What clients say about Colter Bay Campground in Moran (WY)

Stayed here five nights, site H164, in a 39 foot class a motorhome pulling a GMC Canyon pick up. No electricity or water hook up, however we were right across from the bathroom that had potable water faucet. We had about four hours of good sun for our solar panels to charge our lithium batteries. I did have to run the generator about an hour each day just to top off the batteries. J Loop does have 50 and 30 amp electric, and most of the sites in the J Loop are huge. After the five nights at Colter Bay, we moved down to the south end of the park in Wilson, Wyoming, at fireside RV resort. Very nice RV park with full hook ups, but three times the cost of Colter Bay. On our next visit to grand Tetons, we will stay at Coulter Bay campground and still be able to access everything we wanted to do in the park.

Great teton views from our campsite (127F), good amenities and friendly staff (thanks Gracie at the gate, you made us feel so welcome). If only it hadn't rained for 2 of the three nights we stayed. Still, good campground would recommend.

There is an RV Park and Campground. The RV park has full hook ups and the campground has some sites with electric and some sections that allow generators. We were in the campground with our 30 Ft travel trailer. Potable water is available and there are 3 dump stations. Sites were pull through and back in. All were spacious with picnic tables and fire rings. Nice space between sites. We would definitely return.

Highly recommend staying if you are exploring the Tetons. Nicely spaced out campsites, we stayed in loop N and it was very quiet. Many amenities within the campground-small grocery store, showers ( $5 and sometimes a long wait , but worth it) . I personally thought Jackson lake was had better views than Jenny lake, recommend renting kayaks/boats.

Beautiful scenery and very quiet. Lots of animal activity. Restrooms need to be updated they are old and dirty.

In 2023, we pulled an 11' camper with our Jeep on an overlanding trip through Yellowstone and the Tetons. We stayed at Colter Bay Campground in Loop K, site 226, which unfortunately had poor drainage and flooded, making our site inaccessible. Due to bad weather, the host stations were unattended, so we left early and parked in the next unoccupied site down. Luckily, several empty spots were available because of the weather. We decided to get up very early the next day and leave to avoid further issues. This was one of the most expensive sites ($55.50 booked through recreation.gov) we paid for during the trip, and overall, we were not pleased with how the situation was handled. The pros were: bear boxes/ bear trash and picnic tables

We really enjoyed our stay here. Staff rotates through regularly cleaning facilities. We had no issues with late night noise or rowdy neighbors. Close to the marina and marina activities. I highly recommend the dinner cruise during your stay. Motorized and non the motorized watercraft available for rent. Arrive early if intending to rent, especially during the busy season. On site, grocery was as one might expect, pricey. Bear box at campsite for all food and toiletries storage was easy to use.

Pros: -general store was huge with a grocery store! Although firewood isn't there. Only at the gas station. -Gas station was open relatively late -no generators -good amount of wifi availability at the stores -everyone was friendly Cons: -our bathroom lights did not work at night. It showed the bathrooms as being 'serviced' but that does not mean a decent cleaning. I think that just means restocking. I saw someone with a clipboard, the last day, coming through checking and after that the floors were mopped and things wiped haha. -firewood is about 17 freaking dollars! They didn't give us a receipt, but 2 things of firewood and a bear bell was 50 dollars. Bear bell was 10 bucks... buy wood in Jackson, it's only 5 bucks at Smith's. -also expect showers to be 5 bucks, pretty standard apparently -our campfire grate was rust welded together which was annoying. Conclusion: Overall for the price I paid a night, it was good. The campsites were good and level, table, etc. The amenities needed work, but for such a cheap site, right up next to Grand Teton, it's good enough.

Colter bay was PERFECT for our first trip to the Tetons. Our site was near the lake so we could walk down during sunrise and sunset. The spots are well kept and the bathrooms were VERY nice for being camping bathrooms. each spot provides a bear box to store any food/drinks. The spots were also not too close to one another to where you felt like you were on top of other campers. Spread out enough to feel like we had our own space. I would highly highly recommend this spot & we will definitely be back

An outstanding campground considering its size of 350 sites. Each site is well laid out with decent greenery between sites. The general store is large, (no produce), they have showers with unlimited hot water, and a laundromat!

