What clients say about Carl's Auto Care & Towing in Elizabethtown (KY)
Towed my vehicle after it broke down. After looking at it they wanted $900 + labor for a junkyard part installed, or $2000 + labor for a new part. I asked if I could source a remanufactured part and pay them to install it. They said it would be no problem, labor would be around $1500. Part was shipped to them 2 days later. After 2 weeks I stopped in to see when they might get to it and physically verified the part was there, still in the box on the floor; I was told they would try next week. 2 weeks later I called and inquired, and was told they were having issues with employees showing up, it was on the schedule for the next week. The end of the next week, now a month later, I called and was told they would try for next week. I mentioned I was trying to plan on when I would need my wife to drive me there to get it, and get had been telling me they would try to get to it next week each time. Person on the phone then got very angry, blamed the delay on not having the part. I replied that I had stopped in a month ago and he showed me the part that arrived. He said he was doing the best he could, and I said I try to keep that in mind, but I had been without a car for over month. He the screamed to call AAA and get my car out of there, he wasn't going to work on it. He then hung up. I had the car picked up, took to a nearby shop, and they installed the part 2 days later for $575.00 total. STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS.
SUCH great service! They fixed my car after my chevy dealership left it almost undrivable and ive taken my car back to them for everything since - its hard to find good people to trust when you know so little about cars. Everyone is always super sweet and helpful to me and their prices have always been very reasonable! Thank you all!! ❤️
I asked them the fix my undercarriage cover of my car and it’s ripped out, I asked them to fix my check engine lights specifically the one where it disables my passenger airbag. I also asked them to fix my lights on my car they didn’t fix that. What they did instead was put coolant in my car.
Excellent customer service!! I came through the area and needed a quick repair and they were on the ball with everything. Can’t say enough about everyone at Carl’s. Would get my business every-time!
They're great. Wife broke down in the middle of the road. They got her off the road, towed the van, and diagnosised it very quickly. Fair price and honest.
My truck broke down in the fast lane of WKH they were there very quick towed me back to their shop and had my truck running in a short time. Good place to do business.
DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY . We paid for an inspection of a used car we were considering purchasing. Carl's Auto said they found nothing wrong with the car. After purchase, Showtime Auto and Louisville Honda, inspected and found essential repairs needed, among them a vtc actuator, and transmission leak from axle shaft, $1700. The car is parked. I informed Billy at Carl's that our family paid for Carl's Auto Care to inspect , drive , and inform us. Billy says they only do A MINIMUM INSPECTION. I asked for a refund of $40, and he refused.
Got me in right away and fixed our problem (recharged the air-conditioner). Checked the compressor and for leaks. In and out in a half hour right before they closed. Price was VERY fair.
We were on the road and had a tire problem. We stopped by and Mike helped us out. He answered the phone and told us to come by. He looked at it immediately and pulled it in the shop and identified that the lugs on a tire were loose. He fixed it and didn’t charge us. He was a life saver…literally!
The towing company's reply to my review is concerning. You see, I would have known if my muffler was off my car before it was towed, by the sound my car made while driving. Without the muffler in place, my car would have been incredibly loud. But, it was not loud at all. So I know that prior to being towed by Carl's THE MUFFLER WAS DEFINITELY ON MY CAR. THEN it was towed and the very next time I started my car, which was AT THE TOW LOT, my car was IMMEDIATELY incredibly loud. I figure someone working at a towing company ought to know the functionality of mufflers and be honest enough to not imply their customer is wrong, mistaken, or lying. The muffler was clearly dislodged during the time my car was being towed. The company's denial of this fact is concerning, especially in light of the obviously insincere apology for my negative experience. Good customer service would be to offer a remedy, not a denial.
Original Review:
When I called for information, from the moment he first answered the phone, the man I spoke with was rude and spoke in a tone that suggested he sincerely hated to speak to me at all. When my friend went and got his car, it turned out they had torn the muffle nearly off the car when towing it.
