Unprofessional, cocky, incredibly rude,and showing zero empathy or appreciation to the customer. Three days ago, technicians installed 4 TVs at my Wicker Park location, left 4 boxes by the dumpster, and then left. The next day was the pickup day, and SBC charged $270 to remove those 4 boxes.I called the company after the email didn't resolve the issue. I spoke with one of the managers and told her we didn't know the technician left them there and had no idea there was an extra charge for it. I'm 100 percent honest, I didn't know that, and I asked them if they could give a break and refund $270 FOR ONE TIME. I was told very rudely that it won't happen. When I expressed my frustration, she said she'd talk to someone and that I might get 50% of it if I were lucky. And of course, never heard back. This is nothing but being opportunistic.

I truly can't say enough great things about SBC Waste Solutions.. Between their haulers and all the way up to management and ownership. SBC responds immediately with great service and communication. Our streets are always clean after pick up date, They offer fantastic options with needing to throw away large items, and they go above and beyond to make it right if needed. We are lucky to have their service.

Do not be misled by their marketing. SBC Waste Solutions promotes itself as woman-owned, green, environmentally friendly, and a small business. That was not our experience at all. It is a predominantly male run company. This company is, in our opinion, predatory. We were quoted $75 per month for a small 100-gallon trash tote. What was never clearly disclosed was that the base rate meant almost nothing. Once fees were added, our actual cost ballooned to $170+ per month. Over 11 months, we paid $3,515.37 total, which averages $319.58 per month -- more than 4× the original quote. We were effectively forced into using SBC because the building we occupied initially required all tenants to use their waste provider. That lack of choice mattered. Fees & Contract Issues * The contract includes dozens of fees buried in extremely small print (literally tiny font). * These fees increased the bill by 200%+ compared to the quoted monthly rate. * None of these fees were verbally disclosed during signup. * When confronted, management's response was simply: "You signed the contract." * After months of emails and threats of litigation, they eventually reduced some fees -- clearly indicating they knew the charges were excessive. Customer Service (or lack thereof) There is no real customer service. Every interaction routes through what they openly call "Admin & Legal." That should tell you everything. This company operates more like a law firm disguised as a waste company: * Constant legal language * Aggressive scare tactics * "Pay within X days or we pursue litigation" * Minimum $6,000 buyout to exit a 5-year contract What started as $75/month quickly turned into: * Stay trapped for 5 years, or * Pay $6,000+, or * Be threatened with court Other Red Flags * 6% credit card processing fee (industry standard is ~3%) * Employees were initially rude and difficult to communicate with; later responses appeared AI-translated and extremely cold * Any request for help is met with "refer to the contract" * They aggressively target small businesses, knowing most cannot afford legal counsel to fight a $5-6k dispute * They claim 5-year contracts are "industry standard" -- they are not Advice to Other Small Businesses * Do not sign without having the contract reviewed (use AI or an attorney). * Ask for the true all-in monthly cost, not just the base rate. * Fight for 1-2 year contracts only. * Do not assume "small business" marketing equals ethical behavior. * Check Yelp and BBB reviews -- nearly all complaints describe the same experience. * If threatened, stay calm and file a BBB complaint. This was, without question, the worst business experience we've ever had -- all over trash service. Completely unnecessary, stressful, and avoidable. Do your research. Learn from our mistakes and look elsewhere.

Kylie was amazing!!! she helped solve our auto payment issue immediately and followed up with a wonderful email. The next day that kind of Customerservice is hard to come by and really is a fantastic!! we are so thankful for her and the SBC global team - one of the reasons we chose this trash service company!!

SBC just “picked up” my garbage and recycling but unfortunately they left most of the trash in my driveway. It’s raining and I had to pick up the garbage and put it back in my cans which are now half full again! I don’t think they watch to see if the garbage actually goes into their trucks. Doesn’t seem like they care either or they wouldn’t have left my driveway a big wet mess!

Be careful when you sign contract with SBC as they never put actual value they going to charge for all extra fees and also not specify anywhere about increase in monthly service charge. I strongly recommend to ask for detail contract with terms as they never mentioned 5 year terms. They will randomly increase monthly charge and you can’t do much. We learned our lessons and paid $8000 fees for early termination. We have sign up with other company with monthly fees of $240 vs SBC monthly fee of $625. We also have clarity in contract with other company with cap of maximum 5% increase after one year of service. After two years, another 5% increase and not any other fee. If anyone interested to reduce your monthly bill significantly, please contact me.

