Took my kids’ 2009 Subaru outback in because of a problem with the tire light turning on. Jeff was very nice and helpful, explained everything to me thoroughly, and answered all my questions. They even checked for other things I did not ask them to check for and I very much appreciate that. They charged a reasonable price. They are trustworthy and do not try to rip you off with added expenses. They also have a very impressive lobby. ?
Will never be returning here. Scheduled an appointment for an exhaust to be fixed on 12/22. No one reached out about an update so we called on 12/23 just to be told that they “didn’t have time” until middle of January and no one told us this until we called for an update. This is the second time the communication has been absolute trash and we will never return. We’ve been down a vehicle since 12/20 as we were under the impression that the truck would be getting fixed. Wouldn’t recommend.
In early 2024, I took my Jeep to Unique because I started noticing a coolant smell. They informed me that I needed three new camshafts, a repair that cost several thousand dollars. When I picked up the vehicle, I also paid an additional $1,000 for four new tires. At that point, I was advised to trade the Jeep in immediately due to “known issues,” despite the fact that it had never previously broken down or shown any signs of trouble other than the coolant odor. It was frustrating that they mentioned this only after I had already purchased the tires.
The very next day, while driving my daughter to tennis practice, I noticed a strong smell of fuel. I contacted Unique, and they towed my Jeep back to their shop—charging me $85 for a tow less than seven miles. They later claimed that two fuel injectors were stuck open, leading to yet another expensive repair, while denying any connection to their previous work.
Less than a month later, the Jeep completely broke down while I was merging onto 421 in heavy rain, nearly causing an accident with a semi-truck. I contacted them again, and once more they arranged a short tow for $85. This time, I was told the timing chain had come loose, which destroyed the engine, and they quoted an $8,000 estimate for a used engine with 60,000 miles on it.
When I asked how the timing chain could have come loose right after major engine work involving the camshafts, I was told they had never touched the timing chain—something that didn’t make sense given the nature of the repair. As a single mom without anyone to help question their diagnosis, I felt completely taken advantage of. Both issues seemed like clear mistakes they refused to take responsibility for. Since then, I’ve learned that several friends and neighbors have had similar experiences with this shop. I truly regret not researching them more thoroughly beforehand, and to make things worse, the coolant smell never went away. It wasnt until I took it to another mechanic who found that my radiator cap had failed and was causing the coolant smell. What could have been a $13 fix costed me over $10,000.
It’s unfortunate when it feels like honesty and accountability have taken a back seat. It really shouldn’t be that hard to acknowledge mistakes and set things right, but too often it seems that greed wins over simple values and doing the right thing.
Absolutely amazing place! I have a car that was limited production and I try to do all the work I can myself on it because I'm picky and care about it probably too much. It had a hard to find issue that left 2 mechanics confused who did too little in too much time. This place knew exactly what was wrong within 24 hours and did a great job with repairs. Left no damage, spare parts etc and my car has never ran better. Extremely professional and Denise at the front desk was both pleasant and knowledgeable. I now have a shop i can trust and could not be happier!
Highly suggest you drive right past this place....took my truck in to get an estimate of how much it would cost to replace 2 part's on my truck i knew were bad.....had to leave my truck there to get an estimate for it for one because owner wasn't there and mechanics were to busy to talk to me when I asked to speak to one....and when finally called with an estimate and said shop rates are 105 dollars an hour I decided to go to another garage in Delphi because their shop rates are 60 an hour.....however when I got there to get my truck I was told I have to pay a diagnosis fee for them to tell me what I ask them to do for me.....which at no point was I told there would be a diagnosis fee until I got back there to get my truck.....so I went to Napa garage and they installed the highest quality parts I could find and only charged me half what this place wanted....hell even Ford garage in lafayette doesn't charge that for a shop rate......so if you're like me and work for a living ....drive another mile and save your money.....same quality work and warranty for half the price.......and Highly doubt you will pay a diagnosis fee for something you already know is wrong with your vehicle and only asked how much to do..never been ripped off like that before.....drive on past if you value your money and don't have it to waste..it's bad enough when your vehicle goes down and needed to fix it without someone taking advantage of the situation and charging me for something I asked how much to fix...I didn't need a diagnosis I knew what the problem was. ....and their diagnosis was exactly what I ask them how much to fix.
Check Engine light came on for Tundra. Was able to drop it off today and they did diagnostic check to determine faulty part vs just throw replacement parts at problem. It was fixed about 6 hours after drop off with no prior appointment. Extremely pleased with all the work they have done on my 2 vehicles, 2004 Toyota Tundra and 2005 Subaru WRX. Much better experience than I have had at dealerships for maintenance on these 2 vehicles. Thank you, Mike Harbeck
I was referred to this shop by a friend. I needed a weld done and they squeezed it in that day. Very nice office waiting area. There's a couch in there and not just the standard BMV chairs that make you wish the owners name was kevorkian. Super friendly, very knowledgeable owner. I'd trust them with any exhaust job.
Owner belligerent and a bully. When experiencing problem after repair s they refused. Asked if labor warranted . Reply was that if a part fell off, manufacture would warranty. Would advise to go elsewhere. Wish I had asked around before. Found out too late from others .
Jeff and Josh have always taken very good care of my vehicles and they won't charge near as much as a dealership. I highly recommend Unique Automotive!
