This was genuinely one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve had with a company. I understand vehicles get towed — that’s not my issue. The problem was the complete lack of communication and professionalism.
Before heading over, I called twice during their posted business hours to confirm I could retrieve my vehicle and let them know I was on the way. When I arrived at the location listed, the office was closed and completely unattended. After calling again to say I was there, I was told that since it was Saturday, no one was working — despite their business hours clearly indicating they were open.
It’s unreasonable to tow vehicles, list business hours, confirm by phone that someone will be there, and then have no one available when customers arrive. This caused unnecessary stress, wasted time, and additional inconvenience that could have been easily avoided with accurate hours or clear communication.
I strongly recommend verifying availability in writing before making the trip.
My first time using the towing company, but won't be my last. I would recommend to anyone, very professional and polite. The cost was very reasonable and affordable you won't go wrong.
My vehicle was towed without any signs posted anywhere on the property, which is required by state law and city ordinance. Then I was given the run around about who was responsible for the tow when I presented JG Towing with this fact.
Tell me how it is ok to tow someone who has paid to park, charge them to get their car back, then when speaking to the customer on the phone you hang up? This outfit is a joke. Their reasoning for towing is not permissible in the State of South Carolina.
***** Update: The owner, Tony, personally called and refunded the drop fee. He was incredibly polite, kind, and professional — and not the person I originally spoke with during the ordeal. Tony truly listened, sympathized with my experience, and apologized for what happened. He also said he planned to address the situation with the employees involved and make sure everyone is reminded of the proper laws and procedures. I could tell he genuinely cares about his customers and the reputation of his business. Because of how he handled things, I’m changing my rating — not to erase what happened, but to recognize that Tony went out of his way to make things right. His professionalism and compassion meant a lot and really stood out. ******
Full disclosure: I was parked illegally — there were signs posted. However, the business had a handwritten sign stating they were closed for business at that location and even listed a separate address for package deliveries.
I was parked there for about 3.5–4 hours while working across the street when a tow truck arrived. I ran over and said, “Hey, are you here for my car? I know there’s a sign, but the business says it’s closed so I thought it would be ok. I’ll move right now though!”
The driver told me he needed to hook up my car because that was “the law,” but said if I could get permission from the business owner, he might be able to do something. I asked why I would need permission from the owner if the business was closed, and asked if he had a number I could call. He said no, but then claimed it must have been the pizza place next door that called.
He told me to check with them, so I said, “Okay, hold on a minute — I’ll be right back.” I ran into the pizza place and asked if they had called the tow company. They said no. (All of this took maybe 20 seconds total, literally). When I ran back out, I saw the driver backing up to my car.
I said, “Hey, hold on! Let me talk to someone — do you have a number I can call?” He replied, “No ma’am, but legally I have to hook the car up if I’ve pulled into the parking lot. Once I’ve hooked it, I can release it to you for a ‘drop fee.’”
Long story short, I watched as he hooked up my car and then there was a drop fee.
Afterward, I checked Charleston’s towing laws (§19-329) — and according to the law, they lied. Here’s the actual law:
From Charleston Code of Ordinances § 19-329 (Drop Fee / Release of Vehicle):
“If the owner or driver of the vehicle arrives before the vehicle has been removed from the premises and the vehicle has already been connected to the tow truck, the tow truck operator shall release the vehicle upon payment of a drop fee not to exceed the maximum allowed by this section.
*** If the vehicle has not yet been connected, the vehicle shall be released without charge.”***
Under Charleston City Code § 19-329: A towing company must release a vehicle without charge if it has not been connected to the tow truck when the owner arrives.
Additionally, § 19-327 makes violations of these provisions a misdemeanor offense, subject to enforcement by the Charleston Police Department.
I stopped the driver before any equipment touched my car or even placed under my car for that matter. He only hooked it after convincing me to walk away — making the charge illegal.
Yes, I acknowledge that I was parked illegally, but I was willing to move immediately. The drop fee was “only” $97.50, but this is about principle. That’s my $97.50 — and every other person’s — who’s been taken advantage of and who trusted the company to follow the law. Some reviews even mention cars lost for days or weeks while still being charged. Dozens of reviews report the same behavior, suggesting a potential pattern of misconduct.
Update: I am changing my 1 star to 4 stars. Tony the owner called me today, he listened to my complaints, and though I was still very angry, he was polite, patient and listened. I really appreciate his professionalism. He apologized for the inconvenience and assured me he would address this with his employees. He was kind and refunded me my money, as well. I truly appreciate him making this right, so I wanted to update my review and give him his due for correcting the situation. Thank you.
