The service was prompt, professional, and transparent. I appreciated the complimentary Uber ride to my destination. However, despite my after-market automatic start being assembled incorrectly, I expected it to be fixed so that it would still function. Unfortunately, it no longer works.
These guys are great! The service manager Dan is honest and explains things well. They work hard to get the job done and timely. I've had two major repairs and have referred family and they always do a good job! You never know with service shops and you hear horror stories. They have never let me down! I would not only recommend them but they will be my service shop for as long as need them.
They were super transparent on pricing when I called for a quote and, they took the time to ask what my car was foing and did a free check to see if I had actually needed everything quoted by previous company, they got me in as fast as they could, we're super polite, amd got the work done super fast. Definitely double check your quotes from other companies with these folks, they saved my butt and I look forward to having my other minor services handled here. Legit cut my original other company quote from $767.89 to $459 tax and everything out the door.
Once again Dan and his guys solved our problem and my son's car is back on the road. Always friendly and knowledgeable about engine issues. They've got our business next time as well. Thank you guys!
Went in for a diagnostic to find out why I had a misfire in one of my cylinders. Told me the cylinder was dead but didn't give a reason why. Seems as though removing the valve cover was too much work for them. Will not be going back.
My car died on the interstate and was towed to their shop to see if it was something that could be fixed. They were quick to diagnose the issue (broken timing belt) and inform me of all my options. They were reasonably priced for the maintenance and diagnosis they gave me. I’d absolutely go back.
I have a Genesis g90 and it had to be towed and I couldn't figure out how to fix what apparently went wrong during the towing. When I took it out to Dowdy's they test drove it two or three times and actually found two or three different problems that occurred with the towing service. I was very happy with their diagnosis and putting the car back perfectly. I highly recommend them.
Dowdys came in under what most of the other shops were asking. They also used reliable OEM equipment. They were honest about the hourly job and rates because I checked myself. Thanks for a great first impression. Will be using them again.
I will start by saying that the techs were great and this review is not meant to be negative towards the team.
However, I was quoted $5,700+ for a head gasket job on my Silverado. $3,825 for labor, $1,210 for parts, $700 for machine shop. I know there is a markup on parts but $285 for a set of spark plugs is insane (a set of premium plugs at Napa retails for $70-90). The gaskets themselves were quoted at $480 ($55 each at Texas Speed). And as for the labor, I don’t know how many hours the shop quoted this job for but many sources online are saying 12 hours is typical, I’ll work off 15 hours (because that’s what it took me to do it myself) and that comes to $255 per hour.
This is price gouging, I would have been fine with a modest markup on parts and a shop rate of $145 with a reasonable time estimate. You do not need to charge your client more than a PS5 for a couple gaskets.
Edit: I want to clarify in my review that when I mentioned “a couple gaskets” costing as much as a PS5, I’m referring to Dowdy’s quote breakdown specifically stating that the head gaskets alone would cost me $480. Not the entire parts list. And that other parts for water pump, fluids, head bolts, spark plugs, were also in the quote and in my opinion were also massively marked up.
Skills, fair prices and integrity. These are key attributes I seek when I trust my vehicle to a mechanic. Dan at Dowdy's exhibits all of this and more. I have found my mechanic for my next 100K. Thank you.
These guys are top notch. They have now done two of my vehicles and they did not disappoint. There was a small issue with my pickup this time, a misunderstanding having the rear differential oil changed. I didn’t need it done because it had been done less than a year ago. When I brought it to their attention, there was no hesitation they zeroed that portion out with no questions asked. This is why I go back, very professional and honest. I will be taking a third vehicle to them as well. Thank you guys so much for your great work, honesty and the professionalism in your shop!!
The guys at Dowdys are truly amazing, I’ve recommended this Dowdys location to multiple friends and family. In fact I travel past at least 2 other Dowdys locations on the way to make it to my preferred location.
The reason why I would drive from close to Lucky Peak out to Meridian to have an oil change is simple. The guys at the front desk are knowledgeable, kind, caring, and always greet you with a smile… they even shocked me by remembering my name after only one visit.
The guys working in the cars are always clean, professional, have great attitudes and far more importantly than that they are incredibly knowledgeable and have some amazing skills they can showcase while working on cars.
These guys are my mechanics for life now, I just wish I would have listened to my friend that recommended them sooner, instead I waited and found a mechanic far closer to me and had to deal with nothing but shenanigans, excuses, and then just plain nonsense…
but since he’s the reason I went to Dowdys and can finally say I have found a mechanic that’s trustworthy, affordable, and happy to see me (not just happy to see my money)

