AVOID This Shop: Horrible Experience and Unauthorized Charges
My recent visit to this automotive shop was absolutely terrible. I initially went in for a simple wiper blade replacement, and it turned into a complete rip-off.
I asked them to perform a few general checks on my car to see if any additional work was needed. To my shock, they proceeded to do these "checks" and then charged me an exorbitant $200 for unauthorized diagnostic work! They never called me to inform me of the cost or to get my permission before performing this service.
This is completely unacceptable. They will gouge you for money without any prior communication or authorization. If you ask them to look into anything, be prepared for an unexpected and high bill.
Do not go to this shop unless you want to be overcharged and have work done without your consent. I will never be returning.
I took my car to Baird Automotive for power steering repairs. While the car was in the shop, the garage called to say that they would need to cut into the bottom of the car to access the power steering. I gave my approval for them to do this. I picked up the car and paid about $1,560 for the work. Not even two hours after leaving the shop, while parallel parking, my car caught on fire. A passerby alerted me, and by the time the fire department arrived, the entire front end of my car was engulfed in flames. The car was a total loss. I returned to Baird Automotive to speak with Joey Baird. Rather than working to make things right, Joey's reaction was to refer this to his insurance company. I offered to settle things peacefully by asking for a refund in exchange for a non-disparagement agreement and a promise not to take legal action. Joey refused even that. While car repairs are never guaranteed to be perfect, a reliable and trustworthy mechanic should at least stand behind their work and handle customer concerns with integrity. The fact that my car caught fire less than two hours after leaving the shop raises serious questions about the quality of the work performed, and Joey Baird's lack of professionalism refusal to make things right was a disappointment.
Joey Baird believes in customer satisfaction. Brought in a 2021 CRV today to fix the A/C not producing cold air. Unbeknownst to me the problem of the leak was under a manufacturer 10-year warranty.issued nationally a couple of years after I bought the car. He printed for me the online notice of extended warranty and advised I could take that notice to a Honda dealer to repair the A/C for free. Joey didn’t charge a dime to test the A/C and troubleshoot the problem.

I was a first-time customer who dropped my car off and asked for a VA safety inspection. Unbeknownst to me they don't do state safety inspections. Rather than call and let me know this, they proceeded to do their own inspection and charged me $90 for it, a VA state inspection only costs $20. They should have called me and given me the opportunity to decline it.
I love Baird Automotive! I'm a young woman and I've taken my older car in twice (for repairs necessary before I have the car inspected in the state of VA). The employees are helpful and trustworthy. They are willing to go the extra mile and I feel the pricing is very fair!
The people here really know their stuff and they are very trustworthy. I'm so happy to have found them, it's been so hard for me to find a shop I trust with my older car.
NEVER EVER GO TO THIS SHOP! They misdiagnosed the issue with my car, overcharged me for an unnecessary repair, but the worse part was continued to deny that they had put in a off-market part. On top of that Joey was rude and unkind.

Go to Tenleytown Auto - they will charge less, treat you better, and actually fix your car.
I have been a customer about 3 years now. They serviced my Alfa Romeo (oil change and diagnostics), and advised the right time to change brake pads and rotors. I really appreciate their honesty and the Customer centric approach. The
"other" service shop I went to before Baird's, pushed me to replace the whole brake rotors and pad setup, front and back, (which still had 20K miles of life) for an exorbitant amount. They saved me time and money.
Baird automotive is upfront, reasonable, no up-selling the services.You can check the updated price on the wall, left side of the reception counter. They will tell you what they can service, what they can't, recommend the right maintenance and procedures. I am a car enthusiast, and understand which parts require what kind of maintenance, and when needs to be replaced. Super happy with them, no smoke-and-mirrors.
I recently purchased an Audi, took it there for post-purchase inspection, and was really happy with their service (unlike the nearby Audi dealership which I opted for similar service an costed me 3x). I will be booking them for the upcoming oil changes and services.

