The great thing about the Quadrangle is the many committees/activities available to participate in - Interaction with other residents is so meaningful.

The activities and staff are great and the recent renovations were very well done. The grounds are well kept and the ongoing landscaping is making a big difference. The food is constantly improving as the staffing is renewed.

I was there in April and then again in September after having knee replacements. PT staff was excellent. Entire staff was responsive. Highly recommend this facility.

I grew up in Haverford, lived in NY for some 50 years, and then in 2024 moved to Quadrangle where my parents had lived. The community is as I remember it: Gorgeous grounds, intellectually curious residents, and oodles of offerings, both physical and mental. The bulletin board(s) alone is enough to engage you. A strong GM who has bought in excellent senior colleagues who are addressing deferred maintenance and community enhancements. Oh, and I love my apartment and my garden.

It is wonderful that this corporate entity stepped in to salvage the deteriorating Quadrangle. Absent that intervention and infusion of a huge amount of cash, this treasure might not have survived. It looks great; has good amenities. The obviously well-to-do and well-cared-for residents seem to be content; location cannot be beat, but, in the long run, one cannot imagine a profit-making entity outperforming a well-run nonprofit in the provision of human services. An afterthought; I should, perhaps, have stressed the "well-run" proviso for nonprofits. Such entities may be a rarity. I did like what I saw of the Quadrangle.

There is much to like at the Quadrangle. Many activities, interesting, engaged residents, caring staff. The one downside for me is inconsistent food quality and lack of sufficient dining room staff.

I recently completed 5 weeks of rehab at the quadrangle after having a knee replacement. I can’t say enough good things about my experience. The best was having a room to myself. The physical and occupational therapy I received there was top notch. Special shout outs to Megan and Bryanna ( sure hope I have the names right!). It’s to their credit that I’m doing as well as I am. The nurses and CNA’s were the best. Very attentive and helpful. The food was great. A lot of great variety. Kim the social worker was great with communicating about discharge. Can’t really say anything bad about my stay. If you have to rehab-this is the place to go. I kindly thank you all for your help

We've been here nine years and coming here was the best decision we ever made. The Quadrangle is not a country club, nor a luxury cruise. However, we live amid beautiful, natural grounds, in the company of new friends and kindred spirits. Free from the chores of cleaning, shopping, raking leaves and shoveling snow, I've been writing, painting, swimming, hiking, listening to live chamber music, and discussing books and world affairs with thoughtful, intelligent, caring people. Healthful exercise, new friendships, stimulating social interaction, and the opportunity for all kinds of creative expression have made me feel younger, stronger, and more productive than I was before we moved to the Quadrangle, back in 2014. Even during the isolation of Covid, the ingenuity of the staff and the residents made us feel both protected and connected, through special "treats," televised exercise classes, zoom sessions, outdoor sing-songs, and meals delivered to our door.

Today I went to drop off a delivery. Mrs. Susan treated me so badly. I just asked if it was okay to drop off the delivery with her. And she was rude. Early in the morning, how sad that such miserable people drown.

They definitely need more CNA staff and staff to just answer phones. Staff were very, very nice but no one can be in two or more places at once, it's not fair to patients or staff.

The residents and the grounds are great. The recent renovations are excellent - very attractive and comfortable. Dining, particularly the consistency of the food and service, need work. When making changes in independent living processes and services management needs to more carefully consider the impact on residents.

My mother went into this disaster of a facility to rehab her knee and died of congestive heart failure and pneumonia. She NEVER saw a foc after her hemoglobin dropped below 6. Was promised a wound care doc would exam the bed sores that weren't prevalent before entering this "facility" but she NEVER saw that doc. Then they shipped her back to Lankenau with congestive heart failure and pneumonia after I made a scene and demanded she see a doc. They couldnt even tell me which doc was assigned to her (and Im POA) after being there for over a week. She died in less than 24 hours after getting to Lankenau. Thanks Quadrangle you all should be ashamed to call yourselves health care professionals....your neglect and uncaring nature killed my mother.

The greatest feature of the Quadrangle is the warm, friendly, and welcoming family of residents. Likewise, the staff are pleasant, willing and helpful. Being alone, I came here for purely social reasons, and , undoubtedly made the best possible choice. On campus, one has free access to concerts, lectures, movies, a multitude of intellectual and fitness activities, organized by the residents, an outstanding library, gardening, bird-watching, walking trails, either paved, or through the woods, and a beautiful arboretum of an environment. Moreover, there is easy access to local shopping and entertainment, and Philadelphia is within reach. If you wish to be in an intelligent, highly educated and active community, come here!

