The Franklin Avenue Recycling Center provides free recycling for traditional materials, limited yardwaste, mattress recycling (fee based), as well as, offer bagged mulch and compost sales.
Services are available for residents of Springfield and Greene County. Products are for sale to the general public, regardless of residency.

Honestly a good place to dump done smaller things such as yard debris, paper and plastic. Sometimes hard to pull into due to traffic and people. Also sometimes you will get hassle by the employees complaining about what you are doing, even though it is within the law. Sometimes employees treat you like you trying to give them something illegal and will watch you like your stealing or as if you some thief when you just want to dump some yard debris that's within their posted rules. But besides that still a good place to dump if you follow the rules posted.
I placed a broken green 100% plastic child's chair in the mixed plastic bin along with other plastics at 8:05 am, on 7/23. The attendant came over and said it was not recyclable and had to go into my regular trash.
No problem! That's all that had to be said!
But instead the attendant continued to lecture me on that's why the sign in front lists specific items to be recycled. He later came back over to me to continue to lecture me on that's why there are less recycle stations, and that if this was to continue they would close and it all would go to the landfill. I'm 66 years old, I get it! But I don't need to be lectured like a little kid. I don't need to take my time to seperate, make a special trip, re- distribute all the recyclables into the bins only to get lectured, not once but three times. I was upset enough to tell him before I left "I get it, but I don't have to do this, I can just dump it all in the trash that I pay for anyway" a weekly pick-up that I use less than half the time.
Glad to have this recycling center here in town so close to where I stay. It is usually kept clean and nicely organized.
A good place like this makes one wonder why more townspeople don't recycle, when it's so easy to.

We love that this recycling location is available and costs nothing out of pocket! We've brought our recycling here for 4 years & counting and never had a problem. Staff is always friendly, grounds are always clean, & now there's an easily accessible container to keep recycled mattresses in. Can't say enough good about this place.
The public could stand to wash out & prep their materials needing recycling. Most US citizens don't think about how important it is to not try to recycle contaminated materials like pizza boxes with grease spots on them, glass jars & tin/aluminium cans with food residue, cardboard boxes with stickers, etc. Those elements ruin the recycling batch & it all gets thrown out.
The website says you are open, the sign at Franklin Ave. says you’re closed until 1 April, and the phone message says you’re closed until further notice. Please align all three.
I have only been here once, seems fine to me. :). I usually go to Lone Pine, but since I’ve been having Sunday’s and Mondays off, I thought I’d go here again, but you’re closed Sunday’s and Monday’s too! It would be really cool if you and lone pine would stagger the days you’re closed.
Good place drop off normal house hold recycling items like paper, cardboard, tin cans, glass bottles, milk jugs, and the like. They have a website showing what they'll accept and signs at each dumpster. So stop complaining about stuff they won't take.
Drove quite a ways on my day off to drop off some parts to an old garage door. They told me they can't take large items, they don't take metal, other than household-like soda cans. Complete waste of my time. They don't pay you anything, it is YOU donating to them. So if you want to drop off a load of scrap and get paid, this place can't do it. They need to make that clear in their advertising, but don't.
Astonishingly terrible. Left speechless with an extremely rude staff member who told me with a big smile on his face that he'd fine me $500 because I misplaced my recycling. Maybe that's how they afford such a lavish office building for a place whose recycling yard looks like a junkyard .
Quick n easy to recycle plastics n paper products. More options available. Any time there is an employee there, they are always helpful n friendly. Since plastics NEVER go away--it is imperative that we recycle plastics !!
Thank you so much for the hot coffee and donuts and choice of a recycling container to celebrate Recycling Day. This facility is always well run and tge staff are always availabke to help or answer questions.
It was an unexpected surprise today to receive help in dispersing my recycling materials- I had quite a load. Thank you to the Franklin Center for the polite man who made a dreaded chore a light job!!
Was asked to leave made to get off property because I wanted to recycle my cardboard. He said I can’t recycle because I am a business, I understand that but, sign says no dumping trash but no sign posted saying no business’s allowed to recycle. ??
This center has hours that shift with winter. They are open till 6pm during most of the year, but only till 5pm during winter, which lasts from the 1st Tuesday in November to the 1st Tuesday of April.
Easy recycling experience. There isn't always someone around for specific questions about items that aren't listed on the containers. Parking is a bit confusing and unorganized.
