I like this recycling facility I know I live in Virginia but I always take things into West Virginia to drop them off. The guy there takes scrap stuff and you can drop them off with him plus you can take your trash and things like that. The staff is very good very nice very professional and friendly and I highly recommend this place.
The Charles R. Biggs Recycling Center in Berkeley Springs is a valuable resource for the community. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the center is well-organized and clean. It's mind-boggling that a beautiful state like West Virginia doesn’t have a stronger department within waste management to support and expand recycling efforts. We’re so lucky to have this center here, and I genuinely appreciate the people who work hard to keep it running. They’re doing an amazing job filling a gap that really shouldn’t exist.
Once again I have loaded a car full of recyclables only to find out they are CLOSED again. Heat index? It isn't until late this afternoon that the weather shows high temperatures. It wouldn't be so bad if they were open tomorrow, but when they decide to be closed on Monday they don't open again until Friday. MAYBE, POSSIBLY. If it isn't too hot or too cold or too wet or too dry or too whatever. Wish I had the option during my career to not work whenever the weather didn't suit me.
Two of the hardest working community members can be found right here. Many thanks to Junior and Brenda for working tirelessly through the heat and humidity of summer and the cold windy winters. You two are the best!
I make a trip to recycle most every week, about six miles from home but worth the drive. The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I understand the need to train new helpers and do appreciate the extra help. Many thanks for having this local sight available to all local people.
Loaded my recycle stuff on Monday but fortunately before leaving found out you were closed due to extreme heat. Today I checked the website and phoned and there were no indications you were closed so I drove the 7 miles to the center only to discover you were closed again due to extreme heat. The temperature at your gate was 82 degrees. Will you be open as usual tomorrow?
Tried to recycle again today, 17 July, and went early before the day heated up. It never opened even though the Web site said they would be open. The temperature was 81 degrees at the gate. The 90 degree heat warning closure should be changed to 80 degrees and the public should be alerted by phone message or web post that you will be closed.
Recycle stuff still in my car for 5 days now - hopefully your gate will be unlocked this coming Monday. ??
I want to like this place, I really do. But there's no way to find out if they're closed before you get there. And if they're closed on a Monday, then I'm driving around with a car full of recycling until at least Friday.
Overall, not a bad spot to drop off a few things in between longer trips to the big recycling center in Martinsburg, because this place doesn't take any glass, or plastics other than 1 and 2. So you'll probably need to alternate between various recycling centers.
A great place to do good things for the planet. Helpful, friendly staff. Wish they'd go back to accepting glass and hard plastic, but I understand why they don't anymore.
The only thing that would make this facility better for myself would be having it's location closer. The staff is very helpful, it is organized, well marked, there is no cost (a donation helps ensure they are able to continue). My drive to Berkeley Springs not only help with landfills it also cuts trash disposal fees, the recycled material are used by companies in both WV and VA.
