ZERO STARS — Imperial Beach Pet Hospital & Urgent Care is anything BUT urgent. I showed up on Sunday at 3 PM, exhausted, in pain, and desperate for help — not for myself, but for my service dog, who I depend on daily. I told the receptionist I had major surgery 2 days earlier and had just been discharged from the hospital. While I was gone, my dog’s health rapidly deteriorated — he came in covered in fleas, scratching himself raw, hundreds of open sores, and now he was even limping and refusing to use one leg, even though his paw seemed fine. (Neurological?) We are staying at a house sit with an overgrown tropical yard and raccoons — raccoon fleas are NOT routine; they can transmit serious parasites and disease and cause neurological issues and rapid decline. In a weeks time, I have seen a rapid decline! I made it VERY clear that his symptoms were getting worse by the hour and that I could barely stand, let alone drive, but I dragged myself there because this business advertises itself as “Hospital & Urgent Care — Open 7 Days a Week.” They took his age, weight, and name… then left me sitting there while my dog trembled beside me. Fifteen minutes later she walked back, disappeared again, then finally came out to tell me the best they could do was BOOK AN APPOINTMENT FOR TUESDAY. TUESDAY. Two days later. After I explained that I was barely able to leave bed, that his condition was worsening, and that he is a working service animal who supports my disability. This is not urgent care — it’s a regular vet office hiding behind a deceptive title, and based on my experience, they have no empathy, no urgency, and no appropriate triage standards. And let’s talk liability: ? Advertising URGENT CARE implies the availability of immediate medical response, triage protocols, and prioritization of deteriorating cases. ? If they do not actually provide urgent services, then their signage, marketing claims, and representations to the public are misleading at best and consumer deception at worst. ? Turning away an actively declining animal — especially a service animal — after claiming to be an urgent facility could easily result in preventable suffering, worsening injury, complications, and financial and emotional damages. ? Businesses that represent themselves as urgent care facilities assume responsibility to triage and treat — or at minimum, stabilize — emergencies. They failed to do any of that. Had my dog declined further, the consequences — including pain, disability progression, emergency hospitalization costs, or long-term impairment — would fall squarely on a facility that refused to act despite clear notice and visible distress. Why advertise yourself as “Hospital & Urgent Care, open 7 days a week” if you’re just going to shuffle sick animals into future appointments like a routine clinic? That is consumer deception, period. People bring their animals here believing they will get urgent help — that trust matters, and this place violates it. We were both clearly in distress — and they simply did not care. If you actually need urgent help, go ANYWHERE else. Imperial Beach Pet Hospital & Urgent Care is misleading, heartless, and dangerously unresponsive. My dog deserved better. Any animal does. Unacceptable, unprofessional, and potentially harmful.

We couldn’t be more thankful for the service we received for our family pet Aiko. The check in, exam, diagnosis, and discharge plan was professional and caring from start to finish. All cost associated with our visit were very fair and reasonable. Really don’t think you will find this type of great pet service, at their reasonable cost, anywhere else in San Diego County. Highly recommend Imperial Beach Hospital & Urgent Care for all of your pet’s needs.

I had an emergency with cat and it ended of having an infection in the uterus and needed emergency surgery. Dr. Bowman was amazing, she identified the problem almost immediately and Suri was in surgery in an hour! She came home with me the same night. I was so relieved that she got immediate and wonderful care. Then I found out they do basic veterinary care as well, I will definitely be bringing all my pets here from now on! And they give military discount. Amazing!

These are good people. They took care of my fur child but also, they didn’t judge or pressure anything. Come here. They won’t upsell you. They will just tell you what your pet needs.

It's great having an urgent care clinic nearby when our regular vet office is closed. This is also a great general vet office. We had a good experience with every staff member. Dr. Boman and Amanda were wonderful providing urgent care to my anxious old dog Frank, who needed sedation for a thorough eye exam. I really appreciate their considerate and professional treatment of the people as well as their pets.

I cannot speak highly enough of this clinic! Dr. Mondares and her staff saved my cat’s life. My cat came in for weight loss and vomiting. At first we thought my cat may have ate something and it got stuck in her belly. We ended up doing surgery on her and the way her belly was, it looked like cancer. When I was ready to make a rash decision, Dr. Mondares recommended taking a sample of the tissue to look at. I’m so glad she did!! It turns out it wasn’t cancer and instead a rare manifestation of a fungal infection! If Dr. Mondares hadn’t been so thorough, I probably would have let my kitty go. My cat is now thriving and back to her old self with some oral medications. I honestly feel that if I took my cat to any other veterinarian, she would no longer be with us. If you want to give your animals the best care, don’t take them anywhere but here!

Thank you to the amazing Dr. Boman and staff who helped our Chow Chow with his dislocated hip. Dr. Bowman was professional, patient and understanding with us during a stressful injury our pup sustained at the beach. We can’t say thank you enough, we feel lucky to have found this place in all of San Diego. Update: We also want to say thank you to Dr. Mondares for her care, love and patience with our pup, Bug. We will continue to make the drive from downtown to IB just for the quality of care. They truly treat you like family.

