Tom was great! Helped me out in an emergency. Needed my car repaired in a pinch and he did it in a day. Got me back on the road in time to make a 14 hour drive back to MN on schedule. Yes, he is gruff but also a straight shooter. He gets the job done. Excellent service!

Do not use this shop! Much better off going somewhere else even if he tells you “he’s the only one who can fix it” Car part was supposed to be in Monday, didn’t get in, then was told wednesday and it still didn’t get in and car was not fixed almost after a WEEK of being in the shop. We are from out of town and had to pay for 3 extra nights just in hopes he would get our car done. He is very rude and no respect at all for tourists, he is on his own old man time and couldn’t care less about anyone else. GO TO ANOTHER SHOP

So our brakes started making a pretty concerning noise and we don't live anywhere near here. They got us in right away and even loaned us a truck for the day! The job was perfect and these guys are super honest - they let us know we only needed back breaks... Highly recommenced - well done guys!!

This is the absolute BEST place to bring your vehicle. Tom is such a genuinely good man who knows his stuff! I moved here from North Carolina and don't trust my jeep with anyone else!

A great mechanic keeping our vehicle on the road! Tom is an honest guy letting you know what needs to be fixed at fair pricing.

Similar to another review on here, called for a simple break line repair. Guy was very rude, wouldn’t tell me if he could get the part, do the repair, or when he could get the car in. Tried to ask him these 3 straight forward questions, and the guy rudely said “I’m not gonna be able to help you buddy”. No one should ever go there.

Local Review - $2500 for a radiator and radiator thermostat. The parts for this job cost in the ballpark of $1000. Mechanic labor is rarely more than $200/hr. This job should take a professional mechanic no more than 4 hours to complete. Likely 2-3 hours with lifts and proper tools, yet I was billed $2500. Go somewhere else or DIY. This is a job that should have cost at most $1500 - $1800. He overcharges, because he can.

$1,500 for a fuel pump replacement with no estimate before the work was complete. Believe the critical reviews, the owner is a jerk and they overcharge— especially when they know that you have limited options in Granby for service.

We don’t live in Granby but we broke down on our way to vacation. Tom was available and quickly diagnosed the issue. Excellent service and very knowledgeable- highly recommend!

Beware of this place if you are woman or have out of state plates. Daughter stopped here because brakes were making noise. Quoted her $2,400 for brake pads,1 rotor and 1 caliber. When when she told him she would get back to him next day he got very sarcastic to the point of hostile, and generally belittling her. Stated he shouldn't let her leave and then demanded $250 dollars inspection fee. This took less than half an hour, so curious to what his hourly rate is for other work

Called them to see if they can help change a flat tire. A simple “I’m sorry we do not offer that service” would have been an acceptable response. However he was incredibly rude and said “call a tow truck buddy”. If he is this rude for a simple inquiry I can’t imagine how he treats his customers.

Tom saved the day! We were at a campsite nearby when our Jeep Grand Cherokee just DIED as we were pulling out to go to a trailhead. We deducted that we needed a new alternator and battery. In calling around to various shops on a Saturday at 1pm, everyone was closed. When we called ARS, Tom answered! Although they were officially closed , Tom listened to our issue and offered to help us even though it was his time off from work! After getting towed to him, he had our Jeep working and back on the road in 2 hours! Had it not been for our hero, we would've had to cut our camping trip short and be towed back to Thornton, CO! We are extremely appreciative for Tom. I've read other reviews where some mention that Tom was rude. He is definitely a straightforward person. So just go with the flow of him and you will be fine. He's a good guy and a veteran!

I was helping my daughters friend with her car that had broken down and was parked at his shop. After him not being able to find the keys to the car and leaving his hearing aid attached to the vehicle, and not even knowing who's car it was and being extremely rude, saw me and told me I owed him money from 2 years ago for a car I sold 8 years ago? He then turned around and told the girls, who were already upset, to MOVE out of his way very aggressively.. It made for a very scary situation for the teen girls being away from home and this being their first breakdown.

I was traveling through Granby when my Jeep Grand Cherokee died. I had no idea where to have a tow truck take it, but was recommended this place (also called ARS). I was so impressed. Both Tom and Adam were professional, communicative, they figured out the problem right away, and had me back on the road a few hours later. 10/10 would recommend this place if you are in the area and need a repair. Thank you, Tom!

After having complicated car problems on a trip, Tom drove us to our accommodation while he worked on our car, and back when he was finished within the day. Saved my proposal to my then girlfriend. Not only competent but a genuinely good person.

After having to coast down Berthoud Pass into Winter Park and getting a tow to this location after our van's gears no longer functioned, Tom did some troubleshooting and steered us in the right direction, honestly giving us an assessment, and dealing with another tow truck that took our big camping van over the mountain to Golden so that it could be serviced at a dealership as per the warranty, which Tom told us about. His fees were lower than we feared, in line with what he predicted, and now we wait as supply chain issues hinder the arrival of a new transmission. Thank you Tom!! We will bring you cookies next time we are in town.

