What clients say about Auto Outfitters in Troy (MO)

I will start off that the staff is very friendly, but they are not always straight forward. Please read this whole review if you are thinking about having Auto Outfitters do work for you. I know its long, but it was a long and exhausting process dealing with this company. I ordered my ARE camper shell at the end of June 2025. They said that it would take 6-8 weeks to arrive and said they would update me when it shipped. I waited 7 weeks with no update, and called on week 8 to see where we were with it. They said that ARE is taking awhile and behind and they hoped it would only be another week. I waited 2 more weeks, and checked in again, they said it would be there in a couple days so we set up the appointment to get installed. When I arrived on my appointment date (I live 2 hrs away, and they were the closest dealer to me). The camper shell they had ordered was wrong. They had ordered it with the wrong side doors, and no front glass. He wouldn't tell me what happened, said that it was for a different customer and they had accidentally got it mixed up with mine. Instead of waiting around for them to figure it out, I made my drive back home he said he would call me with an update. Which they never did. I had to call 3 times the next day, with no call back, and then twice again the day after for them to finally update me. They said that it was in fact mine, but ARE had messed it up and they would have to send it back to get it fixed. It was no going to be another 4-6 weeks before I would receive it. I had asked to talk to the owner at this point to see what we cold do, whether it could be a refund, or discount for the hassle this process had been. The owner did talk to me, explained that it wasn't their fault and it was out of his hands and that he had to much on his plate to deal with issue and he would pass it on. Which he never did because I never heard anything more about compensation or other options. I waited another 3 weeks with no update from Auto Outfitters on where we were in correcting the wrong camper shell and they informed me that it was still sitting at their shop and ARE hadn't even picked it up yet. So I asked for a refund on the camper shell and they said they would look to see what they could do and never got back to me. I called ARE to go straight to the source to see what the issue was, and after talking to them, and their sales team they informed me that Auto Outfitters is the one that ordered the camper shell wrong but that it was on their list to pickup and redo. A week after I had talked to ARE, Auto Outfitters called me and said my camper shell had came in. I learned my lesson the first time and asked for pictures before I made the drive or appointment. They never sent me the photos after 2 days, so I called back and they informed me that my camper shell was not in, that they had it mixed up again and that mine still hadn't arrived. 5 months (20 weeks since ordering) Original Quote of Delivery (6-8 Weeks) I finally received the call that the camper shell had arrived and went to get it installed. They camper shell was correct this time, and during the install they came to me to tell me that the camper shell doesn't fit on my truck. They blamed it on ARE and that it was tweaked so it didn't align properly. They took me out to the shop to show me. I easily saw the issue and how to correct it and had to explain to the shop techs what to do to get it to align on the truck. I'm not hating on the shop guys at all because they were all super nice, and listened to what I had to say to get it to align on the truck like it was suppose too. But the lead guy in the shop I'm assuming because he was the oldest one there, and seemed to be the one telling the others what to do didn't have any interest in helping the other guys figure out this issue. I know the owner will write some excuse or long winded response about how he's not in the wrong. But after waiting over (x2) as long as I should've and your company being the one at fault. I feel like it should be a priority to correct the issue.

That was originally satisfied with Auto Fitters Troy When were your first talking about the modifications to my 2024 tundra. I was getting a 3 1/2 inch lift with 35 inch tires. I had a crack with five lights and a wiring system for the lights. The original truck when I picked it up, looked great. However, it all started with the tires when they were supposed to throw my brand new tires in the back of my truck I spoke to Drew during our initial conversation and he confirmed he will throw the tires in the back of my truck because they don’t take trade-ins when I went to pick my old tires which were brand new. They said they were picked up by the city of Troy for site restrictions on old tires. I had these tires sold for $150 apiece to my dad so that we could put her on his truck Drew once again said that the tires were gone and the best offer you could do for me just give me $150 cash. So there’s the first deal they went bad then the light stopped working so I went in and had them fix it and they Charge me for it then one of the lights fell off of the rack and they blamed it on somebody trying to steal in a light. Next thing you know the lights are out again and another light fell off, so I took it in and they charged me again for the repair and then the third time the lights went out. I had enough and I tore out the spaghetti mess that my five-year-old could’ve wired on this truck and guess what since I wired it myself by replacing all the wires and connectors. Everything is work great for the past couple months when they couldn’t even get them to work for two weeks at a time during this time, my sway bar link had a bolt fall out, and they were telling me that someone actually climbed under my truck to try to steal the bolt off of the swaybar so they charge me once again for it. All along I’m fighting for the charges every time and it just keeps compounding. The next thing you know the entire light bar falls backwards because some idiot had tightened down the bolt on the piston system too much and it broke the bolt so they fixed it and they charged me for it. Three weeks later I had the same thing happen and I told him I was fixing that one also and it’s been great ever since I did a professional repair on it now comes a fun part my my TPS system was not responding after the new tires were installed so I paid $100 to Toyota in Saint peters to verify which centers were installed. All of my factory ones were removed and they installed a cheap aftermarket model then they said they would fix it by replacing all four of them well once again they replaced all of them with four aftermarket models, and I’m still having a problem finally they installed actual Toyota sensors and now that’s finally working. All of these headaches were done with an approximately three months time with me paying them every time I came in drew ignoring me Drew supposed to call me Drew supposed to email me Drew walked right past in front of me and just ignores me. I would not Wish this headache on my worst enemy. There is no way that I will ever recommend or take my vehicle on that parking lot again don’t respond to this, which is the only response I can get that someone was trying to steal my life, but the wiring was just fine that the both of the swaybar was being stolen in my lights were being stolen, etc. from a business standpoint. Drew is the absolute most un respectful untrustful person I have ever dealt with do not take your vehicle to this location even if you just need to air up a tire.

