Please post that compost is only available before 3:30 pm. even though site is open till 4pm. I would have other plans than to get turned away. Kind of hard to purchase if you work a first shift job.
I found an old bottle of mercury. Called and they said they would take it if it was padded and placed in an extra container. Seemed reasonable. Staff was helpful and friendly.
The main area is the composting. Rows and rows of rich, leafy soil additive. There are also wood chips available. You can buy compost and chips by the cubic yard and they will load it into your truck.This is where you go to drop off brush and yard waste, as these are not allowed in landfills
There is a pile of free compost, but you have to screen it yourself. If you have something unusual (like say, mercury), give them a heads up to see if they'll take it.
Make sure to precheck what is accepted here before you assume it will be as it once was. Also, be sure to check the times they are open, as that too, isn't what it had been. Not so user friendly for some.
They used to take rechargeable batteries for free and you could drop off cans, bottles and paper 24/7. Not anymore. You can drop off your old NiCd's and CFL's at Lowes for free. OfficeMax also does fixed priced boxes for e-waste, so basically I only stop here now to drop off yard clippings. I'm just waiting for the day when they start locking up the compost area too, making it even more inconvenient. One tip for large e-waste items: You get a cheaper rate if you disassemble your items and take in the purely electronic parts. You can take the scrap metal and pitch it in the dumpster at Sadoff Iron. They no longer pay you anything unless you have over 200 pounds of steel. Lame
