What clients say about Joe’s Master Service Center in Edinburg (TX)

I just got off the phone with a female at the location. She didn't let me speak. She kept on speaking over me. We were calling on behalf of our client. I was in no way being rude. I was trying to explain to her why our client was there without paperwork. She passed the phone off in the middle of the conversation and left me speaking. I do not think that is very professional. I would expect a little more professionalism.

I took my 2014 dodge challenger in after my ABS module died on me. I thought it was going to be a quick fix only to find out there was a shortage on parts manufactured and it was rare to find a used replacement that would work. I discovered this after taking it in, so it was a failure to research enough on my part. Joe had advised me of the situation and gave me options to consider. I chose to leave the vehicle until my part came in considering I had an alternate means of transportation. It took several months but Joe took care of my vehicle and when it was finally repaired; He ensured the vehicle was road ready and didn't just slap my part in and hand it back to me after sitting for a long period of time. The best thing is he kept communicating with me as time went by to inform me of updates with vendors and his shipments which was much appreciated.

UPDATE (Sept 9, 2025): This shop insisted the problem was only the rear main seal, because oil appeared to be coming from that area. They told us replacement was the only option, quoting around $2,000. What they didn’t know was that we had already replaced the rear main seal at a previous shop before coming here, and we only mentioned it after they gave us the quote. We had already spent $1,400 on that repair, which turned out to be wasteful because it wasn’t the real cause of the leak. Oil can flow down to that spot from other sources, but they did not provide a thorough diagnosis beyond lifting the car and charging a diagnostic fee. In reality, another certified shop correctly identified the true causes: the intake gasket, oil pressure switch, and intake manifold O-rings. These parts were much cheaper and easily fixed, and after just a 3-hour repair the warning light is gone and the leak is completely resolved. The rear main seal was never the problem, and it is a far more expensive part to replace unnecessarily. Looking back, every choice comes with lessons. But I want other consumers to be aware: at this shop, you will be charged a diagnostic fee no matter what, and that fee may not result in a helpful or accurate diagnosis. For complex issues like oil leaks, I strongly recommend going to a certified shop instead. —————————————————————— 9/7/25 Title: Incomplete diagnosis for a complex oil leak; got a better second opinion Review: We moved to the RGV from another city in Texas. In our previous city, we had a trusted mechanic for years, so we value honest and thorough service. Our issue: a difficult oil leak that could be the rear main seal (between the transmission and engine). We specifically asked the shop to check the PCV valve and other possible sources before assuming the worst. At this shop, the conversation focused on a diagnostic fee before any detailed inspection. We were shown photos of the parts they recommended replacing, but we did not receive documentation or photos showing that the PCV system or other likely sources were tested. Update (Sep 6, 2025): We visited another shop today. They explained their process first, did a clearer evaluation without pushing paperwork up front, and walked us through alternative causes. Based on our experience, if your leak is complex, consider a certified shop that documents what they checked (PCV, valve cover, oil pressure switch, etc.). Our visit here felt incomplete, and we chose not to proceed.

We moved to the RGV from another city in Texas. In our previous city, we had a trusted mechanic for years, and my uncle is also a mechanic overseas. So I know the value of honest and thorough service. Our car issue is complicated: an oil leak that could come from the rear main seal, which is located deep between the transmission and the engine. We specifically asked the shop to check the PCV valve and other possible sources to be sure, not just lift the car for a quick visual inspection that anyone could do. We visited this shop once, hoping it could become our main auto shop. However, the experience was frustrating. The shop was defensive about other opinions, mainly focused on charging diagnostic fees, and only showed pictures of the parts they wanted to replace—not of other areas that should have been checked. If your issue is something complex like an oil leak, I recommend going to a certified shop instead. Don’t be misled by a few good reviews. In our case, the diagnosis was incomplete and potentially misleading. I will keep posting updates.

