What clients say about Wildt Brothers Automotive Repair in Louisville (KY)

Staff was very knowledgeable, service done same day that I dropped my car off for repair. Came her for a second opinion and felt confident that the staff knew what they were doing and did things correctly. Prices are extremely fair. There was a diagnostics charge but was reasonable with price of repair. They did not try to upsell me on anything that I didn’t need. Highly recommend.

I took my wife's 2009 Ford Edge to Wildt Bros. to service the A/C about a month ago which was blowing warm air. I dropped the car off with an appointment first thing in the morning. While it was there, I had the rear wheel bearings replaced because they were worn out. The A/C had a ruptured hose which was replaced, the system was vacuumed down and recharged with refridgerant. The wheel bearings were replaced with new parts. When I picked up the car, the total bill was $2,329. They charged me $364 EACH for the wheel bearings, and $1,216.60 for labor, (They had the car for a day). I checked with NAPA and full retail, (my price) the bearings were $150 each for the same part. When I confronted management about the exhorbant pricing of the wheel bearings, they retreated to gaslighting me about how these were "special heavy duty" bearings that came with a super warranty that was reciprocal anywhere in the U.S. (whaat?) The next day the A/C was back to it's normal ambient outside warm temperature. I took the car back and they confessed to damaging the hose during it's installation. They replaced the damaged hose and recharged the system, no charge. Hence, my overly high 3-star rating. You may overcharge me once, but it will not ever happen again between me and Wildt Bros. Automotive.

This place has been in business for 53 years, opened by two brothers and still owned by them. I think that says it all!

Took my car in for a general inspection, gave them the go-ahead to fix what needed to be fixed. Less than 12 hours after i picked the car up (the very next time i drove it), a loud rattle began and i immediately took it back. Apparently a rubber hanger holding my muffler (that they… missed? Didn’t bother to check?) broke, causing my exhaust to drop, and resulting in my needing to replace the muffler. Charged me an additional $30 for what they missed the first time and sent me on my way without so much as an “oops, sorry”. I can’t help but wonder if i wouldn’t need a whole new muffler if only we had been lucky enough to catch the splitting rubber piece in the diagnostic check I had originally requested.

The first thing I'd like to share is, THEY WOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS THIS LONG IF THEY ARE DOING BAD BUSINESS!! (15+ yr's) ESPECIALLY BEING LOCATED IN THE HEART OF LYNDON/ ST MATTHEWS AREA.. I was raised in the area and they been in business as long as I can remember.. I mean.. That right there speaks a lot about a business, especially being located in a High-end/ East End area... I brought my fiance's 2000 Buick LeSabre into their shop because her car was running extremely rough. I'm pretty mechanical inclined but I could not pinpoint the issue. I started off by telling them just to take care of the six spark plugs. There are three plugs located in the back of the engine that is very difficult to get to and they have the right equipment to do it. I could handle the coil packs and the wires myself. They called me on the phone and told me that it was the coil pack that was giving me issues and that to the cylinders were not firing. How was the little confused at first because I am mechanically inclined but also only to certain vehicles that I've owned through my years. Well I have never heard of an Ignition Control Module (ICM) before so I never thought about checking or replacing it. After I got off the phone with him I decided to do some research and came to the conclusion that I was capable enough to replace the (ICM) unit along with the coil packs and spark plug wires. So I went back to him and told him that I was going to replace all the parts myself other than the spark plugs. But since there's nothing wrong with the spark plugs I'm not worried about changing them right at the moment unless the problem does not fix after the parts are installed. I asked him at first what do I owe him because over the phone before I arrived I mentioned something to him that I might just fix it all myself and he said that's fine all you owe me is it diagnostic fee. (Which it is perfectly okay to pay somebody for their knowledge) And he told me don't worry about it, just get the car taken care of. He did not charge me nothing and I even offered him $40 just for the wise wisdom he gave me because now because of his knowledge that he shared with me I was able to fix my fiance's car, an issue that we've been dealing with for almost a year now and I have fixed my fiance's car and it is straight up running like a brand new car now!! Also if they're offering to fix your car yes it's going to cost a few hundred dollars because it probably difficult to do.. if it was easy we wouldn't need mechanics.. But anyways people.. the owner and his crew have to make a living just like us and obviously they're not rolling rich. They offer a fair asking price and are very knowledgeable on vehicles. I encourage anyone to trust these honest mechanics and their knowledge (don't forget nobody's perfect also) but like I said they are old school wise men that are just trying to make a decent living. Recommend these mechanics to help you with your mechanic needs!