Thank you Ken, Michelle & Matt for a great experience. Wife and I were tight on funds for a month or two so we took advantage of their financing option. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. We’ll be back for free rotations and oil changes. So glad you talked me into the bigger tires, Matt! Lookin’ tough. Walmart sucks. Shop Local.

Our vehicle was brought in for an alignment, we had just had major work done to it and needed someone with a special machine to align it. The staff at Auto Outfitters were unprofessional, initially they didn’t want to honor my appointment, stated more repairs needed to be done before they could align it, they gave me a price that doubled upon completion(?) without consulting me, and my vehicle was in worse condition when I picked it up than it was when I dropped it off. Their response to myself was they did nothing wrong and to our trusted mechanic that our car shouldn’t be on the road, however if that were true then why make repairs and take our money.

Had an alignment done today on my 2013 F350, did a great job had a bolt break and the mechanic who did my alignment took care of it. Honest and do great work will be recommending anyone who needs an alignment in Lincoln county area. The alignment mechanic with the orange shirt needs a raise he does good work!!

Went to auto outfitters to see if they could get some lockouts taken off . (No key ,other places said they would have to grind them off at 2 hours per tire. They where after market ) . They where friendly an went right out to check they had nothing there so they ordered one I went back and it was not the right key ,but they took it in and got them all four off in no time at all . I don't know how the did it ,but For me they went out of there way to help me and that means a lot.

Took my car there because it was overheating, they changed a fan relay and charged me $99 just to look at the car when they told me it would cost $50. The part was $19.99, they told me my block was cracked but I don't think they took the head off and still charged me over priced and car still over heats. Will never go there again.

This place is terrible. He keeps paying to have Google remove any bad reviews. We had our bug done here and was told over and over again that our bill was not very much at all. I continued to ask every week for a bill on how much it was going to be. Then they slapped me with almost $8,000. This was after I said in the beginning I did not want to go over $3000

I had new tires put on my truck. These tire look and drive better than any tire i have had on my truck. The kenda klever r/t is what was installed. I have alway been a BFG tire guy but auto outfitters helped me make a very informed decision to change brands and that i woild not be disappointed. They were right. I stoped in for a quote and ended up with new tires that same day. Nothing but praise for Drew, Jennifer and Matt. Honest upfront people that looked out for me to make the decisions i need to.

Wonderful service at auto outfitters. I went in for a safety inspection and left with my car's pulling problem fixed. As I sat in their (very comfy) waiting lounge for about an hour, I observed how close knit the staff was and how each person who walked in was treated respectfully and fairly. The owner Drew went the extra mile to make sure I received the best service, and even gave me a call after they closed to see if my car's issue was fixed. I highly recommend and trust Auto Outfitters. Oh, and don't forget to buy a pumpkin sold out front ;)

Usually don’t leave reviews but this was ridiculous. Made an appointment for 8 AM at auto solutions / outfitters, I tried to come prepared. I got myself checked in, handed over the keys and sat patiently waiting for an inspection. At about the hour mark I noticed my vehicle had not even moved, so I asked what was going on? I was told over an hour and a half later after my original appointment time that the inspector was not even in the building and that it would not be until noon that they would be in. No other auto stores have openings for inspections today considering it is the 28th, almost the end of the month. Horrible waste of my time, I do not recommend getting serviced by these folks. What a JOKE.

We were on our way from Iowa City to St. Louis and got a flat tire on the highway right before the Troy exit. It was Friday after 5:00 but they had their overhead door open so we stopped in to see if they could help. They set us up with the fix we needed at a fair price and friendly customer service. They went above and beyond to stay late on the weekend and we certainly appreciated it.

Thank you guys so much for all your help! I'll definitely be coming back and referring everybody I know if they have car needs ??

