Oh boy let me tell you about an angel in disguise, Officer Slayter. It has been a rough couple weeks and when I say this officer went above and beyond for me I mean it. Last minute of the last day I could get my car and here he is with a friendly smile making sure it happens. Stayed a few minutes past closing and everything. I legit cried a little right there in that impound lot office. If any bigwigs out here at LMPD read this review, my man deserves a raise, a promotion, a chocolate fountain, and an entire litter of puppies. <3

I’m a military veteran who resides in the downtown area. I just read a story about the metro impoundment lot auctioning off unclaimed vehicles. After discussing with coworkers about my vehicle being towed during street cleanings every year while I’m on vacation I learned that other areas of the city don’t have to worry about their vehicles being towed during street cleaning days. It is unjust for them to target those living downtown. Luckily for me I’ve been able to go pick up my vehicle every year it gets towed. There are others who are working tax paying citizens who don’t have the funds to retrieve their vehicles. Tax paying law abiding citizens getting their vehicles towed because they are not home to move the vehicle for street cleaning. I’ve seen abandoned vehicles sit for months without being towed. Yet those who live downtown have to stress out every time they take a vacation or are admitted into the hospital. Our vehicles are being taken from in front of our homes. It isn’t right. Now how many of those vehicles getting auctioned off once belonged to hard working tax payers whose vehicles were towed from in front of their homes?

Just spoke with Officer Slater and he was very helpful with giving us the information we would need to get our sons car out after being stolen while we was visiting down in Louisville. He went above and beyond with his service and just being kind and friendly goes a long way.

Very friendly and helpful staff , it was super hot in there, I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must be for the poor people who work there. I saw a tiny portable AC inside their office, surely the city can provide better accommodations for the public servants they employ. At least 90 degrees Fahrenheit inside if not hotter. And those folks are dressed in full uniform with safety vest. Technically I think they call these places sweat shops. How the staff keeps such a positive demeanor in that heat I have no idea

Went to get a signature from them so i can transfer the title and they tell me they don't know when I'll be able to get one because their manager is out until further notice. Now i can't move on with my life because i can't title my car to be able to get it inspected so i can drive it and get a better job or spend more time with my children.

I live in FL but my car was stolen and needed to be impounded at this place. I had to come back to FL and didn’t know how I was going to get my car released to someone else. Officer Slater helped my family members out tremendously with providing the information needed to make this process as smooth and quick as possible for myself and them as the process has already been stressful as is. You can tell he cares about the people he’s servicing and really likes his job. Thanks again for all of the help!

Guy working the office was an ass! Only gave 2 stars because no one stole anything out of our truck.

The officer representing this unit was not friendly at all, considering the fact that my father was mugged and carjacked he showed no sympathy. not that he was supposed to, but it’s like he acts every person who walks through his door is a criminal. Not very helpful. No guidance was given. you ask him simple questions he makes you feel retarded as if we’ve done this before. Very speedy recovering the car but everything else was horrible

Although the staff was kind, I am giving this company 1 star due to their lack of understanding and poor reasoning. They towed my car because my parking pass was not visible on the dashboard. It had fallen on the floorboard without me realizing it, and after showing staff my correctly dated and filled out pass, they showed no grace. They likely saw that it had fallen onto the floorboard, because when I arrived at the company, their first and only argument was that the pass had to be on the dashboard. This “policy” was also not stated on any sign, on the parking pass, or anywhere at all to my knowledge. I cannot fathom anyone who may be living paycheck to paycheck having to deal with the greed of this company. Again, the staff was pleasant and friendly, but in line with the other reviews, grace should be given where grace is due.

I just want to formally say that Mr. Slater is a wonderful guy and he is great at his job. Very friendly, definitely the face of the impound lot! We came to get my sister’s car and he went above and beyond to ensure she was able to see her vehicle and also drive off with it. My sister has went through so much over the last few days and just him keeping the environment around us safe and friendly was just an all around awesome experience! Thank you again Mr. Slater your an awesome person! Thank you for your services and what all you do to keep this community safe and making it an easy calm process.

This place, is horrible. They do not care if your car sits on their lot open and exposed to the elements. I was in a hit and run accident. My vehicle was taken to this place. But because it is a new vehicle to us. But because It is still in the car lots name they won't let me go and get my items out and close the sun roof as it is going rain tomorrow. THEY DO NOT CARE!! THEY DO NOT CARE THE MY ITEMS AND THE CARS INTERIORS WILL BE RUINED. If I could give zero stars I would

My car was stolen without my permission, but Officer Matt Slater was incredibly helpful both on the phone and in person when I arrived. Despite the long drive over an hour, he made the process incredibly smooth and easy.

Worse experience I've my life to screamed at by a angry blonde lady around 60 years old , to be yelled at like a child . I am 52 years old I don't like to be talked down and that was my experience wow they should be shut down

Can’t express enough how great Matt Slater was at the impound lot! My car ended up here after being stolen and he was so informative, compassionate, and helpful. He made a stressful experience much better and gave us such great info. We went out of our way to make sure we went back the next day when he was working and only want to work with him if we ever need to. Great guy! Appreciate him so much

Called with general inquiry. Rude, unhelpful, and unfriendly man answered. Made it sound like any officer can decide to tow a vehicle, even if legally parked for less than a day, for little or no reason.

Matt Slater was absolutely AMAZING! He was patient, gave us very thorough and helpful information, answered all questions, and most of all he was one of the kindest human beings you could meet. So grateful so have had such a positive experience on a somewhat difficult situation because of Matt!

I was there in July for my boyfriends car and again today for my own and I was so happy to see the attendant was Matt Slater. Both times he’s been extremely helpful and pleasant throughout the whole process. Although I hope we don’t meet this way again, if I ever have to go back I hope it’s Matt workin’.

