Great place to stop and learn more about the history of the area. The visitor center was nice and informational $6 to enter and has clean restrooms available. Gift shop was closed for the season when we went. Plan to spend anywhere from 1 to 3 hours here walking the grounds and the visitor center.

Not only did we enter the fort we got to board the coast guard ship was fun! The views in some areas were great as well. Definitely coming here again. ?
Hard to find the entrance but really cool spot, would recommend walking through. there's restrooms by the pier and picnic tables around the fort itself, great for looking at the bay
Nice park full of Connecticut history! Plenty of parking with paved walkways and ramps for wheelchair/walker access. There are picnic tables on the grass with water views and benches off the walkways. The park often has special events, like the docking of the USS Normandy prior to being decommissioned. There are restrooms in the Visitor Center and also at the bottom of the hill below the Fort close to the docks. There's a helpful video on their website that gives you a glimpse of what to look forward to at the park!

It was a capsule of American history it's long history from the war of Independence all the way to the cold war and naval history
Nice and cozy spot to chill and relax and fishing as well. I feel they need to to clean the seats off after people fish cause they be dirty from fish and guts.
This is a massive fort rebuilt three times. The museum is very informative and interesting. It has an elevator so access if you are handicapped. You need your walking shoes to tour the fort and its surroundings. Watch your step on the circular stairwell going up and down. If you are too old or disabled don’t do it.
The history this place holds is amazing. The Fort itself is a great build and the views of the river are beautiful. Great place for a nice family picnic or fishing off the pier. Best part is it is a Connecticut State Park and free to the residents.
Very historic site and of great importance to the US defense.
We knew it was closed when we got there, but it is still an awesome site with great views.

It was a beautiful day for a walk with Obi and Mom. Shaded parking to keep the car cool and doggy clean up stations with bags. We had perfect access to watch The Eagle come in down the Thames River. I wished we brought lunch!
Went to see the historic Fort Trumbull while in town. It is always awesome to see the history still standing in such good condition. Even got to see a cool Coast Guard ship
I take my 9yo grandson there to fish. Great place! Nice people. You can take your dog. It has picnic areas. The pier for fishing. If you have never been, you need to check it out.
This is a wonderful state park.
The grounds are lovely and the Water views are Relaxing. This is a wonderful place to spend time.
You can come here for a lovely picnic i’ll go for an evening walk or go out to the pier is for fishing.
There’s also a historical dimension. You can tour the fort and see the old cannons.
There’s plenty of parking and the experience is very pleasant.
Highly recommend it.
Educational, friendly staff, well maintained, and great views. Great place to stop for an hour or so to learn about the history of the fort and surrounding area. Would definitely recommend if you have the time. Fishing is allowed on the pier in front of the fort.
We went here as part of the Sky's the Limit 2022 hiking challenge. It was a short walk around, not really a hike. It was neat to look around and educational. We weren't able to go inside the fort because it's only open between memorial day and labor day, but we plan on going back next year to check it out. The pier overlooking the river was amazing. We sat and had a picnic lunch and watched the water.
The Fort was closed today, so don't plan on going in on a Monday or Tuesday. We still had a great time walking the outside and reading the plaques. Right on the river and we had a great breeze to keep things cool.
If you are looking for a place to spend the afternoon have a picnic and you have children with an interest in military history come to Fort Trumbull. The museum located in a renovated historic building next to the fort contains artifacts, displays and video displays. The movies provide an excellent background on the history of the site and its role as a fort and research center. If you take the time it is possible to spend two hours in the museum. After completing the tour of the museum on three floors you can tour the grounds. The views are fantastic. There is a fishing pier and a dock for picking up the water taxi. Unfortunately the actual fort is closed to the public. Designed in the Egyptian style popular in the first half of the 19th century, look for the architectural motifs reminiscent of temples located along the Nile in ancient Egypt. Free parking and clean restrooms makes this visit stressless. Check times for when the museum is open.
This is a great old historic home site, along the Connecticut coast. We were unable to tour inside, because it wasn’t open, but we toured the grounds, and gardens. The buildings look to be somewhat neglected, but once again we could not see the inside due to it not being open. We were here on a bright sunny Thursday morning, and enjoyed visiting the gardens. The grounds and the park were very well-maintained.
What a wonderful place full of history and just a beautiful place to walk around. The paths are all paved and gentle grades for either strollers or the handicap. The fort itself along with the visitor center was closed. From what I can tell they are only open from memorial day to labor day. Parking was free and walking around outside the fort was open. You can walk down to the public fishing pier and drop a line. All the regs are posted so that was nice. All in all you can spend the day there or an hour or two.
Great views while walking, biking, fishing or for a picnic. Fort exhibits are closed but you can peek in the windows; spiral stairs take you to top of fort for more great views. Guest center has a free museum. It worth the visit.
This was a very interesting fort and museum. The interior of the fort had many signs and exhibits detailing its long history. This continued in the museum which was very comprehensive. It touched on all the various American conflicts that occurred over the Fort's long history.
Beautiful grounds! Tours and museum open during certain hours, park is open until sunset. Great place to relax, walk around, picnic, and explore. There is a fishing putter you can fish off of. A lot of geese poop but that’s to be expected by the water. Only a few picnic tables and benches.
My favorite place in town. Such a peaceful place where you can enjoy the Thames. Don't forget to visit the museum, full of so much local history. Just a reminder, they don't currently take cards. Entry is $6 last I visited. View the website for more info.
