What clients say about Bainbridge Island Auto Repair in Bainbridge Island (WA)

If you have made the life decision to daily drive an older German car (most people think that’s misguided), you need a knowledgeable mechanic to help you keep it on the road. Even a well-maintained car that’s in its 20’s is going to have parts that age out. Many of these cars are both complex and difficult to work on. The importance of finding a mechanic that is willing to work with you and the car cannot be overstated. BI Auto Repair is just such a shop.

Had a great experience here. Not happy with Chrysler, but very happy with Bainbridge Island auto repair.

I have been coming here for almost 20 years for service of our vehicle, which most recently is a Mercedes. They are better priced than bringing the car in to the dealer in Seattle and I save the time and expense of the ferry back and forth. They also have a person who shuttles me back at our home while the service is being done. Highly recommended.

I couldn’t be more impressed with the service at Bainbridge Island Auto. They took the time to thoroughly inspect my Toyota and confirmed that I did, in fact, need a new transmission. But they didn’t stop there. They went the extra mile by researching my vehicle’s specific issue and discovered that Toyota had issued a service bulletin and extended the warranty for my model. Because of their diligence and integrity, I learned that Toyota will be covering the transmission repair at no cost to me. What truly stands out is that Bainbridge Island Auto was genuinely looking out for me as a customer and as a person. They didn’t have to go through all that extra work just to inform me that I could have the repair done elsewhere. Their honesty and dedication to doing the right thing have earned my trust and loyalty. Highly recommend!

I was visiting from Edmonds and got a nail in my tire! I stopped in and they took care of me right away. The owner swapped in my spare, free of charge, and gave me some recommendations for getting a new tire put on. The real boss, the Boston Terrier, was very welcoming as well.

I love, love, love Brad, Keith and their crew at Bainbridge Island Auto. They stand by their work, charge fairly, are honest, and are a pleasure to talk to and work with. I've taken my Mercedes, Suzuki, and Audi to them and have been very happy.

Below, I will explain my experience with this mechanic and leave you to draw your own conclusions. Apologies for the long-windedness, but this saga has been dragging on since December (writing this on March 1st). I originally visited this shop for a 60k mile service, and was scheduled an appointment quickly and easily. I specifically requested that the brakes be inspected, since they were making a light squeaking. The inspection was done in a respectable amount of time, and I was told that the brakes were completely fine, but the serpentine belts definitely needed to be replaced. I told them to go ahead with the fix for the belts, and the total cost for the 60k mile service + the belt replacement came to $798. Within a week of this service, my car began to gently vibrate. I thought maybe the tires were adjusting to the tire rotation they performed, but the problem only got worse. Eventually, I noticed the smell of worn brakes, along with smoke coming from one of my rear brake rotors. I gave the shop the benefit of the doubt, even though the timing was very coincidental. I took the car back in about 10 days later. Turns out, the brake caliper "hung," which required both rear rotors, calipers, and pads to be replaced. This ran $980. A couple weeks after that, I noticed that the car's belts were starting to make noise -- the squealing noise you've probably heard from rundown cars. This initially occurred during cold starts, and once the car warmed up some, the issue went away. At this point, I've sunk $1,778 (and a good amount of time) into the car within a 2 week time period, so I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping the issue would go away on its own. When it persisted, I gave the guys at the shop a call, and they told me to bring it by any time. Since the squealing would dissipate once the car warmed up, by the time I got it to their shop there was no noise present. Keith (the owner) gave the belts a quick inspection, and said they felt good and tight. Fortunately he trusted me (I also showed him videos I took documenting the noise), and asked me to drop off the car overnight when convenient. *To their credit, they replaced the belt again at no cost to me* (although to be fair, the belts were still under warranty). Finally, as the car is being returned to me, and I'm driving back with one of the employees as part of the shuttle service they offer. Within 100 feet of the shop, the belts begin making more noise than ever. Several of the employees -- including the tech who replaced the belt -- are befuddled as to what the problem could be. They asked me to bring the car in again later in the week. I'm fully expecting the worst: water pump failure, pullies needing to be replaced, power steering problems, etc. I speak with my wife, and we decide that we should get a second opinion before throwing any more money at the car. A competing mechanic was able to inspect the belts the next day, determine that they had not been tightened enough, fix the problem, and send me on my way for $88. The experience with the staff was pretty great. Fairly nice guys who explained everything they were doing, they washed the car during the brake service, didn't sell me on new brake pads when I suspected they needed changing, and offered a shuttle service. However, for my family, there were just too many coincidences working against them. This may not be the case for you, but I can only judge based off my personal experience.