Owner and staff very friendly, only thing suggested is don't throw curve balls. They specialize in my opinion on lifts, wheels and tires, and guard rails. When roof mounts, wiring, or aftermarket front bumpers are in the equation, that's when they have issues. Wiring on the roof rack was with zip ties instead of brackets, I also asked about hiding the 42-inch light bar wire in the beginning. They said they could drill and plug it up. As I looked forward to doing business with them, I informed the owner and tech I wanted that completed. After going back to the shop, I found roof rack wires zip tied and never did the 42" light bar. Came back with the front bumper and winch about 2 months later. Brackets for the front bumper weren't installed, causing the wheel well to rub with the tires. They're not bad, they are friendly staff, but I think if you're looking for parts, buy from them as they've installed those multiple times. 3/5. Wish I could give more, but attention to detail is 1 star, and quick installation is another. But in fairness, I'm pretty sure they only have 1 tech installing the majority of everything. Edit : Now going into the next week of work and reading the owners response, I don't feel i added enough information. The first purchase was quoted 3 hrs 2 hrs (110 an hour), 45 was the cable for roof lights, then after that was labor. (not a big issue). And money wasn't an issue for that job. The issue is we (Owner and tech) both understood the ask / request for the wire. When i went to pick up the vehicle after the work had noticed that the cord was still over the windshield and when i inquired about it, I was informed that the tech didn't have the plugs at that point in time. One of the main reasons i brought it up there and i was told by (Owner) yeah, we can hide that, and make it look good. But going back into getting a bumper installed when quoted one thing and was informed another, that's why the 2nd installation i said i wasn't looking for anything over 1000 at the moment. (as hours kept climbing) I do appreciate setting at a firm hours worked, but reality is as such, quoted 6 1/2, went to 7 1/2, full time upon return 14 hrs since drop off at 8:30 AM Friday - Saturday 2 PM. After the bumper bracket not being shown in the video or provided in the install video. I have included a link from the manufacturers website addressing the "no call out" https://youtu.be/rNIlqj2O-Qs?si=8tUhYDAANdfKY6XW&t=894 where it clearly states how they need to be orientated and mounted. P.S.S. after replacing the battery because of the dead battery after the tech fried the old switch. come to find out tonight as i went into work again. the battery is dead again. Brand new at $230 dollars. 750 CCA. Tech knew he fried something as when i went into the shop to look at the bumper install, all fuses were pulled out that i installed after return of the vehicle. Now i have to take it to an actual mechanical shop for diagnosis on what is "grounded out" as your tech put it. You're good people. But unfortunately i will not return, even if you offered to fix things for free. Good luck on your business and hopefully things turn around for the better. I will include detailed information after i find the issue where its grounded, and i will include pictures of the work that was done. Edit 2. Pics uploaded, installed brackets for bumper (1/2 hour), damage done to wheel from no installation, the 2 pictures are 1 with a bracket, and the damage to wheel well from no installation on the other, zip ties of roof rack also included. Electrical tape around bar installation. Still working out where the short is. Will continue edit once found. Edit 3: After taking it back to the dealership, the dealership determined it was the remote starter that was fried. $565 for diagnostic and now $200 that I'll have to replace. I waited about 36 hrs before trying to start after I parked the vehicle. It started right up so in conclusion too much money spent on a place that doesn't take accountability.

This place is amazing. Our GMC Yukon had been sitting dead for 2 months because of lifters collapsing and other issues. Local dealers and repair shops wanted a fortune to repair our engine. Matt "front counter person at Auto Outfitters " advised me to bring it in and let their mechanic "Mike" check it out. Mike and owner Drew were awesome. My engine had major problems which required disassembly. Drew researched parts and machinist for the best value and quality. Mike and Matt kept me informed of the progress and cost throughout the process. I ended up getting high quality repairs and saved a fortune over dealer repair cost. I wish I had discovered Auto Outfitters sooner. They do everything from oil changes to major engine work.