Quadrangle has an outstanding group of members who are very friendly, very well informed and interesting. Staff are trying to move toward luxury living/dining, but it will cost more. Needs Assisted Living section.

A fine choice for a senior residence, especially for those interested in the arts and cultural life. Founded by Quaker professors from nearby Haverford. College, there is a strong presence of those retired from academia. The welcoming and interesting residents are one of the main features of the Quadrangle.

Worse experience ever for my father. The food was terrible. It was either cold, not the right things he ordered, things missing or hard. When we complained, we were told to ask for a sandwich instead which he never ended up getting. The room was filthy. Water stains on the ceiling. Housekeeping did not collect the trash in his room for over 3 days. The best yet... They sent him home with covid, double pneumonia and sepsis. Literally 911 him to the hospital for evaluation the day they discharged him.

Poor experience. Father was verbally abused, physically abused with lumbar fractures due to staff not properly trained, over restrictive speech swallow analysis resulting in pureed food he could not eat (we only kept his weight maintained by bringing in foods they would not provide), poor response time to call button, lazy physician who never examined him. Shameful. Stay away! $ 571/day for what!

My Nana has been living at the Quadrangle for roughly three years. She has made some wonderful friends and had enriching experiences that make the cost worth it. However, since Sunrise took over, she can’t eat in the dining room with her friends, she has to consistently navigate around construction (she’s 91), and the movies and musical events the residents once treasured are on hold. I’m so saddened for my Nana and the community as a whole, as they depend on these events and structure (especially as winter approaches). I cannot recommend the Quadrangle as a place to live.

My mother is a resident at the quadrangle. While she enjoys the exceptional community and the resident -generated activities, she and her friends are appalled by the changes since Sunrise took over. Sunrise is so focused on attracting new younger residents that the current resident’s needs are completely disregarded. I no longer can recommend the Quadrangle. And beware of the rehab facility.

We had a great experience at the Quadrangle, where my dad was staying for rehab. The staff was attentive to his needs and the therapists were knowledgeable. I want to give a SPECIAL thank you to Lindsey, the social worker, for 'going above and beyond.' Her unwavering support and understanding throughout our journey was comforting and much needed. She treated us like family!

Quite simply, outstanding care given by people who have a heart for the best life your parent can have, no one is there just to pick up a paycheck. Having been through 2 other places in less then 2 months, that nearly killed my mother, I can say that she is only alive and healing because of the diligent people at every level, from housekeeping to aids, nutritionists, nurses, administration, etc... We have found a clean, beautiful, wonderful, safe place and are forever grateful for everyone at the Quadrangle ?

My wife and I quite literally give thanks daily for having found our way to this community. As all of the positive reviews stress, the personality of the residents is central to its delightfulness. They are warm, intelligent, witty— especially that!— , generous, interested, welcoming and (despite their many impressive backgrounds and accomplishments) unfailingly modest. The grounds are maturely lush, the buildings are quietly comfortable. Our two-bedroom apartment is airy and spacious and the corridors around it are kept clean and handsome. The exercise room is wonderfully equipped and the equipment is immediately accessible (I hesitate to post this lest it attracts lots of new residents, who thus might encroach upon my daily two-hour treadmill stint). . The immediate accessibility of medical staff is a blessing in itself and in its gift to one’s peace of mind. We’ve found the food to be just extraordinary, given the challenges of accommodating such a community. A look at a menu will show how varied are a given day’s offerings, but do be sure to turn the menu over to see the list of entrees that are always available. There are two dining options: an elegant formal dining room, and a grill which serves the world’s best hamburgers. The Quadrangle folks handle the staffing problems besetting all similar institutions about as well as they can be handled, with apologetic but intelligent prioritization, and with ingenuity— sometimes shifting, for example, to buffet service in the formal dining room, which has the happy benefit of enabling you to sample both the rack of lamb and the crusted cod. We could not be happier.

We have lived at the Quadrangle for six years. We continue to be impressed by the amazing life stories of the other residents, and we enjoy interactions with them. Interactions are easy through dinners with them or participation in a wide range of hobbies, lectures, trips, competitive games, and entertainment programs organized by residents. It is also easy to take care of your physical health at the Quadrangle. The library, fitness center and pool are excellent, and one can also enjoy walks on the beautiful campus or on trails through adjacent woods. The fitness director leads a wide range of activities. One can schedule doctor visits and routine tests at the on-site clinic, or physical therapy at the rehab facility. Living a safe and purposeful life here is much easier than when one is spending time and energy maintaining a residence. So many chores and concerns are handled by the staff, and the location is close to medical and commercial facilities. We feel fortunate to be living in the “lap of luxury” here at the Quadrangle.