Our local mechanic in Elsa said his diagnostic equipment wasn't equipped with level needed to access sensors that kept coming on during a recent road trip. He suggested we get another opinion or consider taking in to a Ford dealer. Our 2016 Ford Fusion has been a really good, reliable vehicle without any major issues since our purchase. I remembered hearing about Joe's Master Service on the radio a long while back so decided to Google and placed a phone call. We called and were given a price for a diagnostic check which we figured was overdue. Called in following day only to find out that sensors hadn't lit up when driven by their mechanic. I asked if they could perhaps drive it further and keep it for a few days, which turned out better results. Apparently cars alternator was going out, hubs on front tires needed replacement. I don't know about you but once sensors start to light up on your dash, you're silently praying nothing happens while you're driving to and from. Albeit, it was a little pricey, but has now been @3 weeks and our Fusion is running like brand new! My husband and I agreed that investing in a Master Mechanic is investing in piece of mind!! Thank you all at Joe's Master Mechanic, our new go to shop for our automotive repair needs!!

1,250 to change a starter and do a diagnostic test. Then they didn’t do a diagnostic test and they screamed at my mom.

I took my nissan frontier that supposedly had an electrical problem. Joe's Master Service Center went trough all the troubleshooting steps and found it was a mechanical issue. No throwing parts at the problem hoping it would fix the issue. It was done the right way the first time.

Great people! Great family! Great business! So glad I came to them to fix my car problem. I’m not from the area and had to google mechanic for hybrid cars. They were available and were so nice. It’s a family business which makes it the perfect combination plus the original owner( 90 years old) is still there and that says everything you need to know about this place. They were efficient, professional, fair and very friendly. Don’t go anywhere else!

No absolutely would not recommend, called to get a quote Joe kept interrupting had to ask to please just let me finish what I was saying regarding the parts since I didn’t want the shop to order the wrong ones. Joe thought I had already purchased the parts and wanted them to do the labor. Still let it past me and got a quote of $1755.63 for replacing control arms for an Audi, the parts which I provided the part numbers for Joe they are priced with taxes at $334 and same exact parts that Joe wants to quote are $474.77 I don’t understand why there’s a need to overprice the exact same part/sku number by $140.77 called a different shop and got a better quote of 784 for the exact same things and they’re going to order the parts also from autozone without overpricing by $140 highly recommend the other shop at Velocity Lube. Joe word of advice let your customers finish talking and there’s no need to be this money hungry and over charging on parts by that much. Also the parts he quoted me are from autozone that I gave Joe and the other shop is giving me same warranty as well since the warranty is through autozone. *************** Updating Review for Clarification My reply is as follows, I never stated I was bringing the parts and you were interrupting I stated I know what parts you need and asked what vendors you used you kept ASSUMING I was bringing the parts I kept clarifying and even asked you to please let me finish what I had to say. The quote I received from another shop was with the same exact parts from autozone that I provided you the sku and part numbers lol that you needed everything was handed to you I made it so simple for you to give me a quote and you still overpriced the parts. I also would not have wanted a wheel alignment done at your shop because yes I did just have an alignment done less than a week ago and the mechanic I go to charges $100 for an alignment.

Need to work on letting know customer what will make a charge. No just do it and charge. Added: "Not a ghost. I did went for An alignment a while back. Instead I was told it wasn't available because other issues and was charged without my knowledge for the check up. Reason complaining know cause some one else went thru the same thing somewhere else and told me that if its not on my knowledge shouldn't be charge. Short story tell just tell your customer you will do unauthorized check up that will be a result of a charge."

Terrible experience from start to finish. I had to return because they did not do the job correctly the first time. Instead of apologizing or fixing the issue professionally, their customer service was rude and completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, an employee screamed at my mother—absolutely disgraceful behavior. This kind of treatment is inexcusable. I will never go back, and I strongly suggest others think twice before doing business here.

Joe (the owner) got me in very quickly. Be asked some questions and saved me money on duplicate testing. Joe and his mechanics stayed right on my job and fixed all that was wrong with my A/C for 1/3 the price of KIA. Works great now! Super pleasant people and I highly recommend them for your auto needs.