Site H 159 very large area for campsite. Close to bathhouse. I haven’t been here in 50 years 90% of campsites are small and right on the street. I was lucky and had a back in site. Bathhouse needed attention. No playground for children. There are dump stations. No hookups. Generators are allowed in this loop at certain times.

Loved camping here. Great site with bear box and easy access to trails, store and laundry. Bathrooms were clean and great to paddle board at String and Leigh Lakes. Easy drive to Jackson and the farmers market was great.

Busy campground with good amenities. The shower rooms and laundry were on the expensive side, but very clean and you got unlimited shower time with good pressure and warmth. The short trail right from the campground visitor center leads to great views.

Excellent campground. Has everything you'd want for glamping. Tent sites are nice sized and well maintained. Bathroom in each site grouping. Bear boxes, fire pit, and picnic table provided. Great swimming area, boat launch, and hiking trails. Full service restaurant, laundry facilities, and a grocery/retail store.

This is the busiest campground area in the park thanks to the amenities next to it. There's a full grocery store, huge laundry building, shower hall, visitor center, multiple restaurants, and multiple trails all within walking distance from camp. Black bears are known to live relatively close to the campground area on the peninsula so be very bear safe. I'd stay here again but this isn't a place if you want a little less traffic. You're also a bit far from the more popular hiking areas. However, in my opinion, the most underrated view in the park is at nearby Heron Pond.

My experience at Colter Bay Campground was nothing short of fantastic! I went tent camping in May, just as the campground was opening for the season. Despite the cool weather, the campground provided everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Each campsite includes a fire pit, picnic table, and bear box, which made cooking and storing food easy and convenient. The proximity to the bathrooms was a plus—they were old but impeccably clean and well-maintained, ensuring a pleasant experience. The campground is dog-friendly, allowing me to bring along my furry companion for the adventure. Additionally, the campground's proximity to the general store was convenient—I could easily access groceries, firewood, and even browse the gift shop for souvenirs. Overall, Colter Bay Campground exceeded my expectations. From the well-equipped campsites to the friendly atmosphere and convenient amenities, it's the perfect base for exploring the beautiful surroundings of Grand Teton National Park. I can't wait to return!

05/30/24 - 6/1/24 OUTSTANDING, TOP KNOTCH CAMPGROUND. We had a fantastic stay here. Easy booking site, Conveniently Located, Very Kind and Helpful Staff. When we came the campground was full. That said one of our favorite things about this campground is the amount of privacy most of the sites offer. Heavily wooded, pitched a tent, nice amount of vehicle parking, very quiet at nite. Day time temps in the 70's, early morning mid 20's, not bad atall camping with a decent sleeping bag. Drinking water, Heated Restrooms and Dishes Cleaning station all within a short walk. Oddly enough our campsite was literally trashed when we arrived with sadly quite a bit of garbage we needed to pick up. This was the only negative thing we had come up and would soly put the Otis on the previous campers.

Stayed at the tent campground for 3 nights, it was nice and quiet even tho it was the busy season. Loved the site, semi close to others but overall nice. "Comfort station" in our loop was clean, weird female urinal in the bathroom but that's ok. Picked this campground due to availability of showers but didn't realize that even if you camp there you have to pay 5$ for a shower (its open to the public and campers do not get a discount :( sadly). Loved the swimming beach spot, perfect to get a nice dip in and watch the sunrise on the Tetons. The general store was useful for quick items, prices were a lil expensive, they had great ice cream, 50/50 on if they had firewood. Went to the pizzeria one night, delish handmade pizza & local beers! Felt bad throwing away 2 slices as it was only my partner and I sharing a pizza. Overall - if you're new to camping or a seasoned camper like ourselves, come here for a few nights to enjoy some close amenities & good food! Take advantage of the swimming beach! Would love to come back next time I'm out in Wyoming. - A couple from NH

Campground is laid out well allowing for lots of campsites, but still some privacy between campsites. Bear boxes at every site and the park also has extensive recycling options. There’s lots to do in the Colter Bay area of Grand Teton, but this location is towards the northern end of the park so expect some driving to get to your favorite hikes.

