trips in one day... but ah least they have the options they do offer. This location has a great amount of cleaning supplies in these times that’s a huge shocker!! Totally grateful for that!!

Clean, great choices of products, produce, meats, they do get busy during peak hours and things tend to slow down at the registers. Clean

Pretty good shop rite, massive selection of goods in store, cashier was uptight- apparently one shopper cart per day, meaning you can’t let your friend use your shopper card- very odd! Get the app, tons of digital coupons!
