What clients say about Scribner's Catskill Lodge in Fort Hunter (NY)

Inside Scribner’s lives a 4-star wolf and a 2-star wolf. The sauna isn’t insulated properly and so doesn’t work. Our first room (a lofted queen) had no view/barely a window, uninspired bare decor and a terrible uncomfortable bed. But then! Prospect was INCREDIBLE. The food was stunning. And our second room (the Mountain View king) was comfortable and beautiful. Like a whole different hotel. Service and location are great.

Our bartender was an artist! Cocktails were excellent and the food was great!

Scribner’s has earned my genuine respect. While I had an unexpected hiccup during a recent dining experience at their restaurant, what stood out most was how the situation was handled afterward. When I connected with ownership, they responded with an exceptional level of professionalism, accountability, and care, the kind that’s rare and truly meaningful. It was clear they take pride not only in their hospitality, but in how they treat people when it matters most. The food, the setting, and the overall experience are wonderful and their customer service sealed the deal. I’ll absolutely be returning, and I continue to speak very highly of Scribner’s as a thoughtfully run, high-caliber establishment.

Had a great first experience at Scribers lodge, everyone who worked there was friendly and attentive! It’s great knowing that they care for the dogs who come through, because my dog loved the dog bed which was provided!!! As well as the dog treats. That little extra touch really made a difference! And my dog didn’t feel left out! Which is a big deal to me. You can tell they are dog people . Can’t wait to come back in May.

Amazing stay! First and foremost, all of the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We loved our little room with a balcony, the view of the mountain, the comfy bed, and all the amenities around the property. Property was very dog friendly and made sure our pup felt at home. We also had some excellent meals at Prospect. Can’t wait to come back again soon!

Meh. That describes our entire experience here. Stay here if you want to pay for a luxury experience and get Best Western… the rooms were cheaply put together with no decoration or soul. The restaurant is crazy overpriced for service that ignores you and tasteless, boring food. The sauna (the reason we picked this hotel) doesn’t work at all!!! In fact, it was actually cold to sit in! I’ve added photos of the shoddy repairs and huge gaps in the door frame that let all the hot air escape. The ice rink wasn’t running the entire time we were there. You do NOT get s’mores daily… only one per room once during your stay. It snowed when we were there and everyone had to dig their cars out of their parking lot with shovels because they plowed everyone. Don’t listen to the influencers. This place is not worth it.

The Round was a perfect place for a family get away with my wife and five year old. Everything about our stay was perfect - the food, the service, the room. It was a nice winter wonderland. Super cozy! We wanna come back in the summer.

A very pleasant and welcoming place to stay in Hunters, New York. The atmosphere during fall and winter is spectacular, with warm, cozy areas and different spaces to relax, share, and enjoy dinner. The restaurant is very good, and the bar is especially cozy. It is also truly pet-friendly. Unlike many places where you pay a pet fee and get nothing in return, here they genuinely think about pets. They provide a bandana to identify whether your dog is extroverted or shy, along with a toy, snacks, a very clean and comfortable bed, and bowls for food and water. Pets are welcome in all spaces without any inconvenience, which makes the experience even better.

Was here for a short weekend after the thanksgiving holiday and really enjoyed the stay. The staff is very friendly, the views are great, good food, very dog friendly which is an huge plus for me, and lovely places to cozy up and dive into a book or play a board game. I will say that the couch, or bench, in the rooms are incredibly uncomfortable and not recommended to sit on for very long. Also, I would suggest that people completely forgo the sauna experience. It’s the most uncomfortable thing to sit in and doesn’t really work as it has a lot of structural flaws as too much outside air drafts into the sauna and you’re gonna sit there freezing your butt off. We were also disappointed that even though we were told there would be s’mores every night, that they only did it one night during our three night stay. I’d certainly come here again but some of the amenities were a tad disappointing.

The views for breakfast were amazing. Our stay was short but the wait staff for breakfast made it super memorable. Sebastian and Emily were so kind and hospitable. Would come again!

Fabulous hotel, affiliated with Marriott which is amazing. Thanks to my Titanium status we received a great upgrade with a Mountain View. Jake and Jack at the front desk were very helpful. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The common areas in the lodge are very inviting and comfortable along with fireplaces and wood stoves providing both heat and character. The bar was wonderful and David and Emily took great care of us, top notch F&B service. Cocktails and dessert was amazing, we didn't have dinner there. Breakfast at the Fellow Mountain Cafe, off property but owned by the lodge was super and the baked goods looked amazing. Overall this Scribner's is a top notch place to stay and have an amazing experience.

We had the most wonderful time at Scribner’s. The location, design, room, staff, and overall attention to detail were above and beyond. It was the most rejuvenating weekend we have had in a very long time. Highly recommend.

Awesome bar to hang out and grab a cocktail. It's a super fun hipster vibe. Beautiful for Sunset and a great view of Hunter Mountain. Great wines by the glass. I had a Sancerre. Staff is really nice and helpful. No food was being served until 5pm but plenty of walkable places to grab a bite nearby.

Perfect Catskills getaway! The location is beautiful, the crew is incredibly professional and kind, the amenities are amazing, and the rooms are spotless. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay!