If you're looking to purchase a vehicle from the louisville metro impound auction you should know a few things. They don't provide Odometer statements, keys, no guarantee if the vehicle runs. You will NOT!! get a clean title it will be branded with mileage not actual.meaning the vehicle is worth thousands less because of the lack of mileage statement. They are extremely careful to take their pictures hiding as much body damage as possible. There WILL be additional damage you didnt account for. Also the people at the impound lot are the most rude people you will ever deal with aside from one lady I've spoken too. They also are in zero rush to do your paperwork if you call asking for your paperwork good luck getting them to even look for it. The people at auctions asap are nice and easy to deal with but after buying 8 cars from this auction I don't believe it's worth the time/hassle involved as well as vehicles are going for top dollar. For junk condition I sure wish I could sell some junk cars through this auction because I could make some serious money! And the last tid bit it's going to cost you atleast $150 per car to tow it off their lot since they absolutely won't allow it any other way. If you've never been to the lot before they will talk down to you and treat you like crap.

The clerk at the desk M. Slayer is one of the nastiest, most rude clerks I've ever encountered. He definitely needs some public relations classes. The lot also tried to make things difficult in order to eventually auction you car off.. Terrible place indeed.

Yesterday was Saturday right after the Black Friday, I went to the impound lot to pick up my recovered stolen car. There was a really nice, professional officer at the desk, I think his name was Cissel. The process was really smooth, he checked the required doc's, everything was good except the missing police report. I went to the LFPL at Bardstown Rd, and printed the report and went back to the lot. He released my car once he got the report. Thank you to the LMPD and to Mr.Cissel!!!

Sad to say but they are not different than delincuents . They will want you to pay enormous amount of money for your stolen property even if you bring the paperwork they ask u and u are still into the 21 days period of time in wich according to the Lmpd website they are. Not suposted to charge you for when you are going to get your stolen property back . I USED TO BELIEVE IN THE POLICE NOT ANYMORE NOW .

These guys are rough. Can’t do much about it because they are government. I brought all the paperwork to get a stolen vehicle out of impound. And then they asked for other papers that are not required by law. I see this is a common issue. If anyone would be willing to do a class action law suit then like this post, if we get enough then I may put my contact info and we can get a game plan.

My truck was stolen and never could get it out. Once I found it, the office workers weren't of ANY HELP! Whenever you call the guy working the front was always rude, very hate. Anytime that you call, he will always puts you on hold. He's expecting you to hang up. You're going to be on hold for awhile. I really believe that he's trying to give everyone a hard time that walks through the door. It wasn't just me. He's gotta be making something extra for each vehicle that he's able to sell at their auction. Quit your job if you hate it that much, because your terrible at your job. It's hurting hard working people that are already going through a terrible time. If a person is coming here, it's to get answers/help. The 2 workers that I dealt with, older guy and a middle aged woman were both rude and weren't of any help. They both told me to bring my title, insurance, and a licensed driver, and they would release my truck. I literally did everything they told me to do. Then, he came up with more reasons why he wouldn't release my truck. They wasted more of my money, several days and hours of my life that I'll never get back just for them to tell me it's being auctioned off! This is unacceptable! I'm out of a $7,500 truck... One day, KARMA will catch up with you.

The absolute worst of the worst. Vehicle was stolen and recovered so called to check what I needed to do to take possession and all I was told was a police report. Go up there to be told that I needed an appointment, come back AGAIN to be denied my vehicle because the tow truck was 10 minutes away. I have never experienced service this awful, not to mention I had to WAKE UP the man working the desk. I can not emphasize HOW BAD.

Worst I have ever been treated. My husband had a wreck this morning was in the emergency room for 4 hours was told to take it easy. We went by to get his personal items out of his truck. They said he had to go by himself, I told the guy that there were to many items and he said well he can make several trips or come back with help. I wanted to say what am I....very disappointed in the system here!

I showed up and walked in at 1:21 PM only to find out they had a sign in the window that stated closed daily from 1:30 PM to 2:10 PM. for shift change. I tried to talk to the guys standing inside the window, and ask them why they were closed nine minutes early, but they just gave me a dirty look and went on about their sitting with their feet propped up on their desk. I called my boss and told him that he needs to put everything on hold at our towing business, as I would be waiting for a while. At about 2:17 PM someone came to the window and took the sign down, and looked at me like I was stupid without saying a word, which I guess was his way of asking "can I help you". So I gave him the paperwork and a check, and he gave me a receipt and told me what row number the vehicle was in that I was picking up. So I loaded the vehicle on my truck then proceeded to leave. I then drove out to meet a friend for lunch, at which point I called Louisville Metro Tow Line to report to them that I have picked this vehicle up and will be towing it to our lot for storage until it gets picked up by the auction. Which is procedure for every vehicle that is to be "Impounded" or "Towed". At that time they tell me that they are sending an officer out because this vehicle is stolen. The officers show up and are lost as they called their supervisor for advice. At this point it is approaching 4:30 PM. They then tell me that I have to tow this vehicle back down to the city impound lot and give it back. So they escort me back down there, I walk in and tell them that I have to get the check back that was given to them to pay the fees to release it. They try to tell me that they can't give it back to me because it was locked in the safe. I told them if they wanted the vehicle that I have to get the check and if I had to I can take it to our lot and they could bring a check there and pick it up at that point. He went and got a supervisor that opened the safe in the floor and gave me the check. I then ask him if there is a specific way to invoice them for the tow and the 4 1/2 hours lost due to their failure to follow protocol. He looked at me and stated "call the mayor". Finally at 5:45 PM I leave there empty handed. I have attached some screenshots of some Louisville ordinances, that apparently show the city impound is above the law and somehow exempt. I would love to know how I can become exempt also.
