Dan was very helpful with diagnosing a sound on my truck. One wheel bearing they were able to replace and recommended a shop to do the rear. Honest and efficient
Although you may need to make an appointment, these folks are very good and knowledgeable. They’ll perform the necessary services/repairs in the time promised for a reasonable price. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them.
The work on my car was done in one day the price was reasonable I got a free ride home everybody was pleasant to talk to. I would recommend them to anyone.

Dan did a Very PROFESSIONAL job of trouble shooting. They found that another ‘different’ shop had charged me for repairs and parts, which they forgot to actually install and complete. This human error caused four (4) days of shop time trying to figure out what could possibly be wrong!?! Finally, Dan @ Dowdy went back to the first repair done at the other ‘different’ shop and found the problem as stated above.
After installing the $12 missing part, the A/C runs COLD!
This is phenomenal for a 24 year old truck!!

There was a bit of confusion on the time of my appointment, but everything was handled with great clarity and courtesy. I would definitely recommend Dowdy’s to others looking for car service and repair.
Dan @ Dowdy's utilized a professional and methodical process to diagnose my A/C problems before embarking on replacement and repair of parts. I appreciate that approach as a different prior shop used the shotgun replace parts in a, "let's see if this works".
Unfortunately I will have to bring it my vehicle back for another analysis because the A/C blows cool to tepid air versus getting blowing cold air.
Will update this review after we re-schedule the vehicle for Dowdy to give it another try.

We had a break issue with our 2004 GMC Sierra. We were traveling back to California. Dan Rowe at Dowdy's Automotive of Meridian helped us out tremendously. Great experience! I have relatives who live in Meridian, who have had trouble finding good reputable automotive repair. I would highly recommend Dowdy's... thanks Dan, you guys were great.
I have used Dowdy's to diagnose an issues before and my prior experience was good and I know they are very busy right now, so I am giving 4 stars and some grace but also want people to be aware to get all information up front on potential additional costs associated with a diagnostic being done.
I brought my Jeep in to have the transmission checked out on a Monday morning. I was told it should be done by late morning, early afternoon. I showed up at 5 pm after no information had been sent still. It was still on a lift and not put together. They explained their findings and apologized for it not being put back together yet. Told me they would clean the trans pan, put new fluid in and put it back and I could pick it up the next day. The next morning I had a text with my total for the diagnostic at $83 + tax. I approved and signed for that. I went to pick up my vehicle a couple of hours later. When I got there it was still up on the lift and hadn't been put back together yet. I told them I would at least pay for the diagnostic since I was there. He told me to hold off and just pay when it was ready to pick up that afternoon. Getting close to 5 pm again I finally got notice that it was ready to pick up and my total was now $344. While I understand taking out the pan, cleaning it and the filter and putting new fluid in, is billable work. It was never explained to me that the work that had to be done to diagnose the issue would go over the $83 and was not mentioned when I came in and offered to pay that, that there would be additional charges that hadn't been calculated yet. On top of that, with my vehicle not being ready when stated on the first day, I had to rent a car for a couple days.
I will say, the gentleman when I picked up the vehicle and brought up the out of the blue cost, apologized for the miscommunication and waived it. I appreciate them making that right. But that was a bumpy experience.
Dowdy's is wonderful! They listen to me and they work hard to get my car fixed and back to me in a timely manner (which I really appreciate!). I definitely recommend Dowdy's. 10/10
I always go to Dowdy's for car repairs. As a woman who doesnt know alot about cars, I feel like they are fair and they dont try to sell me un-necessary repairs or try to upsell me. I feel I can trust them to do what's right and to do a great job on my cars.
I haven’t been in ID very long and always worry about finding a new shop… I have taken my Jeep in Twice for service and they have been awesome both times! They are my new Jeep guys!!
Turned out to be a simple relay replacement. Wish they would have just told me it was a super simple fix and not charged me the full labor amount. Sure, I agree with the diagnosis fee, as they need paid for that time, but to charge the full labor fee they did for a 15 sec relay replacement was a bit much.
Dowdy’s is awesome! They always do a very thorough assessment to figure out what’s wrong, and then the repair is quick and easy. I’ve primarily talked with Dan and he is great! Very straightforward service. We appreciate Dowdy’s and call here for all of our repair needs!
When looking for a trustworthy mechanic shop, Dowdy's Automotive immediately comes to mind. I have taken my vehicles to the South Meridian location for years, where Dan and Robert have diligently worked to make sure each experience has been positive. Dowdy's mechanics work to earn your trust, by taking pictures of whatever they find wrong and texting them to you. This way you can see for yourself what they find. They always rate the urgency of the repairs so you know what to prioritize. You can choose to stay in their clean, kid friendly lobby, or they will send you home in an Uber if needed to wait instead. One conversation with either let's you know that they are trustworthy, kind, honest, and good at what they do. Plus they have amazing patience with my own son's 500 questions that he loves to ask while we occasionally wait. I'm so grateful they were once recommended to me, and I'm thrilled to be able to recommend them wholeheartedly to others.
I am 77 year old female and only have one vehicle--a 22 year old Ford Explorer. Dowdy's always goes the extra mile to keep it running. I trust them and I appreciate their service. They always make me feel like I'm their top priority.
Took my car in a year ago because I wanted a second opinion on my transmission as I was told by a shop near my house it may have a leak. The costs at that facility were pretty high for the inspection . But then I found dowdys and the pricing was much for affordable for a pressure wash of the transmission and then they put dye through to pinpoint the leak. Well they did all that and told me everything was good , well now I face my transmissions complete failure and the mechanic shop I returned to closer to my house said I’ve been driving on a leak for a long time and that’s what leads to these failures not to mention they said when they took a look at the transmission there was more dye in it then they’ve ever seen used. which would be attributed to the dye inspection from dowdys. Feeling pretty upset that the leak was never caught when I took it here ; and now I’m facing a cost of $8900 for a full transmission repair on a vehicle where this shouldn’t be happening so soon. Won’t be returning since things got pretty overlooked .
Five Stars! Dan and Robert at the South Meridian location were helping me today. The are both super knowledgable and very friendly! They got my vehicle in right away. The work was done very well and I am a very happy customer. This was my first visit to Dowdy's and I will certainly be going there from my auto needs.
They do good work, but last time I went I scheduled an appointment a week out, with multiple days before I scheduled they said they were available. So I scheduled for my day off plenty in advance, my car didn’t get looked at all day, because they over scheduled. Then when I called and asked about it I was met with attitude. As I said they do good work and this might of been a one time fluke but still.
I have used Dowdy Automotive many times simply because their staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Robert answers your calls, gives timely and fair estimates and does his absolute best to get you scheduled in for service right away. The repair work is always top notch and I would highly recommend Dowdy’s to anyone. They do fantastic work!!
