What a beautiful overlook. We also walked the cave, and it was awesome. My wife and I drove up from Pittsburgh and spent a couple of nights in the area. We will travel here again.
This is a very special place to me as I’ve been coming since I was very young. The loop trail is wonderful but be very careful with small kids. There is a small cave which you can get about 30’ back into and is cool if your not claustrophobic. Great views of the reservoir and has a nice picnic area with grills. Unfortunately, the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting and quite rundown the last time I went.
Nice views. Can also hike the trail but definitely start at bottom first and hike up so it’s easier o hike down. Trail is 1 mile sturdy footpath. Lots of kids and pet friendly.
It’s a great spot for a picnic or hiking. There is a vault toilet, no water available, and a spot with a beautiful view of the river. The park states that camping is not allowed.
Great spot for a scenic view. Beautful rock formations. Recommend taking the walk on the Rimrock trail starting near the Allegheny Reservoir. Well graded and we'll maintained, it takes you through the forest and alongside stunning rock formations. The final climb is on stairs through a narrow cleft in the rock wall. Not wheelchair friendly, but there are bathrooms at the bottom and put toilets at the top. Although the trail is about 1.2 miles long, we saw multiple preschoolers negotiating it happily. There are parking lots top and bottom giving you multiple options to access it. If you park at the top, you can skip the hike and still get the view. There are stairs to negotiate from that end as well. No admission fee or ticket required.
The only highlight of this place is the scenic overlook with a panoramic view of the Allegheny River. Place was not too busy for a weekend afternoon. The trails are unmarked (i.e. no red/blue paint or ribbons) and the paths can get confusing. Would not recommend for old people or toddlers/babies due to the steep climb, slipperry rocks, and narrow boulders where you climb the stairs. I completed this trail with my 1.5 year old child in a backpack with great difficulty and risk.
The view of the resevour was amazing, and the hidden stairs down to the bottom of the cliff face was a neat surprise. It was also cool to see how the rock face was layered by millions of years of geological deposits. Looking forward to going back!
First time visiting. Hubby and i had been to Jakes Rocks but not here. I am so happy that we came. This is amazing! We will plan another visit so that we can hike the trail.
Great, place to enjoy the views. Just a reminder though they have no drinking water available. The rocks can get slippery in the early morning before the dew drys off.
I've visited this place several times, and it's always beautiful. Nothing beats this place in the fall when all the leaves have changed. This was without a doubt the prettiest place I've been to view fall foliage.
This was a really cool vantage point to see the full colors and the Allegheny/Allegany River. The stone stairs that go down to the bottom of the rim are awesome but steep and narrow. Went with my wife and dog, we really enjoyed it. Recommended to anyone.

This is a must-see! Plenty of parking, but there are large wide stairs you must take to access the overlook area. The overlook itself is perched along the top of these massive boulders and spans a good-sized area. The view is gorgeous!
This was one of the best place in allegheny forest. It has easy to reach overlook. You can walk around the overlook or go down the rocky stair for some more views. For moderate hiking, you can go down to the beach area and hike back. Great views from both the overlook and the beach area.
Beautiful place to explore. The huge rocks make one feel tiny, and the view is spectacular. Hiking down the rock stairs may be a tight squeeze for some, and they're pretty steep, but this is a place I really enjoy visiting again and again.
Beautiful place! We took our 3 kids; 7, almost 4, and 1.5 year olds. It's definitely a little nerve wracking with the little ones, but we carried our youngest most of the time while the other parent watched the older two ? Lots of nice places for pictures, both of nature and family photos/professional photos! Lots of places to climb as well!
Incredible views, do yourself a favor and start at the beach and hike your way to the top. The kids absolutely loved the trails and playing on the rocks, the view at the top is worth the journey. Pictures don't do it justice. We plan on coming back again in the fall to see it when the leaves change. There's a well maintained picnic area at the top so bring a lunch. Just remember there's no trash cans so what you bring you have to carry with you back.
The view from the beginning of the trail is absolutely breathtaking! There's a map at the beginning and the end of the trail, at Kenzu beach I believe. The walking trails are decent in size, aside from the narrow steps, so it's easy to take little ones along as well!
One of my favorite overlooks in the ANF. The foliage in fall is spectacular. If you are able to, go down those narrow stone steps and do some exploring around the rocks! You just might find some more scenery as well!
An absolutely fantastic view nearly from the top of the parking lot. You do not have to hike to get this scene. I did take the stone steps into the valley to find beautiful sandstone cliffs, ferns, and fantastic fungi.
Chanterelles included (for you mushroom hunters, they were located on the path to the right at the bottom of the stairs)
This hike can be moderate to difficult depending on which way you go.
Right off of the stone staircase leads all the way down to the reservoir, this hike is extremely challenging on the way back up.
Left of off the stone staircase leads you into a medium to flat grade space with lots of rock spaces to climb and explore( fun for the kids).
Stunningly beautiful views and especially colourful in Autumn. A very well-designed lookout that makes use of the rocks to create a 'fort' like feel, with hidden stone stairs creeping between rock faces. Great exploring for adults and kids alike. Also, amazing to think that all that water is being held back by nearby Kinzua Dam. Free, big car park, picnic tables, maps.
Take a photo of the map before you start down the trail. Beautiful views from the top and a nice walk down to the Allegheny River for more pleasant vistas. Rock steps are very steep and narrow, but the trail was wide and clear. We passed families with young children and plenty of large dogs. There was even a wedding at the lower end of the trail.
