I’m very happy I got such a great consultant! I was buying snowboard boots and step-on bindings, and they were extremely helpful explained everything clearly and professionally. I’ve also bought sneakers and other shoes here many times, and returns were always easy if something didn’t fit. I ended up getting a membership as well. Highly recommend!
My wife and I came in to get snowboarding gear and had a great experience from start to finish.
The selection was solid, the store was well organized, and the staff was incredibly friendly.
Heather was especially amazing — she took the time to answer our questions, made thoughtful recommendations, and made us feel really supported instead of rushed.

Feels wrong writing this but they Forgot to size one of the bindings and we had to pay for it to get re-adjusted at the ski resort had to pay an extra 40$. We have gotten skis from here before with them being good. they also got the color of the helmet.

Sports shoes? Check! Camping gear? Check! Hiking and climbing gear? Check, check! Everything under one roof and this place is huuuuuge! Nearly every active sport you can think of- they have what you need for it! Well… except for specialized ones like fencing… Gears, outfits, accessories and professional advice all in this one place! They have good brands and a variety of selections. I found the staff very welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. Bought sports shoes here and you can take your time deliberating… in general, you probably won’t need any help as shoe box sizes are pretty much accessible. Staff are quick to give expert advice if you have any questions. Place is a haven for the sports aficionado. The whole area is very organized and easy to locate what you’re looking for if you have the time to walk around. If you’re in a hurry, might be easier to ask a staff member. I enjoy walking around here, they have good quality items. It’ll be very hard to walk out of here empty handed!
I feel so lucky to have a Sportsbasement close to where I live on the mid-Peninsula. For years, it has been a consistently great place to shop - although online is not nearly as good as in person. Great selection including trusted brands. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. And hard to beat prices - especially with membership discounts. And they support local charities too.
Brian, at the bike department, was extremely helpful, knowledgable and made my entire experience of buying a new pair of clip-on biking shoes, a pleasure. I was a bit nervous of getting cleats setup without introducing riding discomfort. Brian worked with me to get the cleats setup, and further adjust them, based on input after a ride with the original setup. I will definitely be going back with any bike related questions or needs to Brian! He also organizes rides from the store - seems like a great group to join.
Heather helped me out super helpful. I had bought new snowboard boots last season ended up riding them for a season and breaking them in and they got too big. Brought them back a year later and still was able to return them and get a brand new set in a smaller size. Great customer service - coming from someone who never leaves reviews
I had a great experience at Redwood City store buying a set of ski and boots. Heather was very patient and provided lots of info as I selected and tried on different boots. Other staff were also very friendly. Highly recommend!
Sports baseman is the best purveyor of sporting goods I’ve ever used. They are the most understanding with returns that you will ever find. This is important when you’re actually use the sporting goods that you buy because the success of those goods rest solely on how they will how well they work with you. I’ve never even thought about going to another sporting good place since I moved to the bay 10 years ago I hope they expand their footprint across the US. They’re that good. It’s a relaxed atmosphere and knowledgeable people on top of it that really knocked out of the park.
I honestly feel bad for having to write this review. I am a male swimmer, so I mainly come to sports basement to try on swimsuits for racing. I have noticed that the men’s selection of swimsuits has severely dwindled this year, but today takes the cake. 95% of the swim and trisection are women’s suits. They look colorful, cheerful, exciting, everything that I would hope would be in a men’s suit as well. No. The only options I had were either size 29 or size 42 in the basic boring bland colors of black or dark navy. Nothing else; no other options. I honestly feel as though I have lost all confidence in shopping at sports basement now.
The service in the bike department was excellent. No one was in the swim department, which is the only reason I didn't give five stars. Sports Basement is a great store. I just wish there were a few more people on the floor to answer questions.
Michael from the bike section was the coolest and considerate chap! Helped me get the bike fixed ASAP and running! Definitely recommend him to anyone who has bike issues or needs help!
I needed some new tires for my triathlon over the weekend and was in a pinch. Bryan from the bikes department was patient with me and helped me identify just the set I needed over the phone. Then, when I got there later that week, Michael was so helpful getting them on my bike. Both of those dudes need raises, stat. I'm a Sports Basementeer for life now thanks to those guys.
I love this store! One of my favorite places to shop. The bike shop team are amazing. I had a difficult warranty issue with a new bike I had purchased at another shop online and the bike shop went above and beyond to help me fix the issue with the manufacturer. Did the works package for my first season snowboarding! it was great to get out there and luckily I had some friends who let me use their boards. Now I have an idea on the type of board I want to buy. I also picked up some boots over the weekend from here!
Got my son a e bike and the people over at the bike department where super helpful! We ended up going with a newer version they recommended because it had hydraulic brakes which are much safer than mechanical ones.

Sports Basement seems to have it all when it comes to sporting goods but, more importantly, they have great customer service. I just bought new ski equipment at the RWC store and have to give a shout out to their knowledgeable staff. Dean helped me find a good pair of boots, Kyle was willing to quickly look up an item online, and Heather M. was extremely helpful in getting me the skis I wanted. There's nothing like good experienced representatives to keep customers happy!

Great place to shop and best staff anywhere! Trying to rent and buy ski gear for out-of-town grandchildren and Eddie made it so easy with the many steps needed to get it right! Lisa brought me right sized ski clothes for me in the fitting rooms that made my day! Then made sure my spouse and I knew there was a bar for tea and hot spicy drinks. Great rates too - it is my go-to sports shopping place now!
My first time at Sport Basement. Wow, I was absolutely blown away. The people working there looked like they just LOVED to be there, and everyone was so friendly, and it made you feel like you were talking to a friend. Great selection of goods, and knowledgeable staff!
They sometime provide free drink that made me purchase something. Staff are mostly nice. Price is not the cheapest, but I could try on. This is good especially when purchasing ski boots.
Great place for buying sporting goods. They have a wide ranging selection of equipment for soccer, baseball, skiing, bikes, basketball, football, golf, volleyball, along with clothing items, nutritional bars, and others. Large parking lot makes it a pleasant shopping experience.
This is the biggest sports store I've ever been in by far. They have everything. Good to great quality brands in swimming, skiing, camping, outdoor wear, bicycles, skateboards, shoes, helmets, baseball and much more. You'll need at least an hour there to figure out what you want to buy because you'll get distracted with other things you want but didn't go there for.
I like the size and layout of this store. I don’t feel crowded and gives you plenty of space to try out gear. The best part is that dogs are allowed, unlike the Presidio location which is on a federal land.
