Mark's is a place for good hard working mechanics at a better than fair price. He's been fixing my stuff for nearly 30 years. Of course all the diagnostic plug in stuff, but with regular vehicles especially GM products,,,,most of the time he can listen to it and feel it and tell you with 95% accuracy what the problem is. Also, if the repair is going to be above certain dollar amount, he will call and let you know and get the go ahead from you. + Remember Mark is an Engine Builder/Machine Shop !! "So Let it be Written." lol.
Just about 2 start a new company called the starting line on this you can keep everything that you came in with I know this man and he the best in USA he fixed NY ranger.
Stay clear of this shop for motor repair or engine rebuilding. Poor mechanic work. They make excuses vice doing good work. They ruined a new engine build. Charged me for new parts that were not actually used. When i picked up the motor it looked sloppy and i had a bad feeling. I took the motor to another machine shop to have it inspected and the result was sloppy work and even broken parts. Mark the owner did not think i would go behind his work. If i would have installed the motor it would have blown and I sm sure Mark would have blamed the insulation vice his sloppy work. Mark installed the cam wrong and broke a side crank main cap bolt and did not put the 2 rear pan bolts in but instead filled the holes with silicone. If I had installed the motor and tried to start it he would have blamed me.
This is a late review about 41/2 years late where I am still recovering from the absolute robbery this shop did to a young 18 year old long story short I bought my first truck for 6k it ran for about 6 months and dropped a valve seat it sat as I saved the money to do a 5k rebuild now I was young and didn’t pay any attention to reviews at the time. I dropped the truck off and was told it would be a three month job. It took about 8 months to get my truck back after “three mechanics died of Covid” once I had my truck back I came picked it up and drove home, on the way home I could hear at around 3400 rpm that the motor would make a ever so slight whistle or metallic scraping sound and if memory serves correct the oil pressure light dinged on and then disappeared but it was so fast I couldn’t tell what it was at first. Filled it up with good gas and drove home now when I say this thing was under powered I mean it felt like you had a damn lawnmower engine in it and he said he drove it for 500 miles to make sure nothing like this would happen… anyway fast forward a week the truck was used to get groceries and to go back and forth to work a total of 3 times and while doing so the oil light came on again so we called mark and took the truck upon his request back to the shop where he replaced the oil sensor for free and did the 500 mile oil change where he said and I quote “will make sure nothing is lose and it’s nice and tight” now on the 4th time on the way to work I was doing about 50 on the highway with my subs going when all of the sudden it sounded like one blew so I turned it down and by this time I was at my exit and I worked directly off this exit but when I realized it was my truck making the noise my heart sank and I pulled in and parked worked my shift called my grandfather for advice and was told it has a warranty on it and to try and make it home so I took the backroads and went home as thoughtfully as I could and I made it all the way to 2 blocks from my house and it proceeded to lock up and blow smoke so I got a tow. Now we are at home and I am livid but ok because there’s a warranty (again I’m 18 not much money and what I had was spent on this motor) so we call mark and let him know exactly what’s happened and he’s beyond rude acts like we have no idea what we are talking about and then proceeded to put us on the back burner for a week straight which led into two weeks which then we called a tow truck and sent the truck to him but as this truck was getting cleaned out with the little things that were in it I decided to look where there was oil leaking from because a puddle had accumulated under the truck with this 2 weeks so I go get my light and shine it up under the fender (trucks on 35’ with lift) and you guys wana know what I see? I see the damn valve cover gasket blown out the side of the valve cover IN TWO SPOTS!!!! so I pop the hood and sure enough all the bolts down the right side of the drive side valve cover are FINGER LOSE!!! I could literally wiggle the cover…… now again I’m 18 and this is ALL my money and even a grand of gift money so I take pictures and he gets the truck about a week later i get told “young dumb kid put his foot in it and drove it like a race car” guys this is a dodge 4.7 on 35’s this is a freaking hunting fishing grocery getter stock gearing like nobody is driving this that way but he denies the warranty when it was clear as day the metallic noise was because there was zero oil pressure because there was no vacuum… I’m 24 now with much more knowlage and know that this dudes just some dipshit that honestly crosses my mind every now and again for a proper ass beating he really put me in a position or struggle that again I am STILL in this economy recovering from… I should have went too court I know that know but I was only 18 and the “adults” in my life couldn’t have cared less and I wish I would have realized that… just trying to make sure nobody else suffers at the hands of life’s biggest coward and if he’s reading this you better watch ur back buddy. I’m not some kid anymore.
