What clients say about Central Garage in Lake Placid (NY)
Used them a few times over the years, right up until they wanted to charge me $50 to jump my car. The work was fine, but they are a consistently bad neighbor. They block the sidewalk with vehicles regularly, and in the winter they plow their lot directly onto the sidewalk and crosswalk, which is a real hazard. I have had to contact the Town Council about it more than once. Several of their older vehicles also leak oil into the storm drain out front, which is a particular problem in a community that prides itself on protecting its environment. They used to display their political beliefs prominently on the outside of the building as well, though that signage has since come down. The inside tells a different story. Just something to be aware of if that matters to you when choosing where to spend your money. Plenty of other options in the area.
Dropped my car off 3 times to get my rear differential and tire pressure sensor looked at
along with an oil change, first 2 times they didn’t even look at the car, 3rd they didn’t bother doing the work I asked and did an oil change and cleared the codes. Next day codes came back and I called to bring it back and they told me bring it in at 4-4:30. I called them back at 4 to confirm they could look at my car because of the prior experience and they said no one’s in the garage and that they have 4 police vehicles they’re working on. This place is so disorganized and dysfunctional that it’s a miracle they are still open.
Jay and his team (Adnan, Talon etc.) have helped us many times and is a great help to the folks in the area. He has helped us both with our car and motorcycle. Recently, we had a flat with our motorcycle. Jay got the tow sent to us quickly and fixed the puncture within a day. We trust him and his team - good, honest, super hardworking business.

Friend accidentally locked keys in his car, and central garage came to the rescue. Within a half hour we were back in the car, and the man who helped us was efficient and hilarious. Would go here again if I locked my keys in the car
Rude, lied to me twice about the timing of my vehicle getting done after dropping it off with them (oil change and tire rotation) HOURS before only to come back hours later to pick up the truck not moved from the spot they told me to park it. We live locally and wanted to support local, but unfortunately this place is not it.
These guys were great. While visiting Lake Placid, I got a flat, and didn't want to drive 200 miles home with a donut. I called them and they confirmed they had the tire I needed. Within an hour they had a new tire on for me. I was so thankful they were there and able to get the tire on for me quickly.
As a local resident, I’ve heard mixed feedback about Central Garage but wanted to support a small, local business rather than a chain. We called ahead to schedule an oil change and tire rotation and were given a 4:30 PM appointment. Wanting to be timely, we dropped the vehicle off at 3:00 PM and spent the afternoon in town, including dinner.
At around 4:00 PM, we were told the vehicle would be ready by 5:30—6:00 PM at the latest. However, when we returned around 7:00 PM, the vehicle hadn’t been moved from where we parked it. The staff on site were polite and mentioned they could get to it later that night if we were able to leave it.
Unfortunately, we needed the vehicle back that evening, which is why we scheduled a same-day appointment in the first place. Had we known it wouldn’t be serviced until later or possibly the next day, we would have planned accordingly. This experience highlighted a significant communication issue that made the situation unnecessarily frustrating and inconvenient.
Took them over a week to pick up a car stuck in a parking lot 9 miles from their shop despite them saying over the phone they would be there the day we called. Called back to the shop multiple times throughout the week it sat in the lot, they finally picked it up around the time they said they would have the car done by initially. Then they charged nearly double the cost of the part they installed. I definitely wouldn't recommend this business, there plenty of other reputable shops in the area that follow through with their word.
My sister and I came into town for a conference. We live a little over 2 hours away. We were there for two nights. The first night we got to the hotel, as SOON as we pulled in…her alternator went on her vehicle. Jay was so willing to help…not only to get it done in time, but also willing to work with the car warranty company. He was friendly, accommodating, willing…went above and beyond. Everyone at the shop did. So thankful, life saver. Thanks Jay!
I went up and over the snow bank and out into the field. I called Central garage and talked to Jay, he said they'd be there shortly. There are about 15 mi away from where I went off the road and were there in less than an hour. 10 minutes later he had me back on the road and heading home. Top notch operation.