These people are theives. My daughter was getting into her car they had not even reached her car. But refused to let her go. He lied and said he had it on video, that they were there first. They are nothing but crooks.
They had to get my son’s car out of a difficult spot, but did it perfectly. The young woman who was so helpful to me on the phone and arranging for the insurance carrier to pick up the vehicle was superb!
Super experience with this team: car broke down and was towed by another dealer...who didn't return to pick it up for a whole day:( Called JG, asked fot help and paid the bill. When JG arrived the car had finally been moved so, without hesitating, he refunded the fee. No argument, just pleasant and kind. That meant a great deal. Thank you.
I broke down after dark out on Savannah Highway a few days ago. Waited hours for AAA...finally decided to give some local companies a call so I could get off the road. JG dispatch answered the call quickly and got me a tow within 15 minutes. My driver, Josh, had the perfect blend of knowledge, skills, and humor that immediately calmed what was a pretty stressful night. He even had the car shop's after-hours form ready to go and waited with me for my Uber home to arrive. If you're broken down near Charleston, give JG a call. They'll take care of you!!
JG Towing did a great job! They took their time and answered all my questions patiently. I had called another company before, but they were rude and almost twice the price. JG Towing kept me updated throughout the whole process, which I really appreciated. If you're looking for quality work at a fair price, I definitely recommend JG Towing. Kevin, the driver, was also fantastic. He explained everything clearly and made sure I felt comfortable the entire time.
My car was towed from Merchant apts even though it was on a no tow list. Should have never been touched, my awd suv was towed in park incorrectly. The damage is over $2500 due to damaging my drive train and this company is procrastinating making things right. After reading other reviews I am realizing this company is not reputable and the states attorney office should be advised also.

My daughter calls me upset that she has a flat tire and is in a parking garage. She changes to the spare and that was flat too. Being a parent of a college student, that is 12 hours away and I felt helpless. I called so many towing places and JG Towing came to the rescue. I can’t say enough about my interaction with the wonderful lady who answered and Joshua who went and got my daughter. My daughter was so relieved when he arrived and said he was so polite and courteous. They assured me she would be safe and she felt safe when they arrived. The cost for the tow was very reasonable. As an incident on Sullivan’s Island was occurring, the business van I was driving had an issue of its own. I called a company and got no response and then called JG Towing. Not only did they respond immediately, the driver, Kevin, continued to wait for an eternity to get onto IOP but subjected himself to a search as every vehicle coming or going was searched. Then he hooked up the van and awaited some more. He is paid by the job AND he never wavered or complained. Dispatch (I think his name was Will) was also exemplary in his response, patience, communication, and follow through. I would not bother to call any other company.
Will helped me get set up over the phone was able to pay the invoice online super convenient. Chris was the driver I was told by Will. He picked up the vehicle but I did not receive a text letting me know. Im okay with that as long as it got to its destination. Thank you
I was stranded on the side of the road in the middle of the night and was unable to get ahold of any other 24/7 towing company. Everyone was AMAZING! Amazing communication, customer service, and timing. Francois towed my car and called me to let me know he was on the way and when he was close. Truly wonderful people that work here.
I paid for parking through the honk app 6pm-7pm at 145 King St lot pre-setting parking up for my normal yoga class at 5:36 pm. JG towed my vehicle at 6:09pm. Tony G, told me over the phone towing occurred at 6:06 pm. Francois Juhen was at the front desk when I arrived to handle the situation and immediately rude and combative. He laughed and said there was nothing they were going to do about it and withheld my car until I paid. He also laughed at the name of my boyfriend who was there to drop me off and assist me with Tony on speaker. Tony G was on speaker in the back with Jordan and Bobby, and said “they can come back tomorrow and meet me when I’m there” threatening because we were disputing the situation. My car was not “impounded” until 7:18pm, I called the towing company 6 minutes before they even impounded it. SC also states they must accept all major credit cards which JG said they would not. Filing the complaints as they are a nasty predatory company probably doing this to everyone else. They are not BBB accredited but filed a complaint with the local agency and FTC.
The female that answered the phone on 11/22/2024. Was so rude get rid of her apparently she doesn’t like her job. I was so sweet and professional and here she comes with an attitude. When I called on 11/15/2024 the male was so professional and it was a great process. So I thought I should call back since my car was ready for pick up but that didn’t work out as I planned. I’ll take my money elsewhere.