I have a brand new 2022 F350 STX never been touched by any shop but this place i was driving down highway 70 heading home after work and almost lost complete control of my vehicle my truck started throwing codes Such as check, engine lights, traction control, , engine, coolant, over temp all kinds of things. It completely shut my vehicle down. I was barely able to get off the highway as cars were swerving around me every which way thank God I didn’t have my son and my wife with me I managed to get off the highway safely call the tow truck and get it towed to Ford immediately. As soon as they opened the hood, they saw the aftermarket lights they had installed on my truck into the fuse box they lifted up my fuse box cover, and the whole box was corroded to where they did not properly seal the top of the battery junction box lid, properly, which allowed water to leak down and fry my whole fuse box hints all the electrical problems vehicle shut down, etc. I went back-and-forth with these guys a couple weeks it’s always excuse after excuse even went up there in person and tried to meet with them. They always had an excuse about why they were not willing to cover the $1200 solution from Ford tried to tell me I would have to tow my vehicle up there and come out of my pocket more money from the shabby Work they did like I said, I’m happy I wasn’t in the truck with my family at the time and it was just me it could’ve been very tragic, I’m just thankful to still be here moral of the story. Don’t let these guys do any type of electrical work on your vehicle they can put you in a very bad situation and they do not stand behind their work. I even offered to let them pay half the bill and still no response , Troy is a very small place and I have been a resident. My whole life was really hoping they would honor their work but unfortunately they do not stand behind their work even sent over pictures from Ford and tried literally everything else under the sun just for them to keep giving excuse after excuse. Be careful with these guys , their lack of electrical wiring knowledge could potentially get you in a bad car accident newer makes and models they don’t know enough about them and they probably shouldn’t be working on them again I would never recommend any electrical work from this place such as light bars, aftermarket, lighting, or anything along them lines I have receipts and thorough documentation to prove any of this. Be safe. If you let work on your vehicle, It could cost you your life. I am truly disappointed in this place and as long as I’ve been in this town, I’m sure they’ve lost quite a bit of business also, heads up if you have problems with them, don’t waste your time just take them the small claims court with thorough documentation then they will pay for your time off work, lawyer fees, and a bad review I just thought I would put this here for anybody else who is actively seeking work from these people. Feel free to check my Facebook out as I made a post about this as well with picture documentation emails etc. again, I’m sure they will respond with yet some other excuse about how they have tried to contact me or reach out to me and I Assure any Lincoln county resident this is not correct information if they response is anywhere along the lines my name is Cody Dorman hey, very well-known general contractor in the Lincoln County area. Feel free to look for my Facebook for pictures and more information regarding the matter. Thank you if you took the time to read and have a God blessed day.

I have only good things to say about Auto Outfitters! My daughter and I stopped at Auto Outfitters on a very rainy day. Her beat-up dodge Dakota didn't pass the safety inspection due to an accident that damaged the bumper and headlight. On recommendation, we stopped in Auto Outfitters to see if they could possibly fix her truck headlight and bumper. Without hesitation, Drew Caruso (owner) fit us in that very day! I am sorry I don't remember the mechanics name, but I sure can recommend their work! This place has our business whenever their is a need for our vehicles. Great place and group that work there. Drew has been very willing to work with us. Thank you Drew Caruso!

I couldn’t be happier with the tire and wheel combo Drew chose for my truck. Job was finished in timely manner and the staff was knowledgeable and professional. I will definitely do business again with Auto Outfitters!!!

These guys have went above and beyond for me. Even answer my questions days later. I would highly recommend them. They installed a tonneau cover for me and tinted my windows. Also a front end alignment and tire rotation. Super nice people

Shop local before heading to a big box store. Auto Outfitters went out of their way to make sure we found the toolbox we wanted. It looks great! Thank you!

Drew is amazing. He called to confirm my appointment for my rims. I told him there was a scheduling conflict due to my car waiting a rear window switch replacement from Cadillac. He says, “oh no, don’t do that. I can do it for half of what they’ll charge you.” That he did, and with amazing customer service. The whole staff is friendly and super patient. Pretty sure it took me a good 30min in store and then another phone call the next day to finally choose my rims. They were fantastic.

This place has been wonderful to my Grand CaraVan on more than one occasion. They always find you the best prices for your budget and the work is excellent. The people are very knowledgeable, friendly, and make things easily understandable; even to the non-mechanical people(like myself). This time, a very sweet lady gave me a ride home while they get my Van some new tires. I'm just grateful I did not have a wreck with a bad tire. New tires definitely were needed, especially with our current weather. Thanks for all your help, hard work, understanding, compassion, and of course the ride home.?

Drew, Jason, and the crew there at auto outfitters are class act guys. The service I received their was awesome. I got new wheels and tires with a leveling kit put on my Ram. The way it has transformed my truck with their helpful tip on wheel and tire dimensions really made the truck. On top of Drew taking me back to my house when I didn’t have a way back home was above and beyond my expectations. I highly recommend these guys, they have definitely earned my business!!

Great experience! Jason and Drew were both great to work with! I got a 3 inch lift , updated bump stops, larger tires and even threw in a last minute request for an oil change. The staff knocked it out of the park. It's wonderful to have a local shop to support that does great work and has excellent customer service. I'll be going back!

Excellent customer service and excellent results to a lift and new tires we had done for our F-150. Could not be happier with Auto Outfitters. The owner is very professional and thorough. He gave the best customer service when I was talking with him about the work that was done on our truck. His staff was very friendly when I went back to pick up the parts that were taken off of the truck after the lift was completed. I will definitely refer Auto Outfitters!!