I was nervous about taking our expedition there after some of the reviews I read. But Tom was very professional and got our brakes fixed that day. He doesn't beat around the bush or sugar coat stuff. He tells you how it is and he understood we were 12 hours from home. And was fair with his pricing. Especially since other mechanics couldn't get to it for a week or longer. Thanks Tom. If you're not a local needing a good mechanic I highly recommend him.

On the final day of a snowboarding trip in Winter Park, my friend and I awoke to a flat right-front tire on our rented 4Runner. As two out-of-staters from urban areas, we did not anticipate how difficult it would be to find an open repair shop two hours outside of Denver on a Sunday. At the suggestion of our tow driver, the 4Runner was towed to Tom's shop (Alternate Sources). We were told that Tom is curt but competent - "He's blunt, but if anyone can fix your truck, it's Tom." Our driver was right. Tom took in the vehicle and told us to "go get a coke" (e.g., "let me work in peace"). 30 minutes later, Tom called us back to the shop. We rounded the corner to the parking lot and saw our rented 4Runner parked outside with the original right-front tire inflated and in place. "It was a bead leak. Probably hit a block of ice - had to put the tire back in place," Tom said. For a total of $170 (incl. an additional charge for weekend service), Tom salvaged our travel plans by saving our mobility. Tom's idea of customer service is based not in empathy for you and your vehicular challenge(s) but in addressing the issue(s) at hand as quickly and conclusively as possible. If you're in the Granby area and your chief priority is to get back on the road, go to Tom's.

Thank you so much, Tom! We visited back in July and had a great experience. We were on a tight schedule, and I needed some diagnostic work (and subsequent repairs) done. I called, Tom didn't ask too many questions, and then requested we come by the following day at a specific time. I did that, told him I needed to be on the way asap - and he came to work early the following morning to repair my car so I could be on my way. I found him helpful, informative, and direct. Additionally, Tom is a proud Veteran of the USMC. If you are in need of repair/diagnostics, etc. I highly recommend paying Tom a visit.

He was very unprofessional and rude! We had a flat tire on a Sunday and his shop was unfortunately the only place open. We took our truck to him and he had it done fairly quick. He ended up charging us $159. I understand that the weekend rates are higher than the weekday rates but not $130 higher that’s ridiculous. Just to patch a tire!

Tom was a life saver. Highly recommend. Every other shop could not look at car for weeks. He was compassionate and had her back on the road within days with parts coming from Denver.

don't waste your time. very rude and unprofessional old man. I called before I showed up, explained I had a small leak and inquired about a tire repair, was told by tom "come by at 1:30" at 1:30 I show up only to be told "I don't want your keys! I don't change tires! I only want the tire!" in a very hostile manner. At this point I already decided to not do business with him and exclaimed how rude he was being. As I left the premises and he started to hit his chest and chase me into the parking lot in a threatening manner.

Tom really knows his stuff, and was so timely about everything. Had a quote in hand the same day. He was honest, polite, and reasonable about the charges. I will definitely be using his services for all of my auto needs in the future. Thanks so much Tom!

An old Marine owns this shop. He is a gruff individual, but knows his stuff when it come to cars. He fixed my tire problem the day after Thanksgiving, when all other ships were closed. He got me back on the road in 1 hour as promised. His prices are high market rate. His shop was very busy when I came in, which tells me the locals really trust him. He will fix your car up right, just don’t expect any sympathy or emotional counseling for your auto problems.

My Dad's brakes went out coming out of Walden, he was able to make it to town but the first garage we tried was going to take 10 days to even look at it! Tom agreed to look at it right away to make sure he didn't need to order parts, and then had it ready by the morning! Great service, great price, very happy experience! Thank you Tom!

Did a great job at fixing our van. It overheated numerous times and he replaced the thermostat and pressure cap. Was hard to deal with. Got upset with my Dad. Settled down. Came back the next day around 2 like I thought he wanted. He jumped on me saying he didn't appreciate me putting a boot up his rear end. I assured him that was not the case. He settled down and finally said he would call me when he was done in about an hour. He called and did a great job. So it was very stressful dealing with him but he did a great job.

Highly recommend Tom! I had a blowout at the top of the Winter Park pass while on vacation and he was the only shop that would agree to get it fixed before the following week. After being towed to his shop he immediately ordered a new tire and told me he would have it ready for me the next day...and he did.

Alternate Sources DBA located right behind the Napa car parts shop in Granby fixed my car right the first time, for both times I needed it fixed. Tom is the only mechanic I've ever met who if you call with an emergency may well be able to FIX YOUR CAR THE SAME DAY! Emergency labor rates may apply for same day service. He's a very experienced and knowledgeable mechanic, one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He even drove out and picked me up in his truck when my car had already been towed to his shop because he had a few extra minutes of time on his hands.

Tom rescued us too! We were in a real squeeze on a late Friday afternoon. Broken down on hwy 40 just before Granby. We had AAA towing the car to Tom's garage minutes before 6pm. Tom fixed the primary problem ther next morning to get us back on the road. He was extremely helpful! Tom, Thank you very much!

Tom rescued us when we locked our keys in the car. He came and assisted us quickly and made sure we were able to get into the vehicle. He was friendly, professional and efficient. I would absolutely use him for any car issues as he was reliable and trustworthy. Use this company!
