What clients say about The Salvation Army Family Store & Donation Center in Mundelein (IL)

A very clean thrift store that is usually fairly busy even during the daytime. A strong selection of women's clothes men's a little bit smaller book selection is generally not great and there's very low turnover. A great salvation army that has a great location that serves a lot of the surrounding area

Black man cashier was rude and giving attitude to me. Kinda ruined my mood while finishing and finding good decent things. Will not be coming back.

Not a bad shop, lots of selection. A little disorganized in areas. Probably not enough staff to keep up with messy customers. It was busy when I went in.

They helped retrieve some of my friends stuff when I donated his clothes on accident. Recently (past year) the racks seem sparse, but man I've found some good stuff here over the years

The store is not organized, dirty, most large items do not have prices, cashier literally has to call/txt the manager to get a price, sadly the price varies for different shoppers :(

Wouldn't take a perfectly good dining table because of a "scratch". It's not a scratch. It's unpolished wood where the legs attach. Also I have seen the furniture sold inside, more than half of it is broken or falling apart. A dining table with some minor wear and tear would look brand new in comparison. Please get it together. Your primary consumer base should NOT be overly wealthy people looking for a "thrifty" experience.

The gentleman receiving donations didn’t say a word to me or offer help while I struggled carrying items. Instead, the first thing he said was, “What’s in the bag?” When he saw some of the items, he told me they don’t accept them. I said I’d throw them in the garbage, and he replied, “No, you can’t throw them here!” They really need to hire people with more patience and kindness. I will not be donating here again.

Very little to choose from and most of it is useless garbage. Then they have the nerve to price a puzzle at 16 BUCKS! This is a thrift store? What a joke. Don’t waste your time here.

75 dollars for a old laptop is ridiculous, also the shoe section had a lot of shoes on the floor.

I tried to donate here. The gentleman that was receiving donations didn’t even say a word to me, he just ripped my bag open and started throwing my stuff on the ground. Which is super disrespectful. He then held up a bag and I told him what was in it and he threw it next to my feet. In all honesty I was so shocked I couldn’t even speak. I started picking up my items off the ground and took them to goodwill instead. I donate here because over 90 percent of the money they make actually goes to very good causes. I will be donating to a different location from now on. What a shame.

I love this Salvation Army, and the friendly staff is the best. They are always helpful and go beyond the call of duty. I lost my debit cards in the store last week and the store manager Ruby ( who is truly a gem) found them and returned them to me! What a blessing!!! She’s the best! I tell evertone to shop this store ALWAYS! Thanks, Angela A

I’ve gone here for years, since I was in middle school, and i’ve always been able to find some great stuff. Unfortunately a lot of the items nowadays are shein and polyester, but if you check frequently you can find some goodies + the fitting rooms are available! I highly appreciate the ladies that work there as some of the customers have no home training and leave the store an absolute wreck!!!! (like leaving clothes on the floor and getting them all dirty with dust because of it! put it back on the rack if you drop something!!!) The prices have slightly increased over the last two years but that’s to be expected as inflation is hitting everything. Otherwise, I will continue to come here and the color tags with discounts are my favorite! I’ve also found some of my favorite clothes from here!

This place is trashed. Full carts are all over the store. Stuff all over the floor. Nothing is organized and it’s all over prices. Stained Nike sweatshirts for $9.99 you must be joking

The store is not organized. There is a lot of good staff but it’s impossible to find because of the way they organize the store.

I tried to donate good furniture. I would give them a zero! They failed to inform donors upfront that their acceptance criteria are based on someone's personal opinion. Their website states that damaged furniture won't be accepted, but that's misleading. Instead, they cherry-pick items, which is disrespectful. I spent an entire day moving heavy furniture to the garage, only for them to arrive and select just a couple of items. I'm extremely disappointed in their process and lack of transparency."

Nothing is organized by size which is like searching for a needle in a haystack. I gave it two stars because the "knock knacks and stuff" section is actually pretty decent.

Whom do you sell leather sofa for $25 to??? Cast iron and real stone top MCM table for $20??? Not fishy at all! Considering all furniture prices are pretty consistent 3digit numbers. I recommend donating to sparrows nest, where your donations are not being misappropriated and moneys go to homeless and battered women and children's shelters, not to enrich some middlemen/management at SA.