I had a very positive experience using this shop. They changed out my break pads and fixed a clunking sound in the front of the car when I hit speed bumps. They gave me a quote and fixed both issues in a couple of days. They are highly communicative, polite, and they won't try to overcharge or oversell you something that you don't need. I would recommend them to anyone who doesn't want to pay thousands of dollars at dealerships.
Baird Automotive is absolutely wonderful and I don't have the words to describe how thankful I am for them. Joey was kind and patient with all my questions and explained everything in depth to me. Baird is the only auto shop I have found around here that has worked with me regarding my car and hasn't tried to upsell or overcharge me. They have become my new place to go if I have issues and I cannot recommend them enough!
I've been meaning to review these guys for a while. I took my car there based on other favourable reviews and word of mouth and am entirely satisfied. I have been there three times and would go back.
They were happy to run their diagnostic tool on my car free of charge to give me an initial indication on how serious the faults were, they gave me a good indication of how expensive it might be, and then then they gave me a fair price. When I went there the wait to book my car in was about 4-5 days, but it was worth it. I didn't need the work done sooner, so I don't know if they can fit you in inside that timeframe if it's urgent.
Overall, I recommend these guys to my friends.
Joey Baird is trustworthy and reliable. Joey gave my 2014 Audi Q5 a 100k mile tuneup for 1/3 the cost the dealer quoted me. The car is driving like new. I highly recommend for any automotive repair issues.
I only trust Baird with my cars! I've been going to him since I moved to the area and I refer all of my friends. He always beats the other mechanics, has the best customer service and I never feel he's taking advantage.

Joey Baird and his staff are highly knowledgeable and trustworthy. They don't get any better, and it all comes at a very fair price. They have even put my car on the lift and diagnosed without charge, and without my committment from me to do the work. But, please keep all this to yourself, otherwise they could get too busy!
Honestly you can look no further. You can trust the people here at Baird Automotive. I went in for 2 lower ball joints. But they also recommended another bushing that needed attention. More than fair pricing. Been to many auto shops in Arlington and this is the best one.
Excellent! I already knew that my left taillight and rear brakes needed to be replaced. But Joey (owner) suggested that my tires would perform better if I increased pressure from 32 lbs (as recommended by both car and tire mfr) to 35 lbs. He was right! I can tell the improvement, especially when cornering.

This really is the best mechanic in the DMV area. Way back when I was a broke kid out of college, I brought my car in after the dealership wanted to clean out my bank account to do some minor repairs. Joe walked me through what can be done now and what can wait and then charged way less than any other place around. I've trusted him ever since and only recently made the mistake of going somewhere else to have some work done. This other place wanted to charge me so much for this work, so I called Joe to get his thoughts, and sure enough he responded with explaining there's a possibility that the work wasn't even necessary because the particular year for my car had some quarks and the maker acknowledged them. I really appreciate how he keeps up-to-date knowledge on these things and is honest with me.

They will not up sell you on things you do not need and they will do the job right. Highly recommended.
This is one of those rare reviews I'm reluctant to give... Baird is great for all the right reasons. When something is wrong they fix it, but when nothing is really wrong, they don't over sell something you don't need - otherwise known as "an honest mechanic". They're rare, and the only downside of the good work is they are super busy and an appointment is a must. Thus, my reluctance.... they deserve the awesome review but do I really want to share? Sigh. Yes.
I've been taking my car to Baird for a few years...and now my wife is taking her's there as well. The one thing you need most when selecting a mechanic...is trust. Trusting the business to begin working on your vehicle when they say they will...and finishing when they say they will. Trusting that the owner won't try to "sell" you on needless repairs. Trust in the mechanics to do a good job...and certainly trust in the business...to stand behind their work. You'll check all of these points off the list at Baird. I've had minor work done at Baird...and a few major repairs as well. Outstanding service and extremely satisfied! This is the only shop that will work on our vehicles.
The staff at Baird are fantastic. I had a very weird, difficult to diagnose problem with my car. The guys at Baird were relentless in figuring out the problem and getting my car back to me in tip top shape. And each step of the way they were transparent and explained exactly what they were doing, what they thought needed to be done, and how much it would cost. I used Baird Automotive for about a decade (about 1998-2008) when I lived in Georgetown in DC. They did all the routine maintenance on my cars (such as lights, brakes, timing belts, etc.). They were completely reliable and reasonably and fairly priced. In 2008 I moved to the Eastern Shore of MD where I now live.
Last month I was driving via DC to North Carolina when my car began to make an unusual noise. I first panicked but decided to take it to Baird to see if they would fit me in and find out if it was serious. I went there, encountered the same guy who used to manage my service (Mr. Baird?), who said I should wait a few minutes. I did, then he came back, and we went for a ride, with him driving my car. He came back to the garage, told me to wait in the waiting area and put the car on a lift.
About 20 minutes later he came back and said the noise was not serious and I could continue the trip. When I asked him for a bill, he said it was on the house. I insisted and he resisted. I finally put two $20s on the counter and said to give them to the other mechanics for lunch. He laughed and said OK and I left. Now how many garages would do that for you when they know there was little or no chance for contunuing business from somebody? But that was consistent with the service I always had gotten from Baird,
