I got there early. Was able to get on the scales. He weighed the truck and charged me for the minimum load and I didn't have to get back on the scales again

Wowsa! South Oakland Country has an INCREDIBLE treasure and treat for its residents! This place is HUGE and takes just about anything for recycling. The people are helpful but it is very hectic and active so pay attention! It is very STINKY! Definitely a "garbage" facility.

Be ready to be demeaned by the person at the entrance because “you people” didn’t spend 3 hours on the website finding out what they consider trash vs recycling. The appointment I made online was “too late” in the day and I couldn’t drop off concrete. That information is supposedly somewhere on the site too. It’s frustrating that taxes pay for an unhelpful website and disrespectful behavior when I did try to carefully read the info on the web and was nice to the person at the gate. Beware…

Seems they always have a problem or an attitude every time I've gone to try and dump . Just the worst, zero stars of I could

This place is so hit or miss. You can not count on this place to be a 100% operational between their posted business hours. I needed to dispose of waste this morning and at 9am they are full. Accepting no further trash until further notice. I will not be coming back. Your one and only job is to take trash and recycling. I have been here a few times with ok experiences and was always nervous on the negative reviews of this place. I now understand them. They are not kidding. This place does not offer a reliable service.

First, requiring an appointment to drop off two UPS batteries isn't exactly encouraging recycling. Second, the number of available appointments each day is very limited—the soonest I could find is over a week away. Why is it necessary to require appointments for small household waste? What’s the reason for such limited availability? And why not allow people to drop off certain items anytime, like the recycling bins provided by some local shops?

Looked online and called to get information about what times you can drop off garbage. But could not find anything online their website and no one answer the phone. Drop off hours are only between 6am-10am. Although conveniently located, they are a little pricey for a small pick up load.

Really? I need to make an appointment weeks in advance to drop off one broken TV. This does not encourage people to recycle and I find very ineffective. Why be open during the week? What is the point? Staff are rude and condescending. Into the landfill it goes

Yard waste is still accepted here if you missed the December cutoff for curbside collection. Note that some of the employees can be a bit on the grumpy side, but I probably would be too if I had to stand outside all day in the cold, snow, wind, heat, sun and / or rain. Friday appointments can be hard to come by, unless you're willing to wait a week or two. Also, watch for debris in the parking lot, as I've had a couple of screws and nails in my tire the next day, probably not a coincidence.

Absolutely horrible experience! This used to be an accommodating service for local residents. I made an appointment and rented a trailer to haul some residential waste this morning. During the appointment process there was no mention of restrictions regarding unloading. When I got there at 11 AM they told me I could not hand unload after 10 AM. So there I was with a full trailer, an empty facility, and a grumpy foreman and scale operator who wouldn’t let me fulfill my appointment. Some public service!!

This is easily the best recycling depot I've ever used in all the places I've lived, run by an equally put-together organization. It's open to the public, always very clean and well-kept, and signs make it clear what goes where. They take nearly everything most people would want to recycle. There are still a couple quite uncommon types of items they can't yet process, but they're constantly working to expand their capabilities- that's something I've never seen any other similar organization. Every time I email them with a question, they've responded with a friendly and clear answer within a business day or so. Well done, SOCRRA! 2022 update: After a very rough transition in the first 2 years of the COVID pandemic, SOCRRA is finally back on its feet. Dropoff remains appointment-only, but at least now appointments are easy to obtain (unlike in 2021). It's disappointing that they stopped accepting plastic grocery bags, as I have zero faith that any of the grocery chains are actually recycling the bags they collect in their entryways.

The facility was a bit further than in would like, but was great otherwise. I showed up at my appointment time, there were only a handful of others. The nice gentleman at the gates greeted me and pointed me in the right direction. I headed to hazardous waste and the gentleman there unloaded for me and pointed me to scrap metal to unload the rest of my items. The process was quick and easy. The facility was clean. Good to know for next time!

Not a giant fan of the appointment requirement, but I was able to make one online last night, for this morning, and I was able recycle literally an entire SUV full of scrap metal and batteries and cardboard, in only a few minutes. I love that I can do that so easily!

Our family had an outside repast following a funeral. We accumulated so much trash over a 2day timeframe, we couldn't wait for next trash pickup. SOCRRA was very helpful in allowing us to deliver our SUV-full trash. A quick and easy process.