The reason for the one star rating is that they denied causing the damage!
The vehicle was towed after dark; it was not ever off of the pavement (so nothing should have dragged against the muffler) and the damage was obviously caused from the tow hook and rollback. The damage was immediately perceptible (due to the loud exhaust and the muffler dragging on the pavement) but the owner or manager just said, "Not my guys," like they could not have possibly made a mistake while towing a car! Like a vehicle owner would believe that their muffler was already like that, or that it somehow just came most of the way off the car, on its own, and had nothing at all to do with the fact that the car had just been towed.
I don't appreciate rudeness, and I abhor dishonesty and not accepting responsibility. The owner of the car is fully out the cost of the tow and storage fee PLUS the cost of fixing the damages caused during the tow. Meanwhile staff couldn't care less, and lied about causing the damage at all. So, I definitely do NOT recommend Carl's Auto Care & Towing!
Carl's has been one of the main go-to places in Hardin County for many years. They've serviced my vehicles for more than 30 years without issue. They're a great family owned and operated local business by folks who are from the area.
Took my daughters car in for repairs a 2009 Ford focus. They were very honest about the findings and the charges were reasonable. I will be using Carl’s for all my vehicle concerns.
I love Carl's Auto Care and Towing. Their prices are great. I don't have a lot of time, but they always try to squeeze me in, even if they are always busy. They are experts in their field and always professional. I trust these people with all my family's cars.
Can’t speak highly enough of the guys here. Blew a fuel line after hours yesterday, gave them a call first thing this morning and within 30 minutes a heavy wrecker was hooking to my semi to get me to a shop. Fast, friendly service. Delivered the service they promised, with the price I was quoted over the phone.
I used them for impounds for my commercial property, I called yesterday and was given a number to call. I was told they'd call me back in 30 minutes, no call, tried to call back and went straight to voicemail. called back today and was told they won't send drivers out on Sundays for impounds, I can understand this but it could've been communicated better and saved us both the hassle. no need to be rude and be nasty about it, will not use again for anything.
We had trouble on a trip from Texas to West Virginia... rear axel bearings went at. Mike was fast to ide tiny the problem, order the parts and get us back k.on the road in about 4 hours. Very nice people. Waiting room was comfortable too. We are very greatfull for their shop.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. I had been recommended this auto care place by coworkers of mine and decided to use them when my car wouldn't start and needed to be towed. The car was picked up and I told them about the various issues going on with the car (flickering lights in the dash, volume on radio going down when braking, check engine light recently turned on) and was told they would look at it. I was called back the following day and told it was just needed a battery charge (battery is a year old). I asked about the other issues and was told "well that's another can of worms", with no inclination of even trying to fix the car. Went to pick up the car today (8/15) and they had locked the car and lost the key. They searched for 5 minutes and said "sorry". Didn't offer to pay for a new key, replace the key or any sort of discount for losing my key. Luckily, I do have a spare but had to drive an extra hour all together to go home and get the other key. This place has completely lost my business and I will most definitely never recommend it either.
We were traveling from Wisconsin to Nashville and had a loud noise in the back of the vehicle and got recommended from a different shop to try Carls! So glad we took that recommendation! They got us in right away and found out what it was in 1 minute, the lug nuts were loose and they tightened it up and we were off within 5 minutes. Didn’t even want to charge us. Highly recommend! Such great people who work here.☺️
We we're traveling home on April 6th from Tennessee to Michigan when our van dropped a drive shift. They had our vehicle repaired and back on the road within 2 hours. Very pleasant experienceed, polite and very reasonably priced. Many, many thanks! We would definitely recommend to anyone in the area!