Driver's side window was off track. Took it to Wildt Bros midday on Wednesday. Looked busy. As usual. Expected to get car back on Thursday. BUT NO! A couple hours later THE SAME DAY they called to tell me it was ready! Also fixed fuel door that hadn't been working. Which I'm very thankful for. Price was right too. Thank You Wildt Bros!

Took a newly purchased car in for inspection and paid $130 to have them tell me there’s rust and top off fluids? Took it to another mechanic for the rust who advised it’s just surface rust due to age. Also pointed out repairs (for free) that were not caught from the inspection I paid for. Will not come back here.

When I asked if I needed brake pads they said I could probably get 3k-5k more miles out of them. They gave me solid advice and didn't try to fleece me. They did the work I asked for and no problems. I'll be back

I had an alternator blow without warning. I dropped my car off late on a Friday afternoon mentally braced to be without reliable transportation for the weekend and perhaps longer, but it was fixed in less than hour at a reasonable price. As a college student with classes, a full-time job, a part-time internship, and not much of a support system to fall back on, having such a quick turn around on the repair saved me from so much stress and money I would've had to sink into transportation over the weekend otherwise. It was a great experience and I'm super grateful!

I had a broken lower control arm they priced it called an made appointment priced fair then I had it towed to them on a Friday morning. To be done by Tuesday but they called early afternoon and said you're ready to go .They had a gentleman pick me up and take me to their place on Lyndon Lane. Thirty minutes later I was driving a really smooth trip home. Fantastic service answered all my questions and wrapped it up. I highly recommend the Wildt Brothers. Great service and work thank you.

Car was overheating as we were driving through Louisville. Wildt's had a good rating so I pulled in there. Gordon was a great and honest mechanic. Fixed me up and we were back on the road. Great place

I had a really fantastic experience with Wildt Brothers replacing my radiator. They were very fair with their price, clear with what they were going to service, didn't try to upsell anything, and communicated with me multiple times during throughout the process. The communication was above and beyond and they've made a life long customer with me. Highly recommended!

They handled a repair on my 2006 Subaru that several other shops wouldn't touch...replacement of the evaporator core for my air conditioner. They also addressed a couple of other items...cabin filter...low radiator fluid. Their work was timely, accurate, and high quality. They were respectful and professional. Bring your mask...some of the staff have risk factors.

Prompt, professional, and seems affordable compared to my experiences with other shops. Also honest, which I appreciated. They clearly explained the issues and instead of trying to upsell me, they were transparent about which repairs were necessary and which ones were optional. Will definitely be back and recommending to friends and family!

This place is amazing.hands down. The employees where really helpful. They even drew me a diagram to show me where my car needed a repair and sent me pictures of the area on my car showing where it was broken. Super helpful. Great labor prices. Will always go back to these guys.

I've read some of the reviews before I even had them tow our car Friday. (3/26/21) & even after choosing them I was absolutely terrified & worried because of the few bad reviews. BUT I GOTTA SAY GUYS. As some one who goes to junk yards & fixs small problems with cars. It IS HARD work. & TIME consuming. For people to think it's going to be "cheap" is completely absurd. We bought our own parts & they fixed it up quickly. Got our car back the same day. As an adult with a job & things to do. That is absolutely amazing & awesome. I dont know his name but he was so helpful & informative. We will definitely be sticking to the Wildt Brothers!!

Butch Wildt and his crew have performed nearly all repairs on our family automobiles for over 20 years, even back in the day when they used to represent and sell BP gas...yes, that long ago! They are very up-to-date on performing repairs on late-model cars, and will tell you up-front if a repair needs to be done by the dealer. I've taken my car in their and been told "we'd love to do it for you, but this is under a recall and you need to contact the dealer to get it done at no cost. And they've told me when repairs would be more than the value of the car, to scrap it...etc.. Those are the types of guys they are. And I've never had to take a car back to get a repair "repaired again." AND you're supporting a locally owned business!