My husband and I moved into The Quadrangle nine months ago and we already feel like it's home. Our apartment is spacious, light filled and looks out over manicured lawns and woods. I love walking the paved walkways and the trails in the woods. My husband, who relies on a walker, can get to the main part of the building through interior art filled hallways to the light filled painting studio housed in the old carriage barn of the estate. We both love swimming in the beautiful indoor pool. The fitness director here is excellent. Her classes are many and varied and she is always coming up with new ideas for her program. She teaches in a way that challenges everyone at their own level. We recently celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and held the party here in the manor house dining room, another beautiful part of this complex. The Director of Dining Services catered the event for us with delicious food and helpful wait staff. He made the sit down party of 30 seem effortless and all we had to do was enjoy ourselves. The residents have been very welcoming and we are enjoying the resident organized quality evening musical performances and lectures. Resident run daytime activities are stimulating and fun. If you don't find anything that interests you the community encourages you to start your own activity group. The Quadrangle community is nurturing, supportive, helpful and stimulating.We are very grateful that we are here.

My wife and I have been looking into local CCRCs for over a year. We finally narrowed our attention to three very well known facilities in the area. In order to better evaluate our alternatives, we placed refundable deposits with all three facilities. These deposits enabled us to join in on more activities and experiences than people with just a casual interest in these campuses. Although we were able to try out the food and some activities, our most important experience was meeting many of the current residents. After careful exploration and consideration, our choice was clear. The Quadrangle was a vastly superior choice compared to the other facilities. The major difference was the quality of the people who reside there. The population is diverse, intelligent, active and very involved. The amazingly full program of activities could only be made possible by the resident organized programs. Typically, a CCRC will have an Activities Program Director that will have limited availability and resources to organize and provide programs. At the Quadrangle, there are individuals and groups of residents that develop and nurture an extraordinary number of quality program activities. Additionally, the independent living population is extremely warm and welcoming. I have yet to pass anyone in a hallway or meeting area without receiving a warm hello and introduction. Although we have only been living here for several weeks, we are confident that we have made a very good and important decision.

The Quadrangle has a wonderful community. It's very easy to make friends; it's very welcoming. There are so many terrific people right here, and if you want to be alone you can do that too. The range of activities, the kind staff, the sense of safety and the really amazing and beautiful grounds with old trees and meadows and a pond makes this a wonderful living experience. It really feels like the fountain of youth. It's also very close to very vibrant cultural experiences, and shopping, and not far from the city.

My parents lived in the Independent Living portion of the Quadrangle until my father's health took a downturn and he was moved to the Oaks which is the assisted living part of the facility. The compassion and caring management and staff displayed is beyond compare. When Covid hit, my Mom couldn't visit my father for a few months due to state regulations. However, the staff worked to allow my parents to have daily phone/Skype contact until they could see each other. Both my parents passed away there and with each parent, the staff made a point to come into the room and say goodbye. I don't know if my parents heard as they were not conscious, but it meant a great deal to the family member who was with them. The facility is clean, and the staff is knowledgeable, compassionate and friendly to family members who visit. My parents loved them, felt so much at ease and part of the community there. I would highly recommend this place. UPDATE: 9/6/2021: With the positives, I do want to update on the negative. One thing I wanted the families of the residents to be aware of is regarding the refund the estate will get if your loved one doesn't survive longer than 5 years. There is a substantial buy in to become a resident. If they decide to leave (or pass) before 5 years, they would get a portion of their buy in back, with that portion decreasing each year until they wouldn't get any of their deposit back. That is totally understandable, however, if your loved one passes, you pay 2 months rent after their death which again, we didn't have an issue with. What we feel is unreasonable is that the estate (or former residents if they are still living) will not get the refund until after the apartment is rented. Not just the next apartment in the Quadrangle being rented, but the specific apartment your loved one was living in. Knowing that they would have to give a refund renting that specific apartment, I suspect they won't be in a big rush to rent out that apartment and will rent the ones that no refund has to be given first. It has been 8 months since my Mom passed and we have yet to receive the $26,000 refund that is due to the estate. It is frustrating as it is difficult to have closure when this is hanging over our heads and having to leave the trust account open. I know my parents signed the contract which I feel should have pertained to them in the event they chose to leave. However, they would still be there had they not passed away as they were happy there. I don't think it is right for the children of the deceased to have this hanging over their heads and not have closure when the reason they left was because they died. I personally don't think it is a good way of running a business when they don't have a line item specifically for any refund when the resident passes. The families deserve a little better than that. As far as the actual facility, I would give it 5 stars, but would give it a 1 star on the corporate side of it by making it difficult, emotionally, on families after their loved one passes.
