I have (had) a transmission issue with my car which was originally purchased from him so he knows what kind of car i have. Anyway, he was supposed to diagnose my transmission issue for me and give me an estimate on how much it would cost to fix. a month goes by after him getting my car to diagnose and I hear nothing back. So i give him a call, he says he’s been busy at doctors appointments etc which is understandable BUT at least let me know that you aren’t going to be able to diagnose my car in a timely manner. Again, weeks go by and I don’t hear anything. Finally after we reach out to him again, this time he says that he does not have the tool to even diagnose my car in the first place…… so all this time i was waiting for nothing. After hearing this, I went to his office in person and asked for him to just tow it back home for me but be offered to take it to another shop for me who does have the right tool. So I agreed bc I wanted a diagnosis, that was the whole point. Weeks go by again, so i call the other shop and ask if he brought them my car. They said yes but they hadn’t gotten to it yet. I reiterated to them that I only wanted a diagnosis on it and they replied “yes ma’am”. Weeks go by again, he called my grandma saying it was ready. So I called him and asked him for an update and he says that it’s fixed and cost almost $2,700. Keep in mind I only asked for a diagnosis so I wasn’t expecting this at all, only a couple hundred at the most for the diagnosis and towing. His excuse was “well i was under the impression that if it was worth fixing to fix it.” And that the transmission had to be opened to diagnose it and it didn’t make since to not go ahead and fix it while it was open. I understand if this was the case BUT he could have at least called and informed me and asked me what i wanted to do bc ultimately its my car and i’m going to be paying for it so unless he’s gonna be paying for it, he shouldn’t have had it fixed without my permission or knowledge beforehand. Moral of the story he lacks communication skills. The car is in my name, i’m the only one who can make that decision regardless of his “impressions”. Did i want my car fixed eventually? Yes! BUT not right now as my husband and I are financing a home and don’t have the extra thousands of dollars to fix it right now which is why i only asked for a diagnosis. Now im stuck in a situation where im going to have to somehow come up with $2,700 so that I can get my car back for work that i didn’t even ask to have done right now. I did tell him on the phone that i wasn’t mad that my car was fixed, it’s just not what i asked for and i wasn’t expecting a big bill like that all of a sudden. It was just honestly disrespectful to me that he would take it upon himself to make that decision and then leave me with a big bill. I assume that he’s not going to take accountability for this, which is why i’m leaving a review. I don’t want to cause a big fuss but i won’t be doing anymore business with him after I get my car back. He should not have taken my car for a diagnosis in the first place if he didn’t even have the tool to diagnose it, he knew what kind of car I have bc he sold it to me. The only reason we reached out to him in the first place is bc of my last experience at the ford dealership, same thing happened there…. took my car in for a diagnosis and estimate for different issue and they ghosted me for a long time then finally got in touch and they said my car was fixed and ready… I’m tired of auto mechanic shops taking advantage of people. I’m honestly slightly traumatized from these experiences and don’t trust car repair shops anymore. I’m scared it’ll happen again. Next time my car breaks down i’ll just have to take up mechanics and fix it myself jk but hopefully I get my car back and it lasts a long time i would hate to have to go through this again anytime in the near future especially now that I have a son and i’m mom I shouldn’t be treated as i have previously. I bet if I was a grown man, this situation would have been completely different.
Was traveling through this area to go camping. My check engine light came on while pulling my camper. Found them on google and gave them a call. Told me to bring it in and they’d see what they could do. They worked quickly and I was only there for about an hour. Charged me a fair price. I can’t ask for more than that. I believe they’re trustworthy and would use them for all my maintenance work if I lived in the area.