The Salvation Army store is an exceptional place that stands out for its cleanliness and organization. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that the staff takes pride in maintaining a spotless and welcoming environment. The aisles are neat, making it easy to browse the wide variety of items on offer, and everything is thoughtfully arranged. Whether you’re looking for clothing, furniture, or home goods, everything is displayed in a way that makes shopping a breeze. Another highlight is the size of the store—it’s impressively spacious, allowing for a comfortable shopping experience. Unlike many thrift stores that feel cramped, this location provides plenty of room to explore without feeling overwhelmed. The selection is vast, catering to different tastes and needs, and it’s clear that great care has gone into curating the inventory. It’s the perfect place to hunt for treasures while supporting a great cause. The staff truly make the experience even better. They are experienced, friendly, and eager to help with any questions or assistance you might need. Their professionalism shines through, and they ensure the store operates smoothly even during busy times. It’s evident that they are passionate about their work and the mission of The Salvation Army. Overall, this location is a fantastic place to shop, offering quality items, excellent customer service, and a positive atmosphere.

The Mundelein stores seems to be falling apart. It used to be organized with fair pricing. For the last month it’s been a wreck….items strewn about everywhere and aisles blocked with racks. They also have 6 shopping carts in one area filled with items not shelved. It blocks a large aisle. Inventory is way down and prices are way up. Also all new staff. I don’t know what the problem it but I won’t be going back when a very organized Goodwill store is just down the street.

Eh, I wish this place was nicer. Wide selection of items, but a lot of items here can be ratty. Feels like shopping at a dump. The prices should be cheaper. To put things into perspective, they have a Halloween bucket with a crack in the bottom for $2. The Dollar General next door has the same bucket for $1. They have 4 candle sticks bundled together for $4? A rough-looking basketball that won't dribble for $4? Overpriced. And there's always a long line too because they are understaffed. Once in a while I'll find a good deal on an item that looks new, but those are rare.

It’s organized enough that looking through things wasn’t a hassle which is nice. Saturdays are supposed to be 75% off the color of the week and they didn’t honor that. The fitting rooms are pretty bad too. They had no hooks. An inexpensive and dusty mirror on the floor. Found a few things I liked, but I won’t be going back or recommending it.

First they don’t have enough staff to help. First, I walked around for 20-30 min and I saw 2 other people not one asked if they can help me find anything! Second, my jaw dropped when I saw men’s underwear! Who in their right mind would sell used underwear??? ??♂️??♂️??♂️ I guess times are that hard that someone would need to buy underwear from a thrift store! I am 40 years old I always shop thrifty first, but all under garments I pay retail!

I love this store. Will drive 20 miles to go there. Everything you can imagine in the store and the prices are better than any other thrift store I've been to. Bought an off-white leather recliner in very good condition for $15.00. Staff is very kind and helpful. I can't wait to take a little day trip there. In fact, I'm buying some things to take to relatives in Ohio.

They have great deals and wonderful items. I've found wonderful deals and items I will cherish and incorporate into my household for years to come. However they are way OVERPRICED on most items. I can pay less at Walmart or Ross or Menards or even Dollar Tree, for a Lot of items. This is HORRIBLE!!!! Then to top it off they close at 6pm. This makes it really hard for working individuals who work long shifts and/or get off late and would like to shop. PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR PRICING STRUCTURE SALVATION ARMY!!!

I went in to look for men's short sleeve button down shirts and polo shirts. The selection was great and the prices were awesome, as usual. Lines were extremely short. I guess going in on a Monday just before they closed has its benefits.

This was my first time in this Salvation Army over on 83rd and 60. I got some items I got to the register there was one item that did not have a price on it. she said it would have to go in the back and they would have to get a price I asked her how long it would be. She said tomorrow. I’ve been to other Salvation Army‘s something did not have a price on that they would contact the manager and they would find a price for me. Then I asked to speak to a manager. The lady at the register said to walk to the back and meet the manager. I’ve never heard of that one before. I thought customer service managers are supposed to come to you. So I walked out of the store and I’ll never go back to that store again. When I got in my car. I tried calling and no one would answer the phone. I called back 3 or 4 times...

massive selection and reasonable prices. they carry jackets (unlike Goodwill). I’ve found name brand items in great condition, but you have to be patient and thorough. I think the changing rooms are currently closed due to covid.

This is one of the most cleanest Salvation Armies I have been in. It has a really great selection of gently used items. I found some great deals here.