We just established vet care with these nice folks! Loved Dr. Mondares, Maureen, the other receptionist w/the piercing whose name I didn’t catch, and the techs! Great prices, hours, and availability! Highly recommended!

Words cannot describe how wonderful Dr. Bowman’s staff was today. Our dog suffered a leg injury at the beach. Not only were they able to see us same day, but actually multiple hours earlier than forecasted. The amount of stress that they alleviated from my family was unreal. Thank you again for taking care of our baby and patching him up! *tears of joy*

I truly cannot say enough good things about all of the staff here. Especially Dr Boman My sweet cat Gracie got very sick in May, and I took her to the nearest animal hospital/urgent care that I found online. I had just moved to IB, and had never been to any clinics out here. I am so so grateful that IB pet hospital was where I took her. Despite clearly being very busy at the time I initially brought Gracie in, Dr. Boman who had never met me or Gracie before, got us in right away and took time with not only Gracie but me as well. She was straight forward and extremely knowledgeable. From that first visit I knew I would absolutely trust this clinic and Dr Boman with my cat (and all of my pets) care. Since then, Gracie has endured a month of constant medical issues, hospitalizations, and blood transfusions. I saw and spoke to probably 10-15 vets over the past month, and Dr Boman was one that genuinely without a doubt listened to me, cared, and took the time to not only explain everything to me but also dig deeper into other potential reasons for Gracie’s sickness and not just tell me it’s likely cancer. I didn’t want to give up on Gracie, and Dr Boman and her internal medicine specialist didn’t either. I can’t thank Dr Boman and IB pet hospital enough for not giving up on Gracie. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for us!

My sister and I brought in our senior mini Schnauzer today for an urgent checkup. She had been violently shaking for the past couple of days and this was something we had never experienced with her. We don’t have pet insurance and have always defaulted to Tijuana for our pet care needs but this was an unexpected emergency so we had to remain in the US. We found IB Pet Hospital and I are very impressed with the level of care they provided. The nurses were very attentive and they did a thorough assessment of her vitals and give us great recommendations that did not break our bank. Overall we paid about 130$ for the visit, for them to clean out an open wound she had, and for her medication. They were very transparent about the price, the broke it all down and also allowed us to opt out of some of the things they recommended that just weren’t in our budget. We will be back, highly recommend. Thank you IB Pet Hospital!

I used to avoid IB Vet, even when I lived in IB. Now that Dr. Bowman is here, I actively drive from El Cajon to IB to come. She is the best vet I've ever had, quality care, and always gives it to me straight.

Dr. Boman was exceptional at evaluating my cat. She was super kind and also willing to fill out a form for my pet insurance. Would 100% recommend her and this clinic. The front desk staff were also super helpful.

Went in with sick 3 month old Labrador. Excellent service from staff. Dr. Mondares did an assessment and talked with us about the options. We agreed to surgery. Dr. Mondares determined the best option that reduced possible complications. We are very grateful! Additionally the Hospital obviously has been recently updated and has plenty of parking.

I’m not one who usually gives reviews, but in this case it was an absolute must! If it wasn’t for the IB Pet Hospital, our little girl, Cookie, a Rat Terrier would still be in pain that I could only imagine. We took our Cookie to our local vet because she was having a terrible case of bad breath and we were looking for answers. After doing some research online we thought it might be because of bad teeth, so we relayed our concerns to the vet and after they took a Quick Look inside her mouth, they said everything looked fine and to bring her back in 6 months for a check up. We took the vet for their word at first because they are suppose to be the professionals but after dealing with her breath and it not seeming to get any better, we decided to get a second opinion. We went to see Dr Boman at the IB Pet Hospital and when she did her visual exam on Cookie, she said nothing was obvious, but because of the smell she wanted to dig a little deeper and suggested we let her put Cookie to sleep so they could do an X-ray and make sure they weren’t missing anything. We gave the ok and the X-ray revealed a giant abscess under the gums and a total of 5 bad teeth that needed to be pulled! We were shocked but grateful she found the problem. Now Cookie is doing great! Her spirit is up and she’s running around again playing with her brother and sister and most of all we can tolerate her kisses again. Thank to to Dr Boman and her amazing staff for helping to get our girl back to her old self!

I have taken all my pets (8 total) to Dr. Boman since she took ownership. I have been more than happy with everything. The clinic always has an opening to see me within a day or two and they are affordable. I completely trust my pets to IB pet hospital and urgent care.

