This review is a late in coming. I rented one of their units in the main house for Granddaughter and her family. The view out their window of Lake Superior is amazing. They enjoyed theirself very much. The rooms were very clean. It is located on the very quiet Croftville Road that runs along Lake Superior. Great for walking and bike riding. Very close to town, shops and restaurants.
What an excellent little cabin to host our family of 4. 2 beds and a futon are solid for us. The mattresses across the board are a bit stiff, but the view is great, the kitchen is cozy, and the bathroom is nice. All very clean and with quintessential Minnesota nice hosts. Close to town (Grand Marais), with Lake Superior just out back. Excellent. Plus, plenty of firewood for the back firepit. Loved it here.
Quaint. Cozy. Quiet. Clean. Should I go on? We stayed in a cottage so plenty of room for 2 plus all of our winter … stuff. The location is so close to winter activities but still private. The lake is just steps away. We even had a couple deer come to visit one night. And the price was right … we will be back
Excellent place to call home for a few days. Convenient to Grand Marais and several hiking, snowshoeing, cross county ski trails. The cabins were well stocked, clean, and a great view of the Big Lake. Great WIFI so I could still do a little work that was needed.
I have stayed here on two separate occasions: once in one of the Inn Suites and most recently in one of the Cottages. Owners have been friendly and professional every time I've interacted with them. They clearly care deeply to provide such a special retreat for visitors. I have found that they put the same care into all their spaces. Inside the rentals I appreciate the terrific views, as well as providing necessary cookware in the kitchen(s), well stocked bathrooms with plenty of towels and shampoo/soap, etc. I also enjoyed the care and thought spent on the outdoor spaces to best enjoy Lake Superior as well such as picnic tables, seating areas, and well maintained paths to wander the property. A short set of stairs take you down to the shoreline to get eye level with the Lake while soaking in the views. Terrific place to unwind and relax.
The place is like no other that we have stayed at on the North Shore. We had a suite all to ourselves with the waves gently singing in the breeze. The owners are kind and very helpful. The back yard has several campfire areas and very comfortable with a wonderful view of Lake Superior. We will definitely visit again this peaceful and well managed property.
This family-owned place is a gem! For the same price as a hotel room in town overlooking the dumpster, you can have a full view of Lake Superior with its soothing rolling waves. The place is very clean--yes, even the blankets and covers--and we adored having a full kitchen. There are paths all along the lake with places to sit, have campfires, or swing. I love strolling on Croftville Road too! The only caveat is that they do not have air conditioning, but the rooms have fans and are well-ventilated.
We've stayed in quaint cabins from Moab to Bar Harbor. The accommodations and views are up there with the best of them. Easy access to many parks and Grand Marais.
We LOVED this place! It’s beautifully appointed- many details we wouldn’t have expected. It was super warm and cozy- the fireplaces and heating were excellent on a chilly north shore weekend in November. Thank you for the firewood available and all the extra touches. The location is fantastic too- every room has great views. We would love to return soon!
We stayed in Inn, suite #4, absolutely perfect. Great location, lots of amenities to use to enjoy the Lake Superior view. Wood burning fireplace was awesome for the first chilly nights of the fall season. I'm glad we stayed just outside of Grand Marais, this place is worth the extra few minutes to drive out of town. Great reading nook and deck area to enjoy the lake views and have some r&r.
The place was very clean and comfortable. A lot of time and effort was put into the house. We were on the 3rd floor, and the only downside would be all the steps. However, this did not bother us much, and the view was excellent. The only thing we heard our whole stay was the waves. Would definitely stay again.
One of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed and we have been to over 20 National Parks. Absolute peace and quiet. Our door opened up to the birds chirping and the waves crashing down below on the rocks. Room #7 was immaculate and well appointed. Even the dish towels were folded exactly alike and placed in the drawers precisely spaced. That is meticulous! Full size fridge, large kitchen, plenty of porch chairs, fire pit, and everything else you could need for a great vacation. 10 minutes to fabulous restaurants in town. I would go back in a heartbeat!
What a fabulous place to stay! We spent 5 nights here celebrating our wedding anniversary. The room was perfect - nice amenities with a spectacular view of Lake Superior!||The hosts were very friendly and helpful.||The location was on a quiet road adjacent to Hwy 61. It’s convenient to Grand Marais and many recreation opportunities.||We loved staying here, and we’ll be back!
My wife & I went for a week in July 2022 which was a change from our previous visits in April for several previous years. We enjoyed each and every visit. Mike & Teresa were very accommodating and we consider this our "get away" place to unwind. Now, caution, we would go in April because it is our wedding anniversary and to kick-back and relax it is excellent. BUT if you're expecting to "do things" in Grand Marais there isn't that much to do which is why we went last July. Grand Marais so super busy on the weekends, best to do your Grand Marais exploration midweek. Oh, and BTW, we are heading there, again, this week for several days to unwind.
The best place to stay on the North Shore. Amazing place, perched right on Lake Superior. There are 2 bedroom cabins with full kitchens and luxury suites in the Inn. The owners built the place over many years and you can see that it was a labor of love.
We stayed for 2 nights in cabin #6 for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We were married on Lake Superior, and are always looking for new places to stay along the North Shore. This unit was clean, cozy, and right on the water. Would highly recommend this property!!
