The staff is professional, friendly, and efficient. Highly recommend this location for any moving or storage needs!

Went for propane refill and they refused due to lack staff but two of the associates were on their phones and there were no other clients. They don't care about their customers.

The equipment I had reserved was not available when I arrived to pick it up. Even though I made the reservation two or three weeks ago. When they did fix me up with 1/2 of my reserved equipment, it was filthy.

I think the workers work very hard, and they should have more box piles to chose from when trying to take naps!!! The two who were there when I picked up my truck were very nice and helpful, give them a raise!

I cannot think of any time I have had better customer service than my recent emergency visit to U-Haul DesPlaines. My family and I were heading out of town on a camping trip when my trailer wire harness shorted out due to a loose ground connection, melting and destroying the wiring harness. I didn't know the extent of the damage and couldn't get a new harness anytime soon, so called many places trying to find a tech to look at the damage and see what was needed to be replaced. Finally after heading to U-Haul DesPlaines who had the harnesses I needed, Ilene put my SUV on a lift and diagnosed the issue, checked everything else up the line methodically and replaced everything. I will never go anywhere else for any future trailer hitch, harness, moving truck etc. etc. etc. needs and would recommend her business 100% to anyone needing the same!

I am always moving and have been using U-haul for my moving needs every-time! The reservation process is very easy to navigate and reserve online/app and I like how the option is given to either finish the required documents in person upon arrive or complete everything online/app. Compared to other places I have rented from U-haul is the most affordable option with easy changes to make for any reservation LAST MINUTE! I originally rented a van but decided I might need more space for my move and the customer service person at the front desk quickly and effortlessly made the changes I wanted without any hassle. He took his time to answer all of our questions and even offered to pull up the truck for us. All the staff at the front desk are VERY friendly and professional. I would DEFINITELY recommend U-haul to anyone especially with my experience with other similar businesses.

I rented a Ubox, and I had a great experience. Ilene was really kind and helpful with my order. The guys in the pickup/dropoff yard were friendly and helpful as well. The least stressful part of my move. Thank you for making everything work smoothly.

Ilene is amazing! My husband and I picked up 2 U-Boxes from this location. She helped set us up with a trailer hitch and also helped us hook up the trailer. She went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience!

I have rented from this location 3 times in the last month and every experience was perfectly fine. No complaints here. All of the workers were super helpful.

Beyond frustrated at this location. Worked with the front desk for over an hour to be told “we don’t have the truck here, we have trucks at our other lot”, just for the trucks they had there to be buried behind other trucks. The desk person was alone so she couldn’t move the other trucks, and wasn’t able to rent me anything on the lot. Manager wouldn’t answer their phone, so I waited there for an hour, for nothing. I will never come here again, and you shouldn’t either.

First off, good luck getting through in the phone. The phones are never answered, and if you do get through you’re put on hold for 5 minute and forgotten about. I had a 26 foot, one way rental I made a reservation for at this Des Plaines location and the day before pick up I was told I had to get it from the Loop in downtown Chicago. A few days later I needed a one way trailer rental from the same location. The same issues happened with the phones, I called 10 times and was put on hold twice and then hung up on. I asked for the manager and when I reiterated that I needed a one way trailer rental I was told that no U-Haul rents open trailers one way. (I found out at a different location this was false. And on the U-Haul website you can also make one way open trailer rentals….) Overall, horrible customer service and misinformation gets this place a one start review. Nothing about dealing with them was easy.

I've been renting uhauls from this location for years. Never met such unprofessional team as it is right now. Returned truck 3hrs before they were closing no one checked the truck till the next day and they've charged me for the 5 gallons of fuel while I did refuel as always just before returning it! Now no one is responding to the calls. Bunch of lazy people. They just simply don't care.

Just go to another location for your own sake. Rude manager who took my card in a rush & tacked on the insurance package without even asking. Forgot to close out my rental after a return & when contacting customer service to take care of it they extended my rental instead. Led to a double charge which luckily I was able to chargeback.

Extremely unprofessional location. Lazy and unprofessional employees that frequently sneak off to go smoke weed. I had a mobile reservation pick-up and was having trouble with the app not letting me upload photos (truck was parked rammed into another truck with damage to bumper). I asked the employees for assistance in getting photos of the existing damage, and they ignored me and pretended I didn’t even exist. Shocking behavior. Of course, the truck also didn’t have the utility dolly I paid for. Since the employees were too lazy to care to do their job, I had to go buy a dolly from Menards. Go to another location or another company if you want better service.

recently had an unfortunate experience at U Haul , at Mount Prospect Road where I was overcharged for a gas refill of a truck I had rented the same day only to be denied a refund when I brought it to their attention. Despite providing evidence that the tank was already replenished, the staff refused to acknowledge their mistake or provide a refund. They said the Manger Ilene Mertes will call during the day. After no call was received , called again and they said Manager was too busy to attend customers or return the the staff remained obstinate and refused to provide a refund, but the lack of accountability and customer service exhibited by the staff further compounded my dissatisfaction. It is disconcerting to encounter such blatant disregard for customer satisfaction and integrity in a service-oriented industry. I urge the management to reevaluate their policies and train their staff to handle such situations with professionalism and fairness. As a customer, I expect transparency and honesty, qualities that were sorely lacking in this instance. I hope that my feedback serves as a catalyst for positive change within the establishment.

