Def if you're low on hours truckers don't do it. 4 hour wait time no matter what. And setup is horrible. To sum it all up quick,For my situation. The office and ground personal we're confused and I paid for it. Was sent out of the yard and sent to rescale when not needed. Just needed my bills back
The place is very hard to navigate at first and I don't like the fact that you have three phases to get paid, scale, office and ATM. The guy running the scale was very helpful and all the guys on the ground giving directions speak English for the most part and are helpful. My only suggestion would be to identify the material right at the scale so we need to know exactely where to dump.

The President of United Scrap spoke in English and Spanish to the crowd.
There were all kinds of things for the kids and the tour of the facility was the highlight!
You could tell that the employees were well taken care of. They had family at the event and those that were working were encouraged to eat and enjoy the music.
Hurray also for the many volunteers that helped with tours, grilling burgers and hot dogs, face painting, bead building, 3d printing, hard hat distribution ad so much more.
What a great company and a great partnership!
So the new way to get your money is by the ATM. You get your receipt with a bar code. You scan it and you get your money. The only thing I don't like is that they round off the cents. So in my case -.34 cents. With all the traffic they get. They are pocketing all the change. Don't look good right.
I loaded here. Got loaded quickly with empty cable reels. I was in and out less than a hour. They will come to your truck and give you the bills after you pull outside the entry and exit gate.
The truck entrance is 15th pl. Once you pull in there they get right on directing you to where you should be. The scale is mostly one way except if you load or unload in the docks facing the scale. There is a stairway to the right of the scale as you pull in that you need to go see after getting on the scale. You don't need to on the way out I don't think unless you are picking up there. They help guide you into the docks and around the yard and they seem to be pretty competent in that especially the old grey haired guy. They have porta potties for us lowly drivers. The only real part of delivering here is they leave all the scraps in the trailer for you to deal with, apparently after you have left there because they direct you out quickly once you are empty. Aside from them leaving their trash in your trailer it wasn't too bad but you can expect to spend at least two hours here.
Outstanding! There’s a small but very visible sign for trucker’s entrance at 15th Place. Someone in high-vis meets you driving in, directs you where to park, asks if you’re picking up or delivering. I was picking up, so he got my pickup number and destination, called it inside by radio, got a photo of my CDL and PU#, and told me exactly where and how to proceed. Pulled onto the scale, verified my info over the squawk box, pulled off into a u-turn , and stopped to open my trailer doors and slide my tandems. Another guy in high-vis guides you safely and efficiently in backing into your loading door. They had me loaded in about 30 minutes, and yet another guy in high-vis appeared at my window to verify my info, guide me out onto the scale, and directed me where to park and wait. A very friendly woman came out to me withe my papers and seal, waited for me to close my doors (and for me to move up a few feet out of a pothole so my dooors were aligned to close), put the seal on, and i was on my way.
This place is a very busy and efficient, well-oiled machine, and i have never in my years of driving been in a location that takes better care of truckers. The people are friendly, professional, and efficient, and the location is safe and clean, in spite of the volume of traffic and nature of its business. I would never hesitate to come here again—they are that good! Thank you for the excellent work you do!
After reading the reviews for this place I was sweating bullets, about having to back a 53-foot trailer here. Especially have to drive through my hometown of Cicero il, she's not truck-friendly. How when I got here they told me how the setup works and they have people watching and ready to help. Good place got in and out no problems.
Overall not too bad experience. Many workers guide you what do you need to do. A lil tight in some places, but drivers with experience will not have a problem to back in. Over the road drivers if you haul heavy load and your treiler wheels not all the way back in, MAKE SURE slide tandems all the way back in before you come here so you wont have a problem to swing on scale.
So one scale to come in and out on not a good setup, takes longer to get in and out to unload. If your over the road driver plan on 4 hours like I said you will spend most of your time waiting for scale. The workers make up for the long wait great people they will help you and unload was fast.
Truckers STAY AWAY ! Wait time to just get in to the scale from the street is 45-60min. Then they will send you 2 blocks down the street to wait for 2-4 hours befor they give you a door, 2 more hours at the door. I missed my reload.. I was there from 9:30 am to 4pm, this people have no respect for other people bussiness. I have to spend 3 days empty in chicago now, till monday.. also no toilet for Truckers !
About average prices, but better than most smaller places that only give you top dollar 750lbs and above. The place is huge so your in and out quickly. Lines are longer on the weekends though .
Just wow. Thanks for watching out for me and not letting me destroy my own trailer while backing into door 10. They got a system there it can be overwhelming at first but it works. Was loaded fast once I got a dock. Maybe 40 min wait for the dock out on empty lot around the corner 20 min load 30 min to scale and get bols. It's a cluster "puck" but they manage it to work to get back on scale. Takin one start off is waiting for bols took longer then to load.
For scrap yard not bad at all. Well organized, helpful staff. Usually I don't deliver to scrap yards but this business is more then ok. I hope delivery will be fast and I will not have flat tire.
Out in 2 hours, clean trailer, no flat tire.

Very friendly workers. Super busy lot but they have a couple of people directing traffic inside of lot and they do a really good job at it. They also help you get backed into docks since the inbound traffic lines up in front of the docks to get on scale. As far as the lot goes it is kind of tight but managable and yes there is some debris on the ground but nothing to big as to puncture a semi tire unless you are running bald tires in which case you being too cheap to get proper tires is not their fault. Can take a little bit to get turned back out onto Cicero ave, just be patient and hammer on it when you see an opening. It took 1.5 hours total to get checked in, unload and checked out and they did sweep out trailer after unloading so that makes it nice
Been here twice, took more than two hours each time, both times had to back up twice on the dock due to wrong loading. But people are nice and helpful. They guide you very well through this congested place.
For truck drivers. Delivered 13 skids of aluminum plates took me obout 4 hours, not because they are lazy, they work hard here and they're very nice, employees interact drivers where to go and what to do. This place is just buzzy . If you are truck driver getting pay by the hour don't worry, if you are Owner Operator make sure to get extra money from broker . I would come back for delivery or pick-up but extra cash.
I had a delivery and my experience was good. When I got inside there was a person directing all the traffic. told me to get on the scale and go up the stairs to the receiving, he gave me a dock as well #12 which was open and was almost a straight back. When you get off the scale to get in 12 you just u turn slide tandems, open doors and back up he will take the paper work. I was done in about 1.5hrs. Then you have to make a right turn back up and get on the scale again they will tell you you’re good to go from the intercom. And then to get out I had to make a left turn so it took me about 15min to get out on Cicero.
