My therapist would rather talk about her problems a listen to mine. So I stopped seeing her and just went to see my psychiatrist. She seems to think she knows my body better than me she refuses to prescribe what works best for me. I’ve been at this for 25+ years but she knows more about what works best for me. Then they prescribed medication that interacts with my other medications, my psychiatrist gave me her card and said call at any time you need me. I try and call to no call back. Just left me hanging. The nurse took my call once promising to get ahold of my psychiatrist and would call me back and never did. They mess up on appointments. I wouldn’t recommend them AT ALL.

Don't even waste your time calling, they DO NOT care about helping you. The receptionist will tell you there's nothing they can do then be rude to you when you tell them this is your only option. You'll get off the phone feeling worse than you did before.

This place is horrible. What made it worse is how they claim to do what they do as a "Christian" organization. I was stuck there for four days for a MEDICAL ISSUE, not a mental health one, yet they kept me anyway without cause. Then they neglected to tell me that my insurance wouldn't pay for it, so I received a huge bill. All I did the entire time was sit. There was no therapy and since I can't take meds, they tried manipulation via choosing a loved one as collateral for discharge. The staff and doctors were rude, ignorant, and callous. Now that my faith has grown, I can see that this place is NOT true Christian. If it were, 1. The staff would have had compassion and treated people better, and 2. There would be no psychiatric treatment in the way the world treats those with mental health issues. If you call yourself a believer in Christ, do not support this facility by utilizing their services. Better, truly Christian facilities exist. Healing or effective help won't be found at this facility. Bless you with true healing (without the cruelty).

Unorganized and every time we talk to them the nurses we talk to are rude and hateful.

Dr Hon and Yahara are wonderful as well as the rest of the staff. I enjoyed my hospital stay here as much as one can, given the circumstances 10/10. Food is also not bad and can confirm they’re working on renovations

Was here multiple times for psych and once for alcoholism. I am above middle class, have a degree, and just have bipolar disorder from genetics. The people complaining don’t know how good it is compared to other facilities. The place is clean, the food is great, and the staff is amazing. Please remember the people reviewing this place have issues and can be handful. Most people who have problems at places like this, unless it is filthy, create their own problems.

This is the only place I've ever known to turn someone away because they feel more comfortable sitting to them and because they live in Rice County. That's so won't and rude of you. Your not supposed to turn PEOPLE AWAY!

One of the best facilities I have ever stayed at. Staff is awesome. The best doctors. If I ever have to make a choice to go into a inpatient facility this is the number one choice I would recommend and I've been to 17 different facilities in my life

Jerked a suicidal loved one around for 2.5 weeks, promising availability the next day and the next day and the next day. Giving someone in crisis hope for 2.5 weeks with no follow through is bad enough. Then they didn't clarify prior to admittance that visitation was by appointment only. Nor did they bother to tell this loved one they needed to set up some code to give would-be visitors to tell the desk so they can schedule a visit 24 hrs in advance. (WORSE, patient signed a medical release form for me so that all of this nonsense COULD have been bypassed if staff knew what they were doing and kept track of documents they have for the 10 patients they have per wing) And you can't even reach your loved one to inform them of this problem without this code they require, so you'll be sitting up there alone and no idea why until you get your 15 minute a day call to the outside. Its like a prison almost! They're effectively isolating sick people from their loved ones and making visiting a nightmare because they can't get organized. Staff was rude on the phone to both of us besides, which is the part that led to a bad review. Disorganized, fine. Things happen. Rude not fine. Especially not when dealing with something as stressful as a loved one in a mental health crisis. Used to be this was better than Good Shepherd but clearly not the case anymore. Go to Good Shepherd, its a shorter drive and cheaper. If you're gonna get sh*tty care and deal with rude, uncaring staff you don't need to drive to Newton for that!

Waited months for an Appointment I had scheduled with this place, had to cancel do to being out of town. Told me on the phone while I was canceling that I could do the appointment over zoom, and then turned back around and said my insurance wouldn’t cover the appointment over zoom while I was in Oklahoma for the week. Which made absolutely no sense. So, Waited a few MORE months, for them to inform me my appointment isn’t in their system. But, if I would like to make another one I can be seen in three more months!! No organization, and they run people around in circles. Needless to say, these people definitely need someone else making appointments.Terrible staff

Best place ever for psychiatric help! Got my meds right and very friendly in all my needs. Amazing groups and therapist and case workers! Food isn’t bad like other places. You get your own room and bathroom you get privacy and get to close your room doors. You can go outside where they have a gazebo. They have a gym. You can wear your own clothes! They will work with your insurance to get you more days if you need it! It’s a safe place and you can definitely trust the staff! I would go there instead of saint Joseph psychiatric and even state hospital oawatomie or larned. Thank you for all the help you have given me through the years!

