What clients say about Tacoma – Landfill Recycling Center in Tacoma (WA)

Love this place. It has saved me so much money by taking my yardwaste & recycling in without paying for weekly refuse containers. I've also dropped off couches, fencing with concrete, entire uhaul of trash and not terribly expensive for Tacoma residents.

In these pics you can see what they currently accept (including regular plastic grocery bags and cardboard). There's also always someone available in case you have any questions.

I did the Drop-Off recycling thing and it was very easy! I drove up (following just 2 visible signs) and pulled up to the line of recycling bins to deposit my boxes. There's designated spots for plastics, paper, glass, and more. Very user friendly and no people interactions needed.

Only downside was they needed two people at the windows (intake & leaving). All employees were nice. Lines were just long.

I really appreciate this place. It's rewarding to have a place to take all my recyclables. The place is set up nicely, making it easy to take care of business. Update: Another easy peasy trip to drop off my recyclables. Always quick and easy and CLEAN!

Not easy to navigate if its your first time. No visual instructions posted anywhere and the attendants are giving shared expressions as if your supposed to know how to navigate a huge waste center. Be prepared for long lines, disgruntled attendants and wear covered shoes, you will be dumping your own refuse.

Arrived a couple minutes before 5:30 with some brush. The attendant brusquely tells me that they're basically closed, and that if I continue to the dump area they may charge a late fee up to $200. Why not just close at 5:20 then?

Recycling is free. Employees always friendly and helpful. Recycle metals, wires, glass, plastics, styrofoam, cardboard, paper, batteries, motor oil, and hazardous materials. For latex paint stir in cat litter and let it dry. Put in the garbage.

Well marked lanes and an organized recycling area. Lines outside peak hours move fast. They are no longer accepting electronics for recycling. The only thing I wish they had a separate line or road for yard waste, since you need to drive through the waste disposal area to get to the yard waste area, which means getting to wait in that line after the scale.

We were discriminated against as military spouses by an attendant today who refused to give us the resident rate when we love less than five miles from the dump but have put of state id’s. I have never had this issue before the numerous times I have been here. So sad to see that they are discriminating against the military and treating people so Poorly.

Everyone that works here is friendly and helpful. The dump prices are really decent, and the recycling is free. You can get rid of old batteries and hazardous materials. You can even donate books and the recycling is broken down into so many options that you can pretty much recycle anything.

The staff at the recycling facility are the nicest people! They always take time to answer questions and/or explain the sorting process. I really enjoy going to this facility.

Friendly staff. Enter through Mullen St, as other entrances are Authorized Personnel only. Discard scrap metal, plastics, bottles for free here. They accept styrofoam, though at the moment, it is placed into landfill (current as of July 2024.) The machine that they used to have for styrofoam recycling broke years ago, and its replacement is coming in ~1.5yrs depending on funding.

Staff here is great ! The person weighing at the kiosk is awesome at doing 100 questions of the exact same thing .. Yes I’m a resident and that’s what my I.d says .

First time here and I was nervous I'd get lost but they make it really easy to follow the road and the attendants are super kind and helpful and point you were to go. It was a busy Saturday but I was in and out in 30 minutes and paid 20 bucks for an SUV full of stuff. Great experience.

40$ minimum for a bunch of sticks and leaves...?. Over $50 in the end for me... Freakin robbery. I thought I would do the responsible thing by taking yard waste in. Guess I'm going back to burning. The guys there are kind a-holes too. I would recommend you look for other means of yard waste disposal.. Just go to LRI Purdy Transfer Station. You'll pay 6 bucks for the bridge, but as long as you dont have more than 2000 pounds of yard waste, it's free.

Hey all, new here and didn't find this info on their website or maps reviews. $40 for up to 400lbs. Of waste. Had friendly people and staff. It's well laid out so it's pretty easy even for a newbie. Yes they do accept credit cards.

Got charged $40 for 40 lbs of leaves. Now that's bad business. Will never use them again.toyota tacoma, not even half full of leaves. It's free st at LRI. Same county . Talk about bending you over. Thought the guy said 4 not 40. Never would of dumped. I dumped today a full load of carpet and pad at Lacey $32. They need to reimburse. And it was Residential.