I brought my vehicle here for a coil pack repair. I was greeted promptly. I dropped off my vehicle, got a call with cost estimate and was able to pick up my vehicle in about four hours total time! Service was prompt and communication was excellent! I was happy with the price too. I will definitely return for future service needs. Great job!

My car broke down 200 ft from their location. I walked over to see if a machanic can come and look at it, knowing all it needed was a new bolt for one of the cables connected to the car battery. They looked at me and said they can only help me if I rolled my car over (which was 200 ft away). I understand that they only want to do business in their location, but what does this show of customer care on their part? After 30 minutes I finally got the car started up and took it to the store, he looked at it for 5 minutes and put it just a new screw and bolt they charged me $12. I do not recommend this location to anyone. Poor service, and a poorly ran business.

Friendly and knowledgeable, will definitely be returning for car repairs in the future. I had a lot of questions about what was going on with my car and the guys at Wildt answered with so much patience. Also very happy with the cost of the work compared to other shops in the area.

Sucks to say this: A few weeks ago, while getting a dead battery jumped, the cables were put on the wrong leads. This immediately blew the ECTS fuse in my car - which is very very very easy and cheap to replace, but I wanted other stuff checked out, too. I got the car dropped off at Wildt, and left a detailed voice message telling them to replaced the ECTS fuse and to test/confirm the fuseable links and alternator were still okay. Wildt charged me $171.16 to replace the single fuse - which did get my accelerator working again. I questioned the charge (it seemed excessive for just replacing a single fuse), they explained that they spent "a lot of labor/time" checking the car out. That made some sense - if they spent a lot of time making sure nothing else was broken, I don't mind paying for a bit of added confidence. Still, testing an alternator is very very easy, and free at Auto Zone - but reviewing disable links might be tricky?? However I immediately had issues with the power flickering (radio and lights cutting in and out), and a couple days later my car stalled out/died twice while driving, before it completely stopped running altogether, so I got it towed to my house. I Ubered to work the rest of the week, and that weekend I took off the alternator myself, and had it tested at AutoZone (for free). The alternator failed the test immediately, which was killing the battery - so I replaced both of them. Of course, I knew that testing/replacing the alternator wasn't going to fix the underlying issue - it had to be a fuseable link. However, Wildt had told me when I discussed the testing they performed that I was lucky that my vehicle didn't have fuseable links?? I then had my car towed to Smith Imports to get the links tested/repaired vehicle). Smith Imports tested the all of the car's electric components/fuseable links, and easily found the one that was completely shot, and they charged me about $100 dollars more than what Wildt brothers originally did - BUT this included diagnostics, labor, AND parts - and they actually fixed the problem. Having the car towed twice, Ubering to work, and then Smith's repair cost - it would have been nice to have just gotten it right the first time at Wildt - but I'm not even sure Wildt tested anything at all - besides replacing that single cheap fuse... When I saw the car immediately having issues after I got it from Wildt, I just didn't trust taking it back. I've had 'okay' experiences with Wildt before, but not this time - basically felt ripped off. Overall, disappointed with the electrical diagnostics done.

We have gone to them for the past four years. They have been extremely honest and helpful. They have always been quick to evaluate our car and quick to repair our car. They have been the best mechanics I have ever done business with, and I cannot recommend them enough.

These guys were professional from start to finish. They fixed my car in less than 24 hours and Butch finished the job for $100 less than the quoted price. I'll definitely be a regular customer.

I have never had this company do any work on my vehicle personally so I'm just going off the reviews I've read and from the phone conversation I had with one of the employees when I called to inquire about a diagnostic test for my car. The guy I spoke with on the phone wasn't too friendly and didn't seem to care if he got my business or not. I also read another review from a guy who had taken his vehicle into have a diagnostic test done at this shop and was still charged the $70 even though their machine wasn't able tell him what was wrong with his vehicle. I do believe if I ran a business and my customer came in looking for an answer to a question, they would not be charged unless I could give them an answer, that seems fair enough. Both reasons being said, I decided not to take my vehicle to this shop.
