If you live in southern Maryland you really should really consider dropping by this lovely place. Tons of hiking trails, beautiful Vistas and lovely gift shop. You can even see Mount Vernon across the Potomac from the pier. It's free and plenty of parking!
For what it is, me and my kid, loved it here! Especially interested in their old-timey settlements, you can explore and check out! And the animals were cool to see upclose, there's a very friendly kitty there also! Oddly enough, alot of the animals were white and black mixed color though, lol. Even the cat! 🤔 😉
What a beautiful place ! So inspiring and relaxing to be on these lands. There was a gentleman inside the visitor center who was very kind and helpful and gave us a map!
The animals are fun to see, and they are well cared for. A lot of the animals also have names. The park is not the largest or fanciest but is still nice to have in the area.
We had such a wonderful time at the National Colonial Farm. It’s a beautiful, peaceful place with lovely walking trails, butterflies everywhere, and charming vintage cottages that made us feel like we stepped back in time.
There were cows, sheep, goats, and chickens, which the kids absolutely loved. It was such a joy to see them so excited and curious. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, enjoy nature, and make simple, sweet memories as a family. I’m so glad we went, and we’ll definitely be back again.
Beautiful/Sweet Park where you can look at Animals while learning about the Piscataway history. There’s a Visitor Center with I believe a gift shop as well. Last time I was there (in the Center) was in the Summer of 2019 so I don’t know if they’re still open post Covid but hopefully they will be. Great park to go to nonetheless👍
Great place to visit with a lot of history well explained. The visitor center has ice and a gifts. We bought a book that was about the history of native Americans in the area and we love it. A lot of Animals and trails that you can also walk with children. You can bring your dog.
Great historic Colonial farm that allows tourists to walk through the old structures and garden. There is access to a fishing pier overseeing the Poto River and there are sheep, goats, and cattle on-site.
This farm has great views. But only do you get to enjoy the scenery, but you can walk around and see the farm animals as well. I always have a great time when visiting the park.
If you have small children, the fairy trail is a must. They have a few cute fairy houses along the trail. Mount Vernon can be spotted in the distance across the river. There also is a colonial garden full of all the things people would have grown in this area around 1770.
Nice free park with lots of trails. You can spend a few hours walking trails, there's one trail that's characterized as "moderate" and all other trails as "easy." Kids will definitely enjoy doing both. You can also spend a few minutes looking at animals. We saw geese, cows, roosters, sheeps, a turkey (yes only one lol) and a bunny hopping the trails with us! It was lots of fun and very relaxing. The houses and farms were okay. I didn't really enjoy looking at the houses. Also, if you are into reading about the places you are seeing, most of the boards are unreadable. Overall, this place is perfect for a date or a family outing on a nice weather.
So many trails! We had a lot of fun walking around- we were doing the Fairy Trail and only got to see 4 out of the 8 because we were getting turned around too many times. But it has great trails, and fishing locations... and the fairy houses are amazing!
Definitely going back to finish the fairy trail! 😁
Great site and the staff and presentations are great. The wharf views of Mt. Vernon and the River are great. The animals are awesome and the walk is so nice.
This lovely park in Maryland on the Potomac River is directly opposite Fort Hunt Park in Alexandria. Nice trail to the National Colonial Farm. The mulberry trees had fruit that we picked and ate. Delicious. Views of the river are spectacular from the docks. Visited in May 2021
This is a great spot for a short nature walk. There is a bit of history and preservation to explore as well. Livestock is kept here and can be viewed from a safe distance and behind electrified fences. A short bird trail can be found behind the gift shop with markers to demonstrate pollination facts to young children. The parking area is unimproved (muddy) and is best accessed with high clearance vehicles.
Little bit muddy today after the rain yesterday but it was fun walking around with our granddaughters. We spent some time feeding the pigs carrots and stopped by to see the chickens and turkey. There were lots of sheep and a couple of Rams. Very nice place to spend a few hours walking around.
This park is open to the public with free access to see animals, waterside, plenty of picnic tables for the family and plenty of space to separate yourselve from other people in the great outdoors during Covid. It also has public dock access if you arrive from a boat. Dock located directly across from Mt Vernon on the Potomac. We love taking the kids here, plenty of trails to get lost on and they have a fairy trail that keeps the kids entertained. Best of all, everything is free, including parking.
Nice area to explore. We saw pigs, chickens and goats. The path is easy to follow. You walk along the lake or walk on the pier for a view. If you have little kids they will enjoy hunting for the fairy houses. Very cute. The parking lot is ample and there arw porta potties. Plenty of space for safe social distancing.
A local hidden gem that our kids never get tired of. There is really so much to see, do and experience. You can also run around near the little water spots. The animals are fub the caretakers are amazing all around. Best yet, it's free
We greatly enjoyed our Saturday morning visit to this hidden gem of a place with its many good walking trails, and a cheerful barnyard area showcasing lively ducks & chickens, cows, turkeys, and sheep. The well-maintained docks on the Potomac offer stirring, close-up views of the river -- and a beautiful panorama of Mt. Vernon on the far shore.
The National Colonial Farm at Piscataway Park is the cutest little place. My daughter and I went this weekend, where they were hosting two events, one for dogs on Saturday and candle dipping on Sunday. There are wonderful views of the Potomac and Mount Vernon. You can go fishing from the dock or even launch a kayak. The visitor center provides excellent information before you get started. The staff is extremely kind and helpful. Prices are great and they have a good amount of cool things. The animals at the farm heritage animals and are extremely well taken care of. There are pigs, sheep, cows, and chickens. On the weekends, the staff wear traditional colonial dress and can answer all sorts of historical questions. We have been getting a lot of rain recently so the trails were a bit soggy but not too bad. It was fairly stroller friendly if you have a good stroller but bonus if your kids can walk. I had my uppababy and it did just fine but I don't think an umbrella stroller would have done well. It isn't too much walking around the farm to see all the animals, the garden, and buildings. There are many trails around the farm for hiking and dogs are allowed. We will definitly be visiting again in the future!
Its a great place to hangout and for fishing. Some times they have colonial events where staffs stay dressed in Colonial outfits and describe the early Colonial life..