One of my cats was urine blocked I noticed on a Saturday night and the vet I went to was closed on Sunday. I asked the Nextdoor app for help in finding a good vet on Sunday. This vet came highly recommended so I left a message and followed up first thing in the morning. They were so helpful and got us in to see the doctor right when they opened and worked me into the schedule with very little wait. Both doctors here are just excellent veterinarians. After an ultrasound I found out he was totally blocked and had to stay for 3 days and a deposit of 2700 had to be paid . I left worried and relieved. I asked them to be super sweet to him and that they were. His surgery went great. They gave him a blanket and a box to make him more comfortable as he had never been away from home more than a day at the vet to be neutered. I was a total pest calling to see if he was okay and the girls up front were awesome giving me updates. My little guy pulled out his catheter after they left the first night. I knew he might he’s super flexible and no cone was going to stop him from getting to his ding ding. lol. They didn’t jump the gun and gave him a chance to keep peeing on his own and he did. The doctor called and was great about answering all my questions so I wasn’t so stressed out. He got to go home after 2 1/2 days and I was so happy to have him home . The bill was less than the deposit I left by 500 dollars which was nice and my cat was calm and feeling much better. Totally apparent they took good care of him physically and emotionally as well. I was so pleased with them I left my credit and brought my two girls in to be spayed the next week. Those two as well had a good experience and had blankets to hide under while they were waiting. They were done in just a few hours and I must say the incision I. Both of these kittens was beautifully done. Almost invisible by that night. No problems. No trauma just a good experience . I highly recommend d these ladies especially if you’re a worry wort like me. I am so glad I found a family owned vet closer to my home not corporate , and that is open I. Sundays . Thank you ladies you are so awesome. I have 11 pets so I’m sure I will see you hopefully not too soon but yes definitely the next time I need help. Thanks to the entire office and staff for all your kind work. You rock!

The new ownership here is great. They got us in right away. Dr. Boman really listened to my concerns and took great care of my cat when she was really sick. The staff was also kind and courteous. I would definitely recommend this hospital.

Dr. Bowman and her team have taken excellent care of our baby. He’s senior and needs special attention and the team has been very responsive. Highest recommendation.

Dr. Boman has taken excellent care of Dora. Recently she was able to diagnose and treat her with a tick born disease before it became dire. Maureen, Abby, and staff are wonderful as well! Thank you IB Pet Hospital!

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Dawn Boman and her team at Imperial Beach Pet Hospital and Urgent Care. The entire team is not only incredibly knowledgeable but also works together seamlessly to provide the best possible care for your furry family members. Recently, I had to bring in my 9-month-old Lab puppy on a Saturday afternoon after she badly cut her foot open at the beach. Despite it being the weekend, Dr. Boman was able to stitch her up the same day, sparing me from the exorbitant costs and long waits at an emergency hospital. The care my puppy received was exceptional, thorough, and compassionate. I’ve been a longtime client of Dr. Boman and have followed her to this new location at Imperial Beach Pet Hospital because she consistently provides stellar service and truly cares about her patients. Over the years, Dr. Boman as well as Dr. Mondares have treated all three of my dogs with unwavering expertise and genuine kindness. The dedication and professionalism of the staff make every visit a positive experience. If you’re looking for a veterinarian who is knowledgeable, compassionate, and trustworthy, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Boman and her team. They have earned every one of these five stars!

Dr Boman is an amazing vet. We have had countless emergencies between two dogs. One husky and one golden retriever. She always knows exactly what to do to help us. She is super calm, knowledgeable and confident and absolutely loves her patients. We just had our Husky saved this weekend after getting into rat poison. Dr Boman and her staff were so friendly and kept us calm during the ordeal and our boy is home safe due to their up-to-date testing and knowledge. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone in the county!

New owners just took over September 2024 Dr. Dawn Boman has been our dogs veterinarian since we got her and two dogs before that and we are so happy she is closer now! She is an amazing vet and very focused and dedicated to the pets well-being. Old reviews don’t pertain to new owners who are trying to get place cleaned up and offer more services that are sorely needed in IB. So when you read review look at the dates and names.

unscrupulous place ever!!!! On June 29th 2024, I found this cat in front of my living room window. Immediately went out and picked him. He was in pain, not making moves, breathing very poorly. Gave some water started making some sounds. We went that hospital I told them the situation and also told them I will adopt him. while crying like crazy, with shaking hands holding this little baby. The lady was super rude and told me “ I can’t look at it I don’t know the owner. “ I get that there are some policies and very strict. I said please at least tell me something how he is , she said “ I CANNOT TALK” but let me check the chip, cat was in pain she Wasn’t even careful I said stop and left the place and cat died on the way to other. I know maybe it was not possible to save cat. I know the policy. But it’s not fair working as a veterinarian or assistant whatever and and not even saying “sorry”. Lady lost her humanity. I wish that cat died without meeting her rough hands and heart. That place might me good for your pet’s vaccine and stuff. But as a cat owner, I would never ever take my boy over there again. I will never forget that day in my life. We need people who love their jobs in animal/healthcare systems.

I originally figured out about this place because of a groupon they had. We took our cat here and had a good experience. We then adopted a kitten and took her here since we found her and was about a month old. They both have now gotten all her shots from them and the staff has been very nice with me and my family,from the receptionist to the doctor. I will keep coming here for my cats needs and would recommend to others. (Picture of them on their way to a checkup)

Fantastic vet office. They saved our cat's life. She was hit by a car and they took us right away. The entire staff was so helpful. Our cat was in great hands.