Colter Bay Campground in Grand Teton National Park is one of the largest camping sites Located near Colter Bay Village , the view from Jackson lake is amazing . Also it not only provides such as laundry facilities, showers, restaurants, and a grocery store but also a marina, gift shops, visitor center, etc . It is very busy area ?

I have been camping here since I was a kid in the 1960s. The loops are laid out for a private, peaceful spot in the pines. It is a beautiful area, of course & the campground works with that. For big rigs that need a generator loop, reserve EARLY. If you are boondocking, you should enjoy this campground. Colter Bay is one of the most convenient locations for grocery, deli, restaurants, laundry & showers.

We really enjoyed staying here! Our camp site was easy to access with our 30 foot camper trailer. Lots of trees around and the camp hosts were friendly. Some sites have partial hookups so pay close attention to which one you book. There are a few sewer dump stations available as you exit the campground, which is convenient! Be aware that since the campground is within Teton NP, you have to pay the national park entrance fee of $35, plus an additional $35 if you want to enter Yellowstone. It was worth it for us to get the $80 annual pass.

A beautiful, large, well maintained campground that is only about 500 yards from the lake. Employees are polite and very helpful. Restaurant, gift shop, visitors center all within walking distance.

Well run campground. If you’re not big on wanting to have animals around your tent, this is one of the better campgrounds to go to. The showers were clean and easy to use their coin system. For the campsites, the new bear boxes they put in are spacious and can fit several large coolers.

Such a nice campground a little bit on the expensive side. We would definitly come back. I felt very safe. The toilets were okay and clean, the showers were clean too ($5 per person). The lake was nearby and very beautiful.

First time here, even booking last minute and was able to get a spot. The campground is huge. I loved that it has loops for tent only or RV. Very convenient place to buy something you probably forgot or need, even though of course it’s overpriced. The only reason why I gave it four stars was because of the showers not being included. If I had booked earlier I would have booked a campsite with showers included. The price is $5 per person or if you have a bigger family it’s 5 persons /$15 plus an extra person for $3. Not bad after being out all day and coming back to a hot shower? It’s still great to have showers close to you. Don’t let that be a dealbreaker though. They were super clean! The laundry is great too so you can go home with clean clothes?. They have bear boxes at every site so make sure you use it and clean up after yourself when you cook. The bathrooms at the loops were clean and well lit. They also have a place to dump your dish water so you can’t just toss it on the ground to keep bears off the campground. We did spot a mama bear and her cubs close to the entrance one day and the rangers were onsite making sure everyone was keeping their distance. Close to Jackson Lake so you can walk around.

This place is great if you want to disconnect from everything. There are plenty of bathrooms around the camp; however, don’t expect too much. This place is a simple campground. I just wished they had more hook ups as they are more often than not fully booked many months in advance. The showers are great but it’s $5! Worth it after long day of hike.

We had a great time camping at Colter Bay. We reserved a spot in the D loop which was a super short walk to Jackson Lake beach which had incredible views of the Grand Tetons. The kids enjoyed swimming - would recommend: water shoes and inflatables. If you’re an early riser you can claim a picnic table near the beach (no view) where you can grill out and set up corn hole.

Overall nice campground. Lost a star for being more of a village than a campground. Busy place in a popular national park so understandable. Each camp loop has its own bathroom building and every site has its own bear box for food items which is nice and convenient. Showers and laundry are centrally located in village area down the road from the camp sites. Beach on jackson lake is a nice place to spend the day and watch the mountains.
