Stopped buy to drop off some stuff. Didn’t bother to weigh as just different types. A semi truck was in the way and someone that was taking a break got out of his car and directed me. Then when inside another helped me. Everyone I worked with were very helpful and just plane and simple cool.
Don't like the fact that it takes two weeks to get a check for old Automotive battery's not completely their fault But still makes it not worth it the employees are Good at their jobs and respectful creating a enjoyable atmosphere
My 1st time visiting Far West Metals in Tualatin.
Forklift drivers were courteous and helpful when I asked them where I needed to go to drop off some wire and an electric motor.

Pretty easy and usually quick to drop off recyclable metal here. Sometimes you may have to wait in line to unload. Unloading is done inside the building so no problem with weather.
I sell metal here a few times a week and I've never had any issues getting paid. The staff is not only knowledgeable and helpful but they have taught me a lot. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to sell metal.
The shop staff is great. But god forbid you ever have issues getting paid. I’ve been waiting on a check for over a month. The one person you can talk to is very rude.
I run a business, and I came here to exchange my copper for cash. I held up my end of the deal. And they are being very dismissive about holding up their end of the deal.
I get a lot of copper. I was trying this place out and it’s really a shame that whoever is running the payments has ruined that. I will never use them again simply because they won’t pay. And if you dare to ask them about it you will get attitude and no answers.
If they properly correct this issue, I may revise my review. But as of now I’m waiting on two checks. And I’ve already had to pay to have them reissue one.
All my mail gets scanned in and pictures taken at USPS. They never received it from far west metals. But they continue to blame the post office.
TLDR: this place is a scam and will take your scrap and not pay you.
This place is so shady and they are thieves. They seem really legit, everyone who you interact with seem just fine and the process is smooth…. Until it’s time to pay you. We are currently waiting on two separate checks from two different scrap loads; checks from them totaling over $1000 and they are nowhere to be seen. First check was sent over a month ago. Two weeks in it still wasn’t here, we called and basically got no answers other then it was mailed and there is nothing they can do. What they can do however is change me $12 to send it again. Fine. Send it again. TWO WEEKS LATER the replacement check still hasn’t shown up. They won’t give you any tracking so you can call USPS, they won’t let you pick it up, you can’t talk to the actual office. When we asked for the number of the office actually distributing the checks, the lady in the local office said “we don’t give out that number becuase then they would be getting calls off the hook all the time”. Oh… so sounds like there is a bigger issue here. Moving onto the next haul- During the time of waiting for the first metal haul to be paid, we went in and dropped off another load. That was two weeks ago and guess what- no check for that one either. The lady in the front office is useless and actually pretty rude considering none of this is our issue. What are we supposed to do? Ask for our scrap back? Spend hundreds in fees for them to reissue check after check? All we want is to stop scrap off and be paid for it. We hoped the first time was a fluke but clearly this is just how they do business. There is no way now a total of 3 checks have been mailed and none have made it. Suppose next step is small claims court. I’d take your scrap somewhere else…. Anywhere else. Cause there is a high chance they will take your scrap and never pay you.

Right after writing this I went though the reviews and looks like I’m not the only one who isn’t getting paid by these people. Also not the only one who thinks the lady in the front office is useless.
Funny thing is- the “owner” does respond to reviews but they won’t respond to anyone who hasn’t gotten paid…. Isn’t that interesting?

I have delivered here from California ones before. Delivering another load soon. Very professional staff and quick. They unloaded me on time and I was greeted with smile. When company employees are professional and knowledgeable, it basically mean its reflection of the Owners and Manager's providing with great training. This place was my go to for metal recycling, however I am no longer a customer. I had some wood blocks mixed in a metal crate, I was taking them out but I was taking too long and they were about to close. I was told to not worry about it and go ahead to the scale and get my check. A couple days later i went there, and the same employee came up to me shouting and being incredibly rude. Told me I was now on the no buy list, and to take my s*** somewhere else and to get my a** off the property before she calls the cops. It wasthe worst experience I have ever had at a yard and I was humiliated
Every othe employee has been nothng' but polite and helpful. I had been a regular there and now I am forced to go elsewhere Unfortunately because I live so close.
Patient, knowledgeable personnel,convenient weighing,loading..Employees are hardworking and helpful,My favorite recycler in the area..They know there stuff....Great place for the beginner or the advanced....Saw everything from small car to huge 18 wheelers....
Most of the employees are decent. They do have one guy there who’s super helpful and they’re a pretty straightforward when it comes to getting rid of metal.
Don't come here. Wrote me a receipt for copper at one amount and sent a check for two hundred dollars less. The manager said it was his employees fault but won't pay the difference.
This place is amazing, brought my metal down and they showed me how to sort everything and explained the process. The office person was very helpful about payment. Will come back again.
Wish I would have read some of these reviews before venturing there to sell them metal. I had a truckload of ferrous and non-ferrous metal. I've done business at Far West over on the Inner-East Side of Portland for years and I figured they were a serious company intent on buying metals from recyclers such as myself. At their East Side location, I had absolutely no trouble whatsoever selling them non-ferrous metals and having them mail my check to my post office box. I've never had my post office box listed on my driver's licence and have provided the same identification with my home address for years, yet still having my checks mailed to my post office box. I recently visited the Tualatin branch and was treated very indifferently as though I wasn't a part of their survival as a business. I walk in and after interrupting the lady at the front counter from making out with one of the floor-workers, I was disappointed with news that they wouldn't send a check to my post office box. I was told, rudely after I pressed that I've had them sent there for years, that I needed to leave. Understand, I wasn't being hostile or loud--she was. She was rude, angry and bitter for reasons unknown as I simply questioned the policy that was new to me. These people don't deserve business from any recyclers if they cannot learn to treat us with a some degree of courteousness. Calbag, Metro Metals and Schnitzers still know how to treat people--Does Far West think that there aren't other company's that buy metals. Indeed, Far West is the lowest paying of any of 'em. If this review steers even one person away from doing business there, my time won't have been wasted in writing it. Happy scrapping everyone!
Crooks, out to scam! I took in some clean aluminum wheels and one had a wheel weight on it, so they paid me mixed metals price which was .09 lb, vs. .49 lb for cast aluminum . watch out, they'll get ya!
You'll notice that they throw the non-ferrous in their pile real fast so you don't catch what rate they give.

We brought in some items to recycle and was issued a check, but as of today (2 weeks later) I still havent received a check, and now I was told it will take 24 hours to put a stop payment on the check and reissue a check. What a pain in the ass this has been. I would not reccomend taking anything in to this place to recycle unless you want to wair a month for your check.
On April 27th I sold $75 worth of non-ferrous metals to this company. I was told my check would be mailed out on May 2nd. I went into the office last last week to sell some just scrap steel and asked about it and verified all my information was correct. I still have not received a check from this company almost a month later. Because I have made a complaint about not getting paid they have now told me that I am no longer allowed to bring Metals there. I advise anyone that feels that customer service is important to stay away from this company. They have not paid me for metals they took from me. So unless you're okay with a company stealing from you stay away.
Friendly, helpful staff and very competitive prices if you are looking to recycle your scrap aluminum, copper, circuit boards, electrical wire etc.
Metal only at this location! No paper, plastic, cardboard, glass.
There are other disposal companies nearby that can take non-metal scrap. Or you can go to - Far West Recycling Lake Oswego, Far West Recycling Hillsboro, for non-metal recycling.
