TLDR: Blatantly misled about mechanical condition of an already overpriced prior salvage car, lots of corners cut, then left me to diagnose and fix it myself.
Bought a prior salvage plug-in hybrid in 2023. It was overpriced but I needed it immediately for work so I paid asking price. Didn't have time to fully inspect it myself but felt that they were honest. Unfortunately that turned out to be a mistake. I was told nothing was wrong with the car and the listing description did not state any issues. The steering rack was bent and pinion damaged, with an obvious sound, feel, and alignment issue. The ECM, BCM, and a couple hybrid modules were flashed or programmed incorrectly causing the car to only run on gas, never able to use the battery which is the purpose of the car and reason for its price. The title has an odometer discrepancy which I was not told about until I was there to finalize the sale. The air box had a rodent nest that must have been at least 6 months old (and the filter appeared aged), as well as droppings in the engine bay and pieces of chewed electrical tape. We had an agreement to flush the trans fluid and provide proof (pictures) but I never got those pics and a test later showed that if it was done at all, it was changed, not flushed. 12V battery was a flooded battery from 2021 with the labels ripped off (not from previous owner, that 12V was completely dead in salvage yard), but the car spec is a vented AGM and for the price of the car a fresh battery is a minimum expectation. Headlight that was replaced on crashed side wasn't adjusted and was way off, paint started flaking on replaced body parts, engine fuse box had some weird corrosion / leak, various covers throughout engine bay missing, undercarriage splash and aero panels damaged... bunch of small things like that. I had contacted them for a couple weeks to try to resolve some of the major issues but I didn't have time to bring the car in on their schedule and wasn't offered a loaner... and they wanted me to pay for the ECM flash so I could only assume the steering fix wouldn't be covered either. Pretty disappointing, I didn't have time to deal with the back and forth and didn't want to run the risks of them "fixing" the car anymore, so after all the research I poured into it and being an electromechanical technician I repaired it all myself over the last year, including the programming mess and a bit of wiring. They got about $10,000 more from me than the car was truly worth in the condition I drove it off the lot, but I voided my options for dealing with it outside of a lawsuit and nobody wants that so here we are writing an unfavorable review. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is they're clearly very busy, work hard, and most of this may have been an oversight or miscommunication since it's a very unique and complex car. Still wouldn't buy from them until things get more organized, or more honest, whichever is truly the problem.

Raise the standard or lower prices. I can only imagine what hasn't been noticed or reported by non-mechanical people who have bought a half-repaired car from them.
We purchased a secondhand Toyota Sienna from Max at American Motors Dec 2025. We’re very happy with our experience and the vehicle. Max was quick to respond throughout, even on a Sunday night. Let us take the vehicle on a test drive with kids in car seats and for an independent inspection at a local mechanic. He was kind and patient, even with our kids taking over the lobby. We were a bit nervous to purchase from a small dealer without any warranty - in lieu, Max promised discounted mechanic work for the next few weeks if needed. And he followed through - we decided to replace the vehicles radiator right away (we were aware of leak before purchase) and his shop repaired next day for us at less than half the price we were quoted elsewhere. My husband and I both felt Max was trustworthy and are pleased with our experience.
American Motors made the process easy, providing tips and help all along the way. They’re very inviting and friendly and I can’t thank them enough for getting me into my 2020 civic.