**DO NOT WORK WITH SBC WASTE! BE WARNED!** I do not normally leave negative reviews but with my experience, I am hoping no other small business owners have experiences like mine, truly a nightmare. Plain and simple: SBC Waste is an absolutely terrible company. Their customer service is appalling, their communication is nonexistent, and the entire experience has been nothing short of exhausting and infuriating. I signed up after speaking with Eric Flood, under the very clear impression that I was entering a one-year contract at *$120/month. What I actually ended up with was a completely different contract term and monthly charges that suddenly increased without warning. When I tried to get help or clarity, I was bounced around, ignored, and met with zero accountability. Throughout my service, I dealt with incorrect and unauthorized charges, invoices being “fixed” only to be reapplied later, missed trash pickups, locks left undone, dumpsters left in the wrong places, and emails and calls that went unanswered for weeks. Any time I tried to resolve something, I felt stonewalled or brushed aside. When my business was forced to relocate due to the building we were located in being foreclosed on (a devastating and unexpected blow) I reached out to Sandra Barboza hoping for some understanding or even basic human decency. Instead, I was met with strict contract language, zero compassion, and absolutely no willingness to problem-solve. Even after explaining that we were nearly bankrupt and no longer occupying the property, I was pushed toward fees and obligations that made no sense under the circumstances. I have never felt so misled, unsupported, or taken advantage of by a service provider. SBC’s complete lack of empathy, flexibility, or professionalism is staggering. If you’re a small business, especially one operating on tight margins in this economy, please take this as a warning. Read every word, save every email, take photos of their poor service, and be prepared for a fight if anything goes wrong. Because based on my experience, SBC Waste will make your life significantly harder, not easier. What a disappointing and disheartening company to work with.

SBC responded to my previous review and most of points I disagreed as they do specify all extra fees in contract in small print but there is no any upper cap on it. For example, contract specify that SBC will charge environmental fee and once you sign this contarct, you have no control what SBC will charge. To us, they charge 50% of service fee as environment charge. Our service fee is $360 and environment charge is $162 per month. SBC started charging business comliance charge without any notice from nov 2024. When I notice it and contacted sales rep, he responded that we can remove this going forward but cannot give credit for what is already paid. When I asked legal representiative of SBC (Sandra) to show me where in contract such fees is specified as I mentioned previously in review, she never send email response to it. When you sign contract, sales person is very smart and doesn't disclose all these fees as well as 5 year contract that you are signing on. Once you signed, you have no conntrol but pays whatever fees that SBC asked you to pay. I strongly recommend to review contract and ask to be specific for any fees and what is increment in service fee and how often SBC can increase this. Ideally, you should ask to add in contract that whenever SBC increase service fee or any other fees, you reserve write to review it and option to terminate contract. I am better off switching company and I was able to specify every single fee in contract. I better off terminate contract with SBC and pay early termination fee as SBC can charge you anything as contract is vauge and do not specifiy any fees in contract. Like I said, I am going to save 60% monthly by switching to different company and I don't have to worry about ridiculus increment from SBC without any notice. This company is SCAM and bind you with 5 years contracts with lots of fees are hidden. They randomly increase fee without any notice. Some increase in fees not even part of contract and after sending sevaral emails, Sandra, who is handling legal contract, didin't return email explaining monthly charge name business compliance. Their monthly fees including all charges cost us $625 and with same level of service including all fees, other waste company charges $238/month. This company offers price locked in for 1st year, 5% increase for second & thrid year. With my other collegue restaurant, SBC charges $525/month and for exact same service, other company charges $145/month. If anyone would like to get more details, please contact me. I will give negative star if it is available to rate. It is not available so I will give 1 star!

I’ve lived in the village of Winfield for 43 years and I can honesty say SBC is the BEST waste service I’ve ever had, my streets are clean of trash and my garbage cans aren’t in the middle of the road!! Sbc collectors are always professional and courteous!! I would like to give a special shout out to DAVID MAYEN my yard waste collector! David has a fantastic work ethic, he’s always happy smiling and positive. I look forward to seeing David every Wednesday morning as he drives by my house tooting his horn of his truck waving with a big smile on his face!! He has a tough job in our village especially during the fall leaf pick up!! Thank you DAVID FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!!

We switched from Waste Management to SBC because the cost with WM kept increasing. After researching other trash/recyling companies, we decided on SBC becuase it was women-owned, local and recommended by our neighbor. We also liked that billing is quarterly as opposed to monthly. Our bins were dropped off yesterday (a week later than scheduled, thus the 4 stars) so I can't speak to the service just yet. Based on my neighbors review, I'm sure the service will be great!

