This place is terrible. I spent time cutting down cardboard to the size they wanted and then they wouldn't take it. They said it was too much, and rude about it. The website specifically says to call about loads bigger than a truck bed before arriving to set a time. My load was less than a truck bed, and they would not take it. They want to world to recycle, but make it a pain to do it. Now it goes to the landfill.
Great place to grab free paint for small projects, wall paper stripper, or spa chemicals. And even better place when you need to drop off any hazardous household waste. Awesome that they have this reuse option instead of putting it in the landfill.
Easy process…never had to get out of the car!
I do advise checking the website before going, so items require payment. And it holds everyone else up if you don’t pay first.
Went to this facility on November 13, 2024 @ 11:15 am hence was done and out by 11:35 am. I paid $20 for two TVs (2 x $10), plus cardboard and some used dead batteries. Didn't know what to expect when I got there as it was my first time there. With that said.
There were about 4 cars ahead of me, and things were moving along pretty smoothly. One must wait at a stop though that proceeds some railroad tracks. Not a good idea to be waiting in a car on railroad tracks. Lol.
Anywho, once I made it to the employee sitting in a shack handed him my Driver's license, and $20 for the two TVs. He then gave me a receipt and told me to use lanes 2 or 3. I did wait for a few minutes until I made it up to the unloading spot. An employee unloaded the back of my SUV in no time flat.
In closing all the employees that I encountered today were polite and nice. No issues to mention. And the picture below gives you an idea of fees for TV and tires.
Terrible staff and open mistreatment. I had a bag of paint and was told at the ID booth to stay in lane 2 or 3. Lane 1 splits off on a cement divide. I was yelled at from across the receiving area after being in line for 15 minutes to get in Lane 1. I rolled down my window to explain I had paint for Lane 2 or 3. He yelled at me again and clearly did not care that I couldn't drive over a curb and cement divider to get in Lane 1. He proceeded to yell at the next car behind me stating, "If that guy doesn't want to listen, get in Lane 1". Once at the dropoff there are plenty of other people yelling at everyone who goes through about how to open up their cars, not to get out of you car and laughing at each other about their behavior. DO NOT GO HERE.There is clearly an attitude of disrespect and they really do not care how they treat you. One time was enough for me. I'll find some other way to recycle.
Treated very poorly. When I pulled up I told the employee two times that would like my 3 bins back, and I was ignored. He took one of my bins and threw it to the side with the recyclable items in it. Told him again that I needed it back. He said they were unstaffed and can’t do that. Was told to stay in my car. I asked how to get the bin back and he said I should go park in the lot and I could unload the rest of my items by myself. I did that and when a different employee saw me walking with heavy items, he wheeled a cart over for me. This employee explained that next time I should bring the items in a box. Now I know never to make this mistake again! I found the first discarded bin in the pile of stuff. I hope they don’t treat everyone this poorly.

I drove at a normal speed up to the sign that says "stop here". Stop the car and sit there.
Out of nowhere one employee gets really mad that I'm stopped and starts yelling st me. Mr. unhinged tells me to pull forward, I do, he then yells at me that I'm not forward far enough, so I pull up further. Then I go to get out and he yells at me to stay in my car. Ok I sit in my car. Rather than asking me what I'm dropping off they then start opening my car and pulling random stuff out of my car like they're robbing me.
Now alarmed, I'm forced to get out of my car so they don't steal my stuff that isn't there to be recycled. Mr. unhinged employee keeps yelling and yelling and telling me I "there's other recycling places you don't need to go here!".
Is there anyone in charge here? I didn't feel safe as an adult, I can't image what it would be like if a teen or someone was dropping off here.
Line was quite long, stretching down Dodd road a little ways when I first got in line. Took just a few minutes to get up to the pleasant booth attendant. Couple minutes later the stuff I was recycling was out of my car and I was on my way. Very efficient and friendly service. Thank you.
This recycling zone is such a great idea and is very well executed.
It’s such a great way to keep all of these chemicals and electronics out of the landfills, while providing a fantastic service at a zero or minimal cost.
The workers were friendly and polite as well.
Place is excellent. Very clean and organized. With handicapped parking and entrance and also clean handicapped accessible bathrooms. Would highly recommend to all. Go ahead and give Dakota County Recycling Zone a visit now.

Just moved to area and thought I had.identified this center for recycling all of our cardboard from the packing. Terrible experience. Website here noted service W-Sat from 9:00. Pulled in as 1st car to queue at gate. Other vehicles drove around to door against clearly marked traffic directions.
So I pulled up to line and was asked if I had an appointment. Was rudely told this is for business only. Must be a completely different website.
Nice to know my new home’s tax dollars are being well spent.
Very nice facility. Quick and efficient service with drive through check in. We dropped off waste paint and unusable electronics for free. Check Dakota county website for more details on acceptable items.
The line is long if you get there before they open. With that said, the line moves fast and there is no charge if you live in Dakota county. Friendly staff that works quick. Keep up the great work and thanks for recycling my old junk. It makes me feel good knowing it won't end up in a landfill.
Very organized. Be prepared for long wait. I got there 1 hour before opening was 2nd in the door. By 8:05 am there were cars lined up out on Dodd Rd for about a 1/4 mile.
I've been using this facility more the 20 years, no complaints.
Excellent services & helpful personnel. All college/high school kids are hard workers & went out of their way.
An older gentleman behind counter can't remember his name, always there when I dropped off my used automobile oil. He's very efficient & get the kids motivated..
Easy and convenient. They unload the recycling material for you, which is an added bonus. Also, with the recent remodel, you no longer need to run into the main building to swipe your drivers license, as they now have a drive-thru spot where an employee swipes your ID and directs you on where to go.
Like so many others, I've been using the Recycling Zone for years. It's a facility staffed by helpful, courteous hard-working people. I really appreciate the services they offer. No matter how busy it gets, they're always friendly. Great people make for a great service!
They should pick up their phones. Thanks for having me drive all the way from richfield only to be yelled at for asking a simple question: am I able to get old motherboards from computers for a craft project. Completely rude and disrespectful; little old lady who pulled up, had to get out of her car, use her walker to go inside, and ask for help, despite being able to be seen by the guys just hanging out at the counter just inside and to right of the door as she was waving for help
I have brought ALL KINDS of things there for YEARS! The staff is always nice and helpful! The "Free shelf" is great as well! I wish hours were later more often....but 8PM two days a week is not bad! I'm very happy a place like this exists! Help keep our environment clean and recycle over tossing in a landfill!!!
I called ahead and they answered quickly and were polite. I brought all the boxes from my recent move as well as some lightbulbs and got the same service when I arrived.
After I pulled up, someone came out and asked what I had, loaded the boxes/cardboard into a cart and took the lights. I walked in to scan my license and was on my way.

I was referred here from Anoka County to get a compost bin. The bins are of high quality and are easy to set up. The are about half of what they sell for in other places so it was definitely worth the drive. Make sure to follow signage off of Dodd Rd because you could easily end up in Gopher Resource and not really know where to go. Parking seems like it might get limited if they are busy, the guy says they average two cars a minute. They give 25 cents a pound for aluminum cans and nothing more. More of a courtesy to do it. Nice thing is they recycle unused chemicals and cleaning supplies so if you need to drop off or pick some up, stop here first! Great staff, very helpful. They don't accept credit/debit cards if you are buying something. Cash or check only.
