Wood End Lighthouse in
Provincetown Township (MA)

Visit at your own risk. Apparently the tide charts are deceiving. I checked them multiple times before embarking on this journey with 3 kids aged 10-16. Even did research the night before. The jetty itself is a mess. Large gaps, slopes... questionable hops were made. There are some areas where the jetty dips down into the water... we reached the lighthouse and on our way back, the tide was coming in and our original path was gone.. we had to find our way back around to the jetty. And then the parts that were already slightly submerged in water were even deeper in water... it was a bit scary and what I tried to avoid with all the research I did. Very long journey there and back. Cross at your own risk!

The winds are blowing over the bay, the sun is scorching above the sand...After an arduous walk on a beautiful day with literally no comfortable feeling at all, I approached it, which was initially deemed as the Long Point Light, but turned Wood End Lighthouse in reality. I made a beautiful mistake, through which would be able to present the photos to all of you.

Wood End Lighthouse is a hidden gem at the very tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Getting there is an adventure in itself: you walk across a long, rocky breakwater that stretches through beautiful marshlands and offers incredible ocean views. Depending on the tide, the walk can be a bit tricky, but that’s part of what makes the experience so memorable. Once you reach the lighthouse, you’re rewarded with complete tranquility, sweeping views of the Atlantic, and the feeling of being completely removed from the modern world. The lighthouse is simple and historic, perfectly set against the dramatic backdrop of dunes and sea. Pro tip: Check the tide schedule before you go, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water and sunscreen — there’s no infrastructure out there, which is part of its unique charm. Bottom line: A magical, off-the-beaten-path destination for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking to disconnect and soak in Cape Cod’s raw beauty. I’ll definitely be back!

It’s a long trek across the jetty and sand to get there. The lighthouse isn’t in commission anymore. It’s a nice walk along the jetty’s when it’s low tide, you can look through the sand for shells. If you have any knee issues though I’d recommend not making the trek.

Nice beach near the lighthouse, it was EMPTY!!! Crossing the rocks took us at least 30-40 minutes but it was worth it ! Nice place!

A great little lighthouse! A little gem right at the end of the cape. This amongst a few others in the area. It takes some walking to get to and is a bit off the beaten path. Also easily visible during the Whale cruise.

The jetty can be slippery and the rocks are uneven. Definitely wear hiking shoes and expect horizontal rock climbing. Be sure to look up the time for low tide. If you don't time it correctly, you can get stuck out there when high tide comes in.

Passing by 7/30/2023 from Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch cruise. Beautiful lighthouse built over the sand dunes. Updated 9/21/2023: Did a night hike (around 8PM to 10PM)on low tide on 09/16/2023 via Provincetown Causeway. Remember to bring flash light. Saw the starry sky over the beautiful sand dunes and lighthouse. Very impressive experience.

So... how do you get there? Lol, well you park and hope you have low enough tide to walk across a bunch of rocks. Just about 2 miles there and back. Didn't make it technically all the way to the light house, but did get to take a look. Pretty cool classic cape lighthouse, beautiful waters, and very pleasant breezes. A wonderful walk, just make sure you have comfortable and grippy shoes. ??

A Very cool experience! The jetty is pretty long, pack drinks if you are thinking about making it to the beach.

We made a fascinating trek along the spit to this abandoned lighthouse. Behind the sand boulders we saw the open ocean. The large and powerful waves of this natural wonder will not leave anyone indifferent

Well this one is not easy to get to but worth walking out on jetties to view. Just go at low tide.

The walk to the light house was so long but worth it!!! so beautiful!! Definitely would suggest to take the walk.

Walked the rocks from Provincetown Inn to make it just before the sun went down. Absolutely worth it!

I love lighthouses! This one u really have to work for to get up to it. Tough walk. They do need to clean up the trash from the side shed. But the scenery is great!

Once you cross the Provincetown causeway you still have to walk further 500 meters. The other side is a pebble beach and scenic walk along the beach. Lighthouse isn’t operational and cannot enter the building. Good for photography.

There is no paved trail to this lighthouse. Beware of ticks on your way there!!

Picturesque lighthouse accessible from Herring Cove beach or Provincetown Causeway. It can take 30 minutes to walk to the Lighthouse, but it’s a rewarding adventure. Don’t go through the marshlands since they are wetter than they seem even at low tide. There’s no access to the lighthouse.

Beautiful and definitely worth the walk. Don’t bother with the ferry, it’s a 50 minute walk from town and is beautiful!! Definitely go here for some peace and quiet

Serene place with a secluded beach. The walk to the lighthouse is through a stone bridge and is probably close to a mile. But it's definitely worth the walk!

Amazing place among the dunes and the wind. We took the path of the dike to get there and it was a fantastic hike. Just bear in mind the tides and the gaps between the big rocks of the dike. It takes about an hour and a half or two hours to reach the lighthouse and return if you are not planning to stay there for more than fifteen minutes.

Fun fact. Wood End Light Lookout Station is a historic lighthouse, located at the southwest end of Long Point in Provincetown, Massachusetts. It is located at Wood End, near the southernmost extent of the Provincetown Spit, and acts as a navigational aid to vessels on their approach to Provincetown Harbor. The Long Point Light Station, further down the peninsula at the tip of Long Point is an identical design and completed in 1875, three years after Wood End Light.

Great, saw this and the sister light, a word of warning- make sure you time the tides carefully to ensure it is low tide when crossing the dike