I had an excellent experience! I called them for help, and they arrived quickly—much faster than I expected. Cory was professional, friendly, and made sure my car was safely loaded and transported to where I needed it. The entire process was smooth and stress-free, and the price was reasonable. Literally worthless this time. Tried getting help to have my camaro towed. They refused to go on base even with a sponsor. He said it would take too long even though I explained it would be no different than going anywhere else and then he hung up on me. I called back to try and explain again that coming base will not be an issue. We've done this several times. They would not listen, only wanted to argue about not wanting to come on base and how "it would take to long"? Should have answered the phone stating yall didn't have availability instead of grabbing all my info first before decline the service. I've used them 2 times before for my C6Z06 and my base model C6 corvette and had no issue. Needed them this time to move my supercharged camaro but guess I'll be using Holy City towing from now on. Ridiculous customer service.
JG Towing was amazing and affordable, my dispatcher was also very fast to call me back and dispatch! My driver, Dalton, was fast, communicative and very professional, even being kind enough to offer his own services on my vehicle! I will absolutely recommend this towing service to anyone who asks.
I was in a bind, traveling through town and got a puncture. It was late in the day and I needed a tow and they were able to get a truck out to me quickly and bring me to the service center I needed to get to to get the tire replaced. Driver was quick, efficient, safe, and friendly, very happy to help me out. I really appreciated the service they provided.
If you need a large truck towed, I highly recommend this company. Cheaper than elite for the heavy duty tow truck. I had this truck at the mechanic shop for awhile but the outside tire was blown and they were able to tow it without replacing it. The driver hugh was safe and experienced. Thanks for taking care of me today on such short notice.
Can’t say enough nice things about this towing company. Had an issue that a lot of other companies in the area didn’t want to help me with at 10 o’clock at night, but these guys came through so fast I’m still shocked. The Driver was friendly as can be. Let’s be honest tow truck drivers really don’t have the best reputation for being soft and cuddly, but this guy absolutely great. Took care of my little issue and I was able to get on with my evening.. thank you again great business
Just AMAZING! They made a bad day a bit better. Pulling my friend's damaged boat yesterday over the Don Holt and blew a tire on the trailer and limped into the Pilot store, making an already bad day even worse. They would not let us leave the boat there until we could get new tire and of course, no spare. So we called JG. Thank God! The dispatcher who answered couldn't have been more polite and understanding. Not what you typically get with a towing service. Hugh and his partner ( I didn't get her name) showed up within about 25 minutes,...I know right? It just got better from there. Hugh is a magician and I could tell right away that he assessed the situation and decided on the right plan to get this 24' boat & trailer on his flatbed. I was incredulous. The boat and trailer were bigger than his truck! No worries. Hugh and his partner were meticulous, checking and rechecking, ratcheting and securing the boat with the tongue of the trailer sticking far out from the end of the flatbed. I was so impressed the way he managed this situation and, he was as cordial as could be and answered any questions I had as he worked this large boat onto the smaller flatbed with precision. I never realized the skill and talent a towing driver would need but Hugh has it in spades. They towed the boat without incident despite having to negotiate some tight clearances with a string of lights across the road in our complex where Hugh had to use a broom to clear the lights from the Bimini top while easing the whole rig forward, and maneuvering under low hanging trees on the path to our boat ramp. Hugh is one cool customer, as they say and there was never a doubt in his mind that he was going to get this done. The boat was placed where we needed it and I thanked this crew profusely for the effort, skill & courtesy they displayed through this whole process. If you need a tow, don't hesitate and call JG!
This was the BEST towing experience I've ever had. No Joke, the Best!! I called to have my Jeep towed to Rick Hendrick because I hopped a curb on Savage Rd and I ruined 2 tires and bent a rim. JG dispatched a flatbed and the super wonderful driver was on his way, immediately. What??? I know. I was sure I would have to wait at least an hour-2 hours, I was wrong. They were there within 15 minutes. Wow. The driver was super sweet. Wow! Another Wow, the dispatcher was Wow, and the care provided to my car was Wow, Price Was Perfect. 5 Stars. I was broke down on I-26 in 94° weather and I pretty much melted to the Hwy. I called JG Towing and the dispatcher was Friendly and patient because I was hot and not happy. He explained to me what he was doing and why it was taken a little time to do. He said a driver could be to me within 30 minutes or so and gave me a fair price, I accepted!! The Driver actually got there with time to spare, and about 42 seconds later he had me hooked up and rolling out. His truck was really nice and clean. He told me about his new 2 week old baby girl and just seemed to be a friendly person. I would definitely recommend JG Towing!!
Two of your trucks blazed past me a few minutes ago while coming out of Moncks Corner. The speed limit was 50 and I know no one really follows those signs but these two trucks, that were both loaded with a car on the bed and another towed behind, were doing at minimum 65 but more likely something like 70 if not more. They were switching lanes and keeping pace with each other as they drove off into the distance like someone's life depended on it. Is there any reason to get these cars delivered this fast?