Went there to dump dirt after calling in and being told I could dump dirt there for free. Was quickly informed that was never the policy. I chatted with a supervisor Ed who told me that I could go to the Hidden Valley location and take care of my dirt for free there. I drove the 35 minutes out to south hill where I was told it would cost more than it would at the Mullins Location. I called Ed back to let him know and he became very unprofessional very quickly. He was rude and aggressive and very unhelpful. Found a private dump site that will accept dirt for $50 at any size. McLain soil was very helpful and kind to us.

Today I recycled some glass and dropped off a lot of hazardous materials. Both the staff working around the recycle bins and the hazardous material staff were friendly and very helpful. They all made my trip super easy. Appreciate them all!! Always have a good experience whether using the dump or recycling.

They were closed when they were reported open in Google, my family came 3 times before we gave up. Once we spoke to a man who directed us to leave and said they would open in 1 hour or 2 so we came back 2 hours later but they were closed before their hours of operations said they would close. Don't waste your gas and time!! *** IR in Puyallup was open in their hours of operations; dumping clean carton is free, and everything else is considered trash (including plastic etc) around $35 per load with a weight up to 400lbs. We had less than that just wanted it out of our cars so you decide.

I absolutely love this Option available As of Tacoma resident and a Tacoma Public Utilities customer. Employees are really nice and very helpful. If you're not a Tacoma resident you're going to have to pay. that's just the way it works, after all they're taking your garbage. So don't complain, just pay the fee.

First, dumped garbage for minimum of $40. Doesn’t matter if you’re dumping a bag of packing peanuts - minimum, it’s $40 bucks. Fine. Then the rate goes down, obviously, to X amount per 100 pounds…We dumped a small load then went to recycle glass - found out the glass we had couldn’t be recycled (8 x 10 window panes) so we went back through with receipt in hand saying we were just here and wanting to do the right thing by recycling the glass - can you see if our combined weights fall within the $40 weight range - happy to pay the price per hundred pounds if we’ve gone over…nope! Charged us another $40…guy, who won’t look us in the eye, says, it’s “your responsibility to know what kind of glass can and cannot be recycled…”. Hahaha riiiiiiiiiiiight…..and now I’m off to poll 100 random Tacomans…because everyone knows the rules of glass recycling, correct?

This place is awesome for home recycling. I live in an apartment that doesn't provide recycling services, so every couple of weeks I drop off my pre-sorted metal and aluminum cans, glass jars and bottles, plastics of all sorts, cardboard, old magazines and mixed paper. There's never a line for the home recycling lane, you just drive in and back up to the bins. They accept pretty much anything here, but you will need to sort it into the proper bins.

Only dump I go to gets packed like most ! But moves fast most the time !!

Staff act like theiy're only there to clock the dollar,. They should learn customer service from the toll collectors at the Narrows. The lines can be long and only one person at the scales at a time. Lines for the recycle are not much better esp. in summer and with back in parking only, most take up 2 spots bc they don't know how to back in. I've lived here my whole life incl. back when you had to drive thru stinky mud bogs with garbage piled higher than your ab. At least now you can unload under cover so you can go rain or shine. Now he issue is what hours is the recycle center open. Yesterday the sign said open Sat Sun. Your guess is as good as mine! And as for the employees., be thankful you are healthy enough and lucky enough to even have a decent paying job! I had one too, until suddenly I didn''t.

Where I live the recycling guys won’t puck up our recycling. I live in a retirement building. Over 62 and most disabled. This has been going on for several weeks now. I volunteered to jump in both of our dumpsters. I tool caps off our bottles, made sure no plastic bags were in dumpster, checked for no dirty paper plates,, checked bottles to make sure they were cleaned. The guys showed up lifted the lids and walked away. I walked out and asked why they weren’t picking up. Said looks like a plastic bag at the bottom and a paper plate was on top. That paper plate was clean. I know so because I checked. Shame on you for lazy workers.

Best recycling center. The people are always friendly and are willing to help out. When we first moved here we dropped all the moving supplies (i.e. boxes and papers). Now that we are moving out they let us have the spare boxes and bubble wrap for our move and held some in the back for us if we were to request it early in the day. I had only pleasent experiences and would not hesitate to recommend them.

Easy to find and super nice staff! I arrived at the dump last Thursday morning completely clueless, but no problem. From the woman at the check-in scale to the man who greeted me at the transfer station building and the man who helped me unload my bulky loveseat, the process couldn't have been simpler. Thanks!