Horrible experience all trucks are old and drive bad!!! I had rented a vehicle recently after driving the truck for a mile I immediately turned around the truck had over 165,000 and the suspension made it feel like the trucks wheels where going to fall off. This is not my first uhaul either. The employees let me know that all the 15 inch trucks are similar and "unfortunately they are all old bro." I took the truck and made sure to keep it under 50 mph. After I returned the vehicle I had the same amount of gas as it previous had just under a full tank today I get a bill that another 4 gallons needed to be put in. It put 34 dollars in after driving 50 miles. I have a video to prove the gas milage and overall fear and confusion I had. I would not recommend this location or uhaul in general after this.

I went here for the first time and had a hitch installed on my Honda CRV touring and they did an amazing job. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who is installing hitches to their vehicles! I’m truly impressed! Thanks to the workers who installed it!!!

One of the worst experiences of my life!!!!! I walked in to ask few questions about the storage units! The manager/supervisor was the rudest associate I ever dealt with my entire life!!!! Extremely impolite, very racist, and horribly LOUD!!!! Wouldn’t even let me ask my question, interrupted me in every question while shouting so loudly that everyone in the store could hear. And when I mentioned the website he literally said I don’t care, The website can say whatever it says!!!! When I asked about how clean the facilities are, he said flawless, when I asked about bugs, specifically “Bed-Bugs”, he said get the insurance to protect your self and file a claim with them!!!!!!! This was the treatment I got for being a “brown customer”, while the “white customer” was getting the at-most respect, and being called Sir throughout the conversation!!! And finally when I started discussing the prices, he said to me: “if you don’t like the prices here, maybe you should move out from Chicago” …….. I will never step foot here ever again!!! Disgraceful company with no value for the customer what so ever!!!!!

Absolutely horrible. I was given a one way from des plaines to naperville. The woman helping not only took down my phone number incorrectly (after repeating it twice), but then assigned my drop off store incorrectly. Thus, after 2 hours on hold with customer service whom transfered me 4 times, I ended up bringing it to my closest uhaul (Aurora) and they were fantastic! I would never recommend this location, drive an extra 20 minutes if you have to. They are an absolute train wreck.

Parking here can be a challenge. It is a very busy/packed lot. The employee that checked-me was awesome and moved their car for me to park mine in their spot while I used the 10' U-Haul I rented for a couple hours. Check-in after I used the truck was easy, took less than 30 seconds. An employee was out on the lot to meet me before I put the truck in park (just about an hour before closing). Equipment was properly checked-in and my online rate was honored.

OK so I went to drop off this U-Haul Tuesday and since it was down the street from my job, I Waited on the side to not block the entrance while I call my ride. Few minutes later, I jump in the return line and the employees inside literally just stared at me and I’m looking at the sign that says wait here because I had no internet cell service over there for some reason to do the return myself… so, after waiting there for 10 minutes, I parked the truck on the side, put the key on the desk, and the employees still did not say a word not even the one walking in as I came out I don’t understand and maybe it’s because of the color of my skin, but there’s no reason that you should not even speak to a customer to ask them if they need anything or if they were good. I would never return to this U-Haul. I would actually never use U-Haul again because of how much gas it actually took to fill those little things up. Which is crazy because I used to use it for every move. That thing was such a guzzler. It was disgusting but more so the employees really disgusted me U-Haul needs to not hire millennials because they never want to work. And honestly Home Depot has a little rental truck that is cheaper, so I really don’t even have a reason to ever return back. I’m surprised covid didn’t take them out. Can someone please find us a replacement like Netflix did to Blockbuster?

I've been to this U-Haul out of convenience many times and it is the worst U-Haul I have ever been to. I tried to give it a second chance and third chance and a fourth chance and I can no longer go back. I am a quadriplegic in a wheelchair and desperately needed the trailer to transport my wheelchair only to find they cancelled my reservation. These people are extremely rude and they have absolutely horrible customer service. Go to a different U-Haul as many others have much better customer service and friendliness and won't screw you over.

Made a reservation and paid 3 weeks in advance to get a hitch installed.. showed up day of install to be told they don’t have the hitch.. if I could give them - stars I would. Had great experiences with U-Haul usually with everything else but all they had to do was give us a call a few days before so we could have made other accommodations. I WOULD suggest Master Hitch in palatine. They got me installed and was super professional 2 days later. Slightly more expensive but a much better quality hitch and great communication. Don’t bother getting installed here

Check the equipment thoroughly because the chances of you being break down are high. I rented a truck with a rusted hand break. Unfortunately, me being safe I applied the hand brake it got stuck. It took 2 hours for them to come and fix it. They overcharged me on my final payment which I had to go to their uhal office and dispute.

I used self pick up. It was really easy and fast. Car was clean enough and I haven't gotten any problem during the trip and drop off time. They are using technology which is faster and easier. You can also park your car over there and it's free✔ it's close to gas station so after your trip you can put the gas easily.
