I have been taking my vehicles to Carlton Auto for 20+ years. They are reliable, affordable, honest, and very thorough. They take the time to explain what is wrong and how they will fix it, often providing diagnosis and service the same day when possible. I have only interacted with Renee and Russ, but they are both very friendly and approachable. They are truly people you can trust. I highly recommend Carlton Auto.

Russ is the best at Carlton. They are honest about what really needs repairs unlike dealerships.

I trust these guys to do a good job on my car and be considerate too. They did that yesterday for an oil change, called me to say I needed a filter too and gave me a price for new tires which I had asked about last oil change. They did it all quickly so I didn't even need to borrow a friends car to go to an appointment. I was referred by a friend and heartily recommend Russ and Bob.

Really excellent customer service and quality work. They were able to squeeze me in and repair my car with a quick turn around. I have been burned by some shops in the area so I really appreciate their quality of service and decent pricing. I think it was Russ that we spoke with - he was great! Thank you!!

Just called this place amongst five other places I call the never done business with this place before and after talking to somebody on the phone I don't think I ever will. I already know what I want for a part and wanted to get a estimate and these people seemed a little challenged with that and said I had to bring the car in. Why do I have to bring my car in when I already no what part I need replaced. If they can't give me a price, how the heck are they supposed to be qualified to even work on the car is what I'm thinking. They just lost a potential for a ongoing customer cuz my last two places closed for business, so they just blew it with me

After the tow service jump started our Sienna, the guy told us our alternator was the problem, so I took it to Carlton Auto Repair. Carlton charged the battery all day, tested the alternator, and reported that it was all good. The vehicle just needs to be driven more regularly. They easily could have replaced the alternator, charged me a bunch, and I would have been none the wiser. I've always had a good experience with this shop. Highly recommend. Honesty is hard to come by in the auto repair world. But honesty is abundant at Carlton. They are trustworthy, extremely competent, and thoroughly knowledgeable. If there isn't something that needs fixing, they will tell you so and not charge you. I know I am getting accurate information from their assessments and can rest easy knowing that the direction I choose to go with my repairs is based on the real needs of my vehicle.

A great auto shop in Wheaton. I had some noise coming from the rear of my car and was concerned. I drove it there and they were able to work my car in even though I didn't have an appointment and had never been there before. The owners were so nice and thoroughly explained everything and even had the car done in only a few hours. I'll definitely be back for my next service. Highly recommended and reputable shop. I recently acquired a 2014 Mazda CX-5 used with about 130k miles on it. I took it to Carlton Auto at the recommendation of the original owner. I mainly interacted with Bob who was very personable, professional, and descriptive. He recommended replacing of 2 belts, 2 ball joints, and battery replacement / clean up of terminals, and explained his reasoning behind each repair. I believe the car was ready within 48 hours, and at a price I felt to be perfectly reasonable. The team even went out of their way to secure a loose part in the wheel well area that was previously held up with tape at no extra charge. I then drove this car 1700 miles out to California through desert temperatures topping 118 with no issues. Thank you again Carlton Auto Team; I can’t recommend you guys enough and will definitely be back if I’m back in IL with any automotive needs. - Mike

I love taking my vehicles to Carlton. They are so friendly and I can trust them to shoot straight with me, not recommend work that isn’t necessary, and do it with excellence. I had been a long-time customer of another local shop but lost confidence in their commitment to these things, so I made the switch to Carlton and am so glad I did.

Carlton Auto Repair is as crooked as they come. My young 20-year-old son had brought in his car with tree dash lights on and if you Googled the issues anyone could see what the fix was. He then received a quote of almost $800. After then having him call around to a few other shops and almost everyone being just over $500, they now also want $155 to pick up the car. I 100% understand that they did something, and I wasn’t expecting to pay anything, but $155/hour. The OEM dealerships don’t charge this much. And it took 1 hour to do this? Way to prey on young kids and also overcharge for the job! This is exactly why there is a stereotype for shops like yours. Do Better!!!

I always received top notch service at a reasonable cost from Carlton Auto Repair. They complete a thorough review of your vehicle before calling you with the service they believe is actually needed. Several times I suggested repairs, and they have correctly told me that those repairs could be safely deferred. They deserve their 5 star reviews!

I had a check engine light go on and took it into to look at. They were very communicative and professional while looking over my car. They also noted that my tires needed replacing and even suggested going else where to save money, but I let them do it. I love them and trust them, so happy to have a mechanic I can trust to be honest about the best choices for my car.

Outstanding, honest service... I was referred to Russ and Bob at Carlton Auto about 25 years ago. They have serviced many cars owned by our family. They are not only competent but honest and fair in their dealings. Recently a dealer service department suggested an expensive repair on my car. Carlton actually repaired it for a fair price rather than simply replace parts for an outrageous price as suggested by the dealer service department. Carlton Auto Repair was originally recommended to me by the person we bought our house in Wheaton from. I’ve been getting my own, and my kids’ cars, inspected and repaired there since. The service is friendly, prompt and I have never had an issue. Having some automotive knowledge, but not being a gear head, I have to rely on the mechanics being honest, and thus far Carlton Auto has never given me reason to doubt their expertise and recommendations with respect to necessary repairs. I can only highly recommend Carlton Auto Repair to anyone that needs help getting their vehicles checked and fixed. As a bonus, locally produced honey is for sale. How could one possibly say “No” to that.

A trust-worthy business is a treasure these days, and Carlton Auto is one! I appreciate their honest appraisal of what my car needs, and friendly help in taking care of any issues. I recently took in our 2003 van for an oil change (after about 18 months of light use) and suggested that maybe the tires should be rotated. Russ determined that the better tires were on the front, so did not recommend rotating them - saving me that cost! Building trust is a sure way to build business; thanks, Carlton Auto!

I noticed a loud rattling noise on my car and took it to Carlton seeing how amazing their reviews have been. Their great service proved this is be correct since this was my first time coming here and they took care of my issue within a couple hours after I dropped my car off. I have been taking my automobiles to Carlton Auto since 1998 and wouldn't think of taking them anywhere else for repairs. Bob and Russ have always been responsive, honest and I have always felt that their prices are fair. I regularly refer others to use Carlton Auto and will continue to do so. My first experience was when I got a second opinion from them regarding a brake job. The told me that some of the work Midas was suggesting was not necessary and was able to do the repairs I needed for much less. More recently, I had an older car towed to their parking lot over a weekend because I thought the transmission was shot. At the last minute, I made the decision to sell it to a salvage yard for $300. Bob called me on Monday morning and said he thought the problem was something other than the transmission. He said the decision, of course, was mine, but he could fix for a nominal amount. I was relieved and had the repair done. Kept the car for about a year and traded it in--still running for $800. These guys are great.
