What clients say about Hokes Mill Covered Bridge in Ronceverte (WV)
-
Hokes Mill Covered Bridge was built between 1897 and 1899, spanning Second Creek near Ronceverte. It was constructed on stone abutments above what was then Hoke's Mill. It features a modified Long truss, a design patented by Stephen H. Long in 1830 that uses all-wood construction with diagonal bracing for strength. The bridge is 81.6 feet long and 12 feet wide with red board and-batten siding and a standing seam metal roof. In the mid 20th century, the bridge was updated with steel girders and wide flange beams to support vehicular traffic. However, in 1991 a modern and boring concrete bridge was built adjacent to ensure longevity of the history bridge. It is possible to walk across, one of just five surviving Long truss bridges in the entire state of West Virginia.

Old wooden bridge that’s been renovated 23 years ago. Parking for 2/3 cars and no facilities at all. Nice creek flowing under.

Absolutely love covered bridges and the history they hold. The stories those bridges could tell I imagine would be fascinating.

This covered bridge is no longer in use but a nice piece of history. Too many bees around to get too close.

Way out in the country on a very narrow winding road. The bridge is no longer in use, even with a renovation in 2002. It's too bad people feel they have to put graffiti on the bridge. Beautiful setting over a lazy creek. Glad we ventured out to see the bridge.

Enjoyed a pleasant 4th of July picnic with an incredible woman and of course two fur babies. If you get the chance stop there if only for a moment...the memory will last a lifetime.

It's been mentioned how there is a bit of graffiti, and that is true, sadly, but they've added 3'x3' plywood boards where you are allowed to add your "was here" signature without harming the bridge. Beautiful location over a decent running creek, with room around it for picnicking, or other family fun. Lots of room for the kids to safely stretch their feet.

Very pretty, somewhat secluded, covered bridge with a walking path

The covered bridge has been well preserved. It's a shame people feel the need to graffiti and carve into it.

I love this covered bridge, well kept, so sad to see the graffiti all over the bridge on the inside of it

Wish locals did more to protect it. My ancestors built it and it means alot to me and other family members. Unfortunately, I'm living more than 8 hours away

Hokes Mill Covered Bridge is a decent little place to visit near The Greenbrier area. It does have lots of graffiti from disrespectful visitors. Good for taking pictures. Litter is abundant, in the water as well. The bridge is nice. The surroundings, not so much. Including used drug paraphernalia. Watch your step.

Not much to do other than view a covered bridge in very good condition. Second Creek runs underneath and is over a foot deep there even during this prolonged drought.

Cute little covered bridge. A little bit of graffiti inside but sometimes that can’t be helped.