Great location, facilities, amenities and service. Whirlpool hot tubs, real fire places, shore of Lake Superior, full kitchens, comfy furnishings, wonderfully thought out. Close to Grand Marais. It’s our go-to place on the north shore.
We stayed two nights in Cabin 1. WOW! The whole experience exceeded our expectations. The view of the lake, the waves crashing, the s'mores cooked over our own campfire, the swings, the comfortable beds, the friendly staff.... This is a place we want to visit again and again.
Stayed in cabin #3 ..cozy ,clean well maintained cabin with everything you need for a getaway. Its right next to superior..with a nice view and a trail to walk by. Management's communication was great!..they could maybe work on their website to better portray what this place has to offer!. This is one of my favourites so far ..planning to come back again!...

We spent one night in this cozy cabin. We’ve stayed at other cabins in this area and have always enjoyed the scenery and the sounds of Lake Superior. We were glad we were able to find one night, as it was very busy during the week after Christmas. The cabin was super clean, very updated, and plenty of room for my family of 4. We have a college student and a 16 year old and they enjoyed the stay as well. ||We liked the supplies for cooking that were provided so we could just make something to eat since take out was very limited because of Covid. We will definitely check to see about staying here again.
While the cabin is a bit tight for my family of four, it nonetheless meets or exceeds expectations. The small things matter -- showing up a few hours ago to a warm, well-lit, charming cabin; intelligently laid out interior, spotless and well furnished and appointed; hot water, and lots of it; easily adjustable room temperatures. I should think a great view of Lake Superior. Ask in the morning. Easy, trusting booking with Mike, the owner. An awesome location tucked away on a quiet road hugging the rocky shore, yet only a couple miles from Grand Marais. So far, so good!!
I've been to the cottages probably 6 times, and each time has been a wonderful experience. The cottages themselves are spacious and well-appointed, and are literally a stone's throw from Lake Superior.
There is an abundance of great hiking trails within a short drive, and Grand Marais is just a few minutes away as well.
Theresa and Mike (the owners) are fantastic. I promise you'll fall in love with this place!
No matter what I write it won't do the cottage justice. The caretakers are so friendly and accommodating that you immediately feel comfortable. The location is perfect so you can always hear the waves of Lake Superior, no matter how small they are. The unit is impeccably clean and stocked with everything you would need. The cottage is extremely cozy and the fireplace is a dream!!!!!! There are so many places to visit that are just a short drive from the cottage. Including lots of beaches for agate hunting. I have a feeling this will forever be my happy place ❤
Perfect in every way. Every detail was thoughtful. And it was extremely clean, the owners are taking Covid very seriously! ||The #8 suite in the main house has THE most amazing views. You have the entire top floor of the house to yourself. Master bed is firm. Claw foot tub. Plush towels. Even cute dishes! And the window seat overlooking the lake! Perfection. Location is awesome. Hosts were friendly and helpful, but allowed complete separation if that’s what you want. One teen slept on the comfy futon and our other on an air mattress we brought along (asked for permission), but she would have easily fit on the long window seat. Book it now! I did all your research for you, I promise! Even the sunrise was perfect!
My husband and I stayed in one of the cottages over Memorial Day weekend for about 5 days. We couldn’t have been more pleased when we walked in and saw the windows with the great view of the lake and the space of the cottage. It was perfect space with a kitchen large enough to cook in and with plenty of kitchen items to use. The cabin was clean and that is important to us!! We took advantage of the free firewood and made a fire a couple of nights and also sat on the swing that is right on the bluff overlooking the lake. The road it is on is a great road to take a morning or evening walk - which we did every night. It is close enough to go to Grand Marais and walk around or walk out to the lighthouse which is always fun and also close to many state parks. Going back next year for sure.
This place is absolutely amazing. We travel all over the country, I have seen a lot of beautiful places. This however is at the top of the list. The whole surrounding area is full of hiking trails and waterfalls.
We found this place on Airbnb when our Florida trip fell apart due to Covid-19. My mom has been battling cancer, while she was holding on and fighting through the chemotherapy she thought of going somewhere beautiful. That gave her strength. I know she wasn’t disappointed nor were we. We stayed in cottage 3, they go over and above here at Croftville Road Cottages. I see why the first book is filled with people celebrating their wedding anniversaries and other special events.
We will have to make this place a tradition ❤️
Oh my. We just checked in and this place is gorgeous! The renovation is extremely well done. This unit is spotless, well appointed, and bigger than I expected. We just finished a BWCA trip and this is a fantastic in town getaway. As someone who visits Grand Marais often this will be at the top of my list for places to stay.
We stayed here for a little over a week while visiting family in the area. The cottage was perfectly cozy and comfortable for two adults and two young children. Regretfully we couldn't enjoy what looked like some beautiful outdoor seating by the shoreline due to weather, but the staff worked nonstop during the snow to shovel and clear so we could get in and out. Highly recommend if you are staying in our near Grand Marais.
Amazing place to stay. Quiet, off the main road, right on the lake. Cottage's are perfect and the new inn is beautiful. The owners are friendly and very accommodating. It is our #1 place to go to when we need a break from the hustle and bustle of big city life.