Where to start? Unprofessional in every aspect. Quoted my repairs to take 6-8 weeks. Took 21 weeks of me hounding just for it to get done, only to find out an additional $900 worth of work was done WITHOUT my knowledge or consent. Had I been informed, I would’ve had the money ready but go figure, I needed time to collect it. Mark then proceeded to barrage me and my wife with calls and threats of a lawsuit in less than a week. Do not go here unless you like getting screwed over.
He is always honest and never sells or does more than what he discusses with you. If there's ever an issue, they will call and let you know. Thanks, Mark and his crew!!
Needed help bending my scythe blade 10 degrees, mark and his crew did the trick and worked, plus free advice the scythe to cut needs to be razor sharp..my go to now.
So my mechanic took the engine to my truck to marks to be machined and prepped for rebuild in JANUARY. Mark has had excuse after excuse. Ranging from “he can’t find a crankshaft” to “im really behind”. Then the story went to the heads are done but not the block. What he really should be saying is that it’s racing season so he can’t be bothered to do the jobs he already took on because he’d rather be racing. My mechanic has been trying for two weeks to get the engine back. First excuse mark provided was its buried in the back come back tomorrow. Tomorrow came and then that excuse was he’s short handed and couldn’t get it out. Now it’s he’ll call when he gets it ready for pickup. It’s pretty absurd. However, my mechanic just confirmed that he finally was able to get the engine back and i okayed him to take it elsewhere.
My family and I have had Mark fix our vehicles for decades. He has always done great work for us. We appreciate him and his staff to get us up and running again. When your vehicle is broke . It makes you feel bad. I don't have a horse to ride to the grocery store. Lol! Mark will get a kick out of that. I'm blessed to know him and thank him for always helping me and my family. I took a short block here to be rebuilt, I picked up the block 4/1/22. after getting it home and inspecting I found quite a bit of metal debris in the engine. Mark told me it was shaving from the cam bearings! What? Why and fix it! I took it back And gave them a chance to make it right. I received my short block back again Friday 4/8/22 with more metal debris in it! This Mark said he did the work himself the second time and as soon as I opened the bottom end I see metal shaving in the piston! It appears not even the owner can assure you his work is good anymore! I'm fighting for a refund now as I have to get this redone because I cant trust Marks work and he won't refund me even with my proof. This is highly disappointing, this man is a race champion and record holder. He's better than this. All I wanted was a refund so I could go else where but he refused. Mark and his team has always done great work on my vehicles. I appreciate his kindness and professionalism greatly, and would not think of allowing anyone else to work on my families vehicles.
I took my block, head and transmission case to them and they did very good work. He walked me through their process and showed my photos of the process and I couldn't be happier... took a little longer than expected but it's not his fault he is busy because he is one of the few that do everything the right way... I will definitely go back next time I need any motor work.
I had a valve job done and was vary impressed with the quality. They stayed within my budget and it was ready sooner than expected. I will be recommending this shop to anyone who needs good quality work for a reasonable price. Mark also gave me very helpful tips on installing my head as it was my first time. Thanks again mark!
Have had two jobs done at marks and both have not turned out well. Last one was motor rebuild,got motor back aand had low oil pressure. When told about problem mark said it was normal. This is going to cost me 1,000 dollars to fix. Be careful of this shop.
This shop "replaced" my number 4 injector on my power stroke diesel truck. Told me it would take one day and then took three days. Got the truck back and it still acted the same as it was before. Mark told me the high pressure pump was coding weak and the number 5 injector was also weak and therefore may run the same as before. I took the truck to the Ford dealer and had it tested and diagnosed. They found nothing but a faulty number FOUR injector. They further stated upon replacing the injector that the one they pulled was the original factory injector. I will be contacting this shop for money back or taking them to small claims court. As they charged me $600 for work that was never performed. I will update this review wether the owner does the right thing and refunds my money or if I end up having to take them to court.