It is convenient to have recycling close to Troy. Need to stop appointments and make it easier access to recycle materials. Appointments two weeks out are mostly filled up. Recycling should be easy so we can all stop this exponential growth in global landfills. SOCCRA needs to stop pandemic processes which were good last year and get back to normal easy access to recycling. SOCCRA no longer takes plastic bags and large plastic items like lawn chairs, kids outdoor plastic toys, etc which results in more garage in landfills. SOCCRA needs a major redesign to accommodate the massive amounts of garbage the SOCCRA communities generate. Need to separate garbage truck traffic from residents recycling drop off area. Need better education to community to what material are recyclable. SOCCRA employees are very nice and helpful.

If I could give zero stars, I would. The staff was sso extremely rude. Instead of nicely directing us where to go, they yelled at me saying I wasn't in the right spot. I really wanted to yell back but I was with my group of participants for work and didn't want to yell at the workers in front of them. SO RUDE! Find somewhere else if you can.

Not flexible for those that work normal hours. Have to schedule two weeks out. At this point it's easier to just dump chemicals down the drain instead of disposing them correctly. Please have more appointments so we can do the right thing. EDIT: They've added Saturday appointments, it was a painless in an out.

Oakland County residents can recycle all kinds of household items here. They have a commercial shredder for all of your personal papers and also accept just about every other recyclable item. Because of the pandemic entry is currently by appointment only, but normally you can drop off anytime by showing your ID to the guard at the entrance.

For years I have been kindly treated by John who never runs out of patience when I ask repeatedly which items goes where. All the employees are friendly and eager to help. It always look forward to interacting with your staff and doing the right thing for our fragile planet with recyclable items. JSB

Has anyone who lives in the neighborhood noticed the beeping of trucks backing up and (what sounds like) loading and unloading of dumpsters...usually starting at 3 or 4 AM? I live a mile away, but can feel the ground shake at least once a week.

It's great that we can set up an appointment and still get recyclables to the right place. Hardly anyone there on the trips I've made. No one using the shredder, so it makes that operation move quickly. Best time to arrange a drop off time is right after 8 am. Most likely will be 2 weeks after that date.

UPDATED 8/18/20...We finally got the appointment and dropped off everything we had been collecting for the last 4 months, today!. The trick is going on their website at 12:01am because they add new appointments everyday at that time. 1st post-(4 weeks ago)-...The SOCCRA recycling center signs show “by appointment only” @ soccra.org but good luck finding any information related to making an appointment on that website. Also calling them at the number they list doesn’t work because they give you number options for any issue you have but all you get is a recording saying the number you pushed is invalid. So I guess with a slow down in their business they are still too busy to fix their website or phone issues. What a terrible system.

Not only is this an important service to the community, the workers are helpful and informative and the area is kept more tidy that one would expect. The place is always busy, and I would like to see more thought put into a one-way traffic flow for the public and away from the big collection trucks for safety purposes

Wasn't expecting a visit to a Waste Disposal site to leave me with a smile and make my day. First visit and was impressed with operation and how it benefits the environment. What really made my day was the Man wearing the NY Yankee hat in electronics. He greeting me promptly, lifted items from my SUV even though I'm bigger......then when I tried to tip him he politely refused and said "This is my job, not necessary". Huh? He just gave me great service, I felt I owed something for taking waste, no one is watching and without blinking he refuses a $10 bill. My Man! Quality and Integrity rarely seen these days. Says everything about how SOCRRA is operated.

I have the greatest passion for the environment. I wish others feel the same. I love The SOCRRA facility, great hard working employees at the yard that’s sometimes are being taken advantage by the customers who come to shred there documents and don’t care if they jammed the shredding machine. The shredding area is small, cramp and some people have disregard for others by bringing the shopping carts filled with papers in that tiny space. Management needs to have more staff in the recycling area where the mix recycling bins are situated. It’s too much work for one employee to monitor everything all at once on his shift.

This is the best recycling place in Michigan that I know of. They accept metal, cardboard boxes, most plastic, electronic devices, and other miscellaneous stuff. It is extremely organized and pretty clean. The people here are very helpful and very courteous. Every city in America should have a place like this. I can't wait for it to reopen again.

As a contractor we have found them to be very shifty on policies for dumping. For example this morning we were supposed to start a job but had to dump trailer first, arrived at soccra at 6am and they decided they were not taking any contractor waste today. Completely blew the beginning of our day.