Always does a great job!! Tops in customer service and work/labor on our cars. Been taking my cars there for over 25 years!

Wanted to charge me triple what parts cost and about 4 hours of labor to do a 45 min job. Be careful with this shop. After initially thinking they were honest I looked up the actual pricing on the exact parts they were suggesting. Close to $2k in parts that I found for less than $500 online lol. That’s why no one trusts mechanics.

Joe took the time to show me my filter that needed to be changed and explained how they take photos now to show the customer. I know it was the inside of my car and my tires in the pictures he presented because I check daily to make sure kittens are not inside before I leave the house. No other service center does this. The week prior I took my elderly mom to change her oil to a place of her choice and they told her she needed a sludge drain and all sorts of other things done costing her over $200 we have the same car but my moms is a year newer than mine. I have been going to Joes since 86 and will continue to go. They are honest and have great prices. If you want to get charged for things you don't need, go to pop up shops, if you want to get the job done right, go to Joes. Thank you Joe.

My daughter took her car to Joe’s Master Service Center because it kept turning off while she was driving. She mentioned that and the warning lights. Joe ran a diagnostic and told us there were a lot of trouble codes. He said he cleared them and that the car was running fine now, blaming the codes as the cause of the issue. We also requested an oil change, mentioning the last one had been done 3 months prior and were concerned as to why we needed one so soon. When we picked up the car, we noticed the warning lights were still on. Within a few days, the car shut off again while my daughter was driving. We took it to another mechanic who immediately identified the issue: a damaged crank sensor caused by an oil leak from the valve cover gasket. Joe never mentioned anything about an oil leak or a faulty crank sensor—both crucial issues that should have been caught. When I called Joe to discuss this, he was extremely aggressive, loud, and wouldn’t let me speak. I explained the situation, and he lied, claiming he had told me about the oil leak—which he absolutely did not. His behavior was rude, unprofessional, and dismissive. When I asked for a refund, he laughed and said there was “no way.” I will be pursuing a chargeback through my credit card company. I strongly caution anyone considering this shop—especially women—to be very careful. Joe overcharged us and did little (if any) actual work. The experience was deeply frustrating and disappointing.

Mr. Joe Garcia is very nice and always very positive. It's this attitude that tells one that he and his staff can and will get the job done. Always a pleasant and positive experience getting work done at Joe's Master Service Center.

I cannot say enough about Joe & his team! His skill, transparency and exceptional service shines brightly, amid challenging circumstances. During the flooding, at the end of March, he went ABOVE AND BEYOND to help us. He is professional and efficient. I highly recommend Joe’s Master Service Center. Thank you, Joe!

Good, reliable mechanic that won't try to upsell you service. I recently took my Dodge Caravan in because after troubleshooting it myself, I narrowed it down to 2 items. A bad wiring harness or a bad computer. I brought it to Joe's and after explaining what I'd already done, he had his guys hook it up and check it out. He understood my trouble-shooting and agreed I had done the proper steps up to bringing it to him. He told me they should be able to get it diagnosed within an hr. His 1hr diagnostic fee is $169 for the 1st hour and he was upfront about telling me they would let me know if they needed more time. His guys came back saying it was a bad computer and Joe even recommended a website I could order one from. Said he'd never had issues with them and their computers. I thanked him and a few weeks later I managed to order the ECM from the recommended site (Flagship One), and I was able to plug and play the device with zero issues. Thankfully, Joe saved me a step and some money by pointing out the issue so I didn't have to deal with changing the wiring harness.

Quality work! Loyal to his clients and honest. We went to three other auto repair shops, and they couldn't figure out the noise from where it was coming from that was related to the power terrain. Guess what, Joe's Master Service diagnosed the problem, fixed it, and the noise stopped.