Like others have commented here…. SBC Waste is a terrible company. Their customer service is terrible. They continue to damage my property by using the robotic arm to grab the trash bins. Their operators have hit my garage door, aluminum capping around the garage door and my downspouts numerous times and have caused significant damage. When I contacted them about the damage I found out that they only have 2 weeks worth of recording retention on their truck cameras so because I didn’t notify them within 2 weeks of the damage occurring, I basically told “too bad” and they denied my claim. I opened a complaint against them with the BBB and submitted new time stamped video footage from my personal surveillance cameras which clearly shows them banging the trash bins against my downspout and they claim that their cameras don’t see damage being caused by the trash bins being set back so they denied my claim again. I was basically told that because there is existing damage that they can’t accept liability. So they want me to repair all the damage they caused and wait for them to damage it again and promptly notify them of the damage. Yeah… sure. Let me spend my money to make the repairs and just watch them destroy everything again and then probably deny my claim again. SBC, for being a woman owned business you sure do pull the same shady business tactics as non woman owned businesses. Glad you really set yourself apart from the herd. What a shame.

Darryl is the best. He always has a friendly smile and wave ready when he drives by. Recently my wife was working in the front yard cutting down the summer plantings and preparing the yard for winter. Darryl had already picked up the multiple yard waste bags that we had left at the curb and was making his return trip down the street. Darryl noticed that my wife had filled another yard waste bag. He stopped the truck, hopped out, and asked my wife if he could take the full bag for her. My wife said yes and thanked Darryl. Darryl tossed the bag in the truck's hopper, and he was on his way. Darryl's kind and thoughtful gesture really made my wife's day. Darryl is the best.

Absolutely recommend! We use them for our business locations, and I'm blown away by the service and people. Eric is my go-to for sales and getting-it-done. Glen does our garbage pick-up and is THE BEST!!!! Glen kind of makes me want to be a garbage person. They go above and beyond. Even the other corp garbage companies have great things to say about them.

Regrettably, after four months with this company, I am reducing my review to 2 stars from 5. I feel misled and cannot get a meaningful response concerning my frustrations with their billing practices. My original review has been retained below. I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the refuse is being collected regularly, and, with only one exception, has been done promptly and as agreed. In addition, the driver who regularly services this route is a true professional. He is exceptionally gracious, and it is a pleasure to be working with him. My billing issues stated the first day. The "environmental fee" (which is nothing more than a loosely-defined and highly discretionary industry surcharge - Google it) on my bills is excessively high, and the sales person refused to disclose the amounts to me when I inquired prior to signing an agreement. I did ask at that time, and was only told, "I'm not sure, don't worry, it won't be much." Well, a 65% surcharge on every activity certainly is "much" in the eyes of most. In addition, the company charges a ridiculous "City Permit Admin Fee" each month, pawning off more surcharges in a way that suggests they originate from the City of Chicago. As far as I can gather from the City's fee schedule, these fees are not the direct result of any City program. In reality, Chicago's permit fees are only payable three times per year (and yes, they show up on my bill separately). It should be illegal to disguise a company surcharge as some kind of government tax. Internally, I highly doubt it takes the refuse company more than a few minutes per year to remit. Can you imagine my dismay when the actual monthly billing, after all these surcharges, was nearly double the quoted base service? Adding insult to injury, my first bill was overcharged on my credit card. I have tried to contact this company multiple times via e-mail and phone, to no avail. Yes, they are performing a service, but I feel abused. Just go with one of the more respectable, national companies, I'm sorry to say. ~~~ SBC suggested that I share my experience here, and I am more than happy to do so. There was no premeditation, nor were there any incentives offered for this honest, third-party review. My review pertains only to setting up the service; I will revise it later if there are any changes after pickups commence. Thus far, I have been genuinely impressed and delighted to be working with SBC Waste Solutions. As a licensed architect and engineer, I've had plenty of experience (mostly bad) with waste haulers, mobile facilities, and waste collection in the past. Eric at SBC has been exceptionally prompt, considerate, courteous, communicative, patient, and kind.... just about everything you may have come not to expect from participants in this industry. The situation at my property is unique, and SBC had no issues whatsoever helping me solve my problems. Certain other companies wouldn't even provide a quote. In fact, the experience with SBC has been remarkably painless and straightforward. The contract, like any business agreement, needs to be read carefully by the customer, to ensure there is a full understanding of the terms and conditions; please do read it. That said, when I had questions, Eric was patient and agreeable, and I never felt pressured to sign anything. I also want to mention that I am pleased to be working with a locally owned business. Waste Management abandoned Chicago years ago; they lost my respect and all of my business in the process. When you have an option like SBC, who are competitively priced, friendly, attentive, and rooted in the community, the choice is obvious. In addition to refuse, SBC offers recycling (which should be mandatory for commercial properties in Chicago!), as well as separate collection of compost-ready materials. The latter option is a great choice for residents and businesses who wish to make an environmentally impactful change to their waste stream, but who lack the time, space, or functional depository for onsite composting.