I am all over the Hudson Valley constantly, staying at countless properties exploring. Of all the top rated lodges/hotels. This is by far the worst. It has curated a following, and advertises well. It has the potential but nothing on the property is actually functioning. If you want a nice room, Mountain View’s and a restaurant to eat at, come here. But there are so many other beautiful properties up here to get that. I would think that one pays extra for a place like scribners to get that extra experience, things to do on the property. They have the front lawn, and activities, games. We asked if we could go out and play some cornhole at sunset, they wouldn’t even turn the string of lights on, no working fire pit. Sent us out in the dark. We sat in their sauna today, for 50 minutes, with thick robes on…it doesn’t work, and wasted our whole morning. The staff is too young or inexperienced to even provide any sort of customer service. They apologize, almost offended that we said something. The staff will gaslight you worse than a toxic relationship. I read other reviews, this seems to be a trend here. When you set aside days to come and vacation somewhere looking for a good time, and the place is a farse, it’s incredibly disappointing and wasteful. Compared to wonderful things happening at other properties, don’t come here, money is best spent elsewhere.

Perfect place for a drink and a bite. The property is beautiful, easy to park and lots of outdoor seating options with views of the mountain. Recommend!

Wouldn’t go back. A lot of the spaces and amenities were privatized for the weekend and the hotel didn’t notify us. Limited seating outside - they weirdly only have 3 chairs on the deck. It was fine but way overpriced for what you get

I had a great stay at this lodge. The room was spacious and comfortable. I really appreciated the terrace outside my room, Unfortunately, the overgrown bushes made the terrace less usable since they blocked the mountain view, which was one of the main reasons I chose this place. Also, the room only had one physical key instead of a key card, which made it a bit inconvenient if more than one person wanted to come and go separately. Overall, it’s a lovely place and I would recommend it, but a few small improvements could make the experience even better!

We came here for a little summer getaway and we were disappointed. The rooms feel very sparse and the walls are paper thin. There was no charm. The front desk staff was fine. We booked a room with a loft and when we got to our room, we realized there was no TV up in the loft. The livingroom part of the room had hard built in benches that did not feel inviting at all. We asked the front desk if they had any other rooms and they were very nice and showed us two other options, but every room has the hard built in benches and super sparse interiors. We ended up taking the smallest room, so we could feel some sense of coziness. Went for dinner at the restaurant and the bartender was very rude and was acting like he was doing us a favor and was very unwelcoming . Our waiter for dinner was nice. The dinner menu was very limited and lacked vegetables. The pool is cheaply redone and the pool deck did not feel welcoming. Overall we were disappointed. We booked 3 nights and left after 1, but we could not get a refund because they have a minimum of 8 nights cancellation policy. Very disappointed.

We had relaxed weekend. Friendly, welcoming and accommodating staff in the hotel, pool and restaurant. Restaurant hit and miss and lack of choices .Pets and kids friendly. Lounge area with fire place, books, games.Swimming poll and sauna. Shower missing at a pool and chairs little hard and slippery. Love your support for local businesses . Donut truck in the morning or crafts and cider in the lobby.

We had a great stay at Scribners celebrating our 1 year anniversary. We were greeted in our room with a thoughtful note from the staff and a bottle of champagne! The rooms were clean and very cozy. The grounds of the hotel are well manicured and landscaped. The views from your balcony are fantastic of Hunter Mountain ski resort. We didn't get to enjoy the Pool as we were blessed with late spring NY cold/rainy weather but it looked awesome and can't wait to get back for a warm summer weekend. The Library area was very cool and it was a great spot for guests to hang out with easy access to the west deck for a fire and s'mores. The restaurant and bar were fantastic. It's not a huge menu but sometimes less is more as everything we had was excellent. The drinks were also spectacular with the bartenders not only being talented but also enjoyable to talk to. The biggest plus of all is that the hotel is dog friendly. It's great to be able to travel with our dog especially in an area that is as dog friendly as the Catskills with trails, breweries, and numerous outdoor activities. The pet package the hotel offers is expensive but the treats, dog toy, bowls, etc are all a very nice touch when other hotels charge similar fees but offer nothing in return. We will definitely be back!

Not worth the price 1) this location is not some kind of pristine get away it's just an over glorified motel down the street from a ski resort. 2) the amount of money you pay to get a crumby shower and sparse bedroom and roof that was creaking all night bc of rain and doors slamming every 5 minutes 3) good food at reasonable price is not in abundance if you come bring a cooler or something bc the food is over priced the drinks are weak. 4)the staff is a bunch of snobby hipsters. I feel like I'm in Williamsburg Brooklyn.

We came here for my boyfriend and I‘s birthday. The prospect restaurant had terrible service and the food was not that good especially for the price you’re paying. Paying over $200 for the hotel room just have the TV to barely not work in the shower-head to barely work. We also wanted to order room service, but the staff seem annoyed, we wanted to do that so we just went and picked it up for takeout. When we went, we were excited to use the sauna, but it was broken. We were able to use the other amenities like playing pool and skating on the glice. Besides that it was a nice getaway, but just very outdated and staff needs to be better.