The Doctor who prescribed Seroquel for sleep will have to answer to God for such a horrific treatment. Weight gain of 100#, could not think on this med, ZERO hours of sleep. DAMN this place. Shame on the Social Worker who knew alternate treatments for Insomnia.

This rating is subject fro revision, Last week I was told to move to Ottawa and that arrangements was made by several staff members from Ottawa Elizabeth Layton Center and those of Prairie View, I went to the trouble and expense of putting 90% of my belongings into storage and discarding several items. The relocation never happened. Also, Prairie View in Newton does not have sidewalks for a couple hundred feet to and from their location which puts clients without motor vehicle transportation at the risk of being struck by a vehicle. there is no place for someone to step out of the way in the event of traffic on the left side of the road coming from downtown Newton. It is somewhat difficult to get into a doctor or worker here in Newton and Prairie View is no exception. Since 2016 I have lost three houses and have relocated 16 and 1/2 times. False promises in Kansas have guaranteed almost failure in my getting another home in the near future in my opinion. The faculty and Staff at Prairie View are very friendly and knowledgeable but do not have enough staff to meet ongoing needs in my opinion. The facility is very clean but older and needs Interior design renovation. (6-20-20) In my opinion, I don't think they have the financial resources to serve the demand due to Wichita being so close.

I was a patient here with suicidal depression. The staff singled me out in front of 30+ other people. Called me "playing the cute card" I considered ending my life at this place. Still paying the $6800 bill after insurance. Was hell to me. I despise this scam/useless business scheme.

This place is absolutely horrible. It doesn't matter to them if you have been taking a high dosage of medication for days or years. If you miss one appointment they will refuse to refill it for you and force you to be absolutely miserable until you can get in with the psychiatrist again (no matter if you beg them on the phone or not because you know how horrible the withdrawals are). I am in the middle of a full blown crisis because of this and I can't see my doctor until Friday. It has been 4 days without my medication and I am at my breaking point. This place has no care or regard for any of their patients and only want your money. After Friday, I will be switching to a different mental health company, even though I have been loyal to Prairie View for years and years. Do NOT take your kids or family here unless you want them to suffer!

Barbera walker is the worst therapist I have ever been to in my life. She once called me on my cell phone, yelled at me and chewed me out, made me cry and then hung up on me. Its no wonder the only place she can keep a job is a clinic like prairie view

Had my daughter admitted and she had out patient services. They never told me that Out patient was not covered under my insurance so I am out money, they will not disclose the total cost and the bills just keep coming.

This place is horrible. Do not, I repeat do not take your kids or any family here. And avoid Deb Vanderwig at all cost! All they do is lie, give you wrong meds to keep you coming back and they will threaten to take your kids away if you discipline them or do anything against them. They just want your money!

Staff is very friendly and helpful. The waiting area and restrooms are always very clean. They have a cafeteria and free coffee or tea.

This place is horrible! My husband has severe anxiety and depression and was only able to see a nurse instead of a psychiatrist for medication. She didn't listen to him, rushed him through appointments, and prescribed 3 different meds by just guessing, each one giving him worst side effects than the last. It was like he was her guinea pig. We finally got on Medicaid for financial help and they said he couldn't go there anymore, even if he paid out of pocket. So they just threw my husband to the curb when he needs help the most. What a bunch of selfish, corrupt losers!

Fantastic treatment! The facility is a little dated but that's just cosmetic. Considering it is a not for profit hospital, it's no big deal to me. The mental health unit is phenomenal. The health staff is extremely helpful, genuine and caring. The food is pretty good as well. Thank you to all of the Mental health workers, social worker and Doctors. I am a veteran suffering from PTSD, depression and anxiety. If you are suffering from anxiety, depressionor suicidal ideations this is the place for you. The staff helped me regain hope in the future! Thanks again.

(I was there for a week in Sept. 2014) Awful, the doctor in charge ignored my issues, talked down to me, and was terrible to other patients as well, he even threatened one who was a nurse to take away her license because "Suicidal people are a hazard to others" the activities they had to help and rehabilitate people were terrible, most the time people were stuck just sitting around. The only person who seemed to remotely care was the group therapy counselor. It was so bad I faked being fine to get out, because this place will do more harm then good for anyone with depression.

When my life plummeted into a spiral of depression and anxiety, a mental health specialist referred me to Prairie View. Everyone I worked with here was wonderful, which is really special for an environment that can get pretty stressful. If you truly feel you have no other direction, sometimes you just need a bit of constant support to get you back on your feet. Prairie View more than did that for me.

Wonderful, kind and knowledgeable staff, excellent help with mental health issues with a focus on follow on care and getting back to a well balanced life. I recommend Prarie view for anyone who is struggling with anxiety and depression. My stay was absolutely wonderful! Not something you would normally read about a hospital! But true!