Not impressed at all. Had the car towed here after speaking with them and was told they could do the job. 5 working days pass and no communication. I called to check the status of the car and was told they couldn't work on it. Reason " the car is too highly modified". So in total 5 days wasted and $265 in tow costs. If your staff isn't competent enough to take a couple bolts out to do the job that's all that had to be said.
The people were pleasant to talk with. The price was reasonable. The mechanics seem to know exactly how to fix the problem. I give them five stars out of five. Highly recommended.
If you want an honest mechanic who won’t give you the run around, this is it! They explained what was going on with our car and gave us options. Ivan was especially patient with us and very knowledgeable and professional. This is the only place I will bring my vehicles to. Thank you!!!
Dan was very helpful with diagnosing a sound on my truck. One wheel bearing they were able to replace and recommended a shop to do the rear. Honest and efficient
Although you may need to make an appointment, these folks are very good and knowledgeable. They’ll perform the necessary services/repairs in the time promised for a reasonable price. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them.

Dan did a Very PROFESSIONAL job of trouble shooting. They found that another ‘different’ shop had charged me for repairs and parts, which they forgot to actually install and complete. This human error caused four (4) days of shop time trying to figure out what could possibly be wrong!?! Finally, Dan @ Dowdy went back to the first repair done at the other ‘different’ shop and found the problem as stated above. After installing the $12 missing part, the A/C runs COLD! This is phenomenal for a 24 year old truck!! If you want thorough methodical professional service, Go To Dowdy’s!@!
Dan @ Dowdy's utilized a professional and methodical process to diagnose my A/C problems before embarking on replacement and repair of parts. I appreciate that approach as a different prior shop used the shotgun replace parts in a, "let's see if this works".
Unfortunately I will have to bring it my vehicle back for another analysis because the A/C blows cool to tepid air versus getting blowing cold air.
Will update this review after we re-schedule the vehicle for Dowdy to give it another try.
Easy to set up a repair appointment and Dowdy’s actually works on the vehicle when they say they are going to! Fast diagnostics and reasonable quotes for necessary maintenance. Great all around service and friendly people.

I have used Dowdy's to diagnose an issues before and my prior experience was good and I know they are very busy right now, so I am giving 4 stars and some grace but also want people to be aware to get all information up front on potential additional costs associated with a diagnostic being done.
I brought my Jeep in to have the transmission checked out on a Monday morning. I was told it should be done by late morning, early afternoon. I showed up at 5 pm after no information had been sent still. It was still on a lift and not put together. They explained their findings and apologized for it not being put back together yet. Told me they would clean the trans pan, put new fluid in and put it back and I could pick it up the next day. The next morning I had a text with my total for the diagnostic at $83 + tax. I approved and signed for that. I went to pick up my vehicle a couple of hours later. When I got there it was still up on the lift and hadn't been put back together yet. I told them I would at least pay for the diagnostic since I was there. He told me to hold off and just pay when it was ready to pick up that afternoon. Getting close to 5 pm again I finally got notice that it was ready to pick up and my total was now $344. While I understand taking out the pan, cleaning it and the filter and putting new fluid in, is billable work. It was never explained to me that the work that had to be done to diagnose the issue would go over the $83 and was not mentioned when I came in and offered to pay that, that there would be additional charges that hadn't been calculated yet. On top of that, with my vehicle not being ready when stated on the first day, I had to rent a car for a couple days.
I will say, the gentleman when I picked up the vehicle and brought up the out of the blue cost, apologized for the miscommunication and waived it. I appreciate them making that right. But that was a bumpy experience.

I have taken my vehicles to the South Meridian location for years, where Dan and Robert have diligently worked to make sure each experience has been positive. Dowdy's mechanics work to earn your trust, by taking pictures of whatever they find wrong and texting them to you. This way you can see for yourself what they find. They always rate the urgency of the repairs so you know what to prioritize. You can choose to stay in their clean, kid friendly lobby, or they will send you home in an Uber if needed to wait instead. One conversation with either let's you know that they are trustworthy, kind, honest, and good at what they do. Plus they have amazing patience with my own son's 500 questions that he loves to ask while we occasionally wait. I'm so grateful they were once recommended to me, and I'm thrilled to be able to recommend them wholeheartedly to others.