On the way home to Nashville, I broke down in Elizabethtown, but had the very good fortune to get a tow from Carl's Auto Care & Towing. The team at Carl's could not have been more helpful, professional, or understanding. Joe, the truck driver, got me safely to a hotel, then even returned to the shop to meet me when I realized I had left a valuable in the car. Mike was so patient and friendly, and took countless calls from me as I worked to coordinate with AAA to get the car towed back to Nashville. The front office and shop are immaculate, and you can tell these folks take great pride in the work they do and the fine business they operate.
We were on the side of the parkway for many hours last night. Called around to find someone to help us. These guys came and saved us! After 28 hours of no sleep the last thing I needed was a busted wheel bearing in the middle of no where. I told them where I was with very vague details because I didn’t know myself. And they came and picked us up faster than anyone else ever thought of. We got to their shop and they immediately went to work on our hummer! Within 30 minutes we were fixed up and back on the road! I grew up in shops because my daddy was a mechanic. This place was our saving grace and we so thankful!! The guys were super sweet and helpful!
If you need help and want it done right and fast, call these guys!!
My boat trailer broke down on Interstate 65 late evening, and they were there quickly to tow and solve my problem. They were able to get me back on the road first thing in the morning, and took great care of my boat trailer at a fair price based upon my needs. I would highly recommend!
My truck overheated on a Saturday morning of a holiday weekend. Many places were closed and I was able to get it to them late morning. They had it diagnosed (waterpump), repaired and back to me by the early afternoon and what I thought was a fair and reasonable price. Will definitely be back and would recommend them to others.
Absolutely would recommend this company. We were broke down on the expressway early evening on a Friday night, pickup, camper and two dogs.....We called and within less than an hour was towed and safe. The gentleman diagnosed, and fixed our truck by 8:30am on Saturday morning. Super nice and very professional. Thank you for making our little camping trip turn out to be a nice time.
I took my truck to Carl’s, fully expecting to spend well over 1000 dollars on a turbo. A few hours later, I picked up my truck running as good as new for 48 bucks. They could have easily put a turbo on it and charged me thousands, but they didn’t. If your looking for honest folks who just want to do what’s right, this is the place to go! Restored my faith in people!
I needed a tow to and from a short distance and there was no wait. The driver worked hard on helping us bring my car home until we can get it repaired. They were timely, professional and went the extra mile for a good price. Will use them again.
BLUF: Excellent service quality, fair price, and next day turn around on a major repair for a 11' Honda Odyssey with towing.
Over the labor day weekend I noticed my van was a bit low on power steering fluid. I topped it off appropriately and went about refilling with the recommended P.S. fluid. I worked the wheel to remove air bubbles from the system and just at that moment a seal blew out in the rack area (drivers side) of the rack and pinion. I was able to diagnose it correctly myself and opted not to try and tackle this one myself in the driveway in the oppressive September heat. Carl's crew towed the van to their shop on a Tuesday at 0930 and I was driving it home the next day after I got off work. I believe they had it ready even a couple hours sooner and they didn't have the part on hand that first day either. I know the cost of the replacement part and the total they gave me seemed more than fair for towing, installation labor, and an alignment on-top of that. The staff was very friendly and kind and were willing to address any questions I had. Again, I'm very happy with the quality and speed of service they provided us to get our families mommy-mobile back up and serving the family as it should. I've already recommended them to personal friends. Now I hope you can take my word in recommending them to you. Thanks Carl and crew!
This place is fantastic, Mike and David are the best. They really helped me out. Had a slight accident with a guard rail on a recent trip. They came out and looked at my truck, figured I was okay to follow them to the shop. They got the part I needed within 15 or 20 minutes and had me fixed and out the door in under an hour. These gentlemen are the best and if I ever need anything next time in E-town I will definitely call them . Great big THANK YOU guys.😁😁😁
I work third shift and have a difficult time scheduling repairs. Carl's got my 1996 Tahoe in on Saturday morning, diagnosed the problem and replaced the U-Joint quickly. They were fast efficient and friendly. The cost was on the lower side of average. I would not hesitate to go back and highly recommend this shop. Thanks for being so good at what you do!