Took my car in for a brake change and 2 days later felt violent shaking from the back. I pull over and find 3 lug nuts missing from the driver rear wheel. The wheel itself was barely on by a thread and I’m thankful I caught it before it came off entirely. I do not recommend.

We have been taking our cars to Jerry and Bainbridge Island Auto Repair (BIAR) for 6 years. We have a 15 year old Mercedes convertible, a 17 year old Jag, a 3 year old Denali and a 1 year old Outback. The service has been reliable and prompt. When the Jag needed a new seat motor we went to another shop on the island and they ordered an incorrect part, and would not send back the part for a credit due to its "age". BIAR ordered the correct part, which was new and installed it without any problems. They are not the cheapest for standard items, but they are not unreasonable. For the more complex repairs they are more than fair, and stand behind their work. If you have a problem with what they did, they fix it without argument. We had an air-conditioning compressor go out, they replaced it but it did not work as well as expected. Took it back in and the problem was fixed without any questions asked.

I don't have a clue why my husband would want to own a 1970 280SL but he does. When that car arrived by eighteen wheeler from California and the next drop off was Bill Cosby's in NJ somewhere, I knew I was looking at a money pit, dreaded future repairs and hoped it would get from point A to point B. We lived in MD and our name was not Leno. Ten years later we moved out here to the NW and brought the car. Of course. Until a neighbor and a friend from church mentioned Keith, my husband was still being ripped off by mechanics out here from Kingston to Poulsbo who all thought they were expert foreign car mechanics. Keith and his team are expert mechanics plus they love working on these classic, foreign, speciality cars. They research major problems if there are any. They must know where every part for these old cars, used and new, is located. Since we met Keith I now know we can drive from Point A to Point B with confidence.

I've used this auto repair shop many times, for many vehicles over the years. As long as it has been owned by Keith, I've had consistently good experiences and fair pricing. In my experience, he and his staff have shown good integrity and good technical knowledge, whether my car was European, American-made or Japanese.

Well, I've been going here for as long as I have been driving. This place has been great. Keith and his team behind him has been vary knowledgeable. The thing that has impressed me over and over is that no car is the same. They have always gone above and beyond on work they have preformed by attacking each job the same. Their processes are the same as factory in regards to diagnosing and preforming work. Great Company and Great Place!

Please stay away from these scammers. I brought my car over with very specific instructions on what needed to be done. Received a quote for wrk and ended up being a couple hundred more dollars than originally quoted with no prior warning..... they like to take advantage of hard working ppl. Work listed on my receipt does not reflect the work done. Now i can't even pop my trunk open. Now every time i call i get an excuse as to why i can't talk to the person who did the repair. Total waste of money. Wish i could take it back.

I have had the most wonderful service at Bainbridge Island Auto Repair! A few months ago i acquired my dream car, a 1990 Mercedes. I got it for a song, but with guidance from Keith at BI Auto Repair, i went into it knowing that it would take some extensive repairs to get her in great shape. I have had some major repairs, as well as a few minor things taken care of thus far, and each encounter has been a wonderful experience. I know that they have 'given me a break' consistently - the repairs have been perfection and the service awesome! Every person there, including Keith, Sabrina and Kai have shown excellence unfailingly, as well as the others that cheerfully have interrupted their work to give me a ride to wherever i was needing to be. I just had a minor repair done - they had my car less than 24 hours, and when i picked it up, it blew my mind: they had cleaned the inside of my car - vacuumed, armor-alled throughout, and lo-and-behold, they had washed and waxed the exterior (which was sorely needed after our week of foul weather), and these things were done as a courtesy (WOW!) I love that they are so conscientious and it is obvious they take great pride in their Mercedes service. They have also patiently taught me how to care for my beautiful car, taking notice of every detail of her needs, and she is being restored to perfection. I REALLY NEED A PLACE LIKE BAINBRIDGE ISLAND AUTO REPAIR- it has been perfection throughout this process. I feel very grateful to have them to rely on!
