Pulled in at 5PM on Thursday because my headlights were too dim. They had a guy come over and switch them out in a jiffy. No appt. needed, just got the work done.
John retired! I am happy for him but sad for the community because this is the best place ever.
I never asked what anything would cost because I knew they were honest and it would be reasonable
Modern Collision bought them and I am going today and crossing my fingers they continue uphold John’s legacy :-)
John and his team are great. They were very helpful and didn’t give up until the issue was figured out and fixed. It’s awesome to be able to say I trust and recommend them.
This is the first mechanic since I started driving that hasn't taken advantage of me. I look significantly younger than my age, and to be honest, I'm ignorant when it comes to cars, so places would just take advantage of me but not here. He is upfront and honest. I have so much respect for that. I will be a repeat customer because I genuinely trust his knowledge, and I know they have integrity and morals. Not only that, they KNOW what they're doing, unlike Firestone, who changed my tires and somehow managed to damage my oil cap??
These guys are awesome. Excellent service at very reasonable rates. Tough to contact; they don’t always answer their phone, so we’ve had to drive by to set up appointments.

I make parts deliveries to many many shops 5 days a week. The couple who own this spot are 2 of the most kind hearted people you'd every meet. I always see repeat/return customers here and only seem happy(even with car problems). I just deliver the stuff, but I've overheard many customers talk of how fair the pricing is, and always honest and not adding frivolous work. I live far from here (2 hours)but if I needed work done I would trust this shop with any car of mine!
They represent what all repair shops should model. Honesty, integrity, value. This is a lost art in most places but not here. This is the classroom where all auto repair professionals should learn the business of taking care of the customer.
For nearly 30 years, John and his crew at Island Center Auto have taken great care of our cars. We would highly recommend Island Center Auto to anyone on or off the Island. However, you must go in to schedule an appointment because they are too busy to answer their phone! Well worth making the appt in person.
My only complaint here has ever been that its hard to get a hold of them via telephone. But it’s almost not even worth mentioning because I trust them completely- they have never let us down. John is a genuinely fair and honest mechanic.
I stumbled on the earlier reviews and have to concur with them all. I've trusted Island Center Auto since the early 80's. They have checked out every car me or my kids have purchased, and serviced my fleet for decades. Excellent Quality, Service, and Ethics. They are still not good at answering phones... But that just helps keep the line shorter for the regulars, so I don't want them to improve in that arena. They will definitely call when your car is ready to pick up, which is really the only important use for their phone.