Would like to give them negative 100 stars. We were moving and knew we would have a lot of garbage so asked for an extra pick up and the lady I talked to on the phone was so dumb, I do not think she had graduated third grade. She did not know how to get that scheduled and said someone will call us back, nobody ever did and then we got a blight ticket for all the garbage out there. SBC Waste Solutions need to reimburse me for the ticket we received due to their employee's incompetence!!

Reached out to them, looking for a dumpster and to be serviced every week and they went Above and beyond reached out to them yesterday (Thursday) and they were able to make it happen Right away the following day. This company is truly awful! I can not recall ever feeling the need to leave a 1star review before. The customer service is terrible, billing issues, I called today to understand what cancelling would look like and customer service was unable to tell me and said someone would be in touch within 24h well I received and email from someone with the title legal and sales administration. Knowing that they consider legal and sales admin the same person says it all. It was a proactive and fairly agressive email that didn’t even let me know how I could cancel. I’m being given the run around via email and still they won’t tell me how I can cancel after multiple emails. Having come here and read the reviews it looks like spending more time bullying you in to staying other than addressing the fundamental issues with the organization is the norm along side some shady contracts. I hope this gets resolved and I can report back with better news but I’m not holding me breath. DO NOT USE this company!!

I recently moved and have been so happy with the service from SBC. In my previous house, I never knew where my cans would end up. I would often have to look up and down my alley for them. SBC always returns the cans to the correct place. It's so nice! I also love that they pick up a bulky item per week. It's really convenient.

Small businesses - avoid SBC!!! After nearly two years with SBC, I'm ready to move to another waste management company. They're fine when everything is going smoothly, if a bit pricey. But their billing department seems to have issues, and their customer service is ... weird. They stopped sending me payment confirmations over a year ago, but they had my card on file, so I didn't worry. Somehow, they stopped charging my card on file in March but didn't notify me. The first contact I got was a collections letter in June that was dated weeks earlier. Looks like someone thought about contacting me but forgot to send it? The letter was addressed to ???, and it asked me to pay on their website which requires an access code. The accounts receivable department didn't return any of my emails and I didn't have a code, so paying online wasn't an option. When I finally managed to get someone on the phone, they couldn't figure out why they stopped charging my card. There's no notes on the file, and none of my other vendors have had issues with that card. Trying to get this issue resolved has been a nightmare. They didn't respond to any of my emails, but Eric started calling minutes after I posted a review, and he was really pushy in his texts. Eric said that a payment didn't go through, but couldn't give me the date or any date they attempted to retry the card. (They don't seem to have ACH payments, and no other vendors have had issues.) He claims they emailed me, but when I asked for the dates, he immediately said they must have gone to spam and didn't provide any dates. He also claims they sent physical letters, but couldn't tell me when this supposedly happened. When I asked why my emails hadn't been answered, he said I must have sent them to an unmonitored email address, even though it was the billing address on their invoices. Now they're claiming I signed a 5 year contract, even though my store lease is only 3 years and they provided nothing in writing. So this is probably going to end with lawyers. I ignored other reviews because I like doing business with local companies, and now I regret it. I see now why Eric was so pushy asking for an immediate 5* review when I started up. Avoid this company!

This was my first time using SBC Waste Management, and I was pleasantly surprised! I used other services in the past and they always left a paper trail of trash. My pile was spotless when they left. The pickup was right on time, and the drivers were super respectful and professional. You can tell they really know what they’re doing ... everything was handled smoothly without any issues. It’s refreshing to see that kind of reliability on the first try. Definitely sticking with them moving forward.

SBC delivered in a quick and easy manner. Eric was very patient and understanding with our needs during our diy demolition at our home. I called a few places and they were too pricey this company was within our budget. They handled the permit, which was easier for me not have to go to the city and they we're able to get it done the same day! Thanks for your great service. I will definitely use your service again in the near future.

Holy cow, what a garbage company. But really, I manage 45 buildings, and most of them need commercial trash collection (anything over 3 apartments requires this). I've worked with all the big companies, but this is the only one where I have an actual guy I can call when I have a questions. And the drivers are insanely good at twisting through the tight alleys BACKWARDS and popping in to collect our trash. They are so quick at emptying the bins behind my office building that I race out there to give them a bottle of water on hot days and I only catch them half the time. They're really nice too - if you can catch one. They are actually less expensive for better service than the other trash collectors we've used. Do yourself a favor, and ask for Eric - funny, charming, and he will help you find out how to cancel your old service, and take care of the notifications himself. Completely, wholeheartedly, recommend. Oh, and I had a client call their bins "Sexy", so there's that!