UPDATE!!! Just had my alignment done I work in Midland, TX, which is 533 miles one way, and for a total of 4 trips a month. A few days ago on my way back, a heavy thunderstorm came out of San Antonio. My car was all over the road I thought I was going to lose control with heavy rain and other cars passing me like I was standing still, I knew something was not right I had brand new tires so I brought it to Joe, and he found my alignment was all messed up he fixed the problem and even gave me a quote to get my rear tires alignment to spec. I also asked for the LIFETIME alignment imagine not having to pay for a 200-dollar alignment as long as you own your car he recommended every 3000 miles hell I put those miles in 6 trips to work. Unheard of value, I also asked for an oil change and if you look at a review by a customer a few reviews down Mrs. Santos is WRONG each car has a manufacturer recommended oil this is not a Shade Tree mechanic shop where they are going to put just any oil that is not recommended by the manufacturer JOE WILL NOT RISK DAMAGING YOUR ENGINE !! YOU WANT TO SHORTEN THE LIFE OF YOUR ENGINE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE, When I asked for an oil change that was it NO WHAT KIND OF OIL DO YOU WANT THAT'S STUPID cause I know my car takes full synthetic but not everyone knows what oil their cars or trucks take NOT ALL OIL IS THE SAME !! and JOE WOULD GO BY WHAT MY CAR'S manufacturer REQUIRES AT EVERY OIL CHANGE INCLUDING THE FILTER and straight up he put exactly what it required without me having to say a word this man is not only a Master Mechanic he CARES AND IS HONEST. THANKS, JOE you're Awesome!!! When you come here, you get the owner's personal attention. He and his crew do it all: engines, transmission, brakes. The latest computer diagnostics. That way, you know what's wrong with your car before you decide to fix it. If you're tired of going to shops and having to go back again and again because they can't fix it the first time. Well, don't worry NO GUESSING HERE!!!

I've been going to Joe's Master Service Center for years for annual vehicle inspections. They've always done a prompt and thorough job. I've always been welcomed and given great service. Joe's also offers all kinds of car repair and maintenance work. While I've not required those services so far, I would not hesitate to take my car there. I've observed how they deal with other clients and have read the reviews from years-faithful clients who trust Joe's to do excellent work at a reasonable price in good time. Joe's also is an official U-Haul rental dealer. As you drive up, you will see some of the various trailers and trucks they offer. Now, if you're looking for a shop that has an air-conditioned waiting room that serves tea and petit fours and offers you a manicure, you need to adjust your expectations or go somewhere else. The waiting area is often open to the outside, has a fan, some sturdy wooden benches, and a TV to keep you occupied. What decorations exist have a biker / Elvis vibe (cool with me!). But if you want excellent service at a reasonable price from a trustworthy and qualified mechanic whom you can trust, look no further. If you intend to pay with a credit card, be aware that there is a sign that clearly states there is a 3.8% convenience fee on every credit card transaction. This fee recovers their cost of processing your credit card and helps keep their prices lower for those paying cash.

I went in for a state inspection which this place charges $7 for and a $2 fee for using a card. When it came to paying after the service was done, the employee at the desk walked over to her “dad” and they were reviewing something on the little machine that takes card. She didn’t address me about anything, instead she then walks up to me and explains that she accidentally charged me for a previous transaction from a previous customer, which was for $308.25!! She continues to say that she refunded it and the money would be back into my account by Tuesday if not sooner. Anyways, it’s the weekend so of course I had to wait long, this was on a Friday. I was upset because 1: how did she not see that she was charging me that amount? 2: she could’ve advised me about the issue, but instead ran to daddy to tell her about her mistake. 3: She did not apologize, just said she made a mistake and fixed it. The least they could’ve done is refund me the cost of the inspection for messing up, instead they just refunded me what was overcharged. Bad service!! I was really upset on that because like everybody, we have payments to make. This was not a $20 extra mistake charge, it was about $300!! They could’ve refunded me my money by cash instead, thanks to them I missed a payment that will somehow affect my credit (like they could care any less). If you go to this place MAKE SURE THEY DON’T OVERCHARGE.
