100% customer friendly from the initial call into them to the minute they unloaded my truck. A very impressive operation. Mike took my original call & walked me through what I could & could not recycle, what they give you cash for, etc & sent me to Arlington Heights location. Once there, like 5 guys descended onto my truck & within minutes it was empty. I walked into the garage & boom, hands me a slip of paper & I was done. Bing bang boom!
This place has the best prices in town. Guillermo & Jose do an excellent job running the place along with their crew. Call Mike in sales if you want good pricing.
I brought in 36 lbs of aluminum cans as well as a lot of other scrqp metal items. This place is great. As a long time scrapper, I had been going to another scrap yard (in Melrose Park) whose alum can per pound payout was a lousy 15 cents per pound. Elgin Recycling gave me 35 cents per pound!

This place is great! I bring my aluminum cans there about 2X a year. Today I pull in and three guys immediately appear and take my three bags. Super efficient and super nice employees. So glad I found Elgin Recycling since my previous facility is no longer operational.
Brought a bunch of motors full of copper. They gave me two dollars for it. Alsip scrap yard and the one by Clifton and clybourn would of at least gave me a 80 spot for all of that. Scammers
Staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable about what they accepted, and they processed everything quickly. The website was useful for looking up what they take in advance and had a lot of helpful information on their locations and how to get recycling processed once you get there.
Note on getting there: location was tucked away back behind some other businesses, so was a little hard to find if you miss the right street to turn on (but easy to find once you are in the right area - their local signage is very helpful).
Very well run recycling collection site. They have fairly small parking lot and the yard area. Every step from parking my vehicle to getting the items weighed and categorized only took minutes and I was back on the road with a few dollars in my hand and with that feeling that I have done something good for the Earth by taking a few extra steps to recycle more.
I'm a licensed electrician and I took a box of wire that I salvaged from machinery it was all regular Thhn wire or house wire what they call it ..
58lbs of it considered large phone wire which was totally wrong and got paid for phone wire they need to learn the difference in wire
I felt cheated but they make the rules and cheat people out of good money
So be ware of what you take there

Place was easy to deal with. Employees were nice and helpful. Felt like I could have gotten more for my scrap elsewhere but this was a painless experience. I will probably come back next time I have enough metal to justify the trip.
I like the guys that work there, they are cordial, fast and make the transaction as smooth as possible. They offer fair prices as well, but I'd suggest to call first and speak directly to a sales person so they can give you a better quote and put you on file. Doing this you will get a much better price than if you were to walk-in off the street.
They do have an outside scale that you can drive onto and they'll figure out the weigh depending on what you bring in. Otherwise, you can walk into the garage and they will load n weigh your individual items or piles of scrap.
Elgin Recycling also pays you cash on the spot.. anything over $100 requires an I.D. They're open 7a-5p M thru F and 7a-1p on Saturday, closed on Sunday.
I have used their location since they appeared there. Not because they pay well, they not, but because I could sort the material on the side and get rid of cartoonboards. Till this day, they not allowed me to clean my van there and I couldn't use their container. Rudeness, tightness and lack of respect for the client especially by one of the employees (from what I know the one who works there the shortest time). Absolutely not recommend
Website said they would take AC units then I get there and they won't take them with refidgerant in them - thats the whole reason I didn't just throw it in the trash... Put that on your website!!
Went over there yard was filled with nails everywhere, they told me to drive in, i would not. They finaly got there little magnet roller out which did not do anything
Bad scrap metal prices, nails all over the scrap yard workers seem to not care about anything most of all you're tires. Would not recommend this scrap yard to anyone
Used to be good 2 years ago when they'd help unload metal, went there this morning and they didn't even look to see what i had let alone help with it. Left a sour taste in my mouth.
"Just throw it in the pile".
Worst service ever, rude and lazy, manager told he would not even touch copper wires I brought for more than 4 cent a pound, I sold it for 50 at nearby recycling place.
