Beware! Had really good experience at first but now the other owner not Joe has been taking in the metal. He changes the prices of my valuable stuff like brass, wire and copper motors to things of less value. Even my 3ft clean has been marked as tin shred a few times now including today. Need to watch him every time I go in there and get him I look at the receipt when I’m leaving and something is messed up. Not cool very shady beware!! Won’t take appliances anymore but wants the copper motors. Will tell you they are not copper give you $1 for a $8 motor call it an aluminum motor when you can see the copper coils plain as day Beware!
Joe was very friendly, knowledgeable and kind. I needed a body control module for a 2007 Caravan and 2 hours away, this is the closest place I could find one. Instead of waiting for it to be shipped, I decided it would be a nice drive and I got to pick it up right away. Reasonable prices, I paid $50 for it. I definitely recommend this place. The only caution I would add is if you have bad brakes, be extra careful driving there as they are located in a place that requires driving down a long, steep, very bumpy driveway/road. Also, the map was a bit confusing so I ended up driving in a big circle to get to it. That is nothing bad on them though, Dubuque just has really weird roads around the area. ???
I have went to key city for several years. Or they have come to wherever they had to and picked up vehicles for me. I'm not 100% sure, though I'm 98.5% sure that handsdown Jo is probably the most down to earth & honest man in the business. In fact I will go one step more and say in any business. Thanks Jo and the Staff at key city. You guys rock
Key City Recycling was instrumental in helping us recycle old bikes and parts that were beyond their lifecycle and would otherwise be tossed into a landfill. Thanks for your help!
I was hit by a semi in dubuque and wound upjunking my ford E250. Since I had a broken knee I had to do it by phone. Joe at Key City took a few things out and is holding them for me. He gave me a very good price, was quick picking it up so I had no storage costs to pay.
He was friendly, professional, and helpful throughout the process. I haven't met Joe yet since my knee has a while to go before I can walk around but look forward to it.

Our truck blew her head gasket this week, she just couldn't take 2020 any longer!! And NO, she didn't die from Covid 19, LOL!!!!! So, we met with JOE, and he agreed to take her out to pasture to rest! Joe was our Hero, he's a Rock Star to me!!
Took my catalytic converter here. I was low balled by one of the employees, he offered me 20 dollars for it. I passed and left cause I know they worth more than 20 dollars. I went back couple days later and found a different employee but this guy offered me 45 dollars. so you see kids do your research before dealing with this place. One of them a real crook.
I was very impressed with the service I received. They helped us unload our truck and gave us more than what we expected for our scrap items. We will definitely be back !!
I had the worst experience at this place. Not only is the location not clearly marked & very difficult to find, but when we arrived the owner/manager Jim was busy. The man in the office (who did not give his name) had no idea how long it would be before he was available, and claimed he had no idea how anything worked so he was unable to help us. We waited as other customers began to arrive and wait inside as well. A group of teenagers, two boys & one girl, was among them. The man at the desk proceeded to excuse this long wait time stating that they're "short handed" and "need workers." He then began to go on to describe how he would "prefer a prettyyoung lady." A few moments later, addressing myself & the teenage girl in the room, he said "Well I didn't hear any of you volunteer to work. What about you, young lady? You could work here and we could stare at you all day." He paused for a moment, then laughed and said "No, your mom wouldn't let you work here." I was absolutely disgusted. Terrible service, hard to find, and a creepy & perverted man hitting on an underage girl to boot. I left angry, uncomfortable, and determined to let everyone know just how awful my experience at Key City Recycling was.
I junked my car out to Key City Recycling the other day and received excellent customer service along with great pricing. I was in and out of there quick, with a nice check in hand. I was very pleased and will definitely be a returning customer!
Stopped in today to drop off some scrap copper and had prompt service with no hassel. I was in and out within 10 minutes and a check printed on the spot for the value of the copper. Great service and will go back again when I have more scarp metal to drop off.
