good to get rid of glass and plastic bottles but, if the city would hire people to sort ALL plastic then people would bring allot more there and landfills wouldn’t get it all, In a perfect world yes people should sort it all themselves but allot of people are busy making a living, maybe the city will make progress and make it easier to recycle, but yes what few things you can bring make a difference, just allot of plastic bags and other stuff will end up in landfills
This is a clean facility but the people that work here are super rude and lazy!!! Maybe think about hiring people who don’t yell from the building or their cars!!!
There's an employee with dreadlocks who sits in his car and yells at you if you don't pre-crush cardboard boxes down before putting them into... the giant machine that crushes the boxes down with a pneumatic smasher. If the box fills up, he has to come out of his warm SUV and press the button to crush boxes. That's a lot of work compared to sitting in your car and yelling from your rolled down window. I really ruined his day by not completely breaking down the boxes before tossing them in the crusher. He had to get out of his car, get in my face, and prove he was a big man by throwing some of the boxes I put in the smasher back into my car. All while yelling and threatening me. It was pretty wild considering the wind was blowing the boxes everywhere and I was just trying to do recycling before it blew everywhere. Completely unacceptable behavior.
If you want your day ruined, come here! They will harass the EVER LOVING CRAP out of you for recycling!!! I'm a Hamilton County resident and a military veteran! I'm employed in Hamilton County and I pay my taxes! Neither me, nor anyone else here, deserve to be harassed by these people.
My family just moved here... How are we to change residency in just a few days?
"For many tax and legal purposes, the state of Tennessee will consider you a resident if you spend more than 183 days or 6 months out of a 12-month period there."
Disabling people from recycling for such an asinine reason is part of the reason mildly-environmentally conscious people would rather choose not to recycle. Who cares where they are even from? The point is to get MORE people to recycle... This hinders that. Change my mind.
Completely harrassed by one of the employees taking pictures of me and my vehicle and THREATENED TO REPORT ME DIRECTLY TO THE MAYOR. She said my vehicle's tag is from out of state and it's only for Hamilton county residents. I told her I have proof of residence, light bills, lease, etc. and said I was happy to show that. She kept saying.. "well, we go off the tags and she pointed to the sign." THE SIGN SAYS NOTHING ABOUT CAR TAGS!! It reads.. For Hamilton County residents only- which I am. She kept saying..."how you gonna have a tag from another county and live here?" This is an absurd idea, and Chattanooga wants to pride itself on bringing new people to the area. Changing a car registry is a process and moving is a process. This lady took multiple pictures of me and my vehicle. She kept repeating the same thing over and over about a car tag and that she was going to let her people know. I told her. Report me to the mayor. Please. Report me. Call your manager now. Please. Here's my parking pass for my apartment downtown. She told me.. ' you'll have to take it up with them after continuing to take her ridiculous pictures." As a school teacher, tax payer, and Hamilton County resident, I have never been so unneccessarily harrassed in this city that I pay plenty enough to live in. AWFUL, UNNECCESARY EXPERIENCE ON COMPLETELY NICE SATURDAY FOR THIS TEACHER.
This is our regular recycling center, and we've been treated very poorly by one of the employees. Every time we are there she comes literally running out of the building to yell at us for.... recycling? Our car (next to other parked cars) is in the wrong place. We aren't allowed to put trash in the trash dumpster. Etc, etc. The harassment from this woman literally prevents us from recycling, as she is so abrasive and rude. We are rule followers who work hard to recycle correctly, and she treats us so poorly. Don't come here unless you want to get yelled at!
They could be throwing away all the stuff in the end but it feels nice to recycle it regardless. Typically self serve but staff has been preemptive and nice whenever I've had a question or sorted something incorrectly.
Super easy to get in and very helpful staff. My son and I came with a van full of cardboards backed up the van took a shopping cart they had on the side and toss the cardboards into the recycling bin only took 7-10 mins. We will be coming here more often.
The employee there when i went was enthusiastically helpful and thankful for my question about whether blue glass is put in with the green (it is). The facility is well-laid out and easy + fun to use
The employees yelled instructions from the porch instead of walking out to assist. She thought I was throwing away paper bags in the garbage cans while I finished dumping glass before returning to the mixed paper aisle. At 46 and sunny, it's not a rough weather day.
Great place to recycle! I spent all of 2 minutes there. I thought I would have to sort through my bag myself, but one of the attendants was even helpful enough to have me leave my bag and told me that they would sort it all.