I purchased a car from Max and Margarita now 3 years ago. I was nervous because it was a Salvage title, and I had never worked with them before. If you are considering purchasing a car from them, I’m here to ease any concerns you have. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned- drives like brand new. I’ve only needed to bring it in once! They take their job seriously and hardworking and passionate about every car they sell. They own a sister business, Autobody Excellence, just down the street. I got into an accident and needed to just get it drivable before the insurance claim came in. I drove up and they immediately had me pull up and took care of it- and I’m here again right now with a light issue that happened in the crash and they dropped everything to take a look. They are a family owned business and very trustworthy. Give them a chance. You will not regret it!! I recommend them to everyone I know, and the sort of service they offer is so rare nowadays. I’m so happy to have found a mechanic I can trust. They also work with a local bank here to secure your loan on a salvage title, because the bank trusts their work so much. I love my car and love supporting their business. I’ll definitely buying any cars in the future through them! Here is Max working to find the issue last minute at end of day.
Worst customer service ever we drove over an hour to look at oldsmobile bravado when we got there we were told the salesperson was in traffic asked if we could look at it and we're told no. The office was cold and dirty 15 minutes later the salesperson came in carrying a case of beer and asked if we wanted to buy it we said we have not even looked at it he shows it to us then says we can take for a drive but he will have to jump it. I said why would you have to jump it you said you put a new battery in he is very rude and says it needs to be jumped he then goes and gets the keys he starts it. It's making a funny noise. My husband w as inspecting it and has found that the frame is rusted out. Like it's nit ev safe to be on the road. The heat and radio don't work we never took it for test drive because we didn't feel safe. We go back in to talk to him he says the heat and radio don't work because it needs the control panel we were told that the only thing not working was the headlights my husband brings up the point about the rusted frame he says what do expect from a 15 year old vehicle we tell him it's a safety issue. He does not seem to care. Needless to say we will not be back. They are trying to sell a unsafe vehicle

I honestly don't know how this place has 4.7 stars but this is the worst place to buy a vehicle from. If I could rate this place 0 stars, I would. I bought my first car from them back in 2020. It was a 2017 BMW 320I X Drive. When I picked up the car that day, the car had bird poop on the window, the car was NOT CLEAN inside out and the gas had 3 miles. I went home with it that way. Fast forward 2 days into having the vehicle, I was driving home from hanging out with a couple of friends and my stirring wheel stiffened. I got so nervous so I pulled into the closest gas station and contacted the seller right away, they gave me the contact to the previous owner of the car and he told me he never had this issue before. I brought the car to BMW to get the car diagnosed and they said that rats chewed into the front wires causing my stirring wheel to act the way it did. I informed the seller's about the issue & she asked me WHY I BROUGHT IT TO BMW & then blocked my cell phone number. This was the most unprofessional service I've ever received coming from a " 5 star " place. I WOULD NEVER BUY FEOM THEM AGAIN & do not recommend buying any vehicles from their lot. I paid out of pocket to fix my vehicle and found out there was more issues other than the wires. Learn from me.
We bought a cheap car and found some issues they weren’t aware of. When I reached out to let them know, they jumped right in and solved the issue! I know others have written they had a different experience but we were just nice to them and asked kindly and they took care of us! Bought a really terrible BMW X1 from this place. It was in for repairs three times within the first week, again the week after that, and now again two months later. I've been quoted more than the purchase price of this thing in necessary repairs, to the tune of over $15,000. Repairs are related to issues that had come up and been fixed cheaply before I bought the car. The certified mechanic I'm working with also found error codes were reset without work having been done. No way to know if that happened at this dealer or if it was the previous owner. Additionally, an airbag deployment in the car's history was disclosed on all previous sales of this car — until mine! I had asked Margarita about the car's history over the phone and was told, "The title is clean." I guess I'm sticking to certified cars from now on.

What a fantastic experience my wife and I had with American Motors. We bought a salvage title vehicle, and they were completely transparent about it. Max showed us the pictures of the damage and gave us a list of everything that was fixed. Then the engine light came on after we bought the car, and Max had us bring it back and spent 3 hours to fix fix it on a Friday night free of charge. I completely recommend going to American Motors. I will be bringing my business back to American Motors. I would like to make an addition to my review. I cannot say enough good things about this dealership. My wife and I have had our car a little bit now. We found out that the washer fluid tank had a leak which was broken before we bought the car. Max had us bring the car back to fix it at no charge to us. We also found out the hard way that we didn't have a spare tire in the car. Max again took care of us and put one in after fixing the washer fluid tank. With out question I will be going back when my wife and I are looking for a car or truck. In a time of questionable people this is an honest dealership. Way to go Max.
