There’s a few things I look for in an auto mechanic, and 2nd Gen Auto exceeds expectations in all of them.
First up, reliability: Jay and his crew do solid work. Not just knowledgeable and skilled, they are detail oriented and—most importantly—honest. It’s not just their professional abilities I trust, it’s their personal character.
Secondly, price: Yes, they have reasonable rates for the routine stuff. Where they exceed expectations is how they put in time and effort to find me the lowest prices on the “oh-no” stuff—like when your car slides off your mother’s icy driveway in to a ditch and a tree takes out a side mirror. Jay took the time to find a replacement mirror for way cheaper then other shops in Essex
Thirdly, neighborliness: I don’t just love that 2nd Gen is around the corner from my house so I can drop my car off and walk home—this is admittedly a huge bonus! That’s sure make them convenient. But what makes them neighborly isn’t just their physical proximity; it’s that when I have a flat or an emergency, I can call Jay and he’ll send his crew right over to my house to fix it right away—just like any friendly neighbor would. I was in a rush to get to work that day, so they told me I could just stop by the shop to pay after work. (Granted, we had already built a relationship of trust both ways…and, obviously, they literally know where I live ?)
These guys are solid mechanics, no question. But what seals the deal for me is that these are good people, good neighbors. There is no question they care about my car and about doing excellent work—but I also know they care about me.
Second Gen was able to get me in very fast & did super quality transmission & body work, for a great price! Robert welded in a new patch panel which looks great, now all I have to do is bedline it. 100% recommended shop, avoid the stealership if you can & support awesome & local business.
I really owe these guys a big Thank You! They saved me hundreds over another shop and got me right in. That was my first experience with 2nd Generation Auto. Since then I brought my other car, my Grandsons car and my son’s car to them in the last month. I just retired after 30 years in the car business. I know a good Service center when I see one. This is the spot! I do most of my own mechanical work which makes me very picky on who I bring my vehicles to when I need something outside of my realm done! Not only was I pleased with the work preformed but the positive attitudes and the willingness to go above and beyond! Had a wheel bearing go an hour away from home and they moved me to the front of their busy schedule due to the fact I had no where to go while working on my truck! On top of all that they even took care of two other issues I had been wanting to do but kept putting off due to personal time constraints! Awesome shop, great ownership, knowledgeable and hardworking mechanics!
I can’t speak highly enough of Second Gen Auto! My car had broken down in Burlington one evening and they were able to get me in right away the next morning. I live about an hour south of Burlington, so I was pretty concerned about what to do with the car. My starter had died on me and they luckily had everything needed to get it replaced. I’ll be honest, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to find anyone in the Burlington area who could look at my car and fix it on the same day. Not only was my car back up and running beautifully within less than 24 hours, but they were so incredibly kind and accommodating, especially on such short notice. Mike was really helpful on the phone and everyone else in the shop was great. I was told they’d have my car looked at and ready same day and they really followed through. Their service is top notch and I’d 100% recommend!
Be very weary when going here, yes I got great service for my daughter's car, but brought mine in because mine had a really loud clicking sound coming from the passenger side front tire, and was told I needed front and rear brakes and new caliphers. I was very weary on that because I just had my brakes done. Took my car to another garage and found out I did not need any of that done. I just needed a pad replaced and a valve stem for my tire. I should have known that there was something off since it took them less than 30 minutes to inspect my car. I was almost out $1200.
Not on my life ever again. Owner is arrogant. Screwed up a simple brake job. I picked up the vehicle and drove off with extremely loud squealing brakes. Brought it back hoping for a fix but was told my attitude sucked. They had no problem putting 13 year old tires on my car but cried liability if I didn't replace the lower control arm. Steer clear of this shop like the plague.
Second generation auto was very profesional and knowledgeable. When taking my car there to be serviced they made sure that I understood the work I did and even showed me the damaged part and why they had to fix it. Very impressed with the staff and mechanics alike. Definitely going to use them more in the future.

Bought a car random I saw I liked, brought to work and started smoking badly… was a bad buy for sure but some reason I wanted to keep it. The techs there detail explained all the options I had to do and answered every question I had about it sence I have barely any knowledge of Audi’s. I highly recommend and I will def be coming back. Good environment and good people, and i can ensure you it be the same at the other shop
Moose and Tristen at second gen took great care of me, while Tristen kept me in the loop about everything providing in depth pictures of what they were doing and what the issues were moose was hard at work getting my car back to normal. I appreciate these guys fast, efficient, and excellent work. I’ll be a returning customer for sure!!
Extremely knowledgeable and personable. Tristen found out the cause of an ongoing issue that prior mechanics could never diagnose. Our 2014 Toyota Prius is running like new now!