Not great for the price, wouldn’t go back. Service at dinner and breakfast was understaffed and slow. Sauna turned out to be by appointment only (no advance notice of this), meaning we couldn’t use it after skiing which had been a big draw. Dinner was mediocre and the “lemon tart” they served plain awful. Breakfast was tasty but $110 for 2 for essentially diner food. Rooms have old TVs that can’t screen share or use streaming services. Location is next to a busy road. Interior design of the library is beautiful and the evening fire pit was a nice touch, but not enough to make up for the issues at $500/night.

Amazing, beautiful place. We went for a one night getaway and not to go skiing. Which was good because it rained the the whole time we were there. The lobby was like a modern library with hundreds of books and a fireplace in the center of the room.|The room was small but modern with a fantasic view of the mountain. We had an excellent breakfast in the restaurant. Next time, we'll do happy hour in the bar and try the sauna.||Also, I left some clothing in the room and they kindly mailed it to me asap.|A wonderful place, I recommend it highly.

Visited Scribner’s just after New Year to get some skiing in on Hunter Mountain, it was an excellent choice. The hotel has a rustic but modern flair, with a wonderful lounge arranged around a central fireplace. The rooms are spacious, with a modern decor. Prospect Bar and restaurant, on site, served great food mainly provisioned from the Catskills region. A little more upscale than other places in Hunter, it was excellent. Both the hotel staff and those in the restaurant were friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely recommend.

We stayed at the rounds and it was lovely. Super clean and well done. Loved the fireplace and how dog friendly it was. The outdoor bath was very relaxing. One star off though as housekeeping really did the least the first night and came at awkward hours. They also didn’t replace the tea/coffee or the used mugs or take the room service box we had the night before. Also our hot water stopped working but they fixed it while we were out. WiFi was also a bit spotty. Some variety in snacks and tea in the apex lounge would have been a nice. But overall was a great stay.

We had a wonderful long weekend stay at this hotel. We stayed in one of the rounds and thought it was absolutely worth it. Large spacious place, super clean and nice and private. Really enjoyed the Japanese soaking bath outside and the bed wad super comfy. Rounds guests can use the apex lounge which is right by the rounds as opposed to have to walk down to the lodge. The lodge itself was lovely. We really enjoyed dinner and two breakfasts at the restaurant and had zero issues with staff or waits as mentioned in a few other reviews. Everyone was nice and responsive. This is a Marriott design hotel so not all the Marriott perks are available here that might be at a regular Marriott. Finally, the grounds were really lovely. Beautiful views, a cozy fire pit and a lovely sauna with a few. Also enjoyed the yoga class which is complimentary for guests. Just be warned if you stay in a round the walk back from the lodge at night , while short, is steep and very dark and bears are a concern.

I recently stayed the weekend at Scribner's. The highlight for me was dinner at Prospect—the food was delicious, and the cocktails from the bar menu were top-notch. Breakfast was a stark difference from the quality of food at dinner, but it was lovely to enjoy coffee and an egg sandwich out on the patio in the morning. I also loved how dog-friendly the hotel is; it was such a treat to have our pup with us. Relaxing by the fire was a perfect way to unwind and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. The location is fantastic, especially with all the fun fall activities in the area. I did have a couple of small challenges during my stay. I found the concierge wasn’t as helpful as I had hoped when I asked about local activities like apple picking. The concierge gives out a guide of hikes/other things in the area, but I found that if i asked for local suggestions beyond the guide, the response was that they could google it for me. Which I am more than happy to do the same, but it is nice to get a suggestion from the hotel concierge who might be more in the know of things in the area! Additionally, while there were a few aspects of the room that didn’t quite meet my expectations based on the nightly cost of the room. The tiles in bathroom in particular felt a bit dated along with the shower curtain, compared to the glass shower door pictured in the online room photos. Overall, Scribner's location is great, and we enjoyed our get away with our pup!

So I’m not someone who generally writes reviews unless someplace is really great or it was not a great experience and sadly it’s the poor experience that brought me here. Upon walking in there were 3 staff members standing there and we had to start by asking where do we go to check in. Not a huge deal but with what this place costs I feel you should at least be greeted with a welcome to our lodge are you here to check in? During the check in I was uncomfortably stared at for way longer than I should have been making me feel that since I’m not their typical hipster patron I was being judged. I also want to make sure it’s understood that before I continue this review we were upgraded at no cost to a lofted queen room. We get upstairs and walk into the room and while the appearance was nice it felt cold and not because it was temperature wise cold. The couches if you would call them that were not comfortable so it didn’t feel like there was someplace where you could just relax and unwind. When we went up to check out the loft and see where we could put our stuff we quickly realized there was no place to put your things away. So if you’re good with living out of your bags then that might not be a big deal for you. The pics online of the bathroom make it appear much bigger and cleaner. The grounds were nice but that’s about all I can say about that. So to wrap this up if you’re looking for someplace to stay just based on how much you are spending a night rather than being comfortable and having a relaxing experience then maybe this is the place for you. The vibe here is just people who don’t care about that and come off as snobby with a staff that was rude and had zero personality. I know I would not stay here again based on our experience.
